Video Audio Pauses/Resumes on Playback

I have recently bought a brand new 5G 30GB iPod, my first one and I'm very impressed.
I have but one issue I think I already know the answer to, but I wondered if anyone else experiences it.
If you use iTunes to mark your music videos up as music videos, they then appear as Audio only in the song list. If you play one of these, the song pauses for approximately a second for a couple of times per song, then resumes.
I should imagine this is because even if you're playing just the audio component you have to read the entire video file anyway and the memory of the iPod is limited to 32megs so once this is empty, the audio pauses until the drive refils the RAM with the remaining video file? Just a guess but I wonder why they offer playback of the audio of the file if it cannot do so without skipping due to the memory running out.

  • Spark Video Player pause / resume loading

I am developing an application that loads many images and sounds in the background.
When a page containing still unloaded content is requested, the current background load
is canceled in order to free all of the user's available bandwidth to load the requested page
    content as soon as possible.
Now video files are big and I would not want to cancel a video load after 50MB because of a
page request and load the video all over again, when the user returns to the video page.
    Two questions regarding the issue:
    1. Is loader.close() sufficient to stop a file from loading or do I have to destroy the Loader instance?
    2. Is it possible to pause loading of a big (video)file and resume loading when appropriate in the Spark VideoPlayer component?
    Thanks,
    David

Does anyone know if I can pause and resume the loading of a video file in s:VideoPlayer?

  • Itunes doesn't respond to keyboard pause/resume key

I recently had to replace my old HP Pavilion running Windows XP SP3 and iTunes with a new system.  The new system is an HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT with an Intel Core i5-8400 CPU, 4GB memory, running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  I have a Logitech wireless keyboard K320 and mouse M510.  The keyboard has keys to launch a selected "media player" application, which I have configured to launch iTunes, as well as keys to increase/decrease/mute the speakers and also a key to pause/resume media playback.
I have installed iTunes 10.4 on this system, and it seems to be working fine for the most part.  The "media player" key launches iTunes just fine and the keys to control the speakers work great.
However, the pause/resume key isn't working with iTunes.  To verify that it works at all, I launched Windows Media Player to view a WMV file and while it runs it responds correctly to the pause/resume key.  So that pretty much rules out a problem with the keyboard or with Windows not capturing the key press.
This used to work on my older Windows XP system (which has unfortunately died completely, so I have no easy way to go back and double check).
Has anyone else run across a similar problem with "multimedia" keyboards that used to work just fine?  Does anyone have a solution?  I'd really like to be able to pause playback conveniently when I'm away from my system.  I know I can display the main iTunes screen and do it there (and I can even do it wiith just the spacebar since I've got the extended keyboard shortcuts enabled), but I'd really like to be able to just use the pause/resume key to do it (since that's what it's for after all).
Thanks in advance for any feedback and especially for a solution if there is one.

This is apparently a bug in iTunes 10.4 for Windows 7.  It may be a bug in other versions post 10.3 also.  The fix appears to be to deinstall iTunes 10.4, roll back your iTunes library file to the one from 10.3 (fortunately for me, I had not made any significant changes in my library after I installed 10.4), then install the most current 10.3 kit, which does NOT have this problem.
From the Internet searches I've done, I've found references to using an mmkeys.dll file that you need to put into your iTunes plugins folder (which I have done), but the presence or absence of that file makes no difference in the way iTunes 10.4 for Windows 7 behaves.
I've also found assertions that this was a bug in the Windows versions prior to 10.7 and got fixed, but it would seem the fix got broken again in 10.4.
Perhaps we will get lucky and Apple will see fit to fix this defect, which is a functional regression.

Thanks for all your help and thorough answers. After trying several things
without success, I ultimately just rebooted the system and...bingo...the

  • Quicktime video freezes/pauses/skips while audio continues at normal rate.

So here's my problem. I used a Canon Vixia to record some AVCHD footage of my band playing at a gig. I imported it into Final Cut Pro 7 using Log & Transfer. I edited the footage just fine (very simple cuts to remove unnecessary footage and add some title overlays).
However, upon being exported, whenever I opened the .mov in Quicktime, the video would pause, freeze, or skip while the audio continued. Then the video would move extremely quickly to catch up to the audio. It has done this exported as ProRes 422 (LT), Apple Intermediate Codec, and H.264 (I used Compressor to get it into H.264). The only program to play without any skipping/speeding up was VLC, and there was some heavy pixelization/grey screens going on.
Upon a whim, I uploaded one of the clips to Facebook. It still played the skips for me, but I had friends tell me that it played perfectly for them. I used a different computer, and sure enough, not a skip in sight. Going back to my computer, it still played the skips/speed-ups. They are present in Facebook, YouTube, Quicktime (both 7 and X), MPEG Streamclip, and during preview by pressing spacebar with the file selected.
I'm running this on a 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011 model) with Snow Leopard (10.6.8), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, and 4 GB of RAM.

  • Trivial Video/Audio playback weirdness:  a simple question

fire up my system this morning and fire up the old g3 so i can listen to boot liquor radio on itunes radio and i'm making some finishing color adjustments on some sequences. all is fine and dandy. turn down the g3 and turn up my jvc vtr so i can monitor the audio on a qc playback so i can label this particular sequence as ready for mpeg2 compression. hmmmm, no audio is getting through to my vtr. ***?
check the connections, all the cables, run a tape with audio and everything's good. restarts and relaunches later and still no audio is getting to my vtr but i have firewire video and i also have machine control which is rs422 anyway.
scratching my head, i toggle through the video playback options. for some odd reason i had video playback as Apple Firewire DVCPRO NTSC (720x480). the second i switched to Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480) i had audio playback via firewire thru my vtr.
    hmmmmm.
switch over to my panther boot drive, fire up fcp 4.5, look at the video and audio playback and i'm using Apple Firewire DVCPRO NTSC there and i get video and audio playback thru my vtr.
i could have sworn before 5.1, i was getting audio in the same setting as well.
searched the manual and i cannot find a reason for this. what is the difference between Apple Firewire DVCPRO NTSC playback and Apple Firewire NTSC playback? why would my audio follow one and not the other?
it's a burning question that will stay with me, at least until i have another spaten oktoberfest.
    thanks!

I believe the "DVCPRO" is specifically for
    Panasonic.
this describes control, not playback of video or audio. plus, i use the dvcpro firewire setting for playback of audio and video in fcp 4.5. as described earlier, i already have rs422 control.
At least you tried looking in the manual
no, i didn't "try" looking in the manual, i did look in the manual.
    thanks anyway.

  • Video glitchy pauses jumps and stutters

    Hi there
I seem to be having prolems with video playback on my MBP.
Often on You Tube for example after the video is fully downloaded on playback the video sporadically pauses or jumps forward or behaves generally glitchy. I do not believe it to be the internet connection. I have experienced some problems with downloaded files. I am fully updated as well.
Does anyone have any suggestions please for things to look at or tests to run?
Video is not my forte... :P
    Thanks very much
    A

Fixed. There was 5 sec video clip that plays before the main video in the track. However, the 5 sec clip was video only, not audio, and was as a .mov as opposed to mpeg2. Anyways I encoded the 5sec clip in mpeg2/AAC and added it before the main clips and everything works. Still don't know WHY it happened and why it stuttered, any ideas? Don't think it was the lack of black at the start as i didn't add any.

  • How can I make the headphone button pause/resume the right thing on my MacBook?

On my iPhone, I've developed the habit of using the headphone button to pause/resume/skip what I'm listening to.
But on my Mac, I try to do the same and instead it ends up launching iTunes, which I do not generally use for listening to music.
For example, here is a page with a simple audio player
    http://jsfiddle.net/g69x2rt6/embedded/result/
I start playing the music, then I press the headphone button.  Instead of pausing the playing music, as I expect, iTunes opens.
The linked page works fine on my iPhone, with the same headphones.
How do I get the proper behavior back?

    Do a hard restart:
hold the power button and the home button down together until the device shows the apple symbol again (hold it past the actual red slider and black screen).   When you see the Apple symbol come up, release both buttons
then try to reset if that does not work

  • Video/audio Stuttering on Macbook 13

    Hi All
I have a mid 2007 Macbook 13 running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  all up to date.  Initially I had 4G's of ram ( I know it only reads 3 ) now I have it running on only 2.
Problem is video/audio stuttering when running movies. mostly netflix and or connected to a flat screen tv. on wireless or wired connection.  but it also happens just running youtube videos or videos that I have on the system mostly in .AVI format.   I could be running movies with VLC or quicktime and same ting.  I've tried turning every running program off.  like firewall, little snitch, sophos AV, etc.  after turning them all off I do a restart.  I have done permssion repair, checked the disk, run the daily scripts,  even downgraded to SL to see if Lion was too much for the system and nothing.  of of the 4G's of ram that I have.  I swapped them to see if maybe one or 2 of them ware bad.  when I install the operating system, I do a clean install.  delete partition, format, the whole thing and bring it up to date.  not all at one time.  disk permissions repaired after each big updated.  almost half the time the videos will run ok and than it starts stuttering.  when is doing it.  not even the mouse responds in those few seconds.  is like something is grabbing all the system memory for a few seconds at a time.  it has gotten to the point that the system completly frezzes and I get that black translusent window that says the system needs to be restarted.
I have about 40% free HD space.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The behavior you mention is typical of MacBooks with the GMA 950 video chipset and 64MB VRAM.
The best solution I've found is to quickly pause the video and let the video load completely before watching, IF the website allows it and will preload the content. Not all of them do. Some sites automatically buffer before they begin playing.
Watch in a window rather than full-screen.
Watch content on your MacBook screen rather than a HDTV.
The Safari Extension "ClickToFlash" lets you choose whether to load Flash content at all. It also allows 'preferring' H264/HTML5 web video content when available, and seems to be a bit better than simply defaulting to Flash content for every website.
I have a mid-2007 MacBook 2,1 with 4/3GB RAM. It is the very oldest model capable of supporting Lion. After reading of performance issues with these older systems in these forums, I chose to remain on Snow Leopard rather than upgrading to Lion. Snow Leopard runs most things I do very well in 3GB. Lion really seems to need 4GB and would like 8GB, from what I read here.
You don't mention how fast your internet connection is. A faster internet connection MIGHT help some. A wired Ethernet connection MIGHT offer a bit more throughput than WiFi. Worth trying out, especially if you have a friend with a faster connection where you can try before you pay to upgrade.
Ultimately we're talking about 5-year-old computers. That's "ancient" in computer life cycles, and the best solution (not most cost-effective) is a new(er) Mac. It's not a problem unique to Mac. Old Windows XP systems lack the performance of new hardware running 64-bit Windows 7.
New or recent Refurbs with 4GB or more RAM, faster video chipset, more VRAM, faster clock-speed, Intel "Sandy Bridge" (or "Ivy Bridge" likely coming soon) dual-core or quad-core processor, and, yes, a hefty pricetag to match. Anything else is at best a temporary measure to buy a bit of time (a year, maybe?) until you can purchase a new(er) faster better Mac.

  • IChat AV 3.0.1 - Help.  Can't Video/Audio

Power Mac G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Here's my set up: Power Mac G5 (Brand New iSight Camera as of Jan 20, 2005) SpeedStream DSL Modem from SBC. I do not have my FireWall on.
Here's the problem: When a buddy trys to contact me for a Vdieo/Audio call I click their invitation video icon and my video windo pops up and I can see my pretty mug smiling and waiting for the call. At the bottom of the video image is a black rectangle which reads ' PREVIEW' . Anyway, I accept the call by clicking 'Accept'. In the transparent original invitation menu desplayed at the top of the video image it reads: Starting Video call from: [email protected] and on the right side of this menu bar is the Apple gray spinning Gear - which spins and spins and spins. I've let it spin for 5 minutes and nothing happens. I bet I could let it spin forever. The same thing happens when I try and contact someone.
No my friend on the other line said that al he got was a gray video image coming from me.
Well, that's it. Any help would be great. Thanks!
    TC

    Hi everyone,
I might have solved the problem. I did change my PPPoE so my computer would handle the PPPoE connection and not my SBC SpeedStream modem. However, I still had the very same problem as before. I could not Video or Audio chat. I could send and receive files and text chat. As well, when I was invited to a Video or Audio chat when I accpeted the Apple Spinning Gear would just spin and spin and spin, forever if I let it.
That being said, my friend in San Fran who was helping me sent me his iChat AV 3.1.1 (I had iChat AV 3.0.1) as soon as I downloaded iChat AV 3.1.1 and installed it, well, I could Video and Audio. It works perfectly. My guess is the iChat AV 3.0.1 didn't have the correct drivers for my Brand New iSight and the iChat AV 3.1.1 did. Anyway, my friend and I Video/Audio chated for about an hour with no pause or break...
Now, I just need to know if my original modem setting will work for the iChat AV 3.1.1 - until I test this I won't say my question is answered just quite yet...

  • RTMP video/audio format

    Hi,
I'm trying to make a software which sends video and audio data to a flash media server by using RTMP protocol.
Currently, my program can communicate with a flash media server correctly.
RTMP specifications does not describe about the raw data in video/audio messages, so I muxed raw H.264 and AAC data into video/audio messages and sent to the server.
The server seems to accept them, but a video player cannot playback the stream sending from the server.  The player just says "Loading..."
For a test purpose, I sniffed the network packets between Wirecast and the flash media server and ripped off only video and audio data.  Then, I muxed those data into video/audio message and sent to the flash media server.  In this case, the video player connected to the server can playback the stream correctly.
I checked the stream sent from Wirecast, the stream seems not to be H.264 raw data because those data are not started from 0x17 instead of H.264 start code.
With those situation, I am wondering what kind of container format I should use for H.264/AAC data to the flash media server.
    Does anyone have idea?

Hi NpComplete, Thank you for your answer.
Hmm, No. I muxed raw H.264/AAC stream into rtmp video/audio messages and divided into rtmp chunks, then send to the server.
The problem is that the stream in rtmp video/audio messages is NOT usual raw H.264/AAC data.
It seems to be muxed data for FLV video/audio which is described in FLV specs.  And, the rtmp specs does not mention about it at all.
    flv specs: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flv/
    rtmp specs: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/rtmp/
I am still reverse-engineering the Wirecast stream to find out what kind of muxing format it is.  Because it is seemingly FLV video/audio muxed data, but also it seems to be little bit different from them.
Also, thank you for telling about FMS/rtmp sdk, but I didn't notice that before implementing rtmp protocol into my program.
And, I already implemented rtmp protocol into my program correctly, so the problem is only data which are inside rtmp video/audio message.
Even so, just in case, I'll contact to adobe to get the SDK. =)
Do you know about the muxing format inside rtmp video/audio message for H.264/AAC?
    Thanks,

  • Video audio continues to play in the background

I have created a close button that should stop the video from playing, thus closing out of the video and returning to the main menu. But the video audio continues to play in the background.
Does anyone know how I can get the video to pause/stop playing at the same time as it returns to the main menu and after clicking on the close button?
This is what I have to play the video:
    var videoStage = sym.$("videoPlayStage");
    videoStage.html('<video id="myvideo" width= "640" height= "360" src = "composition2/myvideo.mp4" poster="images/poster" type= "video/mp4" controls = "controls"></video>');
    sym.$("videoPlayStage").show();
    close button
    I have a trigger:
    "off"
    sym.$("#D39").pause();
    It is not working.

Here is the code that I put on my close button to make the video pause when closed ("Nat_League_Back" is the place on the timeline that I want to direct the user to when the video is closed):
    sym.play("Nat_League_Back");
    // Pause a video track
    sym.$("BaseballVideo")[0].pause();

Hey Igor, Welcome to the Nokia Forums!
Sorry that you have been experiencing problems with the video playback, have you tried performing a soft reset yet? This will not remove any data, only reset the device settings back to how they where when new.
To perform a soft reset firstly create a backup using Nokia Suite, then type in *#7780# in your phone and the security code 12345 by default if prompted.
If it does not work, you could also try and download a video playing app from Nokia Store to see if video playback functions better on it.
    I hope this has helped!
