Video before Main Menu

Hey,
I want to have a simple video prior to my main menu. I have set the video to First Play then end action my video to my Main Menu. I clicked on the project preview, and it played smoothly into it. However, when I build the DVD, the video is missing and it goes straight into the main menu. Please help.
Thank you in advance.

If you are viewing on a computer, this may be a problem with the DVD player emulation.
To test, burn to a disk and play on a DVD player.
Edit: your workflow sounds right; you might post a screenshot of your flowchart to make sure it doesn't show an issue.

  • IDVD6 Intro track before main menu loads?

The only reason I use final cut is in order to have a little intro movie graphic play on dvd insertion before the main menu comes up ... anyone know if this will this be doable in iDVD6? hints at the possibility in the graphic organisation of the dvd hierarchy.

alllrighty then. Looks like 5 did this already in map view. So happy. Goodbye studio pro (not final cut .... maybe imovie will replace that too) , hello again iDVD.

  • 50 second video on main menu

I want to play a 50 second video on the main menu. I put it there, set the preference to 50 seconds (thought I did) but it cuts out around 37 seconds. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Jeff,
With the menu in question selected, make sure that you have the appropriate backround movie selected in the menu inspector. Under the General Tab, be sure that the "start" slider is at the beginning and set to zero. The "loop point" slider should be set to the same and the "end" slider should moved completely to the right. The times for end and duration should be the same. Lastly the "At End:"option should be set to Loop. If you have all these options set correctly then it might be an issue with your video file.

  • In iDVD pro, can you run a video before the menu appears?

You've probably seen it before: you pop in a DVD, a little movie plays then wipes to the background with the buttons neatly arranged. Is there a way to do this in iDVD pro? I can figure out how to make the buttons come in later.

There is no iDVD 'pro' (there is DVD Studio Pro, but for want to do, you don't need it).
iDVD 6 will let you play a movie before the menu comes up - it's very easy.

  • How can I place asset before main menu

This is my second time working in DVD Pro and I can't remember how I put my logo in the beginning of the DVD.

Just set your logo to be your First Play item and then have that End Jump to your Main Menu (or wherever...)

  • Short video before menu

I'm putting together a video with a client. He wants to have a short segment of the video play immediately as the DVD starts right before the menu, probably less than 20 seconds. I could only figure how to have video playing on the menu screen not before. I'm sure this is possible I just can't figure out how...
    Any help?

You can make the intro as a trck and make it first play, but I usually prefer to build the intro onto the front of the main menu. This way I can have seamless audio and video with no pause when it resolves to the main menu. Set the loop point on the menu to delay the appearance of the buttons until the background resolves.
Even slicker is to make two versions of your menu, one with intro and one without. You can make custom audio for the one without so this can loop cleanly, and the intro can still have continuous audio through the first play through of the Intro_main menu.
    Hope this makes sense...

  • DVD is autoplaying a chapter/video rather than waiting at main menu

    Encore CS6 on Mac
Main menu set as First Play with @Stop to hold at that menu.
I export my DVD and play on my LG connected to my TV. When the DVD autoplays it starts playing one of the videos, and not the first one (happens to be the one in the middle of the grid of choices).
How do I get it to not autoplay a chapter?
    Thanks

This is my flowchart. Disc is connected to main menu.
If I remove 'first play' from main menu then the flowchart disappears, since it doesn't have a path into the disc at that point.

  • Video play back returns to main menu randomly, then I hear a bell sound.

Any video from any source local or internet will occasionally stop and exit immediately to the main menu. When this happens I hear a bell sound. I have tried restoring, restarting, and even investigated if it was my bluetooth keyboard. Nothing helps.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • .MOV file that insists on not playing before the main menu

    Hi!
I have a little Movie(.mov) that I want to play before the main menu shows up. I am setting it as first play. When I test my dvd project it works. But when I build it and test it outside encore cs3 it doesnt appear.
    what is wrong with it?

As Eric said, this can't be done. It's not a limitation of DVDSP as such, but the way DVDs in general work. Pressing stop means.. stop!
What you might consider is using the 'menu' button to go to a menu, or the 'title' button to do the same thing. I don't mean that to sound sarcastic at all - your request to use 'stop' is a pretty frequent one and generally folk want to go to a menu. Tis what the menu key was designed to do, of course...

  • For Making iDVDs: How to do I set my videos so they automatically transition to the next video instead of going back to the main menu every time?

    Hello out there!
Im trying to create a magic iDVD and I have some difficulty navigating my options. Some of my video's that I'd like to add are very short clips and I'd like view them back to back without having to go back to the main menu everytime after every short video clip. For example: a 1:08 minute video of my daughter's birthday and then a 3 minute video of her bithday...how do I make it so the 1:08 minute video automatically transitions to the 3 minute video without me having to go back to the main menu to manually select the next video?
Please advise! Thank you so much
    citule

You can't.  But (there's always a but) if you have enough room (i.e. playing time) available in the project you can create a slideshow in iDVD
and add all of the videos to it.
If you do that set the Slide Duration time to anything except Manual or Set to Music.  Also do not select an transition.
When you click on the Create Project button in Magic Movie you'll be able to use the "+" button to add the slideshow to the top menu.

  • Main Menu in DVDSP3 Won't show background in simulation or burning disc

I recently upgraded from a PowerBook G4 1.0Ghz and migrated to a Mac mini Intel. I am making a DVD for someone, and when i simulated it or burned a test DVD the main menu's background (video) would show up on the Powerbook, but now when i do the same on my mac mini, it will not show the main menu's background (just the plain gray background as before you would add a asset), but will play the music i added to it. All of my other menus are exactly the same as i left them (as i did with the main one) and they still have their backrounds & music when simulated. Does anyone know why this is happening?

DVD SP 3 is not Universal Binary and should not even work at all on Intel Macs, which may the problem (though Universal Binary has its own issues also with menus it seems)
You may want to stick with the older rig for this

  • Why do i get a delay on main menu btns becoming active?

i hope someone can help me explain this as i am releasing the DVD master monday. on my dvd master i have a first play clip that runs through to a second clip which is a still pic (text) that plays 20 seconds. at the end of this the dvd jumps to my main menu. however i have found that, on both software player and my stand alone player, the buttons to navigate to the other submenus from the main menu are inaccessible for about 20 seconds.
i have checked to see if i have any kind of loop going on the main menu but this is set up as a still. after 20 or so seconds the buttons are accessible and i can navigate as expected.
am i missing a setting somewhere?

Well, if I'm reading your latest post correctly, it seems that you would like your buttons to be active during the transition. That's fine if the buttons are actually visible during the entire transition, but if there's a page flip or something where the buttons aren't always 100% visible, having the highlights active the whole time will look really sloppy.
I'll assume you're using some other kind of transition where the buttons are always visible, so it would be nice to have the highlights there in case someone doesn't want to sit through the transition. As with many other areas of DVD authoring, this is an area where you really want to have completely independent elements that are fully-rendered before you start building your DVD. If you have Final Cut Pro, AfterEffects, or some other program that is capable of creating the same kind of effect, your best bet is to create a completely independent video clip first, then use it as a motion menu background and set the loop point to wherever you want the button highlights to appear.
If the transition you want cannot be done easily in another program (or you don't have the necessary software and/or skills), you can always create the clip you want in DVDSPro and import it back in. It'll be a rather time-consuming process, but it might be the only way to achieve what you want. Create an empty project with just one menu that is identical to what you want, then build a disc image (or an actual DVD if you have a spare disc around) with that menu, and extract it from the built DVD. You should then be able to take the .m2v and .AC3 files and use them as the menu assets for your new menu, although of course you can't add any more buttons or it will transcode the MPEG-2 background, which loses you some quality. You should be able to tell it where the boundaries are for the existing buttons, though.
Also, depending on which extractor utility you use, you might not be able to access the menu domain. If that's a problem, you'll have to make a clip containing your menu background and the transition instead of a menu, but like I said, you won't be able to add buttons later. This further illustrates that the best method is to create a finished menu background clip outside of DVD Studio Pro, and then set button boundaries, etc. after you import your clip.
I'm sure I've probably confused you further, but it seems like what I've suggested is gonna be the only way to get the button highlights to remain active during a transition. Later versions of DVD Studio Pro that allow you to create assets during the authoring process are unfortunately rather limited (iDVD on steroids, I always say). I don't believe it is possible to have highlights active during a transition, because it isn't truly a part of the menu.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news -- please don't shoot the messenger.

  • Changing the volume of main menu audio

I was also wondering if there is a way to change the volume of the audio I placed in the background of my main menu page in PE4. Once I originally created the menu (from a template), I can no longer access/modify the song I placed in it. Thanks again.

    1.  Wen you say I shoudl locate my Menu Audio file, do you mean by serching the folders? I cannot find its location within my PE file when it's open. In the same way, I do not know how to actually change the file to another one from within the program. Perhaps I can only view it by searching for it on My Computer.
When you added the link to the Menu for Audio, how did you locate the file then? That would be the same place to look now.
Personally, I would Open that file into Audacity, or other Audio editor, make the changes there, and then Save_As, maybe sticking "menu" in its name, so you'll know that it is a different file. Back in PE, I would un-Link the Audio from the Menu, and then just re-Link to the one with the attenuated Volume. Also, you will want the Duration of this Audio file to be no more than 30 sec. (I think that is the Duration for both Menu Audio and Motion Video in PE).
How can I make the menu audio fade in and out. I assume I can't do that in PE (as I can with all other background music in my project that I see in the timeline). Do you suggest Audacity for this as well even before I import it into the project's menu?
This can be easily done in Audacity. It might even have a Preset for doing a Fade-in/Fade-out. I usually use Adobe Audition, or actually PrPro (PE's big-brother), as I often do DD 5.1 SS for the Menus, as well as Videos. In PrPro, I just create a new Sequence, something that PE does not have, edit the Audio only, as needed, and then Export as a DD 5.1 SS AC3 w/ the SurCode DD plug-in encoder. Though Adobe Encore, the authoring program that I use, has no limit on the Duration of Menu Audio (or Motion Menu Video), I still keep it to only about 30-40 secs, as I assume that the user will make a selection by that time. Also, with the repetitious nature of the music that I choose, and their Fade-in/Fade-out, if the Menu is up longer, it is not noticable that it has repeated.
I use music from a company, SmartSound, and a plug-in that works with PE and PrPro, to "create" custom music from their pieces. I've marked about 12 pieces that have the characteristics that I want, and will use one of the SmartSound variations on these. I also use a bunch of their music for my Soundtracks. Though it's not a plug-in, their SonicFire Pro 5 is amazing with what it can do with their Strata Multi-layer Series of Music.
It seems that their free plug-in comes with PE7, as well as a few pieces from their library. If you do not have PE7, the plug-in is free and works with about any flavor of PE, or PrPro. The music is not free, but over the years I've built up a significant library, whenever they have a sale.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Return to main menu after chapter...

Is iDVD capable of returning to main menu after a certain chapter plays? The reason I ask is because I have a clip I would like to keep "hidden" - it's technically chapter 3, but I don't want it to play as part of the movie - I only want it be played by selecting "extra scene" in the main menu (don't really want it in the scene selection menu, but i'd take that also)- but I have a feeling iDVD can't do that... I hope i'm wrong though.
Another thing - i'm putting together a dvd with concerts - is it possible to have a menu and a scene selection menu for EACH show? For instance - concert #1 would have a menu - with a scene selection spot - and concert #2 would have the same - and 3 and so on... Of course, that brings me back to my first question - can these play without running together?
or do I need DVD Studio Pro? cause I think that's probably what i'm gonna have to look into.

Separate iMoive or FC projects can be input separately.
You can split a moive and import only what you want by exporting it to Quicktime alone.
But if something is a part of your main video project, it will play along with the other parts.
You can delete its chapter selection from your menu, but the video will still play in order in the project.
And, no iDVD can't return to the main menu from a certain chapter in the project.
The only way to do that is to (as stated above) import that video separately.
I'd say you still have a lot of options before you jump to DVDSP.

  • Main Menu:Not enough disk space for asset encoding

i tried to burn my project first i got an error that in track 1 i've got no assets/videos and i added an asset, then a problem with the story and dragged the same story in both columns.. now i tried to burn again and got this error
Main Menu:Not enough disk space for asset encoding
    Build cancelled
Building was not successful. See log.
any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

Sounds like your hard drive is getting full. You need as much space on your drive as you can get - at least as much as the disc contents, twice. If you are burning a DVD-R at 4.7Gb then allow ten Gb free space before you start.
