Video  App Freezes iPad 2

Shouldn't the app state cannot play, rather than stay dark, become unresponsive and not allow other videos to play?? WEAK software --BUG fix! Discussion is full of this issue--where is the fix? The app used to play videos needs to be more ROBUST! Had to do a complete restore - not even owned for a week yet!

New IPad2 here. Downloaded first film from iTunes store couple days ago. Started watching tonight. After 60 min the video froze. Backing it up a few minutes and playing again led to a second freeze at same spot. Third try: same result.
Then tried sliding past the "freeze spot". This gave me a black screen. Now I cannot get past that black screen: not after quitting Videos App; not after iPad shut_down/restart; not after iPad reSET; not after all SETTINGS were reset and iPad again reSET.
I think I'll try googling for how to delete a [pre-installed ] app. I'm not optimistic. May mean 90 min drive to a Genius bar

  • Podcast problem (video app freeze)

I´ve downloaded a podcast and when i try to play it, the IPAD screen turn black and the VIDEO APP freeze.
I can´t select no other podcast and need to remove the podcast that crash the app.
How can i remove the podcast form ITUNES. I try to remove by IPAD but it s not possible.
    Best regards.

Try searching for the name of one of your videos or podcasts on the iPad's spotlight search screen - swipe your first homescreen to the right, type in it's name, and if it finds it tap on it to see if it plays.
If that doesn't work then try closing the Videos app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Videos app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Videos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option if the two above don't work is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • No video app on ipad

No video app on ipad to watch movies etc.
How do I get this on my ipad?

You can also go to Settings >General >Reset >Reset Home Screen Layout and the app should then be visible on your home screen.
I have absolutely no idea if this could be the case, but certain apps are not available in certain countries - for instance FaceTime is not available in the UAE. I have never heard of this with the video app but it is just a random thought as it seems like everyone else who has posted has covered every other rational possibility.

  • HT3621 How do I sync my video app on iPad with iPod Touch?

Both the iPod Touch and the iPad2 have the video apps.  I have lots of videos on my iPod Touch that I'd like to sync with the iPad so that the iPad2 would then have a copy.  Both contain the 6.1.3 IOS.  Can I do this without having to just download fresh?

It these are videos that you purchased from iTunes you will have to download them again (if they are available for free downloads using the same ID) or transfer them to iTunes and then sync them to the iPad. If these are videos that you shot with the iPod Touch camera, you can use a WiFi Photo Transfer app like WiFi Transfer to send the videos to the iPad.

  • Apple's Videos App on iPad won't load my shared library

    Hi,
I've been looking for an answer to this problem for ages!
    Symptoms/context:
You have all your movies onto one big drive
You have uncheck Preferences|Advanced|"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library"
(this way all titles will be linked to your big drive, not copied)
You have drag/drop those movies from your big drive in Finder into your iTunes Movies library
You have enabled Home Sharing (File|Home Sharing|Turn On Home Sharing)
You have disabled the old way of sharing (Preferences|Sharing tab|Uncheck "Share my library on my local network")
You have proudly added a very nice artwork for each of your movie so that you'll get nice thumbnails in iTunes
    by using Identify.app
or by looking on the web for the best artwork (i.e. flickfacts.com), saving it locally, then drag/drop on your movie in iTunes (Get Info|Artwork)
You're using Apple's Videos app to load your shared library on you iPad
(Start Videos app, select your Shared library, wait a while, then all your thumbnails are displayed fine)
Then as the days go by, you realize that loading your library is taking more and more time, up until that day when all **** brakes loose and you get stuck at the small round clock progress bar, and you wait and wait but no thumbnails is coming up anymore. You reset everything to no avail. What happened?!!
Well here's what I had to do to fix that problem:
    Everything is about movie thumbnails!
In my case I had an overhead of 0.5GB of thumbnails for 650 movies! That's an overhead alright! By overhead I mean that the sum of all my thumbnails was 500MB, so the Videos app had to load this (maybe not entirely at once but...) every time you start the app and select your shared library. This explain  why the app get slower and slower has you add new movies, thus new thumbnails/artworks.
But this doesn't really explain why ultimately the Videos app stops loading all of a sudden!
I realize the iTunes doesn't like:
Movie that doesn't show the correct icon preview in Finder
Invalid movie formats - I'll explain later
    Big thumbnails
Read all 3 steps and don't forget the last paragraph at the end.
Movies that doesn't show the correct icon preview in Finder
Ultimately, I think that was the main problem of all my 3 steps
In Finder, enable the Icon Preview:
View|Show View Options|Check "Show Icon Preview"
You should now be able to see you thumbnails like this in Finder:
    VALID:
    INVALID:
But if you see any of these icons, the Videos app on the iPad might stumble a bit when loading the library
    or
If that's the case for some of your movies, you'll have to make sure that ALL your movies have a proper thumbnail. This can be achieve:
    by using Identify.app - see (note1)
or by looking on the web for the best artwork (i.e. flickfacts.com), saving it locally, then drag/drop on your movie in iTunes (Get Info|Artwork)
Once the thumbnail is corrected, it should display fine in Finder and iTunes
    Invalid movie formats
There might be some cases where even after correcting the thumbnail in step 1., this icon still remains invalid.
If that's the case, you'll need to:
Either delete the movie altogether and rip it again
or reconvert it. For example with iSkySoft iMedia Converter Deluxe has a "Speed conversion" option that allows you to reconvert a 2.5GB movie in about 5 min. After the re-conversion I just had to do step 1. and all was fine, and the thumbnail would show well in Finder/iTunes.
Big thumbnails - may be optional
To speed up the loading of the movie library you have to reduce the size of the artwork that you insert into each of your movie's metadata:
Get the artwork on the web (i.e. flickfacts.com) and preferably a .jpg format, and save it locally
Open your movie file with Preview (Apple's preview app)
    Tools | Adjust Size
Fit into: 640x480 pixels + OK
Save As (press Option before Saving) and save it in another folder (I called my folder "Reduced to 640x480")
Note: if you want to do this on a bunch of files at once: select all your files in Finder, right click and select Open. All you .jpgs will be opened in Preview. Then Ctrl-A to select all in Preview, then you can resize them all)
You'll noticed that a 1.5MB artwork can easily reduced as small as 50K-200K.
For example, I went from 500MB to 72MB for all my artworks. Much smallest overhead wouldn't you say?!
Now comes the part you'll all love : you need to remove ALL your old big artworks for ALL your iTunes movies:
    in iTunes | Movies
    Right click on a movie|Get Info|Artwork tab|Select the artwork|Delete
Drag/drop your newly reduced .jpg to that same window
    Click OK to save.
You can't do that in batch, you have to do each manually like this (if anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears)
    See (note1)
(note1) Important: If you use a program like Identify.app to retrieve the metadata/artwork, I'm pretty sure the size of the automatically retrieved artwork is quite big by default (around 1.5MB-2MB) so you might wanna be careful here and use it to retrieve the movie's metadata, but after that do step 3. to replace the artwork with a smaller one.
    VERY IMPORTANT
Once step 1, 2 are completed (and I had already completed the optional step 3) you have to remove all movies from iTunes (see note, next sentence ) and drag/drop them all back from your drive to your iTunes Movies window. BEFORE REMOVING ALL MOVIES FROM iTUNES, make sure that the option (Preferences|Advanced|"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library") was uncheck. If it was checked, I'm pretty sure it will delete all your movies on disk, not only in iTunes!!! - you'll have to investigate this yourselves or make sure you have a good backup copy of your movies first.
Since I've done all this, my iPad's Videos app is taking about 10-20 sec to load my over than 600 movies library
    Pfew!!
    Have fun gang,
    Jean

This worked for me... A little time consuming but once you get rolling it goes GREAT... Thanks....
I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now.

  • Why isn't the filename of the movie used in Video app on iPad?

I've numbered the filenames of  a series of cartoons so that they sequentially on my Windows 8 laptop.  I loaded them onto my iPad mini, but on the Video app, they do not appear under their filenames, but under another name (in the metadata?).  How can I organize the cartoons so that they appear sequentially in the Video app, as they should be in order to be understood as a cartoon series?

I can't recall the name of the program, but there are ones that you can use to edit the date and time of a file (look for properties editor). Make all the files have teh same date and time (to the second) then they should default to name order. (I'm presuming these are home made video files)

  • Downloaded Videos Don't Appear in Video App on iPad

Please help, I've tried to research this everywhere and can't find an answer. I have purchased and downloaded many shows from the itunes store onto my iPad 2 and have previously successfully watched them.
All of a sudden, not sure when, all the videos have disappeared from my Video App. Every time I check the App it says there are "No Videos" and that I can download videos from the the iTunes Store.
I have tried to re-download previous purchases SEVERAL times and each time it indicates that it is downloading and then it completes but they are STILL not in my the Video App. Strange thing is that when I plug in my iPad onto my PC, the videos appear on my iPad icon there and I can watch the videos on my PC but can't find them on my iPad. I have tried to resync my iPad many times and transfer the videos from my Library back onto my iPad but each time the Video App is STILL empty.
I know my iPad works because I have watched downloaded vidoes before. I'm just not sure where they went and when it happened, whether it was after I updated my OS or when my iPad power went down to 0% and shut down.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

It sounds like you don't have videos actually on your device, but you use your device to stream those videos through a service to watch them on your device. What service are you using for your videos?

  • Video app on iPad errors downloading iOS 7.2

Anyone else getting errors when trying to download rentals on the iPad? Start to download...I okay to start watching the movie and then I get a message saying that the movie can't be downloaded now. Choose 'done' or 'retry'. Retry does no good. So my 24 hours turns into less.
The video app used to work great before ios7...what happened?

First check the side switch (by the volume rocker). It serves as a rotation lock or all mute. Make sure you haven't muted by mistake. Also look in the settings, general, and make sure it's not muted.
Then you can try giving your device  a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds until it reboots and see if that helps.
If not, you can then go into the settings and 'reset all settings'. You will need to retweak your device, but that's helped for some with sound issues.

  • Question about Videos app on iPad

How can I prevent the videos app on my iPad from playing several tv episodes in a row without stopping inbetween?

When you delete a message it's gone but for some reason when I used mine before it use to save the messages by using the Spotlight Feature, you could turn that off by going to Settings --- > General ---> Spotlight Search and unchecking message where it won't let you find certain keywords to messages sent or recieved

  • Videos App on IPad

I was watching a video and for some unknown reason the screen froze.  I close the app and opened it to a black screen.  I have restarted the iPad and the videos app and continue to get a black screen only.  What can I do?

Try searching for the name of one of your videos on the iPad's spotlight search screen - swipe your first homescreen to the right, type in it's name, and if it finds it tap on it to see if it plays.
If that doesn't work then try closing the Videos app completely again : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Videos app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Videos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option if the two above don't work is another soft-reset.

  • Why do music videos not play full screen when not in video app on iPad and iPhone?  video app is worthless, cannot sort or build playlists.

Is there a way to build video playlist within itunes that will play full screen or landscape?  I do not like the video app.

    Greetings avilation,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like when you stream videos to your iOS devices using Home Sharing, you only get either video or audio.
You can find some troubleshooting steps that may help this situation on this page:
Troubleshooting Home Sharing - Apple Support
I'd recommend starting with Step 4 (Check your network connection) in this guide.

  • I have a receipt for a rented movie but can't find the movie in iTunes or on Video app.

I have a receipt for a rented movie but can't find the movie in iTunes or on Video app. Shouldn't it show in my movie file on iTunes or Video app on iPad?

If you rented it on your iPad then it should have downloaded into its Videos app - if it hasn't completed downloading then it might still show in the iTunes app in a Downloads tab in it (Downloads only shows if there are downloads happening), the iTunes app on your iPad is just the store.
If it doesn't show in Videos then does it show via the iPad's spotlight search screen : pull down the centre of the homescreen (not from the very top of the screen, that will open Notification Centre) ?
If you rented it on your computer's iTunes then you will have to connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and use its Movies tab to move it over to the iPad - rentals are a one-time only download, so won't show on your iPad for redownloading.
If you can't find it on the device/computer that you rented it on then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
