hello,
Just got my 30 gig Ipod video. I downloaded a few videos and 2 television shows.
Then I had a problem with my computer and had to go back to an earlier time pre-downlaoding of the videos. I want back on to itunes and selected the menu which says check for downloaded music. I did that and it said all music wa already downloaded.
I noticed the videos and tv shows were not there. If I wanted them again I had to re-download them and pay for them again. This does not seem fair. If I paid for it again shouldn't I just be able to download it again?
Or... am I missing something?

Unlike audible.com which keeps your books in an archive for you in case you need to download again, iTunes only lets you download your song or video one time. If I'm not mistaken they advise you to backup your downloads in case you need them again.

Performance-testing-videos and general questions

I've been trying to evaluate if it would be reasonable to use the packager for developing commercial products.
I would like to show you some videos of my results.

From my prespective this seems the maximum that can be done with the packager concerning performance.
-There are 3 parallax scrolling background layers.
-Scrolling is somewhat smooth
-Performance is ok, gameplay in the demos doesn't feel sticky.
-no slowdowns for up to max 30 enemy sprites on screen.
- basic pixel based collision with an image is possible - though only for 2-3 sprites registered for collision at the same time.
I am not a very profound programmer and i am sure a lot of my code could be optimized.
What I would like to ask is:
1) Has somebody been able to squeeze more out of the packager?
2) Since packager apps have problems with multitasking on iOS and strategies to save and restore the apps state on reload/focus seem buggy - would it be professional to produce apps with the packager?
3) If you start (and stop) several different packager Apps the device performance (iPhone/iPad) will come to a grinding halt because of memory issues when multitasking. So the question would again be, can you sell software that will only perform under certain circumstances?
Those of you who have Apps in the store, have there been any negative comments on those issues?
Please comment freely.

in my opinion, flash is a viable option only if the application being developped
1. is not graphic, memory or cpu intensive
2. is trying to get rapid deployment into ios/android/wm7 market with relative ease
3. relative easier programming/graphical UI (Flash much more user friendly than xcode)
then yes flash is your solution.
However the 1. thing varies greatly on hardware and what your app can achieve. the bottom line is that apps in flash are and will always be slower than native apps merely because it launches a flash player to run your app. hopefully next update can address the issue with performance rather than an API update pack.
I would rather have better performance.

Ipod video and movie question?????

i get my movies from limewire and mp3 direct...can someone tell me how to change the frame rate of the video...from what i understand the frame rate has to be at least 29 to 30 frames per second.. to make the sound sync with the movie..how can i do this and should i do this before or after i convert the movie file with videora???

I had the same issue, however I used this program to transfer ...avi,mpg,wma..etc...;

If the program is used the converted files will be in a folder called;

I'm pasting this from the Videora site, the settings worked for me when others didn't, enjoy:
Configuring videora converter
0) Start Videora iPod converter.
1) Click setup in the left nav.
1.5) Click the profiles tab.
2) Click new profile.
3) Now, configure that profile:
profile name: ipod
in the video settings section...
mode: MPEG-4 > CBR
resolution: 320x240
passes: one
bitrate: 768 kbps (384 kbps also works)
framerate: 29.97 fps
in the audio settings section...
bitrate: 128 kbps
sample rate: Input
channels: stereo
4) Click apply to save the profile.
Now, you're ready to transcode.
1) Click convert on the left nav.
2) Click the transcode new video button.
3) Pick your source video. Mine was an AVI from a torrent.
4) Under quality profile, choose "ipod", the profile you created using the steps above.
5) Click start.
Now you're ready to get the video on your ipod
1) In iTunes, under the File menu, select add file to library. Find the transcoded one. By default, the transcoded videos pop out under the Videora install directory.
2) Drag and drop to your ipod.
Questions/observations:
1) I haven't been able to get H264 anything to work. Is it broken? How much smaller than MPEG4 is it?
2) 768 kbps video was about 400 megs/hour; 384 kbps video was about 231 megs/hour. I could readily see a difference in video quality.

Trouble with a new iPod video (and a question)

My new iPod video is causing my computer to freeze when I connect it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. After that, it seemed to be going OK, but it only downloaded about 500m (of a total of 50g) before iTunes froze again and stopped downloading (of course the "Do Not Disconnect" icon on the iPod stayed there, but I had no choice but to disconnect it!).
All of my music is on an external Seagate hard drive coming in through one of my USB inputs. The iPod is on the other USB input. Could this be part of the problem? I don't think it's a drive letter issue since it did start downloading the last time before freezing.
Also, I'm wondering if I can use my old firewire cable from my previous iPod to speed up the transfer process once I actually get the thing working.
Any help would be much appreciated!

S-Video and Audio Question

Hello, last night I hooked up my Powerbook to my tv using an S-Video cable. The video looked great and crystal clear, but I had no audio except for my laptop speakers. Is there a way to have audio come out from the tv? Is it a tv setting, a powerbook setting, or is s-video not made for this? Thanks for your time!

S-Video connections only carry video information. They do not carry any sound information whatsoever.
To have your TV play back the sound, you must attach the headphone jack on your PowerBook to your TV's Audio Inputs. You can buy a "Y-connector" from your local electronics store (Radio Shack, WalMart, K-Mart, Sears, etc.) to attach a (male) Mini Stereo Headphone jack to (male) RCA Left and Right plugs. It should cost about $6.00. Your TV must have audio inputs for this to work, however, so verify that you have appropriate inputs before investing the money.
Alternatively, if you have an audio amplifier attached to your home theater, you should attach the audio cables to an input on your amplifier. (There are certain situations that would require different wiring, but they are less common and probably won't apply.)
In the absence of such a connection, the video is sent along the S-Video cable, but the Mac "sees" no audio connection, so it plays the audio through its own speakers.

Streaming Video and Design Question

Hi,
I'm coding a screen that displays about 10 components that update with textual information at a pretty low rate (1Hz). Another component on this screen has to display a video stream (I receive pixel data over a network connection, it just contains a grey scale value in each byte).
I have looked into various Java2D related ways to do this. I believe I want to take an active rendering approach using full screen exclusive mode, with perhaps a separate thread for the video stream. A significant class for the video stream seems to be BufferedImage.
I'm looking for some feedback in the design approach (active rendering in full screen exclusive mode, with a separate thread to build and render the video stream), as well as any advice on how to build the displayable image.

The curve 8330 handles some streaming formats... With the MobiTV app I'm told you can watch streaming video of various cable channels including news and discovery channels and such. You can also view some video clips from www.youtube.com Not the flash clips of course! As far as streaming audio you can download slacker radio and flycast and have a semblance of streaming audio. I'm hoping for winamp/real audio type support of streaming media very soon to listen to various internet radio stations that aren't included in the aforementioned radio apps. Inserting Flash video and playback question

Hello,
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 and I have inserted a Flash movie into a web page. It's working fine, except that I would like it to automatically go to a different web page when the video is done playing. Is there a setting for this within Dreamweaver itself or do I have to write an HTML script of some kind to make it do that?

Thank you Klaus1.The large font, I copied and pasted from my mail box.I'm visually impaired...not to a huge degree but it helps to use the large font.I believe you are right about the copyright on the imac stuff but if facebook decide otherwise, you have to reply electronically to their challenge.If you can't provide a reference directly from the copyright owner then they remove the video.I believe this is a programmed response and no human is involved which now makes it impossible for me to get my video uploading restored.They detect added soundtrack automatically and then challenge.There are many others in the same boat and facebook will not communicate.They have various discussion sites on which I have left messages including Mark Zuckerbergs own facebook but I don't think anyone from facebook ever reads them.I intend to start a second facebook which I can use purely to get my videos uploaded as a lot of my friends enjoy them BUT don't want fall foul of their programming again.If only iMac would put something on the net to this effect.I think it is so unfair that with modern technology it is impossible to contact these large conglomerates personally and receive an email response.I tried emailing [email protected] but I got a failure notice.If you have any ideas on how to get verification from apple direct, I would be very grateful.Thank You.

My question is: Is it possible? Doing this willnot affect the files that I had in windows? No information is lost? or how cani do it?

Connect the external drive to your Mac and drag the files from it to your Mac's internal drive. Then dismount and disconnect the external drive, connect the 1TB external drive, and drag the files from the internal drive onto the external. Nothing will have been deleted from any of the drives up to this point; the files will only have been copied. Verify that the files are readable. There's no reason they shouldn't be; this is just a precaution.
Now if you wish to delete the files from any of the drives, drag them to the Trash, and Empty the Trash while the drive from which they came is still connected. If you disconnect the drive before emptying the Trash, the files you were trying to remove from it won't be deleted. They'll remain in the Trash and continue to take up space on the drive.
Note that if your external drives are in NTFS format, you won't be able to write anything to them or delete anything from them, though you will be able to read and copy the files they contain. The NTFS disk format is read-only to the Mac OS, unless you have a third-party NTFS driver installed. To make your drives cross-platform readable and writable, you must reformat them in the FAT32 or ExFAT format.

Videos to ipod and miscellaneous questions

I just bought my 5G video ipod 2 weeks ago. I really like it and it doesnt give me any problems. However i seem to have a number of problems with iTunes:
1) I tried putting all my .avi videos on iTunes and it did not add them and only the .mpg ones were added. I dloaded a 3rd party converter and it worked fine afterwards. But i still wonder why iTunes does not recognize .avi files. does anyone know?
2) on the iTunes music store, i do not see any links to video TV show downloads. I see a link to music videos and trailers but no TV show link. I do believe i have the latest version of itunes as well.
3) this is just a quick question to get to know if my ipod battery is normal. When i play music it gives me about 8-10 hours only. and if i play a video or view photos im assuming the battery wud die in an hour. is that normal?
4) when i connect my ipod to the usb at work (only for charging purposes, i do not have itunes installed at my work pc) it starts charging, but then i get the do not disconnect sign on the ipod. but if i eject the hardware (i know u can if u eject it from itunes, however i do not have itunes installed so i eject it manuallly) it stops charging. Is there any way to listen to music and let it charge at the same time in such a case?
I know these are a lot of questions but i jus hope someone can clarify. will greatly appreciate help

3)yes it is normal for the battery to act like that. when u listen to music it last about 8-10 hrs depening on hhow mush of the ipod gig uve used up and when u play a video it should last around 3 hrs. and then when u turn it off after a video let the ipod rest for a little bit and u will gain a little bit more of battery life.
4)No there isnt cause when it is hooked up to a computer it automaticly nows that its being connected to a compter so there isnt a way to listen to it while it is charging on a computer. But there is on way to listen and let it charge. u have to by a wall charger and use the usb the ipod came with connect into the charger box and connect the charger box into the wall and plug in ur ipod. When it is charging connected to the wall dont put it on hold and push the main button until the apple logo appears and then u can listen to ur songs while its charging using a wall charger.

What is exactly your problem?
If you see a question when you visit a site where a QuickTime movie is embedded, there are possibilities. One is that there is a link made to the QuickTime, and QuickTime cannot access it. The second possibility which most people have is that you don't have an appropriate decoder for the QuickTime video. I only responded to the first case. And the second case is discussed several times a day.

Front Row playing shared TV video and using Fast-Forward question

I'm playing a shared TV video on my Black MacBook from my iTunes running on my PowerMac G5 across my home ethernet 10/100/1000 network. The TV video plays just fine and I can pause it using the Remote just fine. However, according to the documentation for the Remote while using Front Row in this manner, the Remote's Fast-forward is supposed to fast-forward the video if it's pressed and held down. It does not do this! It simply shows the progress bar for the video with played time on left and remaining time on right. I held the button down for at least 30 secs but to no avail. I let up on the button and press and held down for another 30 secs or so but it still would not fast-forward as the documention says it should.
My MacBook is updated with all the latest Apple software downloads for MacBook.
Have others experienced this problem, and if so is there a soln to this at this time or does one simply wait for Apple to fix it.
I will be sending feedback to Apple on this issue.

Update...
I left Front Row paused on a shared TV Video all night. In morning time screen was black and I could not resume playback.
I backed out all the way to Desktop and restarted Front Row and selected same shared TV Video - and this time the fast-forward button worked as documented. Go figure this one
However, when I tried several Shared TV Videos I only got audio in some cases and when I did get a video feed it was not moving yet audio kept rolling along. I had to back off to the Desktop several times and restart Front Row to get things working correctly. If you enecounter this just do what I did here and you'll get things going - just don't give up on it, is my advice. :-))
This raised another issue - It appears that pause/play Remote button will not work (at least for me) after extended pause time (like for 8 hrs).
Apple has some fine tuning to do on this Front Row feature - although I will add they've done a pretty darn good job with its initial release IMO.

There maybe a problem with either system software or hard drive itself.

Hdmi video and audio for hp pavilion dv6 1050us does not work

I'm trying to use my hp pavilion dv6 1050us notebook with a TV Philips model 40PFL8605D using a HDMI cable but nothing function: can't get the image displayed at computer on the TV display. The HDMI cable and the same TV were tested using a ASUS notebook and everything worked all rigth: video and sound. Then I concluded that the only possible source of problem is my HP pavilion dv6 1050us notebook.

I frequently play The Sims 3, I have all, but myabe 3, extensions. And I have a Pavilion dv6-6c15nr Entertainment PC. Now I was wondering, is this a bad idea? Occassionally, my games will freeze and even just completely glitch within the game, sometimes unallowing me to save. It's very frustrating, especially when you get so far. My question is would it be better to just get a gaming pc and leave this one to surfing the web and doing school work? Or is this one good, and can I download or buy something to help my computer maintain or improve its performance?
