Video Alongside A Powerpoint (like in Apple's Keynote video): How?

Hello all,
At work I've been asked to come up with a way to display a video of someone presenting at an event alongside the matching PowerPoint deck they're using for their presentation. I've got FPC on a Macbook Pro along with a Windows XP setup, so I've got access to everything I think I should need, but I'm not sure how to create the desired effect.
As an example of what I'm talking about if you look at Apple's keynote presentation by Steve Jobs from 2010 at 1:15 you can see what I'm trying to do (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w7QmMt6CCI). Have a small frame on the left (or right) with the video of the presenter, and then the PowerPoint slides in the other, larger, window, both being present at once on screen.
Any help on how I can do this would be hugely appreciated!

Highlight the canvas. Under the view pulldown menu, turn on image+wireframe. Double click the video on track 2. That opens it in the viewer window. you'll note that on the top of the viewer window is a tab called motion. open that up. The very first tool you'll see there is the scale tool. You can either enter numbers and coordinates, or you can simply grab the corner of the green wireframe in the canvas to scale the image-- your pick.
I would strongly suggest a thorough reading of the manuals. This is editing 101.

How do I manage to get a Quicktime video on my website with the following features?
The video should play without the old grey Quicktime window frame!
The controlbar should disappear, when the cursor is not in the video window.

For FREE do the following:
When you get to othe part of the video you want a still shot from, put the video on pause.
Take a screen shot: Apple>Shift>4 - which will produce a cross hair so you can manually select which part of the video you want.Check inside either your Applications or Utility folder for an app called Grab. Will do the above with just a single click.
If you still want to purchase software, suggest that you do a Google & MacUpdate search. This way, you can find exactly what you want.

I recently purchased this Samsung TV which I would like to hook up to my computer to watch videos. Here are the TV complete specs:

As instructed by one of the guys at the Apple store, I got today an Apple DVI to Video Adapter, and I have a RCA Audio Cable Adapter (that I used in my previous laptop, an iBook). I also have another cable that I don't know the name but it fits in the hole of the adapter where there is a TV-display icon. I used all of these but have no computer image on the TV...
What am I doing wrong? Do I need a "S-Video" cable? Where should I plug the cables on the TV?

I usually use a Bose system with a subwoofer and two tiny speakers I have when I watch movies. I connect it to the headphone output of the TV. How would it work with this? This is the system:

Apple DVI to Video Adapter vs Apple PAL DVI to Video Adapter

I've just bought my mum a Mac mini (for Christmas) and although it will almost certainly be mostly used with a VGA monitor she has it would be interesting to see what the picture would be like on her fairly new (CRT) television. (If it's good enough she might prefer it plugged in there - especially since I've also got her a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard - plus wireless networking for accessing the Internet et cetera.) The Apple Store (UK) shows two "suitable" connectors...
a) Apple DVI to Video Adapter
b) Apple PAL DVI to Video Adapter
My local Apple Store (Meadowhall / Sheffield) only has the former and someone I spoke to there yesterday reckoned that it does exactly the same as the latter. I found that hard to believe so called the online Apple Store - yet they couldn't tell me the difference either. So, perhaps someone out there in the Big Wide (European PAL System User) World can help me. If so then perhaps you could also tell me what the quality of the picture is like - though I appreciate that such would be dependant on the television itself.
Incidentally, my girlfriend has a current range iBook and I bought her the corresponding lead for that a while back - the image quality on my (admittedly aging) television not only being rather poor but also only in black and white regardless as to which of the two connections we used. (Her digital still camera plugs into the Composite Video port on the television and a colour picture appears.) The problem sounds like NTSC is being output (the television's not able to handle that) but given that she's got a "British" iBook I suspect the problem is with the television itself. I've actually yet to try that with my mum's television but I will soon - so, perhaps, proving if it's my antique display that's at fault. The VGA output on the iBook is, by the way, fine.

I'm fairly sure you will need the PAL adapter if you are feeding a PAL television set. VGA is VGA, regardless of country of origin (so to speak), but composite video is specific to the TV system in use!
The other reply, about the setting the iBook for PAL output, sounds sensible if the IBook produces composite video directly.

Apple DVI to Video Adapter performance issues in Lion

I'm an active Apple DVI to Video Adapter user for a couple of years already and everything worked perfectly well until I've upgraded to Lion.
Everything on my TV screen is lagging now, even mouse pointer, and there is no change to watch any movie like that.
Does anyone have the same issue? Maybe someone could give me an advice of what could I do in order to improve graphics performance on TV screen using Apple DVI to Video Adapter? I'm using late 2007 MBP with 8600M GT video adapter.

I am having the exact same problem. I have a late 2007 MBP. I use it everyday where I teach. I use the adapter to project on a large white screen using S-Video. SInce the Lion update, it is very slow and has even completely crashed my computer a few times. I realize the MBP is getting a bit dated, but the difference between Snow Leopard & Lion is remarkable.

Apple DVI to Video adapter + Mini DVI to DVI adapter pins not same

I just purchased an Apple DVI to Video adaptor so I could plug in a Mac mini to an older tv, however the pin arrangement on the Apple DVI to Video adapter is not the same as the pin arrangement on the Mini DVI to DVI adapter that came with the Mac mini.
Anyone have any idea what adapter I can use to make this connection?

If that is true, then there is no way you could have connected the DVI to Video adapter in your first post as the new Mini does not have a DVI port.
The new Mini's come with 1 adapter.

The one that osxdude shows above will not work on a new Mini. It say nothing about a Mini in their description:

Yes, I have a late 2009 Mac mini. It came with the mini DVI to DVI adapter as you stated. I need to hook up to an older tv with yellow component video port. Not knowing any better, and looking online, it looked like the male DVI end of the “Apple DVI to video” adapter would connect to the female DVI end of the “Mini DVI to DVI” adapter that came with the Mac mini. I figured that since they were both DVI plugs, male and female, they would connect, but the “Apple DVI to video” adapter has 4 extra pins, so they won’t.
Then, following osxdude’s lead, I went to a local independent Apple store, and they told me that the same adapter that osxdude suggested would work, so I bought that (at an inflated price), but as you stated, it does not work. Also, as you stated, the Apple site does not list the Mac mini as being used with this adapter, which is why I did not originally purchase it online. It was only at the insistence of the independent Apple store that it would work that I purchased it. Unfortunately, once the package is opened
the store were I purchased it will not take it back. Boy... this is getting expensive, and confusing! Why so many adapters?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 doesn't show up under devices like the Apple TV 1, to send video and music to the Apple TV you need to use the Airplay Option which appears in the lower right corner of iTunes.

So you're trying to extend the reach of the adapter? Closer to TV, VCR, etc.?
Seems like it should work, though I would personally get a long S-video/composite cable. Cheaply constructed DVI extensions can cause a loss of signal strength, and/or pick up RFI and result in poor performance.
It would be safe to hot plug the adapter itself, though I would not power on the attached devices until after connected to the adapter.

Apple DVI to Video Adaptor - The two available and which to buy...

Hi there,
I have a Mac Mini and i'm interested in getting a Apple DVI to Video adaptor.
I have noticed there are two available, one of which is PAL.
Does this mean that on the other one, it is NTSC, and only that? and that the PAL one is only PAL?
Since im in the UK, my TV is PAL.

That is correct. The adapter triggers the Mac to either put out 50Hz PAL compatible video or 60Hz NTSC compatilble video. You can override this behavior, but only with a third-party application like DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X. You might as well just get the PAL one in your case.

Not sure that I have selected the correct forum. Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter. TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices). It does not show Mail or Safari menus. System preferences' display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution. I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access. Is there any way to make this work for us? We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web. Do we need Apple TV to do this? Or is it not possible with our old iMac? My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time, you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV.

Did Apple fix the video quality issue in iMovie '09?

I am a casual video editor and iMovie 08 had the perfect user experience / functionality for what I want to do.
However, the known video quality issue (throwing away interlaced scan lines) made the result unacceptable since I archive our family video on DVDs. I have been forced to use iMovie HD for that reason. I have tried tricks such as converting the original DV files to AIF and deinterlace prior to import into iMovie08 but that did not seem to work either.
So does anyone know if Apple fixed the video quality issue in iMovie '09.
MESSAGE TO APPLE IF YOU ARE LISTENING:
Please fix the video quality in iMovie09 if not already. Yes, the quality is ok for YouTube or Internet video but for those of us who want simple editing to archive our family video we cannot accept poor video quality. Dropping an interlace field effectively halves the vertical resolution. Thank you.

Please explain this in more detail when you say Adaptive Deinterlacer. Are you talking about another program? If so, what program and what are the specific steps.
Also, sounds like you are recommending imovie09. By saying to do the above, are you saying imovie09 still causes you too loose significant quality like imovie08? Are you saying you can use imovie08 or imovie09 with these steps to get high quality video or just imovie09? I guess I just need more specifics on how you do what you are describing and how imovie09 fits into this versus imovie08. I joined this whole discussion trying to figure out if upgrading imovie09 made a difference regarding the whole quality issue. I know it has more features, but I am more concerned about he quality of the video right now. Thanks.

How do I BUMP videos with my 4S like the Galaxy commercial?

My Phone is not a phone and I didn't buy my iPhone 4S 'just to make plain old phone calls'. My iPhone 4S, Jacked into my Fiio E17/Bose AE2 is my home entertainment center when traveling. Siri is my Personal Assistant making appointments, finding locations, etc. Today, I snapped a photo of my proposed contract and 'messaged it' to the client who agreed to the terms. Two Weeks ago, I flamed this moron Russian Player IN RUSSIAN and I don't speak a word of Russian (I pushed this guy's buttons in a language I do not speak---AWESOME!!!). I troubleshot a problem with my car by snapping a photo of the sensor and messangering it to the mechanic. At my friend's hospital (she had an operation), the nurses were issued iPhones and they snap photos of patents so that the doctor could consult in real time while on 'the golf course'? I couldn't visit with Michelle, so I FACETIMED Her---she even showed me her room and I showed her the new improvements I made to my car---all from over 120 miles away!!! I am typing this question on my phone while on the toilet because, well, I can!!! My iPhone is not a cell phone---its my portable office!!! All employees will wash their hands as they leave 'my office'---thank you!!!
It could be VERY USEFUL for me to bump phones and migrate documents/photos/videos instead of having INDIVIDUALLY send them from my base computer which I rarely take out into the field. Besides, its a pain to have to click my google account then attach them INDIVIDUALLY as .pdf(s) or .tif(s) or MicroSoft extensions. If the Galaxy people are BUMPING videos, they are probably bumping music videos and songs like I WANT TO DO. How come the Galaxy People get to do this AND I CAN'T?!!! What's my WORK-AROUND, APPLE?!!! Again, I'm boping around with a Neolithic iPhone 4S because Sprint does not have i80 wired 4G LTE yet. Can my Neolithic A5 chip handle bumping?

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know you could use BUMP to bump anything other than BUSINESS CARDS!!! I guess that's on me!!! I downloaded the app when I saw ten or so Japanese Businessmen at SFO standing in circles, bumping phones. I asked what they were doing and I WENT CRAZY when they told me 'This is how we now exchange business cards in Japan'!!! I didnt know you could bump documents and stuff. Apple needs to have a POWER USER class instead of the 'basic course' they offer currently for free. FYI, the iPhone 4S for Dummies(Wiley) is almost a manditory purchase---iPhones are too feature laden to try and 'wing it' without a reference available.
