Vic2 - 2FXS Card in 2801 and modem / fax usage

Hi,
I have a Cisco 2801 running c2801-advipservicesk9-mz.124-9.T.bin
It has 2 VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE cards, 1 VIC2-2FXS. And a PVDM2-8 and a PVDM2-16 as DSP's.
I am trying to get a modem working on a FXS port, but one way or the other it's just not comming together.
I do have a propper PSTN line when I use an analogue phone, but when I try to hook up a modem nothing or sometimes a crappy 2k4 connection.
What am I missing here, I thought by putting in enough DSP's in the router and a FXS card and BRI cards this should work.
Nothing fancy configured on the voice ports (first 4 are BRI last 2 FXS)
voice-port 0/0/0
compand-type a-law
cptone CH
voice-port 0/0/1
compand-type a-law
cptone CH
voice-port 0/1/0
compand-type a-law
cptone CH
voice-port 0/1/1
compand-type a-law
cptone CH
voice-port 0/2/0
cptone CH
voice-port 0/2/1
cptone CH
Can anyone tell me what to do to get a modem working propperly on this FXS ports ?

You may want to try adding this command:
voice service voip
modem passthrough nse codec g711alaw

    hi,
We have deployed cisco 2811 router in our network and had installed vic2-2fxs card in one of the HWIC slot.We need to configure fxs card for voip to make a call to branch office and have the following ios c2800nm-ipvoicek9-mz.124-17.bin .The problem we are facing is the router detect vic card under show version command but when show running-config command been given it doesn't display voice-port information to configure the same.We have attached the show tech-support o/p.any suggestion welcomed.

    Hi Bhavesh,
It Looks like you do not have any DSP resources. You will need something like a PVDM2-8 card on the motherboard to provide DSP resources to the FXS card. Without DSP resources you cannot configure the FXS :)
    Hope this helps!

  • How to install 2-port vic3 2fxs/DID and 2-port vic2 fxo on cisco 2801 router

    Hello
I'm looking for information on how to install 2 newly purchased cards  and keep running into dead links. The cards I bought are for a  CISCO-2801-CCME/K9 with PVDM2-8, FL-CCME-25, SP Services 128F/256D cisco  router:
    vic3 2fxs/DID and a vic2 2fxo.
I keep finding documents on how to  install these cards but all links are dead and leading to nowhere.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/interfaces/ic/hardware/installation/guide/2port_FXS_DID_VIC.html#wp1065062
The  2 documents i'm looking for are: how to install a 2-port vic2 fxo cards on cisco  2801 router and how to install 2-port vic3 2fxs/DID cards on the same 2801 cisco  router.
NOTE: I've never installed these cards and am not sure if:
Does my  ios support both of these cards?
and which slots do I install those in the  router.
I have 4 slots like this:
slot 0: This slot only accepts VIC's   ***This could be used for the vic3 2fxs/DID card correct?
slot 1: Nothing  written here  ****What can i install in this slot?
slot 2: This slot only  accepts VIC's and WIC's  ***If I buy a WIC and install here which other slot can  i install my VIC2-2FXO card in ?
slot 3: Nothing written here  ***What can i  install in this slot?
Any chance someone can help me out with this.
    Thanks  very much

    Ok
I was able to figure out what goes where and found out that the IOS i had c-2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-15.T10.bin with cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar didn't support the vic3 2fxs/DID card. I then found the one that works which is the c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-22.YB5.bin.I am now able to see my new hardware interfaces. The question I have now is since the previous version ran with cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar i'm not sure if this needs to be changed since in the compatibility matrix i found this IOS c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-22.YB5.bin to be compatible with cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar
Do i need to remove cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar and install the cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar?
If yes, i know how to install the cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar but how do i remove the other cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar file in order to be able to install the other version?
    Thanks

  • 2801 can not detect VIC3-2FXS card.

    Hi,
I have the 2801 router with a VIC3-2FXS card that is not detecting, I see it with sh diag command like Unkown WAN card.
The IOS that I´m using is:
Cisco IOS Software, 2801 Software (C2801-SPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(15)T7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)
    System image file is "flash:c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-15.T7.bin"
I checked the details and It can support it.
Do you have any idea what I can do ?.
    Thank you, best regards.

  • Fax and Modem with UC560

    Dear All,
I have a somewhat tricky configuration to make happen and hope you can help me.
I have a UC560-BRI-K9 (located in Germany) that is connected via BRI/ISDN and also utilizes an external SIP-Trunk.
The UC is shared by two related businesses and the Trunks are separated using COR-Lists.
I am now tasked with making both Faxes and Modems work. Via the SIP-Trunk, I only need T.38 to work for inbound and outbound faxes; no problem here. On the BRI-Port however, it is quite a different story: Here, I need both Fax and Modem working. The modem functionality is required by a Power Generator to call for maintenance in case of failure (or be called on a designated number for preventive checks). Furthermore, there also is a Postage Meter that also requires outbound modem comms.
Digging through the configuration documents, I see that the UC500-Series does not support Fax-passthrough and modem-passthrough to be enabled simultaneously as they are handled similarly.
If anyone has come across a solution for my problem, please let me know.
Thank you very much in advance!
    Best regards,
    Colin

If you use BRI and the fax or modem is conneceted to a FXS port in the same router, you don't need to worry about anything. It will work fine without any configuration.

  • Fax and Modem Over IP

Is it successful and reliable to deploy the fax and modem over IP in production? Does it stable enough to replace the PSTN connection?
Do delay and packet drops in the network affect so much for fax and modem traffic?
How about to implement fax and modem over IP via microwave link?

i have read in the article in the web. here is the link
    http://www.soft-switch.org/foip.html
    1) Can you comment about implementing POS modem over IP is not reliable and workable.
    2) What the fine tune need to do most to successfully deploy the POS over IP?
    3) We had using Linksys SPA2102 ATA for the POS machine to be connected to the CUCM. Is it recommended brand ATA for impementing the POS?
    4) What is your experience implementing the POS modem? To CUCM or any Media gateway or IP PABX?

  • Help please:set up mac 10.4.11 with ext dsl modem to send and receive faxes

Hi and thanks in advance. I have a G4MDD dual processor, and have a dsl modem for internet connection. I want to set up to send and receive faxes. I can make and receive phone calls while connected to the internet. any ideas or help appreciated. Thanks again.
    Message was edited by: R.Andom

I cannot send/receive faxes via my dsl, I have to use my regular phone line. (My DSL modem only has one phone jack port, and that is to connect it to the outside world. Pretty sure this is true of every DSL modem.)
When I need fax capability, I unplug the phone line to my telephone at the phone end, and plug that cable into the modem port in the back of the G4. (The modem is built-in.) After sending / receiving, I switch the cable back to the phone.
You set up fax capability in System Preferences / Print and Fax.

  • Network recognises SIM card and modem,  but still cannot connect.  but the

I have a Huawei E 220 modem. After downloading a duff Vodafone update, I lost my connection and even with fresh software could never quite get the modem to connect, even though it was speaking to the network. I´ve changed to another provider Telefonica Movistar in Spain (who own O2 in the rest of Europe), and this shows in the program window that I have 3G connection, a good signal, the Sim card is recognised, and that I am registered. However when I ask it to connect, it gives to error messages, the first of which is that it has not been possible to start the "Tool" and the next asking me to check the connection and start again. Unlike the Vodafone program there are no obvious windows allowing you to alter phone numbers or security codes (in fact there don´t seem to be any).
Has anyone any idea what has gone wrong? I´ve deinstalled the and reinstalled both programs a number of times. Everything works fine until I click to connect to the internet.
All I can think of is that there is something left somewhere from the duff program, but I have no idea where to look for it.

    Thanks for the reply.
I went through all the settings in Internet Connect including preferences with the Vodafone set up, and they were eventually all correct, even though for some reason the number of asterisks in the coded sections seems to bear no relation to how many characters you entered . The modem was connecting to the network, went to "authenticating", and then could not "negotiate" a connection.
In the new system with Telefonica, i can´t work out if it connects to Internet Connect, or is entirely self contained. I think the latter, as there are no settings in the Internet Connection which refer to it (Actually I had wiped every setting I could find before installing in case old Vodafone settings might be causing the problem). As it is, the blue light flashes, indicating a high Speed connection and the Movistar pane shows a good connection, that the card is "registrado" which I think means connected, but it then fails at the authentication point, just like Vodafone. As I understand the error messages, which are in Spanish, it then seems to think that the modem is not correctly installed and asks me to check the connections again. The preferences window for this Movistar program does not give you the option of entering phone numbers or passwords, other than the Sim card code which you get on any mobile phone and which is not network relevant.
other than that and choosing what service you want from it and the connection sppeds which are set to mobile internet and automatic respectively, the movistar set up doesn´t give away any options.
it seems to me that there is some simple software setting problem that remains from the duff program, but I just can´t work out where it might be. The first time I tried to solve a mobile modem program problem (which eventually was solved by downloading a later version of the mobile software), i ended up losing one of the core OSX prgrams, which I assumed was a part of the mobile modem set-up, and I don´t want to do that again. One of the weaknesses of the Apple support and problem solving system is that it does rather depend on you having internet access. When access is actuallay the problem and you have to go out to internet cafes and find solutions using cranky windows machines and internet expolorer which doesn´t seem to work seamlessly with Apple pages, it really gets to be longwinded drag.

  • 1760 and VIC2 2FXS

What IOS will I need to configure analogue voice ports on a 1760 router? I've tried following the IOS selector but most of the releases it suggests are deferred.

According to the following link, the VIC-2FXS card is supported in all versions of IOS for the 1760 with a voice feature set.

  • VIC2-2FXS at Cisco 2811 ISR, is NM-HDV2 needed?

    Hello,
I have a Cisco 2811 router that is configured as CUCME and working OK. So I need to connect a fax machine so I decided to take FXS card, but I don't know if I need to find NM-HDV2 to get VIC2-2FXS working on 2811, or it works at any of HWIC slots... I have FXO (VIC2-4FXO) working w/o any network module (installed at HWIC slot), so do I need such for FXS?
P.S.: I have PVDM2-8 installed in the router, will it be enough?
    Thank you.

    The NM is not needed.
The PVDM that you have is enough.

  • Sending and receiving fax documents

I am wondering if there is a way to send and receive fax documents through my iMac. My internet connection is through a cable modem and have only found a way to fax using a modem. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Unless your iMac has a built-in modem port, you will have to use an external fax modem for direct faxing. Otherwise, you can use an internet fax service such as eFax or FaxZero (US/Can only.)

  • MGCP Gateways and Cisco Fax

We are considering adding a fax solution to our IPT infrastructure using Cisco Fax (Captaris RightFax). Ideally we would like the same voice gateways to terminate the fax calls (internal voice calls use QSIG and external calls use Q.931). Can this be achieved with MGCP-controlled Voice gateways? Can T.38 fax be configured with an MGCP gateway. I have seen examples where H.323 dial-peers are required to talk SIP to the Fax Server.
If not, is an alternative to use a back-to-back PRI connection between a voice gateway port and the Fax Server ISDN card, with appropriate route patterns in CallManager to route the fax calls to Fax Server, using Cisco Fax Relay?

with cm 4.2.3 there is mgcp t.38 support implemented.

There is not nor AFAIK has there ever been a PCI modem that worked with Macs. You need an Apple internal modem or an external modem. I use an external serial modem with a Keyspan USB to Serial adapter. You could also use an airport base station as these have modems built in as well.
