Vic-2fxs,vic-2fx0

what is the difference between VIC-2FXS and VIC-2FXO?
Can them just be used in WIC slots of cisco 2600?
thanks in advance

The VIC-2FXS is a station device and can provide loopstart and ground start service to a analog phone device. It will give you dialtone.
The VIC-2FXO is a office card. IT is meant to provide a telco office type conenction. This is used to forward digits out to telphony networks. It will not give you dialtone. They cannot be used in a WIC slot of 2600, they can be used in a VIC slot. The 2600 would require a NM-2V, or NM-1V in order for these modules to work properly.

  • Putting PVDMs in NM-2V / VIC-2FXO / VIC-2FXS into DSP farm

I have a Cisco 2650XM router with an NM-2V module with one VIC-2FXO and one VIC-2FXS card in it. I'm very new to Cisco voice stuff and want to get started with it. I'm trying to pool the PVDMs on this router into a DSP farm so that they can be used in CME 4.1 with call conferencing / transcoding / VoIP calls between Cisco IP Communicator and Cisco VoIP physical phones but I'm having issues doing so. I believe I'm supposed to create a DSP farm by going into "voice-card X" mode and assigning them to the DSP farm?
I know that there are PVDMs present because they are listed when I do a "show voice dsp detail." I'm not sure if the PVDMs are present in the NM-2V module or actually on the VICs. Can someone offer advice?

Yeah, the only cards / modules that I have in the router are the NM-2V, VIC-2FXO, and VIC-2FXS. Here is the "show diag" output as well as some other ones that may be useful.

    are you sure it is a vic-2fxs and not a vic2-2fxs ?
If so then either a defective card or you may have a counterfeit card (they are out there ) does card have a sticker on it that shows an american flag and made in USA ? if so it is a counterfeit card. If it is a vic2-2fxs you cannot use it in a 1751.

  • 1760 and VIC2 2FXS

What IOS will I need to configure analogue voice ports on a 1760 router? I've tried following the IOS selector but most of the releases it suggests are deferred.

According to the following link, the VIC-2FXS card is supported in all versions of IOS for the 1760 with a voice feature set.

  • VOIP setup for the lab

Next year we are planning a VOIP migration for some of our in house users. We dont have any WAN connections and bandwidth between floors are gigabit.
What I am looking to do is buy a small setup for our lab this year so I can begin to learn about VOIP etc. So far I have researched and this is what I am considering buying.
    - Cisco 2801-V/K9
    - VIC2-2FX0 voice interface card
    - 3560 24 port 10/100 POE standard image
    - 5 7940G ip phones.
Is this a decent setup for the lab ?
Would it allow me to configure a basic voip setup and learn the fundamentals of configuring VOIP ?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
You can probably get away with this for even less.
You could probably get something like a 1751-V with PVDM-256k and VIC-2FXS with the IP phones. You may need the power bricks in this scenario.
    Alternatively,
    CISCO2621XM with NM-2V with VIC-2FXS and the phones/bricks
But yes, your current setup will work. You would need to add something like a PVDM2-8, PVDM2-16, or PVDM2-32 for DSP resources, with the number depending on whether or not you want to play with transcoding/conferencing.

  • Hardware requirement for voice/fax channel from T1?

    Hi all,
I don't know if this is the right forum, but I am looking for validation on my interpretation of hardware requirements.
    The scenario:
I currently have a T1 coming in to the facility and terminating into a vendor-supplied Adtran box which splits off one of the channels from the T1 for voice/fax use (the Adtran has a centronics-style connector going to a 66 block)
I am also in the process of ordering ADSL service to supplement the bandwidth for non-business usage.
Rather than end up with a solution involving an adtran, ADSL modem, and router or two... I want to combine all services into a 1751 chassis.  My only concern / confusion is how to 'split' off the single voice channel from the T1.  There is a phone # associated with the voice channel.
I believe that I will need the router, a multiflex T1 WIC (VWIC-1MFT-T1), ADSL wic (WIC-1ADSL-DG), and an FXS card such as the VIC-2FXS
Am I close here, or completely off base?  Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Paolo,
Thanks for the reply - I guess I'm just trying to figure out if the way I described is the 'concept' and correct WIC/VWIC combination of how to get an analog dialtone from a T1 channel while leaving the rest for data.
I know there are probably many more benefits to going with a more modern router, but this is for personal use (the T1 is tied to a business account, but hosted in my house and maintained by me) and I can't really get an ISR in my price range - 1751s, on the other hand, are easy to come by and affordable - I just want to ensure I can have a single line available for Fax
    Thanks!

  • Transfer called number from FSX port SPA8000 to FXO port analog PBX.

    Hello all!
I have CUCM 8.6 which connecting with SPA8000 by SIP trunk.
FXS port SPA8000 connect to FXO port analog PBX.
When I call from CUCM to analog PBX through SPA8000, SPA8000 does not pass called number in line.
    Anybody have ideas?

Here is what I would recomend, I have set this up at several installations and it works well. The only difference would be that the ones that I have setup had more than 64K between sites but that is still doable so long as you keep the traffic on that link well regulated.
Anyhow. At each site install a VIC-2FXO and a VIC-2FXS into your 1760. You can use the higer density modules if you need more paths. Tie the FXOs to analog station ports on your PBX and the FXSs to analog CO ports. This may seem backwards but it is correct. Cisco's FXS is expecting to provide dialtone and the analog CO ports on the PBX are expecting to receive dial tone. Depending on what you are using for call processing ITS/CCME/CCM configure your gateway and your route pattern, etc. You will also need to be able to somehow access those fxs ports for outbound calls. You could have direct line access buttons on your phones and instruct users that when calling the remote site the must use lines 7 and 8 as an example. You could also setup a line pool code for these new lines.
Now when site A wants to call Site B, they dial whatever you wish them to dial. You do whatever translations you may wish prior to sending the call. Here is how the call flow works. User at site A accesses the line either by hitting a line button or dialing the line pool code. This grabs the analog line tied to one of the FXs ports on the router. The call is then sent over the 64K link. The router at Site B then uses one of the FXO ports to pass the call to an analog station port on the other PBX. To the PBX at site B it will appear as though someone pickedu picked up an analog station and dialed a local extension.
Hope this helps. If you need any further clarification on this let me know and I will try to clear it up further for you.

  • Can I use 'tone ringback alert-no-pi" to gernerate ringback to FXS?

I am using 2611 as voice gateway with VIC-2FXS.
Phone - 2611 ---IP network--- 5350 --PRI-- ISDN SWITCH
Because the ISDN switch don't send the in-band ringback and Progress Indicator to the 5350, so I want to generate the ringback on the Cisco Voice gateway 2611, but when I configure the 'tone ringback alert-no-pi' on 2611 pots/voip dial-peer, It can't generate the ringback yet, so can I use 'tone ringback alert-no-pi' to gernerate ringback to FXS, or just only for the ISDN interface?

We can use 'tone ringback alert-no-pi'command to generate ringback to the FXS.Refer to this link to troubleshoot your problem:

  • Cisco Analog VoIP

    Hello friends,
we have a router 3945 with the following modules -
Our idea is this - someone is calling a mobile number for example +3598212312 The person is connecting to the number but after that the number redirects the call to the Cisco 3945 then the router calls an ip phone inside it. The point is i think we need additional modules like

am i right and what is the correct module we need. and if i am right how should the connection look like. And what about the router redirecting config? Thanks a lot

    Hi svetoslavsimeonov,
Aside from the Cisco 3945, do you also have an existing application in your router such as the Call manager or Unified Communications? You need to have the compatible voice interface card for the 3945 to enable the voice feature.  Feel free to message me directly for further discussion on this.
    Thanks,

  • License CallMgr 5.1 7825 Appliance, 1,000 seats

    Hi,
I am Mohammed Afzal Siddiqui working as a Network Engineer in "STESA" Co. We are going to implement a project which is having 2811& 2821 voice enable routers with VIC2-2FXO,VIC-2FXS,VIC2-2E/M Cisco 2800 IOS SP Services router and 3750 24 10/100 PoE+2SFP Standard Image and We are using Call Manager 5.1 7825 Appliance,1,000 seats that means each Call Manager is containing the 500 Users license so my question is if we are using the other Call Manager for the redundancy, For the other Call Manager the license should be purchased or on the one license we can use both as one for redundancy as one fails.

    Hi Mohammed,
    You will just need to load the Licenses on the first Callmanager (Node). Have a look at the documentation;
    Uploading a License file
Use the following procedure to upload a license file to the Cisco Unified CallManager server with the matching MAC address that is provided when requesting for a license file. The Cisco Unified CallManager server where the license file is loaded takes on the functionality of the license manager.
Note: Upload the license file only on the first node of Cisco Unified CallManager cluster.
    Procedure
Step 1 Choose System > License > Upload License File.
The License File Upload window displays.
Step 2 The Existing License Files drop-down list box displays the license files that are already uploaded to the server.
Note Click View File to view the file content of any existing files.
Step 3 To choose a new license file to upload, click Upload License File.
The Upload File pop-up window displays.
Step 4 Browse and choose a license file to upload to the server.
Step 5 Click Upload License File.
After the upload process is complete, the Upload Result file displays.
    Step 6 Click Close.
Step 7 In the License File Upload window, the status of the uploaded file displays.

  • Howto simulate a PSTN

    Hello,
is it possible to simulate a PSTN with tree routers (e.g. 2x 1841, 2821)? Each is equipped with an CTRLR E1 Module (VWIC2-2MFT-G703). Both routers are conntect with an special cross cable to get the interface active.
!!! This should become a test envoirement !!!
Now I would like to connect a CUCM to the first 1841 an a second CUCM to the other 1841. The test setup should look like this:
    CUCM#1 ------- Fa0/0     1841     E1 ------- E1     2821     E1 ------- E1     1841     Fa0/0 ------- CUCM#2
If it would work, I would like to call form CUCM#1 CUCM#2.
    So here are my questions:
    Would it work?
Can I define number pool by own?
Has anybody build something like this?
How have I to configure it?
In my mind, I remember this setup in the Cisco CIPT courses.
    Kind regards Kai

You can simulate a voice PRI on a 2600 as long as you have DSP resources. If you want to make voice calls through it, the easiest way is to use something like a NM-2V card with VIC-2FXS , the AIM-VOICE-30 DSP card and a VWIC-1MFT-T1 card.
The following config would work -
    isdn switch-type primary-ni
    network-clock-participate wic 0
    network-clock-select 1 t1 0/0
    controller t1 0/0
    pri-group timeslots 1-24
    interface serial 0/0:23
    isdn switch-type primary-ni
    isdn incoming-voice voice
    isdn protocol-emulate network
    dial-peer voice 1 pots
    incoming called-number .
    port 0/0:23
    direct-inward-dial
    dial-peer voice 2 pots
    description - calls to PRI
    destination-pattern 1...
    port 0/0:23
    prefix 1
    dial-peer voice 3 pots
description - calls to FXS ports
    destination-pattern 2...
    port 1/0/0
we use these configs all the time in the lab as PBX simulators . You need a T1 cross over cable to bring up the interface -
    1 ---- 4
    2 ---- 5
    4 ---- 1
    5 ---- 2

  • Send DTMF with SIP INFO (c2600) configuration question

I have a cisco 2600 with VIC-2FXS port as VOIP Gateway, connecting to SIP Server to receive SIP Incoming calls. I am able to receive call and the vocie has been pass through both way; and I would like the 2600 send DTMF as SIP info but was not able to do so. I have ios 12.3, and from this configuration guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/sip/configuration/guide/chapter8.html#wp1048824 , it does not require any config for SIP info. I must missing something here, please advice. Thanks.

I tried to set it, and for IOS 12.3(26) - the latest for 2610 - which dose not have that option. I use dtmf-relay rtp-nte instead; but it did not send RFC2833 event. From ethereal, no OOB events. It seems that the config I have does not have OOB DTMF enable; I compare the config I have with other examples but can not found anything wrong. Any suggestion, and what debug message I should enable, that may help to identify the issue.
