Video blank in PS CS6

Importing mp4 video (out of a GoPro) into Photoshop CS6. It used to work perfectly a few mths ago. I always keep my S/W up-to-date. Now (after various updates) I only get the sound track opened correctly in PS (which seems perfect) but the video is blank. While importing, it doesn't show the long "import video" window with the blue progress strip. The import is fast but video is blank. The timeline is correct for the sound but the blank video strip is usually very truncated. I've tried various ways, dragging the video onto PS icon, using the + sign in timeline etc etc but no action shows the video. Last Fall I edited several videos without a problem. I'm not a big video person but this feature in PS CS6 was very handy.
I use a MAC Pro (desktop) with 12GB RAM and flush the cache regularly.

I replied to your post in the main PS forum. No need to use duplicate posts.

  • Problems opening video files in Photoshop CS6

    I appear to be unable to open any kind of video file in Photoshop CS6, I always get the error message "could not complete your request because it is  not the right type of document".
    I have noticed, however, that a couple of things seem to be different from all the video tutorials that are out there, e.g:
      1.  The Timeline dosen't seem to give me the option to open a file from it and appears to be a timeline for animation only (see image below)
      2.  The Mini Bridge dosen't show the movie files, e.g. on my desktop I have three different movie files (AVI, MP4 & MOV) and as you can see none appear (see image below)

    Thanks for your reply Pete.
    When I have a picture open the Timeline dosen't seem to have the "convert to video timeline" button you mentioned (see image below)
    Also HERE is the link to my system info you requested.

  • Video tutorial for Photoshop CS6 3d

    I have been fighting and struggling for at least two weeks trying to find decent video tutorials for Photoshop CS6 3d. Does no one use it? is there nothing out there. The stuff I have found is either incomplete or the sites don't work or function properly. It's driving me crazy and that's being generous.
    Let's face it. If I can't use it I'll have to move on to some other software solution.

    Photoshop CS6 does basic video editing you need Adobe Premier Pro
    Adobe Premiere Pro 3D Stereoscopic Realtime Editing  ...
    Or are you referring to a tutorial for Photoshop CS6 Extended 3d support and the you would prefer a video tutorial???

    Adobe Digital Imaging Evangelist Julieanne Kost shows how to use the new video features in Photoshop CS6.

    I am removing a dust spot from video clips taken during an aerial shoot. I have discovered that the only effective way to remove these spots effectively is to use PS6 and go frame by frame using the paint brush, clone stamp, and spot healing brush. It is very time consuming and mind numbing but the only thing that works with all tha movement of the aircraft and the ground below.
    My question:
    Right now to advance the clip one frame at a time - I must magnify the time line so to see the frame by frame lables. To advance to the next frame I must remove my cursor from the work area and go down to the time line and click on the next frame.
    How can I advance to the next frame with a keyboard stroke and not move my cursor out of the work area?
    Thank you in advance for any help.

  • No video playback in premiere CS6 trial

    Hi,
    I am trying to use the Adobe Premiere CS6 trial on my laptop but I can't get the video playback to display at all. There is audio playback, just no video. I can get a paused frame to show if I double-click on the playback area but pressing play does not make the video play, only the audio. Stopping the playback displays the latest current frame again.
    My laptop's specs are as follows:
    Toshiba notebook
    Intel i7 2.40GHz
    8gb RAM
    500+ gb free space
    Windows 8 64
    Latest Intel display drivers installed
    The video files I am importing in my sequence are .mov files, 1920x1088 @ 23 FPS.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks for your time,

  • Considering dumping my iMac for a PC used for DSLR video editing on Premiere CS6. Help!

    So I edit mostly 1080p DSLR footage taken from my canon T3i camera. I purchased a 2011 (the latest model) iMac a little over a year ago, upgraded the RAM to 12GB and it has worked reasonably well. I purchased the base model for $1200 which has a quad core i5 processor, 512mb of video ram, and a measly 500gb hard drive. The past couple of days I have come to the realization that I only use Adobe Programs for graphically intensive work (premiere, after effects, etc). I originally bought my iMac for final cut, but FCPX SUCKS and I switched to Premiere CS6 which works like a dream. Anyways, I'm a senior in high school and do lots of video editing (going to major in video production in college). I'm likely going to differ college for a year and continue my video production business (pretty informal) as well as video production internships at a couple companies (so don't suggest that I get a laptop for portability, not an issue). I just shot an entire wedding with 2 DSLR's and the footage takes up over 20% of my hard drive which is unacceptable. This is very troublesome for me and has been clogging up my computer considerably. I have realized it would make a lot of sense to sell my iMac and purchase a PC that's not only faster, but has much more space. I was ideally looking to sell my iMac for $1000, and from that get a better and faster PC setup for my video editing. $200 would be allocated for a 24" 1080p LED 5ms Asus monitor (from newegg) which would leave $800 remaining for the PC. Ideally it'd be nice to have a little cash left over. Some things that sound appealing to me are: an intel i7 quad core proccessor at least 3.0+ Ghz,  16 GB of ram (maybe 8 to start), 1 GB of video RAM (here is where I'm stuck, my Imac had a Radeon 512mb video card in it, but I've heard premiere runs especially well with nVidia CUDA cards? Don't really know too much about this stuff.) I have no idea what type of card to get, and if I would even see a performance upgrade from my iMac. For storage I'd like at least 2TB of space, should I get two seperate 1 TB drives? One for boot and software and another for video files? Anyways, I assume I can benefit from selling my 2011 i5 iMac to get a faster PC equivalent at a lower price since I mainly edit videos (which is pretty graphically intense) from an HD DSLR camera. I've noticed premiere rendering times on my mac are starting to get pretty slow these days. Ideally it'd be nice to buy a desktop (already assembled) maybe from HP for around $600 (not including the monitor). I'm not completely against building a PC from parts (since I know a friend who can do it for me) I just need help figuring out WHAT exactly it is that I need and would benefit from.

    Is the code you told me about (above), is it necessary for older browsers such as ie8? I thought you were saying it was for the HTML5 tags and I wasn't sure I'd bother with it. If it helps people with ie8, I probably should add it.
    I include it (or a link to a localized copy of the file) by default now.
    To truly support the ancient browsers out there, you'd likely need something like...
    <video width="500" height="500">
        <source src="video.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
        <source src="video.ogv" type="video/ogg" />
        <source src="video.webm" type="video/webm" />
        <object width="500" height="500">
        <param name="movie" value="video.swf" />
        <embed src="video.swf" width="500" height="500"></embed>
        </object>
    </video>
    I don't bother with a Flash fall back for old browsers though. I just put in text letting the viewer know they're behind the times pretty severely, like...
    <video width="500" height="500">
        <source src="video.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
        <source src="video.ogv" type="video/ogg" />
        <source src="video.webm" type="video/webm" />
        <p>Your browser is horribly, helplessly and hilariously outdated. Visit <a href="firefox.com" target="_blank">www.firefox.com</a> to download something better, more secure, modern, worthwhile, etc, etc...</p>
    </video>
    For junky old browsers that can't see any HTML5 (which the <video> and <audio> tags are), they get a text message to get something better and a link to go there.

  • Missing video transitions in Premiere CS6

    Greeting everyone,
    It seems that I am missing some 3D motion transition effects in Premiere CS6. I only have Cube Spin and Flip Over, but I know (and have seen) more transitions on other people's installations. I can't seem to find anywhere to download them either. I assumed they came with base CS6, but I don't have them. Where can I download some more? Or how do I restore the ones that I should have?

  • 2009 & 2010 MacPro upgrading for today´s Video-editing (Premiere Pro CS6 & After Effects)

    I have now two  MacPro´s: MacPro4,1 (Early 2009/Nehalem) and MacPro5,1 (Early 2010/Nehalem) and I was wondering how to get the best of them for video-editing with Premiere Pro and After Effects (CS6 or later CC) for todays standards.
    The specs of the machines:
    MacPro5,1
    Early 2010 Nehalem
    (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-quad-core-2.8-mid-2010-nehalem -specs.html)
    2.8GHz     Quad-core Xeon W3530 (256k level 2 cache, 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cache)
    32GB RAM "1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM" (PC3-8500) modules (4 x 8GB)
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory is installed in a double-wide, 16-lane PCI Express 2.0 graphics slot.
    single 1 TB (7200 RPM, 32 MB cache) Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive.
    + I have added a 480GB SSD-drive via PCIe (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe/OWC/Mercury_Accelsior/RAID )
    The 480GB PCIe SSD-drive is now the boot-drive and gets writes over 500MB/s and reads over 600MB/s testing with "BlackMagic Speed Test"-application. The 480GB SSD-drive that is connected via PCIe-card has also two eSATA ports on it. How could I take advantage of them? Is this just a bottleneck, what would you think. Would I get the same results if I had just Samsung 840 SSD installed with adapter-device to the internal drive bay 2.5" SATAII connections?
    What about the graphic card?
    What would you suggest to do for the setup to maximize it´s potential (For now it´s working fine)? Would it be good idea ome 7200rpm hard-drives for media and cache storage or do I need that or can I see significant improvements over it since there is still 3 3,5" internal hard drive bays with SATA II connections (and the two eSATA ports).
    MacPro4,1
    (Early 2009/ Nehalem)
    (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-eight-core-2.66-early-2009-neh alem-specs.html)
    - 8-cores: powered by two2.66 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Xeon X5550 (Nehalem) processors with a dedicated 256k of level 2 cache for each core and 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cacheper processor.
    - 34GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM
    -NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512 MB of GDDR3
    A lot like the MacPro5,1 but does have a bit different graphic cards and more memory and cores.
    Any ideas?

    First and foremost: keep an eye on that 480G PCI-E SSD that you dumped a lot of money into.  Those OWC drives aren't known for their robustness or reliability (OWC folks will argue with that statement.  Ignore them).  Since OS and apps are easy to re-install, it may not be a big deal.  But don't put any of your projects on it, even though it's a fairly quick device.
    Second, start adding SATA drives to the other 3 bays.  Fill them up with the biggest drives you feel comfortable buying.  Make one of them a 10k RPM drive for your scratch space.  The others can be 7200RPM drives; since you're limited to SATA2, there's not much use in trying to crank serious disk bandwidth through the system.
    Video cards.  Get rid of those OEM garbage cards.  Drop them into a chipper/shredder, in fact.  Contact this guy about getting flashed nVidia cards that will work in both Macs, and will help with Pr and Ae.  Dave can sell you a flashed GTX780 that will boot (with grey Apple screen) and run in the Mac just fine.  And it'll outperform anything Apple has ever sold for those Mac Pros.

  • Video blank (white) after using Create Apple TV version

    Hello,
    I have an MP4 file that cannot be played directly on Apple TV (won't sync). The movie will play in iTunes and separately using QuickTime. So I used the Advanced menu Create Apple TV version option to convert the video to be compatible with Apple TV. The conversion completes without error and automatically syncs to my Apple TV but when I play the converted version either on my Apple TV (or from iTunes) only the sound plays and the video is blank (all white). The original file has these attributes:
    Format: AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz, H.264, 1280x720, Millions
    Movie FPS: 29.97
    Playing FPS: 29.97
    Data Size: 7.81 MB
    Data Rate: 128.03 kbit/sec
    Current Time: 00:00:00.00
    Duration: 00:08:32.28
    Normal Size: 1280x720 pixels
    Current Size: 1280x720 pixels
    iTunes is at the latest version, 8.01.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Peter

    I suspect there might be something wrong with the original file, a file with a frame rate of 30 and a resolution of 720p is unlikely to have a bitrate of 128 kbps and file size of 7 MB.

    I imported the video in psd cs6 version but it gave me error msg telling the request cannot be completed as the dynamic path is not available...Anyone know what to do

    Without system information and other details like what specific footage files nobody can say much. in any case, the DynamicLink Media Server not being avialable means it is being blocked or did not launch, which is a system problem.
