Video/Audio gradually becomes off in iMovie

I'm using EasyCap to screen record videogames (like Wii and PS3 games via AV cables), and everything is fine when i upload the videos and the sound to iMovie. Once the video is in iMovie, i begin to have problems. The video of the recording starts advancing and getting ahead of the audio. These are long clips (from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours), and after 5 minutes there's about a half second difference between the two. I tried detracting the audio, and it didn't help. The BIG difference here is the video is advancing faster than the audio (NOT the audio begins to lag behind the video). After about a 30 minute span, there's a three second change between the audio and the video. Its frustrating.
My question to you people, is there any way to slow down (verryyy gradually) the video, or correct this completly? I don't think think there's anything wrong with my screen capture device. Thanks.

  • Video & Audio out of sync using iMovie and Photo Booth

I just bought a NEW iMac this month and I am trying to record a 5 min clip. during play back in iMovie and photo booth the video looks slow and its not synced with audio until the clip is at around 4:30.
I am using the internal mike and built in camera.
Its a new computer with plenty of space in it and no new programs.
I have looked through the threads on this sight but cant find my issue.
    Please Help.
    thank you,

    Hello G E2
You have made a good start and already considered a couple of the most likely possibilities that could have caused your problem:
     • CPU performance settings and
     • multiple apps running
re: CPU performance setting: I am not certain, but your MBA may run even faster when it is connected to power that when running on battery, even with the processor performance setting configured for best performance. If you are not already running on AC power, do a test while plugged in and see if that helps.
re: multiple apps: Consider the possibility of background widgets or apps that might be running. If you have not already tested this way, restart your Mac to eliminate possible widgets, quit all startup items, verify that Spotlight is not your indexing disk, and verify that no Time Machine backups are running. Then test video recording again.
If you do not get your problem corrected otherwise, consider the relevant suggestions in this list of possibilites regarding A/V recording sync issues:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7089133&#7089133
Some of them may not be relevant to your MBA, but you may find something helpful there.
If your problem is as bad after any actions you try from that list, when you post back for other ideas, give the details of any new info you found as a result of the additional checks / tests / actions. We will try to offer detailed suggestions in reply to your specific new info and questions.

  • Bluetooth Audio gets cut off during iMovie editing

    Hey Users,
Just started using iMovie09 and finding some "bugs".
When moving clips from the event window to the project window, bluetooth audio randomly gets severed, and the only way to get it back is to turn off then turn back on the device.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Scott

Hey Seatpant Flyers, just another tag on this bug. Not just adding event clips to the project destroys bluetooth but only skimming the mouse along the project will blow away the Bluetooth sound. FWIW.

  • Itunes video -- audio is out of sync

I've downloaded three "The Office" episodes over the past two months.
When I first downloaded an episoded it played back fine.
The most recent episode, I noticed the audio gets ahead of the video.
I played back the first episode I downloaded and the video-audio sync is off on that, as well.
    Any suggestions?
I have the latest Itunes and quicktime running on my pc.

As you're running the current versions of QT/iTunes
    contact iTMS CS:

Yeah. I saw that QT wasn't up to date so I installed the new version and it didn't help.

I too have the same problem.  The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video.  Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   its a joke,  my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well.  at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues.  Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!,  there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

  • Imovie 11: When moving clips from event to project, the top of the video clip is cut off.

I'm working with a new project. When I add clips from an event to the project window, the top of the video clip is cut off.  Quite a bit of it is cut off.  It happens on every clip.  The aspect ratio is correct and I've set the video to fit in frame.  How can I fix this?  I would really appreciate any help.

You may have stabilization turned on in the project. On one of the clips, click on the small gear icon at the start of the clip and select Clip Adjustments. In the Inspector that opens, uncheck the box "Smooth Clip Motion" against Stabilization. If this fixes it for you, do the same for the other clips.
Also, it's a good idea to turn off certain preferences in iMovie>Preferences (an iMovie menu item). In the Browser tab uncheck the boxes for both "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed" and "Apply rolling shutter correction for clips that have been analyzed". See this picture:
The stabilization process causes a zoomed in effect on the video, as it has to "average" the pixels in order to smooth any shaky motion. You therefore lose a certain amount of the picture, depending on the extent of stabilization applied. Here's what iMovie Help states (in part) about this process:
"iMovie stabilizes video by analyzing the camera motion in the video and then moving the picture the opposite way to steady it onscreen. In this process, iMovie zooms in on the picture slightly. The amount of unstable motion in the clip determines how much zooming is necessary.
Zooming in crops out some of the picture, but you can fine-tune the level of stabilization to strike the right balance between keeping the video steady and retaining as much of the picture as possible."

  • Video/audio sync off?

I just bought an iPod today (therefore it hasn't come yet), as well as the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I started watching Pirates on iTunes, and the video and audio were slightly off. Will this be corrected once I put it on my yet-to-arrive iPod or can I correct it or just have to live with it? Oh, and if this question is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it. Thanks.

It could be your computer. Once you get your iPod if the movie does not have the audio synced contact Apple and they will let you download a new copy.

  • Video and audio sync is off

I have a video that was captured using the Hauppauge Win-TV 950Q and the Win TV software package. The file plays just fine in WinTV or using the Windows Media Player, but the timing of the audio and video seem to slip if I import it into Premiere Elements. I am using version 10, so I don't know if this is something that was fixed in a newer version. Over the course of an hour, the audio goes from off by about a second at the beginning to being something on the order of eight seconds behind at the end of an hour. Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks
    -Bob

thanks for looking! If I knew the answers to all your questions, I probably would know what's wrong and how to fix it. I am not looking to do anything exciting here, just trying to archive a program to a playable DVD. Well - I have it playable, it's just not watchable unless you can deal with badly synced audio.
Loaded up mediainfo and it says the frame rate is 29.97, but a variable bit rate for video and constant audio.
    I will look into handbrake.

  • Split screen becoming unstable? (iMovie 11)

Hello. I am having a problem with a split screen movie that I don't understand. I have two film clips of me drumming that were recorded on two camcorders simultaneously. I have imported them into iMovie 11, and used the split screen function to create a movie with both camera angles showing. I have muted the audio files on the camcorder foootage, and imported an MP3 file of the drum track recorded using Logic Express. I managed to get all three of these synched together and it worked wonderfully well.
I then decided to add an additional film clip, and some titles, before the split screen movie. At first this seemed to work fine also. However, when I played the whole project back, I found that about 75% of the way through the split screen section, one of the split screen clips suddenly jumped and then seemed to repeat itself - so of course the split movie no longer was synched.
What is happening here? I noticed that as I gradually 'undid' things, I found a point where the split screen movie was 'fixed again'. It seems as if inserting a clip and audio before the split screen section is what caused the problem. Have I violated some fundemental law of making split screen movies ('Thou shalt not insert a clip in front of it?'). Visually, the inserted clip appeared to be entirely seperated from the split clip, and I could not see why it would be interfering with the split clip.
    Many thanks.

I think it's a good thing you attempted to troubleshoot it, and got it working again. I'm thinking the problem is with iMovie being able to playback everything in the Preview window.
What I've seen from reading a lot of posts on this Discussion Group is iMovie can get overwhelmed with 'Effects' types of material add to the timeline. Not to say it can't handle them, but sometimes maybe certain combos really make it work harder than others. So this almost always shows up as an inability to do a live preview of the Project Timeline, but can sometimes be fixed by working backward to the point where the preview starts working again. There is no iMovie documentation or even third party books written that really lay out what is the upper limit of what you can do on the iMovie Timeline. So the only other thing to do is operate under the assumption that iMovie is working extra hard to play one of your bits of media while doing everything else on the timeline. So here's a file format, and frame dimensions best practice guideline to double-check.
    1. For video, you can pre-convert clips to the Apple Intermedia Codec and the Large frame size (960x540) iMovie uses internally to playback and allow you to edit accurately down to the frame level (1/30th of a second). One conversion program often recommended for this is MPEG Streamclip which can convert to .mov formatted internally as Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)
    2. For audio, you can pre-convert sound to AIFF 16bit @ 48kHz, which is easier for iMovie to playback than a highly compress format, say like MP3 (which is adding to the workload of iMovie as it tries to do a live preview). You can convert in Logic or any other audio program you like. Side benefit to 16bit @ 48kHz is that's often the sound sample rate of the embedded audio in video shot on most consumer brand camcorders on the market. It will make it easier to match sync when sampe rates of sound clips = sample rate of video sound
    3. Lastly one thing that might help workaround the limit of iMovie's Live Preview playback is to export that well synced up split screen/audio combo to a new video clip. Just go to Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large Size) and save it to the desktop. Re-import that finished clip, and drag it into a new Project, start adding all the clips you want in front of that clip and it won't go out of sync as it's a monolithic video clip now with the video/audio locked to one another.

  • Recording Streaming Video-Audio

A class I'm taking does not offer a permanent written syllabus or treatise to retain for reference, only a streaming video-audio. Is there any way to record or capture the show on either my iMac 20" Intel or MacBookPro Intel? This is strictly for my own use and reference.
I presume this would somehow go into iMovie HD, which of course I have on these machines as part of OS X 10.4.9.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

How do you access the stream? I.e. what format is it in, and what applications can you use to watch it. Some players allow you to save (or export) the stream. Some streams are setup so that these options become disabled in the player.
Unless you want to edit the video after you captured it, iMovie will not be part of the solution.

  • Simultaneous Recording of Video & Audio via firewire

I just got a Belkin firewire hub and it works great in terms of getting video from my DVcam and audio from my Alesis MultiMix 8. What I've had to do, though, is record the video into iMovie while recording the audio into Garageband...and then syncing the two later, which is an onerous process.
My question is: Is there a way to get iMovie to lay down an audio track from the firewire input [which actually has some great quality] while live recording/importing from the cam? That's my wish.

    AlBook 17/1.6   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The 2 replies so far are interesting in that I have found both to be true; while mixing is not what I am after, I do want iMovie to ignore the cam audio and take the digital audio from the Alesis interface. Right now I record the audio to Garageband and copy the exported mp4 back into iMovie, syncing with the video track and turning off the audio iMovie origninally recorded. It's a little awkward.
Imagine iMovie and the Mac acting as a sort of digital switcher, enabling the user to choose which audio input to use while recording. Innovative thinking-- I wonder if they're listening in Cupertino?
Looking forward to more opinion/advice on this problem...and appreciating your collaboration thus far.

  • Burning DVDs off of iMovie ver. 2

Hey all. I have a Mac G4 with os 9.1. I am trying to burn video dvds off of iMovie v.2.0.3.  Have created the project,  but can't get my Lacie firewire DVD burner to find and burn the project.
I exported the project to Quicktime, and can view it there, but I have been unable to get my Lacie drive to recognize the project and burn the DVD.  I can burn data DVDs, but not videos. I also cannot find a format through which I can put the project on media and open on my Windows computer to burn the discs.
Is there any way to get my project onto a DVD? Answers?

    Hi,
Error 7 is when a router or the connection to the router is broken in some way.
Some devices have features such as Denial Of Service protection (DoS) that cut a particular Internet Port when it thinks too much data is coming (Presuming it is an attack.)
iChat 5 in Leopard is not capped by the System Preferences > Quicktime Streaming speed (which we used to suggest was set at 1.5Mbps)
It now sees your whole Connection speed and your Upload may be much faster than this.
Your Download is likely to be much faster. However iChat will tend to operate at the lower figure of your Upload.
    DoS features are threshold based.
You may now be bumping in to this Threshold where you were not before.
SPI (Stateful packet Inspection) does a different job but has the same effect when it is overloaded by the speed of the data.
If you have either of these features, turn them Off (Disable them)
