Video artwork in iTunes

Hi,
I've had my Mac for about 9 months now and have just purchased an Elgato TV tuner to record the good films on TV and sync to view them onto my iphone.
The problem I have is most of the recordings are absolutely fine, however there are the odd few that will not allow me to add artwork i.e. the dvd cover, I can change the name and year etc and then add the artwork but upon exiting it reverts back to the info when it was imported. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening, my library is on an external Iomega drive via firewire and I'm running a 24inch.
I've also attempted to import a couple of videos guides from the digital photo cover CD, after converting to the correct format iTunes imports them into the music library and I cannot watch the video content only listen to the audio (converted using iSkysoft).
apologies as this may seem to be a bit basic.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
C

For your own videos, you would play the video until you get to the frame you want and then pause it. Make sure the box in the bottom left is set to "Now playing", right click on the video in that box and choose "Set Poster Frame".
However I believe Apple iTunes Store supplied movies actually show a DVD type cover and I have no idea how they do that since the Get Info box does not let you seem to paste artwork for videos/movies.

  • Adding Video Artwork Crashes iTunes

Everytime I convert one of my DVDs to .mov format, it is added to my computer perfectly (using the Videora iPhone converter).
However, when I attempt to add artwork to my movie, the movie is erased from my library and iTunes crashes. What is wrong and what can I do?
It only became a problem with iTunes 6.

  • Video Artwork iTunes 12.0.1.26

        Hello,
I have multiple home videos that i keep in my iTunes Library.    But it is not allowing me to add any artwork to the video.    Any thoughts?
It seems hat every time apple updates (which is WAY too much, it never works right after).
    Thanks!

If you highlight the artwork and backspace it will delete.  To copy and paste artwork from a web page, do a copy, then add artwork in iTunes and paste into the search dialogue box and it will enter the web location and add the artwork when you hi enter.
WHY APPLE CHANGED A VERY SIMPLE PROCEDURE INTO ONE THAT IS TOTALLY COUNTER INTUITIVE AND REQYIRES 2-3 MORE KEYSTROKES IS REALLY ****** UP!!!!!

  • Problem with artwork in iTunes 7

Since i got iTunes 7 a strange error started in my ipod video 60gb(fully updated):
First, the ipod was not showing any artwork. Then i tried to uncheck the "display artwork" field, and press apply. Then check the field againd, and press apply again. It started to optimize my artwork, but by the middle of the process, this error happened: "The ipod "Flavio" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred
(-50).". I started searching in the internet what could this error be, and found that it is a communication problem, or something like that, but could be caused by bad (corrupted maybe) pictures, photos or artwork. I erased them all (even all the artwork) and tried the uncheck-check process again, and the same error happened. I read that it could be lack of space in my computer, but right now there are 6.6gb of free space in my c: (is it enough?) and the error still happens.
Today i plugged my ipod on a computer with iTunes 6, tried the uncheck-check process again, and surprise, it worked! Unplugged the ipod, tried playing the only song with artwork remaining, and it worked too! So i came back home and tried again with itunes 7, but the error happened again, tried the song and the artwork wasn't showing again... Ok, so i tried with a laptop, itunes 6, and it worked perfectly again, then i thought "The problem can be happening just on my computer". Updated the laptop itunes, tried unchecking-checking again, and it seemed to work, no errors, but when i played the song on ipod, the artwork was gone again! Just like when the error happened... Tried again, no errors, no artwork, tried back on my computer, error, no artwork.
2 itunes 6 -> worked, 2 itunes 7 -> problems. The only possible conclusion is that there is a bug in this new itunes, or a new way of dealing with artwork (by itunes, not by the users). Am i right? Or can anyone help me?
I was thinking about restoring, but as i am adding everything by hand, nothing automatic, it could take a lot of time to choose everything again, and to make all the playlists again... And after seeing that this could be a bug, and could happen again, i decided to post everything here before restoring, to see if there is a better solution.
Thank you for helping! (or at least for reading this huge post, and sorry for my bad english...)

there is some problem with i tunes 7(the7.0.1 patch also) in that any artwork found by i tunes is visible whilst viewing tracks in your library if you transfer said tracks to your ipod then the artwork is not transferred, also it you use album artwork as your screensaver then artwork found by i tunes is not used. i can only think that something is not beeing written to the id tags of the tracks. any artwork found by yourself and dragged into the relevant box on the track or album information screen(called up by apple+i)is seen on itunes and by the screensaver. i have spoken to apple support and they assured me that they would get back to me as they had to investigate.that was a month ago. if the problem really bugs you then you can drag artwork found by itunes onto your desktop and then back into the tracks id screen. this remedys the problem but is tedious to say the least. hope this helps

  • Can't add artwork to itunes movies

    Hi,
I am using Video Converter Ultimate to load my dvd collection in iTunes movies.  The converter output is .m4v file.  When I add artwork to the "Artwork" tab of the Get Info box It will add but then I get a spinning colored ball and I must force quit iTunes.  When I reopen the move in iTunes the movie will not play.  The move is there but when playing the movie it is black (no video will play).  Any suggestions?
    Thank you
    VPH

The Movies are M2V formated, and have AC3 Audio (Have an AC3 Plugin' and Have Apples MPEG 2 component). So please can anyone help me get Artwork to my Movie in iTunes?
Sorry to say, it is not possible in this case. The ability to add/contain graphic "artwork" in iTunes is a property of the file container here. M4V and MP4 containers, for instance, can contain one such independent graphic. On the other hand, an MOV (assume you saved your M2V/AC3 data as an MOV) file cannot. On the other hand, your MOV file can have a "poster frame." If you are not a "purist," you can get around this problem by simply adding/drag 'n dropping your graphic to an appropriate point in your MOV file (I would recommend the end of the file), setting it as your "poster frame," and saving the file. In iTunes, this "poster frame" will now show up in your "artwork" display locations. (PS -- this is on a separate track as you attempted to do. In QT Pro, pre-position playhead to end of file and add JPEG track last so its layer is above main movie layer.)

  • Can You Change The Video Thumbnail In iTunes?

I have a few home made videos that are loaded on my itunes Movies.
I would like to change the thumbnail view that iTunes displays.
I know how to add thumbnail artwork by right clicking on the video file
and selecting get info, but that is not what I want to do. When there is
no image in the artwork section iTunes displays a frame from your video
clip as the artwork, this is what I would like to change.

Yes it is.  See this:  iTunes: How to set the poster frame of movies, http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23881

  • Did something change with the video formats in iTunes 10.5?

    Good afternoon,
Since updating to iTunes 10.5, I've found that I can't sync any videos (whether they be TV Shows, Films or Video Podcasts) to my iPod. I've tried various different methods of trying to fix this but every time I do I get given the error message "Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "xxxxx", were not copied to the iPod "xxxxx" because they cannot be played on this iPod."
Now, any of the videos added prior to iTunes 10.5 still work and I can sync them to my iPod without a problem and still play them from there, but anything since then it's just been throwing out the error. I have a 16GB iPod Nano with the latest software version (1.0.2), running off Windows XP SP3, and all Apple software I use is up-to-date.
Please can anyone give me any hints or help in solving this problem?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I think you do not understand, this is all in iTunes under windows.
Here I have a few screens of the problem.
Here is my iTunes video list
Here is me looking at the info of a video in the iTunes library
Here is a list of videos on my iPhone
And here is the info for a video that is on the iPhone
As you can see after the video has been transferred the artwork tab and the artwork it self disappears.

  • Artwork in itunes and seeing it on an Apple TV

Hello everyone. I recently purchased my first Mac, a Mini and have also purchased an Apple TV to stream movies, photos and music to our family room.
I've been able to get artwork inserted into the music side of itunes but when I try and associate artwork with a movie, it never shows up on the Apple TV. It acts like it takes it in iTunes. Sometimes it does and other times it doesn't. But when it shows up in iTunes, I still don't see it on the Apple TV.
Can someone help me understand why it wouldn't show up when it's being streamed to an Apple TV? Or why it doesn't always shosw up in the iTunes movie section? I'm not sure if I need to keep a folder of artwork somewhere or how I should do it. With the music side of iTunes, I just copy the artwork from Amazon.com and paste it in when the song is playing and it works. With a movie, I've pasted it into the Artwork box and usually it doesn't stick. if I put the artwork in a folder and insert it that way, it seems to stick around, but neither allow it to stream to the Apple TV.
I'm lost on this one. Thanks for your help.
    John

After adding artwork, exiting iTunes, starting iTunes and syncing again, some of my videos now have artwork showing up with them. A couple, however, still don't.
Do artwork files need to be in a specific format like JPG or GIF to work with iTunes? I'm taking them right off of Amazon, so I'm surprised they didn't work. The problem is on my Cars and Madagascar videos and our Penguin Christmas Capar video. All three have the artwork showing up on iTunes on the computer but it never makes it to the Apple TV.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Video artwork doesn't appear after upgrade to IOS 8

The videos on my iPad are a mix of videos purchased through iTunes and other videos from my personal collection.  For years, I've had no problem converting videos to the appropriate format so that I could watch them on my iPad. I've usually add artwork to these files, and this has generally worked flawlessly. . . until last week when I upgraded to IOS 8. Now, the only artwork that shows is for items purchased from iTunes--the other videos are there, but there is just a blank box where the artwork should appear. I suspect that Apple has done this intentionally to encourage users to ONLY use content from iTunes, but the vast majority of users have much more diverse collections. If I'm right--shame on Apple, and this might be the last straw for me (a once very customer-centered company has become far less so in recent years). If not, does anyone have a possible solution?

Can't believe this worked! I had same issue since upgrade, searched web, found this... Hoover the mic for around 15 seconds... It only flaming well worked!

There is a few events where I could see this happening...
It's possible if you computer is not authorized with your iTunes Store account it may not have transfered your purchases from the iPad to the computer. To check, Open iTunes> Select the "Store" menu along top of the program and select Authorize this computer. Sign in with your AppleID and password, this will make sure your computer is authorized for the future so you can transfer purchases from your device.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However, if your Movies are missing now you'll need to request to redownload or "regrant" them. Please send an email ticket into iTunes Store via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
Select "Video Purchases" in the grey boxes, then "Lost or Missing Items", then click the link to "Email Us" on the right. Fill out that form and the folks at the iTunes Store should get back to you less than 24 hours.

  • Previewing video in the iTunes store not working

When I go to preview any video in the iTunes store, I just get a blank pop-up square but the video never play. I also have this problem in Safari 5 (some videos work, some don't - those that don't work in chrome).
    Would appreciate any help.

Is it an issue connecting to the store, or signing into your account? For example, can you browse through the store and preview songs, search for artists, etc, but you can't purchase anything, or sign into your account? A lot of people... namely Starbucks employees, have been having trouble siging into their accounts due to a free song sampler they received. It had two codes, one for a small song playlist (the sampler) and another for a free song download. We've ALL had a problem signing in after entering the code for a free song. It's now become much more trouble than that one song was worth. Keep e-mailing them and maybe we'll see some results.

I downloaded a video course from iTunes U to my iMac. How do I transfer the video to Apple TV to watch on my big screen TV?

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • I can't get video purchased from iTunes to play on iTunes

So, I upgraded to iTunes 6 and I installed the upgrade Quicktime 7.0.3 that came with the upgraded iTunes. I have all the current XP Pro updates installed, I have all the memory, videocards, etc etc that are in the system requirements for iTunes 6.
I go to the music store to see how this new and snazzy video purchasing works and I bought a music video of a band I like. iTunes Music Store takes my money, iTunes downloads the video and it's in my library. Cool.
I then select the video and a picture shows up in the bottom left hand corner and I click play and sit back to enjoy this new feature.
Nothing happens. nada, zip, zero. It just doesn't play. New sound, no video, nothing. I try it again. I go to the help menu the only thing they say about problems is to give me a link to a systems requirement list.
I open up Quicktime since the help file also says I can play my purchased video on either iTunes or Quicktime. I try to open the file and I get:
    Error - 36: an I/O error occured
I check everything I can think of and still nothing.
I drop iTunes Support and they send me an email back 4 days later that says, sorry, we can't help with technical problems so deal with it (but I can't find a single article about this problem on the website) or call our help line and probably pay a fee.
I'm at a real loss as to what to do. I bought this video (granted it was only a couple of dollars, but still) and can't play it. Do any of the wonderful people out there have any ideas? I'm just glad I didn't buy more than this one video.
Thanks so very much in advance,
    Shalva del Castillo

I know exactly how you feel. I bought a video and haven't been able to watch it either. Imagine all the "couple of bucks" here and there that Apple gets to keep.
Especially when they is no one here to answer questions and we need to trackdown someone. The FAQ's are useless, like every other companies FAQ. Nothing has anything to do with real problems.
