Video/Audio/Screen Sharing could not be established

Throw another log onto the fire... it seems as thought I'm also having video connection problems. When I tried connecting to another friend using iChat (OS X 10.5.7), we would both get errors that the Connection could not be made, then it allowed me to send an error report to Apple (the text of which is below).
I am on a Netgear router, model WNR854T, to which I am connected via wireless. I don't seem to have issues with using video on Skype or Yahoo, for the record (although I'm sure they use different methods than iChat to make connections).

  • Serious video/audio/screen sharing problems

Ok, I have been researching this forum and all over google for about a week, and I can't figure this out! I can't connect for AV chat or screen sharing.
My friend is in Ohio, I am in NJ. We can both connect to the apple tester screen names. She can connect to other people in her house, but we can't connect to each other. I have tried disabling the SPI Firewall (Netgear Router), we have changed bandwith settings, sharing setting, security settings. I am using a Macbook pro, she is using a macbook....both have Leopard.
Help. Please. I'm losing my mind!

    Hi,

  • IChat screen sharing does not work on my Mac Pro

I have a weird iChat screen sharing problem that i can't seem to resolve on my Mac Pro. Ever since i got my Mac Pro in early 2008, using the screen sharing feature in iChat has always been flaky. I have never gotten to the point of getting it consistently working. Lately, i have not been able to get it to work at all.
Most of the time, when i choose to share my chat target's screen (or when i share my screen), i would be able to see my chat target's screen and use the mouse for several seconds before the shared screen session is ended. The errors that i am getting are:
    +"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because:+
+No data has been received for the last 10 s..."+
+"There was a communication error during your chat.+
+No data has been received for the last 10 seconds. You can send+
+details about this problem to Apple to help improve future versions of+
    iChat."
On other occasions (mostly when i am trying to troubleshoot this issue by testing in the same network with my Powerbook, which is on 10.5.6 as well), i get this error:
    +"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because:+
+Screen sharing could not be established."+
I have tried to do screen sharing via iChat with other Macs in the same network and also on the internet but with the same problems.
Initially, i thought this may be router related. But the fact that iChat screen sharing on my Powerbook works perfectly both in intranet and internet eliminates my router as the culprit.
I have also tried disabling the OSX Firewall but the outcome was the same.
I read some posts that there may be issue with using the external iSight web cam. I unplugged it, cleaning up all the iChat-related caches and preferences and tried again but with the same result.
I have also tried connecting to iChat using several different account types (mobileme, .mac and AIM) but the end result is the same.
I run a Ubuntu VMWare fusion VM on my Mac Pro as my webserver. I thought that may be the problem. Shutting down the Ubuntu VM also does not help.
Applecare support personnel also instructed me to re-install iChat but that did not help as well.
One interesting error i noticed in the system.log (seen via the Console app) that is generated everytime iChat screen sharing fails on my Mac Pro:
    +12/23/08 12:32:00 AM /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat[507] error getting server version+
I am really running out of ideas on what else i can do to get this resolved.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

The audio and video chat portions of iChat work fine.

I managed to make some headway in my attempts to troubleshoot this problem. I did a fresh Leopard install on one of the drives in my Mac Pro. I then proceeded to update it to 10.5.6. After that, i launched iChat and attempted screen sharing with my Powerbook. The first few attempts failed, with the following symptoms:
    - i would be able to see and control the Powerbook's screen
    - after 5 seconds, my screen sharing session is disconnected
I then unplugged my external iSight. After i relaunched iChat, i managed do screen sharing in iChat without being disconnected!!! When i connected the iSight back into the ACD, with iSight off, i attempted to screen share again. This time, it failed after about 5 seconds, just like earlier. I then turned iSight on. This time round, the screen sharing session was not disconnected!!
So in addition to the iSight issue, something in my original Leopard startup disk is causing iChat screen sharing to fail because even when screen sharing was failing on my fresh Leopard install, i do not see this error:
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat(507) error getting server version
So if i can figure out what is causing this error to show up in system.log, then i can manage the iSight issue.

  • Video and Screen Sharing not working with new modem

I give up. Just replaced my old dead Motorola DSL modem with a new Motorola 2210-02 DSL Modem and now iChat video and screen sharing aren't working. I am running 10.5.7, have an Airport Extreme, and 2 computers with cameras (a G5 with an iSight, a Macbook Pro with built in camera) and both worked fine before the modem switch. iChat works, just not video or screen sharing. I have 3 or so friends that I used to be able to video chat with regularly before the modem swap. Spent 3 hours and $50.00 on Apple support with no results. Also talked with my provider (AT&T/Yahoo) and they were no help. Anyone?

    Hi,
This Motorola is a branded Netopia device (Motorola Own them now)
Default access info is near the top of this page
Turn the Firewall Off or to Low as Medium an High have things that interfere with iChat. (Make sure the Stateful Packet Inspection is OFF)
Check all the tabs across the top and the menus down the side of each page to see if it has UPnP (most likely in Local Network but could be anywhere)
The pics will show you if it is doing DHCP
The Airport settings are in Airport Utility and on the Internet iCon screen where it says "Share a Public IP" in the bottom drop down.

  • Ichat Screen Sharing will not work no matter what I try...

I have read all the forums and can't find an answer. Something that should be so simple such as screen sharing through iChat (as advertised) is virtually impossible. This I can not explain. Especially since video chat works!
Both computers in question here are macbooks, both have leopard, both are or wireless networks. Is the router blocking the connection and if so, why will it allow video chat but not screen sharing?
There is either something real simple that I am missing here, or this is not possible at all.
some things that i have tried:
    disabling stealth mode
on the firewall, enabling incoming traffic from ichat
made sure screen sharing is enabled in ichat
made sure the settings were the same on the remote apple computer
tried unchecking everything in the sys pref "sharing"
Both of the parties involved are using the same ISP, this really is mind boggling.
Is this a bug that is being fixed or what? I am not trying to perform a miracle here, but this is getting ridiculous.
If this is a router issue, apple should release some documentation on how to configure ichat screen sharing through your router.
If anyone has had this problem and has a fix, I would love to hear it. Keep in mind I have googled this many times and tried just about every piece of advice that I could find on this.
    Thanks

iChat Screen sharing does not as such for the screen bit use the Video/Audio port.
The Documentation was lacking last time I looked.
This one tells you the port changes in Leopard http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688 compared to Tiger
Tiger is linked in the first to here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 where most of the other ports are.
However Screen sharing was not part of iChat 3.
If you do a Quick Look at the .plist(s) you will see the reference to ARD which is Apple Remote Desktop which is what the screen ending part is based on.
This Doc will tell you which ports ARD is likely to use
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106439
    (It says 5900 and 5988)
This should be allowed through the use of UPnP in your routing device or specifically opened.
Now the not so good news.
I run Little Snitch, A utility that tells you ports and IPs of incoming and outgoing network connections by any app you have.
This has told me that in fact the Screen port seems almost completely random normally in the 50000 range of ports
It may not be all you wnat to hear but I hope it helps.

  • OFFICE 2013 - Word could not re-establish a DDE connection to Microsoft Query

Hi, I have installed office 2013 on a pc and used excel to run a query on a database and created a .qry query so I can use this data in word mail merge.
The query runs ok and returns the data.
However, when I go to take the data in through mail merge it comes up with a message "Confirm data source" ( I enabled this after  reading kb article below) so I select "MS query files via DDE(*.qry, *.dqy)" as this is a .dqy I select
it. It says at the bottom of the screen word is starting query then comes up with the error  "Word could not re-establish a DDE connection to Microsoft Query to complete the current task".
I have re-did the query from scratch and no difference I tried the recommend kb article 918594 and it still doesn't work.
I recreated the odbc link and still no joy.
Has anyone come across this and have they a solution I would be grateful.
    Thanks

  • Trying to Hot Sync Visor Pro with Windows 7 (64 bit OS) - getting error: "The connection between your handheld computer and the destktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."

    Hi.
I read the posting regarding the options on Hotsyncing for Windows 7; however, I have some questions as I have a 64-bit system.
I have a Visor Pro that I'm trying to Sync up with my new laptop which is running Windows 7.
    Steps I have taken:
    * installed the Visor Palm Desktop 3.0.1 that came with the Visor (which the installation went well)
    * The issue arises when I push the "Sync" button on the cradle and the following error message appears "The connection between your handheld computer and the destktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again."
Since I have a 64-bit OS it appears that I have 2 options: 1) bluetooth or 2) Infrared.
I have to admit I don't know know how to do either of these (how can I tell if this Handspring Visor Pro has bluetooth (which I don't it does)?).
Then how about the Infrared option?  I see on the PDA it has a red area that one can "beam" info.  Is this the same as Infrared or my 2nd option?
I love my Visor and want to continue using it, but need to backup the valuable info!
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
    THANKS!!!!!
    Post relates to: Visor Pro

Hello lwalbring and welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Visor, as you suspect, does not have Bluetooth, so you must use the IR HotSync option.  Since you are using Windows 7 64-bit, I believe that you are going to have to upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.2.2 to make things work from an OS/Driver perspective.
Since you are using such an old device, you are also going to have to download and install the PalmHotSyncSetup Utility from Pimlico.  This update turns on support for old Palm OS PDAs in Palm Desktop 6.2.2.  Without the update, you won't be able to sync your Visor with Palm Desktop 6.2.2.  The software is free and the link is all the way at the bottom of the screen.
Lastly, if your PC doesn't have an IR port on it, you will need to purchase a USB to IR adapter.  Some laptops still have IR ports and most desktops don't.
Once you have all the pieces, you'll want to go back to the Windows 7 and Vista HotSync thread again, and follow the directions for setting up and configuring IR HotSyncs.

  • Trying to update keep getting a message "the ipod software update server could not be contacted Network connection could not be established" using mac OSX. done this with 2 ipod touches??

trying to update 2 ipods but when I go through the process it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" "Network connection could not be established". One of the ipods is locked and I don't remember password.

Here's what you can do in case of the forgotten password:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • IChat 4.0.7 Screen Sharing does not work.

Me and my friend both have identical machines, the intel iMac 20" 2.66mhz
    Software is identical
iChat version is identical (4.0.7 (616))
Video Chat works perfectly, our internet connections are fantastic, no issues there.
Both using Netgear routers with uPnP enabled.
    Internet Sharing is OFF
Firewall is "set access for specific services and applications" and iChat and iChat Agent are added.
I conclude that Screen Sharing *does NOT work* as advertised.
Apple, I am most disappointed, get it sorted for next release please.
Who else has witnessed this epic failure?
    Thanks,
    edit
Also, what is this iChat AV nonsense? Where are the iChat 4 forums?

Thanks again Leo for your help,
Yes I was refering to the screen sharing in system preferences/sharing.
    Checked the video menu:
    Screen sharing enabled
    Camera enabled
    microphone enabled
so no that's not it! Was hoping it was something simple like that too.
Both netgear routers dont have any ports forwarded, just upnp enabled.
The frustrating thing is, both macs are new, one is only days old, and neither mac has had it's setting messed about with or anything.
It would be great to find the solution, 100's of people having similar issues if you google it.
    *edit*
Just a thought, would the type of account make a difference? At the moment we are both using the type of accounts that iChat creates when you select "get an iChat account" (creates a [email protected] login)

  • A connection could not be established...

Hi, i am undergraduate junior student who just joined a summer research lab where I need to use labview and fpga; however, all previous members all graduated last semester so there is no one who can teach me labview and what they were doing....(I really need help..)
The first problem is whenever i try to run a FPGA code the previous people made, i get :  "A connection could not be established to the specified remote device. Ensure the device is on an accessible over the network, that NI-RIO software is installed, and that the RIO server running and properly configured."
In the lab labtop, there are
Labview 2012 SP1 (32 bit), NI-RIO130, Labview Real Time 2012 f1, NI-RIO FPGA driver.... and maybe some files I can't find in this messy disordered labtop.
I have CRIO-9113, NI-CRIO9022, NI-9234, NI-9269 (all four are connected, and power is green on and connected to this labtio.)
Later, i found same probelm when I try to add device on  Project Explorer (FPGA Target -> new -> c series module ->  "A connection could not be established to the specified remote device. Ensure the device is on an accessible over the network, that NI-RIO software is installed, and that the RIO server running and properly configured.")
Can anyone tell me why there is connection error?

    Hey rhksgud92,
With CompactRIO, you have to specify an IP address to connect to and program the target. In MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer), expand the 'Remote Systems' category in the left pane and your cRIO should be located on that list. Select it, and then view the 'Network Settings' cetegory in the middle pane. Here you should see an IP address listed for your target.
Copy this IP address and open your LabVIEW project. In the project tree, right-click on the cRIO and select 'Properties'. In the windows that pops up, you should see an entry field for the IP address. Paste the value from MAX here (and make sure that it is still formatted correctly). Now you should be able to right-click the cRIO in the project and select 'Connect' with success.
I agree with Hooovahh that you are going to have a steep learning curve trying to use LabVIEW and CompactRIO for the first time without training. To make it a little easier, we do have some resources that can help you. First, since you are a student, if your school has an active Academic Site License (ASL), you can get free access to all of NI's self-paced online training resources. If you aren't sure if you have an active ASL, just ask your professor or IT division that handles your school's LabVIEW licensing. Since you are so new, I highly recommend you start with LabVIEW Core 1 & 2, and then proceed to Real-Time 1 and FPGA to learn how to use your CompactRIO.
If you don't have an active ASL, you can still follow some of the video tutorials for students for both LabVIEW and RIO, which should help you out quite a bit. Check out the link below. Lastly, I recommend becoming very familiar with the CompactRIO Developer's Guide (also linked below). This guide is a great resource for how to implement many different features and architectures in RIO applications, for both RT and FPGA.
