Video after In and Out points Changed

After opening up a video in the Viewer and setting In and Out points, and dragging it back to the Browser afterwards:
1. I tried changing the name of the clip that I dragged back to the Browser, though it changed the names of the other clips in the Browser to the same name. Why?
2. How come when you double-click on the new clip and it shows in the Viewer, it shows the In and Out points as well as the video from the original segment around it. Is this the way it is supposed to be? I thought it was supposed to just display the segment of video starting with the In point and ending with the End point.

1. do some reading in the manual. Might try making the clip independent.
2. Yes. I know it may seem weird, but it has some really powerful uses. Double click on a clip in the timeline, it loads in the viewer. You can then change your in and out points in the viewer and they will be reflected in the sequence. (with some limitations). If you want to "isolate" the material between an in and an out, check out "make subclip."
This is very basic fcp stuff. Skim the manuals, explore the menus, you'll figure this stuff out pretty quickly.

  • Filters change in and out points?

This is the first time this has happened.
When I add certain 3rd party filters and/or composite a layer above my clip, the in and out points appear to change in the clip (i.e. a different portion of the clip is now in the time line.
When I double click the clip, the incorrect portion of the clip is loaded into the Viewer window, but when I do a Match Frame, the correct portion of the clip is loaded in the Viewer window.
Also, when the incorrect portion of the clip is loaded in the Viewer (like when I double click it to load), the current timecode display (upper right) is italicized. It is actuallly the correct timecode, but the video is incorrect and the timecode is italicized.
I did a Save As..., created a new sequence and cut and pasted the contents of the problem sequence, and set up a new project and cut and pasted the sequence in there to see if there was corruption, but I had the same problem there. i also trashed FCP preferences.
I have a Mac Pro dual Quad 3Ghz running OS X.5.4
I searched everywhere for "filters changing in and out points" and "Italicized timecode" and everything else I can think of, and found nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Clips shift in and out points after render (Dissolves messed up too) Urgent

Hello all, I have a frustrating and urgent problem.
I'm working with DV NTSC footage at 23.98 fps, shot 24pA and captured with the advanced pulldown removal from a dvx100.
The problem arises when I am rendering my footage from a color correction, etc, the in and out points of my shots change and the shot seems to shift. The cut points don't change, but the shot shifts position within them, almost as if rendering has caused final cut to use the slip tool on these and move them ever so slightly forward or backward.
This problem is also effecting my dissolves, causing them to start to dissolve then suddenly jerk into another part of the clip and then back to the shot that it is transitioning to.
I have tried outputting a QT movie of my timeline (in order to color correct that instead and avoid a render), but as you may have guessed, this only results in a QT movie with all of the above problems.
It is very similar, if not the same, as the problem described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8096178&#8096178
I'm under a deadline and any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks all,
    Nathan

I've had that happen before. Crazy as it sounds, I "solved" it by laying a large video file over the top of the timeline (covering everything) then brought the opacity down to 0%. Go figure but it worked; everything straightened out and rendered fine.
Ghost in the machine for sure.

  • After update all of my subclips have different in and out points

After updating Premiere Pro CC all of my subclips now have different in- and out points. It´s hundreds of subclips and they have nothing to do with how they´ve been before. The In-Point is always the In-Point from the original Master-Clip, the out-Point seems to be totally random. So I can´t work with them at all. Can I go back to the previous version or can I get my subclips back somehow? THANKS!!

What files do you keep on the Desktop? How many?
Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.
Here is Apple's take on the subject:

  • Batch Capture Randomly Changes In and Out Points

I'm editing a documentary on Final Cut Pro 5.0.
Using a SONY DSR-11 firewire deck.
I logged sets of clips and then batch captured them. I DIDN'T select add handles in the batch capture tool. Some clips, as they're captured, change their in and out points. Sometimes by two frames early, sometimes by two frames late, and sometimes not at all. Several clips even stopped captured with an out point twenty seconds earlier than what I'd logged. The result is that I have clips with media start and media end points that are not in what I wanted. There seems to be no rhyme or reason whatsoever to this.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Many Thanks if you do!

Check to see if your tapes have NDF time code.
If you play a tape with NDF TC using Log & Capture, the current time display will defaut to DF until the tape palys forward long enough for the current time field to update. It is posible to log NDF tapes as DF, in which case the timecode values can be incorrectly re-converted if recapturing.
Also, If you initiate a batch capture from the browser, FCP will default to DF, and not be able to update the TC format to NDF duriing the batch. The workaround here has been to cue up NDF tapes with L&C, and start the batch capture while L&C is still open and showing NDF TC.
However, upon upgrading to FCP5 last year, I found that even observing all these precautions and steps, FCP would still shorten the out point of my captured clips on NDF tapes. I was capturing a feature film that came from the UK, and so the starting time on the master was 10 hours instead of 1 hour. When the DF/NDF error occurred and shortened the out point of my 2-hour clip, it did it by several minutes instead of several seconds, because of the starting TC on the tape. In that case, I wound up adding several minutes to my out point and recapturing the end over again.
I haven't experienced this issue lately, but it comes up every now and then.

  • In fcpX....how can I put an IN and OUT points in my sequence and after export a movie???

In fcpX....how can I put an IN and OUT points in my sequence and after export a movie???

You can't. You can't export part of a sequence. Duplicate it and remove the bits you don't want to export from the duplicate.

  • Video stutters when setting range in and out points within browser

While playing back video and using the "I" and "O" keys to set range in and out points, the video stutters every time I press either key.
Footage is Apple ProRes 422 1080p23.98 and 720p59.94 (problem is more noticeable with 59.94 footage). Playback quality is set to "Better Performance"
    FCPX 10.1.3

    Mac Pro (Late 2013)

    32GB RAM
    Dual AMD FirePro D700
Project stored on 7200rpm eSata drive via GbE

Yes that's exactly right. As I'm going through selecting ranges to mark with a keyword tag, the video pauses for a split second (and skips a few frames) every time I use the "I" or "O" keys. As I tend to tag multiple sections within each clip I like to mark my ranges and tag them on the fly while the clip is still playing.

  • Color is changing the clips in and out points

I tried to import into color a fcp7 sequence.  The original footage are quicktime clips.
When the project opens in color, the in and out points of the clips are not there and it gives me the beginning of the clip.
With other footage that I ingested in FCP I don't have a problem.
Can someone explain this to me.
    Thanks

    >The original footage are quicktime clips.
What FORMAT of Quicktime?  Because QT is just a container that can be one of a dozen codecs.  Color ony works with certain codecs, like ProRes, HDV, XDCAM, DVCPRO HD.  If the codec is anything but those...it will have serious problems.

  • Problem - Title Cards in Vid Track 2 Skewing In and Out Points in Track 1 ?

    Hi,
Vast confusion. I'm working with edits in a timeline, created from video files that are "Avid Meridien Compressed" Quicktime Files. These are files that I exported from Avid. They are 24P files. The timeline has been set to 23.97, and everything in Video Track 1 makes sense, no problems, no render line because the project compression settings have been set to "Avid Meridien Compressed".
Ok, so here's the problem. I am creating title cards with the video generator in FCP, and trying to super them into my edits by placing them into Video Track 2. But the moment I drop a title card into Video Track 2, (over an edit I have made in Video Track 1), there is a SHIFT in the in and out points of the source video in the timeline. For example, let's say an edit in my timeline has a source in of 02:02:30:17 and an out of 02:02:35:17. The moment I try and drop a title card over this edit in Video Track 2, the source video in Track 1 shifts, so it now begins at 02:02:31:29 and ends at 02:02:36:29.
It is as if the title cards refuse to conform to the 23.97 timeline, and are overriding the source video edit decisions in Video Track 1.
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this is occcuring? Does anyone have any suggestions for a remedy? BTW, I have also tried creating title cards in photoshop and dropping them in, but with the same result: it changes the source time code edits by shifting them later into the source video.
    Thanks,
    Mtbakerstu

    Update!
While I was never able to get the Vid Track 2 title cards to stop shifting the edit decisions in Vid Track 1 when using the preset that is in tandem with the actual source video files (Avid Meridien Quicktimes at 23.98), I did find that by changing the Sequence Setting to DV/DVCPRO50 NTSC at 23.98 that I could drop the titles into Vid Track 2 successfully without any skewing of edit decisons. You now have to render the timeline, but a quick test of an MPEG2 export showed that there's no denigration in image quality with using this setting.
So that's the scoop. It seems that there's no pure solution to this issue. Perhaps if there's a way to generate title cards out of Avid that are importable into FCP, that would do the trick, but I haven't taken my research that far.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Removing between and in and out point in the timeline

I don't usually post on forums but this has got me quite perplexed:
How do you remove a chunk of media between and in and out point in the FCPX timeline?
It's can't be as hard as it seems to do this task that you have to do all the time. I have a 2 hour 3 camera shoot and I want to remove quite a few 2, 3 minute chucks all through the show. I can't find any way to easily remove these chunks. I know there's no real in and out point in the FCPX timeline anymore but there HAS to be some way to easily remove all the video and audio between two points !!!
I feel really dumb! The answer can't be to make a compound clip as that sure is a pain just to remove something from the timeline. And to blade each individual track means I have to blade at least 8 or 12 things just to remove it!
I have to be missing something. Thanks for any input.

    Thanks Tom.
I'll have between 3 and 6 layers at any point. I've tried command B but the problem with that is it only puts a cut on the primary storyline. It will cut more than that if I select all the layers. By doing that it's like a 5 or 6 step process to delete chunks of media in the timeline. I can't believe there isn't an easier way than that.
But what makes it worse as I have a long piece of audio only media that  is for the whole show. Its a connected clip to the primary storyline. when making edits with command B and then deleting what is between the edits this main audio gets deleted from the edit forward. IT's like this audio becomes a connected clip right after the edit when command B is made. it looks connected to the next clip after the command B but it deletes when I delete the chunk between the command B.
This is so silly that I can't easily delete media from the timeline in this way. It's such a simple thing!

  • Has anyone else noticed issue with in and out points of Ratings?

    Hi,
I have noticed that for some clips, the end point of a rating (i.e. Rejected) is the same as the in point of another rating (e.g. Favourite).
How can this be? Is FCPX treating the out point as the frame after the selected section of a clip, rather than the last frame of the selected section?
This may relate to another post I have made on in and out points, but was a slightly different issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17142309#17142309

I agree with your assessment, but really Apply should change this so that the end point of a rating is inclusive (i.e. the end point of the REJECTED rating above should be 00:03:09:14 not 00:03:09:15).
Another bug to report to Apple!

  • Setting In and Out Points for Render

    Hi everyone!
I was wondering how to tell color to only render from and in and out point, instead of rendering for a whole clip. In FCP I take a ten minute capture, then break it up into sub-clips for each shot, and then edit some of these sub-clips into my video.
When some of these sub-clips require correction in Color the sequence gets sent to color just fine, but when it renders my changes it renders it to the whole clip that the sub-clip came from. This takes too much time because I only need the sub-clip to be rendered, not the whole clip, because that's all I use in my video.
How can I fix this extra rendering? Thanks in advance!

I think that you might find the answer to your question on this link below.

  • Setting in-and-out points  -- is this possible?

I set in-and-out points in the preview window by dragging the blue triangles.
I would like to sample various parts of a clip, though there are only 2 triangles.
    1. Is there a way to take one segment of video and establish in-and-out points for maybe the first 30 seconds of video and than set another in point maybe 1 minute later with a out point 30 seconds after that. So ultimately the encoding will encode two non-sequential segments of video.
    Thanks.

You can't do that, but you can achieve what you want by simply dragging in the clip multiple times into Compressor and for each clip, set your in and out point.

  • Setting in and out points in list view.

I am in list view.  I am showing several favorited clips from one video.  Say I am playing back the third favorited range and I want to select in and out points for that favorited range.  The video is playing and I hit i.  I am immediately jumped from the favorited range I have selected to the first favorited clip in the list.  When I click back on the clip I was setting the in point for I find that it has set the in point where I wanted.  The entrire process then repeats when I try to select the out point.  Set out point.  Jumps up to first clip.  Click back on original clip to get to my out point.
This is very frustrating and makes using favorites and list view a huge waste of time.  Can anyone help?

That should not happen.  Before anythign else, do these two things.
1- Go into the "Final Cut Pro" menu, "Command", and be sure "Default" is checked.   Quit out of FCP X.
2- Open System Preferences (Apple menu), Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts.  Click the "Restore Defaults" option.  The issue here is OS shortcuts will override app shortcuts.
3- Launch FCP X and try again.  If that doesn't fix it...
4- Download the free app "Preference Manager" from  Digital Rebellion (dot com) and use it to delete the FCP X pref files.
After you've done all of these, report back and let us know what's up.

  • New problem/bug when I set in and out points on a clip. Unwanted automatic zoom in on clip timeline.

Playing clips to log and set in and out points for scenes I will use later.  Something changed with the new update and I think it is a bug.  When I hit the I and O keys to set in and out points on a clip before dragging to the sequence, it zooms in on the clip timeline.  I cannot see the full clip time line unless I zoom out which is a pain to do time and time again.  How do I get it back to the way it was before?  It did not used to zoom in and out, it just marked your in and out point as it played leaving the clip timeline unchanged.
I am using windows 7 with Premiere Pro CC

    Hi,
Thanks for your post. I think you are using Premiere pro CS6 as the Project option is included in the file menu and in the video there is an option of project available and visible. Please update your CS6 with the latest 6.0.5 update and the issue will be fixed. The link is provided below. Please update once issue is fixed.
