Video app - TV shows thumbnails

Hi
I have my video app set to 'show all videos' on my 5S. This shows all my films and TV shows that are available to download or stream from the cloud. What I noticed is that if I go into the TV shows and select a series, then I click on the cover art and drill down to the series I want where it shows the description and a further thumbnail for each episode (usually a still from that particular episode). Thing is the thumbnails/stills specific to each episode are largely blank. The odd episode has a thumbnail amidst my TV show library but most are blank with just a generic grey box with a TV symbol inside the box. If I select 'show me more episodes' from the same series that I haven't bought, the remaining episodes that I do not own then show in the screen along with my owned episodes except these all have the episode thumbnail. I hope that makes sense.
Is this a glitch? Do others see the same? I am on the latest 7.1.1 iOS by the way

When I got home and reconnected to wifi these episode thumbnails loaded in okay so that's all it was.
But one annoyance is wifi has to be switched on to show the cloud music and videos on the respective apps. If it's off they all disappear despite having 4G cellular. As long as wifi is switched on in the device even if you move out of a wifi zone and into cellular the cloud downloads remain available. It just had to have the wifi toggle on. That's a bit if a bad design from apple in ios as one may not want to have wifi on bad scanning all the time but still want to see the cloud music etc

My video app keeps showing a blank screen

After updating to the iOs 4.3.5, my iPad 1 started to experience lagging in my default videos application. Recently it stopped working completely and shows a blank black screen whenever I open it, can anyone please help thank you!

Try searching for the name of one of your videos on the iPad's spotlight search screen - swipe your first homescreen to the right, type in it's name, and if it finds it tap on it to see if it plays.
If that doesn't work then try closing the Videos app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Videos app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Videos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option if the two above don't work is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I recently purchased a video from the itunes store and successfully downloaded it to my ipad2. After syncing my ipad , the movie was lost and Videos App only shows Rentals, Podcasts, Music Videos, what happened to my purchased videos, please help

I recently purchased two videos from the itunes store. I downlooaded them both successfully to my ipad2 Videos App, the next time I synced the ipad the Movies title was erased and the remaing titles: Rentals Podcasts & Music Videos were left, what happed to the Movies title? I am now getting a message saying (my ipad does not support movies I purchased) anyone else experiencing this problem, any suggestions?

There is a few events where I could see this happening...
It's possible if you computer is not authorized with your iTunes Store account it may not have transfered your purchases from the iPad to the computer. To check, Open iTunes> Select the "Store" menu along top of the program and select Authorize this computer. Sign in with your AppleID and password, this will make sure your computer is authorized for the future so you can transfer purchases from your device.

Preview app not showing thumbnails view scrambled

Hi,
since i updated to maverick last week i got an issue with the Mac Preview app, it opens the documents ok, but when opening several files at the time, the thumbnails are all scrambled and not showing the miniature of the selected file.
if i click on the thmbnails area and navigate with the keyboard's arrows it allows me to go through the open files, all files open ok but the thumbnails is the only part that is having this issue.
i have deleted the com.apple.Preview from ~\Library\Containers but still having the issue.
Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Mac OS Preview app stopped showing thumbnails

I'm running a Macbook Air 13" 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB RAM, OS X 10.9.5.
I used to use Preview to rearrange pages in PDFs and concatenate 2 PDFs into one. Adobe Acrobat Reader won't do this, you need the full Adobe Acrobat which is very expensive, but Preview was a nice workaround. One day about a month ago, the sidebar showing page thumbnails went black and I can't seem to fix it. I have restarted, but I'm not sure what else to try. Anyone else having this issue, or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all. Restart and test.

How can I get TV show titles to display properly in the video app

Hi,
I have an iPad (1) which I have updated to iOS5.
I have noticed that in the Video app, TV shows that I have created from my own DVDs only show the season and not the show title, but have a leading comma before the season as though something is missing.
As an example, say I have episodes of Angel Season 3 on my iPad. The title bar at the top of the page only says " , Season 3" instead of "Angel, Season 3"
This doesn't happen with iTunes purchased content which appears to display as expected. However I've looked through all the tags and can't see anything I'm missing.
Has anyone experienced the same? Is there a solution - even if it involves new tags? I previously got all my tags working really well across iTunes, iPad and Apple TV so this is a bit frustrating for me.

What kind of local files are you trying to open and what kind of content is on the pages?
Are that files that you've saved from the internet?

Supported containers for Videos app ? mkv ? ogm ?

the "Videos" app only shows .mp4 files (those from my previous andro phone on the SD) ,it does not list .mkv or .ogm files i added via usb storage
The phone is the Zte Open C, FFOS 1.3.0.x (20140519) (localized in french, bought from zte ebay)
1) I understand only part of the brazilian ticket below, but does Mozilla plan to add mkv or ogm compatibility to the Firefox Video App ? Or other containers ? What about formats of contents inside containers (x264 ? Xvid ? aac ?)

I know it's a hard question, but having a phone device that can also be used as a video media player and play any video format is useful, and the less recoding/remuxing the better.

Videos app only plays sound through Airplay

Hi,
When I airplay a video using the 'Videos' app on my iPhone 4S or my iPad Mini I only get sound through my Apple TV. I understand that I can use Mirroring to see the video as well, but other apps show audio and visual without having to mirror. I tested video stored in the 'Photos' app and a trailer for a movie in the iTunes app. Both of these worked. Does the 'Videos' app not show visuals without mirroring or can I change something?

I tested the 'Videos' app with an iPhone 4 today and audio and visuals worked with my Apple TV using Airplay. Has this feature been removed for more recent products which support Mirroring?

Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos from iCloud not showing up in Videos app

So I just did a reset on my iPhone because the movie artwork for the movie Love Actually was a picture of Adele's album artwork and it really bothered me. All the other movies in the Videos app was fine, they all matched to their respective titles. So I did a reset hoping that would fix that tiny minor issue but after doing the reset and restoring, None of the movies I've purchased in the past are showing up. All it says is "No Content. You can download videos from the iTunes Store." And I did go into the Videos settings to make sure "Show All Videos" is being set to on (green) but it still did nothing, none of my movies, tv shows, or music videos are showing up in the cloud. This really irritates me because I had one small issue that I was hoping to fix but now a new problem has risen and it's going to bug the **** out of me more than the original problem did. I tried turning it off and turining it back on, signing in and out of iTunes account, and pressing the power button and the home button at the same time, but still nothing from iCloud has appeared, Is anybody else having this issue? FYI, I also have the latest update 7.0.4 but I don't think that should have caused this issue. If anybody knows a solution, please let me know because as you can see, I'm very OCD about this, I like to see all my videos in the Videos app.

This was driving me nuts, but I figured it out. Here's how to fix:
1) Create (or find) a thumbnail image that represents the series to you (I put text over a screenshot) in Photoshop or whatever you like to use, and put it on the clipboard
2) In iTunes, select all the episodes from your series in the TV Shows view, right click, and select "Get Info"
3) On the first tab ("Info") click in the artwork field, then paste in the thumbnail
4) THIS IS THE KEY STEP - With your iPad plugged into your Mac, go to the TV shows tab and uncheck "Sync TV Shows" and then apply the new settings, and say okay when it tells you all your TV shows will be removed from your iPad
5) After the sync is complete, check to make sure all your TV shows are gone (in the video app, there shouldn't even be a tab for TV Shows)
6) In iTunes, check Sync TV Shows again, then apply
Once the sync is complete, your TV Shows will hopefully show up with good thumbnails.
The issue seems to be that once a file has been copied over, updating the thumbnail image in iTunes will NOT force an update on the iPad, and in the TV Shows view there are no captions on the main screen. You have to delete all the files to wipe the DB on the iPad.

Select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.

I keep repurchasing a tv show but it is not showing up on my video app on my ipad

I keep trying to download a tv show and it says I have purchased it but its not on my videos app. So I go back on to iTunes and keep downloading it, over and over again. I think I may have confused you and I apologize. But you are also confusing me now.
If you were not using restrictions before, then that is why the Allowed Content for Movies in in accessible. You can only access that if you had set a restrictions Passcode. If you do not have restrictions set, then it is a non issue and don't worry about that suggestion.
Were you actively using restrictions on the iPad? If you weren't then you don't have to enable it now. That will not do any good.

Bug Report iOS 7 iTunes. Since it is repeatable on 3 iPhones and 4 iPads here, I'm sure others are experiencing the same thing. Apple, might want to take a peek at this. When a tv show or movie is deleted from Videos, the Videos app shuts down.

Videos app crashes when I try to watch a tv show? Any ideas?

Hi, since upgrading to iOS5 I haven't been able to watch TV shows on the video app on my iPad 2. Up until today I've had diagnostics turned off but just turned them on and found the following diagnostic report which will now hopefully go to Apple so they can finally fix this annoying bug! Can anyone help? Does anyone else have this problem? Am I wasting my time going to an Apple store to see if this can be resolved quickly?

App also crashes when I try to select a genius playlist (though I never use this feature, so not sure if that's new). But I can create on-the-go playlists and play all songs off the iPhone that way if I wanted to.
When I launch the iPod app, it shows the "songs" selection screen by default, even though at the bottom, the "albums" tab is selected.
When I reclick "albums" it changes the screen to sort by album. If I had clicked the "songs" apon launching the iPod app, the screen wouldn't change, but the tab would now move over to highlight "songs".
Hoping it's just a synch mixup but still searching for a solution...

A movie rented on an iPhone can only be viewed on an iPhone. If you want to view on TV you need to rent directly on ATV or via computer (and stream using home-sharing)

Videos not showing up in iPhone video app.

I am running the lastest version of iOS and iTunes. I have home sharing activated on both my iPhone 5 and my MacBook Pro. My MacBook is on and iTunes is open. My macbook is set not to go to sleep while connected to AC power. I can access my home sharing music library. However, when I open the video app all I can access are the three videos I have loaded onto my iPhone's internal memory. While I am at home and connected to my network, I would like to be able to access all the videos in my iTunes library. I do not understand what I am doing wrong. I have included a screen shot of what I see when I open the Videos app. The three TV episodes are loaded onto my phone if I ever find myself mobile with time on my hands. Thank you to anyone who helps!

I did some more experimenting...
I have one 'TV Show' type video on my iPhone = "Shared" missing;
I deleted the 'TV Show' = "Shared" reappeared;
I added the same 'TV Show' back = "Shared" missing;
I deleted the 'TV Show' = "Shared" reappeared;
I added a 'Movie' type video = "Shared" remained;
I added the same 'TV Show' back ="Shared" remained;
I deleted the 'Movie' = "Shared" remained.
So the videos on my phone in step 1 and 7 are the same but after randomly deleting and adding videos, I was able to toggle the "Shared" button back on. I did all this on iTunes while leaving the Video app on; after every step, the "Video" app would update with the "Shared" changes. Certainly not a fix for the problem but I hope this workaround helps others too.
