Video brightness problems with mini hooked up to TV

I have a Late 2012 Mac mini that I use as a media hub in my living room. It's hooked up via HDMI to a Pioneer amp and then the display is piped to a Samsung TV. When watching content purchased through the iTMS in full-screen mode, the brightness changes every few seconds from what looks to be "normal" to fairly dark and muddy. The content is watchable, but the constant change in brightness does get annoying. If I watch the content inside the iTunes window, I don't get the strobing; it's only when watching the video Full Screen. I've looked through the settings on the amp and the TV but haven't found one that affects the problem I'm seeing. Has anyone else seen something like this? Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot it?

Hi.
It seems that I finally have found a solution to this problem. It is not perfect, but at least it stops the screen from changing the brightness randomly when watching movies from my mac mini.
The solution is to go into settings, accessability and turn on switch control. I hide the switch control as much as possible in one of the corners down to the left or right corner and makes it as small as possible. It seems it must be active on order to stop the screen from flickering, so I can live with that.
As I said, it is not perfect because a small corner of the switch control will be visible while watching movies, but it is better than the flickering.
If anyone has another or better solution to this problem I´m all ears:)
Have a flicker free afternoon all who have had this problem on mac´s or other iOS devices.

I am sorry but your question is not completely clear. What Apple product are you having problems with?

  • Video out problem with Dynex 32" 720p TV

Hi folks.  I bought my new Dynex TV a few days before New Years.  It's great, really sharp, and I've had no problems with it.  However, I do have a DVD recorder so I can record my games.  Tonight, I attempted to use the A/V output on my TV and connected them to my DVD recorder (which plugs into my computer).  I clicked "capture" and got an error telling me that a connection could not be established and that I should double check my cables.  I could hear the audio playing through my laptop speakers just fine.  I couldn't see the video, for some reason .
It's not the cables, I just took them off of my old TV to use them here.
What can I do?  Should I return my TV?

What about output from a gaming console, like a PS3? Is that only digital sources or does it matter how the PS3 is connected to the television to determine if's its a digital or analog signal?  Right now I get no output when I try to send the video of my PS3 to my composite video in on my computer's TV tuner card.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • IPod Touch 2nd Gen Video Out Problem with Apple Component Cable

I'm trying to get video out working with my iPod touch connected to my TV. Here's the information.
32 GB iPod Touch 2nd Gen
    Apple Universal Dock (current version.)
Apple Component Out cable for iPod (current version that connects with a dock connector.
I've connected the component cables into the component video input on my TV. When I start playing any video (purchased off iTunes store in Standard Def,) I get a scrambled picture that appears to be the video, and no sound. I purchased the TV in South Korea and haven't gotten to test it yet on a TV back in the US. I have my video out settings with wide screen turned off and set to NTSC (South Korea uses NTSC.) I've also tried every setting combination, and switching the cable connections with the same or similar results. Sorry if a similar problem has been posted elsewhere, but after searching, I couldn't find any similar behavior. Any ideas on what might be the cause? I don't have any other component devices to check if the component on the TV is bad.

I've got that same problem: iPod Touch 2nd Gen, Apple Component Cables, and an HD TV.
The funny thing is, the cable works fine with an iPod Classic (160 GB) but not for the iPod Touch. Can anyone explain why that is?

  • Video import problem from mini dv

    Hello,
I have a problem importing footage from a *Canon mv700i* DV camera (via firewire) with imovie 09. I can control the camera but only see pixels when I hit play. This problem has been troubling me for some time. I already found this solution: http://macosx.com/tech-support/mac/v...idv/11613.html
    (the *garageband fix*)
This used to work but now it doesnt and I dont really know what the real problem is anyway. In the past it sometimes worked miraculously but then some days later I have the same problem.
    Could anyone please help me?

    Hi
Canon is known to be problematic when Daisy chained with an external hard disk to Mac.
Here is my unsorted list on this topic.
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape.
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
    from LKN 1935.
Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check.
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?

If so it has to be Mac OS Extended formatted
----> UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange is NOT Working for VIDEO !

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
    No Camera or bad import
    • USB hard disk
    • Network storage
    • File Vault is on

  • No Video, Possibly Problem With Cable?

Sorry i this is kinda long, I don't know how I can explain it shorter!
    I'm getting a strange problem.
Here are the steps that my computer goes through when I boot it up:
    1. Gets to the 38 (from LED debug panel) and beeps. I think that this is a sign that everything is working
    2. Keeps going through the different posts until around the 75 mark I have a choice:
--- If I just let my machine run, it goes back to 31: "Initialize onboard devices. Load Option ROM from BIOS to memory" and is stuck there.
--- However, If I press the delete key (which is the key to get me into BIOS) then it stays at 87: "Enter setup screen. BIOS setup if needed/requested.". Then, like I'm in BIOS, if I press escape then enter, it leaves 87 (which I'm guessing is BIOS) and goes to 31, like in the first option.
All this time, there is no video.
Because everything looks like it's doing all right (except for the video), as it makes sense that if there's no OS on a drive to boot into and the user doesn't access BIOS, that the computer should get stuck, I thought that the problem was probably with the video card.
I had another card on hand, also a PCIe card with the DVI port, so I tested that one as well, and it does the exact same thing as the other, so I'm guessing it's not a problem with my GPU.
I also know that my monitor works, as I've been using it or the past few months with my other computer. However, the only thing that's been changed with video is from using a VGA cable to a DVI one. There's no way to test with VGA with my current card, so I'm thinking that it might be a problem with my one and only DVI cable.
So, what do you all think? Am I right in my thinking? I'd rather figure out the source of the problem before buying another cable, just to test. Thanks a ton!

    Wow I feel dumb.
For anyone with the same problem in the future, remember to press the button that changes from VGA to DVI ><

  • Router Console Connect Problem With Mini Usb (1941 Series - Os Win7 64Bit) (SOLVED)

I can not connect console with mini usb, my router is cisco 1941 series and my os win7 x64 help me please ?
    My problem was solved thanks to this topic;
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11492306/usb-console-driver-install-failing#comment-9697916

    Hi,
Here is how I have managed to enable the communication with the 1941 using the usb A-B cable:
Download the usb console driver 3.1
Install the x64 version on your PC (as administrator)
    After the installation was completed:
Open the Device Manager. There will be a new entry named “CiscoUsbConsoleWindowsDrive”. Expand it and select the “Cisco USB to Serial adaptor”.
From the drop-down select “Update Driver Software…
In the “Update Drive Software” dialog select “Browse my computer for driver software”
In the next window, a driver location should be displayed, if not browse your PC and find the …\Windows_64 folder where you have extracted the 3.1 driver.
After the driver software was updated, there should be a new entry in the “Ports (COM &LPT)” named “Cisco Serial (COMx)”.
You can configure the port here:
    Right click on the “Cisco Serial (COMx)” and select “properties” and set the properties to this;
    Bits per second :9600
    Data bits              :8
    Parity                    :None
    Stop bits              :1
    Flow control       :None
The new COM port should be ready to accept the connection with the router.
I am using Tera Terms VT, and it is working well with the above driver and settings.
Should you wont to use the Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) download the 2.7 version and make shore you have the current Adobe Flush and a current Java installed on you PC.
    Hope this will help.

  • FCP External Video Playback problem with HDV

Hey all. I just got the Canon HV30 HD camcorder and it is excellent. I am able to import the HDV footage to FCP no problem. I'm recording in 24p mode by the way.
I can't seem to get playback from the timeline back to the Canon so I can see the edited footage on the Camcorder's LCD screen. I've tried everything. All the settings seem to be grayed out. How am I suppose to get my edited footage from the computer back to tape? Help is much appreciated!
    Greekappi

I'm not the person at our facility that does this, but we do it all the time. However we are using the Sony HDV decks, 25U or something like that.
I have also seen the stuttering video you described, I'm not sure why it does this on some projects and not others, it is very random. When it does stutter I render out a complete self contained Quicktime and then print to tape from that. However, I occasionally still have this problem with that? But it does seem to help more often than not.

  • Flip Video camera & problems with iMovie 08

If you are having problems with iMovie and Flip Video, here is the Flip Video email response on 27 May 2008:
    Hello,
    Thank you for your response.
We are not authorized to support third party applications, which is why we do not provide specific instructions regarding iMovie or any other third party application. We only support the Flip and the Flip program, while offering suggestions regarding other programs.
The Apple website also offers Perian as a workaround regarding audio on the Tiger operating system with the latest QuickTime. The latest QuickTime upgrade didn’t allow for audio playback of AVI files, which is why Perian is now offered as a work around by us and by Apple.
It seems as though you are able to playback your videos, as well as use them in outside applications. If this is not the case, and you are having issues using your Flip video or your Flip video program, feel free to contact us further.

This is my email to Flip Video on 26 May 2008:
My MAC Updater downloaded the new QT 7.4.5 on 5 Apr 2008. I have been making movies in iMovie, and then posting them to YouTube. In the beginning I uploaded the movies as MOV files but soon discovered AVI files (larger file and longer time to upload) had more clarity when viewed on YouTube. Once the new QT 7.4.5 downloaded all my AVI files had picture, but no sound! I downloaded the Perian component as posted in QT discussions. The sound returned to the AVI files. However, when I Exported an AVI movie from iMovie the picture quality was worse than the MOV movie. There is something wrong with the new QT 7.4.5 when working with AVI, my AVI movies look terrible. These AVI files were all downloaded from my Ultra Flip Video camera with Flip’s codec 3vix. Flip is aware of this problem and acknowledged it last Friday. Flip says Apple is aware of the problem.
My MAC PowerPc G4 has performed well in the past two months when working with the Flip Video camera. So, at Flip Video’s suggestion I upgraded the operating system to OS 10.5 from OS 10.4.11. Flip Video says their camera works with OS 10.5. Once OS 10.5 was uploaded I soon discovered that iMovie 08 would not operate on my PowerPc G4, 1.86 MHz. The speed requirement for iMovie 08 is 1.9 GHz.
At this point of “spinning my wheels for nearly a month” with this Flip Video camera, I decided to purchase a new iMac. On May 2, 2008, I walked out of the Apple Store in Walnut Creek with the new iMac 20-inch: 2.66GHz. Now the Flip video camera should work and all my video problems solved. However, this was not to be.
When I attempted to Import Flip Video AVI and MOV files into iMovie 08 the files were “grayed out” and would not Import. None of my previous Flip Video files would Import. I tried making new Flip Video movies, they also would not Import into iMovie 08.
At another Apple Store, the tech suggested I download the previous version of iMovie HD. I did this and with hours of working through the different Export options I was able to create movies to post again on youTube. However, the picture quality of the newer iMovies has never approached the quality of my last post before QT 7.4.5 downloaded. Remember my problems started with QT 7.4.5. Well, my new iMac came with QT 7.4.1, I have not Uploaded QT 7.4.5 and won’t until Flip Video fixes this problem.
Examples of my Flip Video movies can be viewed on youTube at: sffoggydays. The last video with excellent picture quality was posted 6 Apr 2008 titled “A Day at the San Francisco Zoo, Chapter Nine, L-Taravel Ride to BART.” This video was made in iMovie and Exported before QT 7.4.5 downloaded. All the youTube Flip Videos made after 6 Apr 2008 have poor picture quality.
It is time for Flip Video camera to stop “passing the buck” to Apple. When manufactures of operating system such as Apple and Microsoft create newer and upgraded systems, it is the responsibility of the manufactures of applications to redo their programs for operating on the new systems. Here is where Flip Video is not accepting this responsibility to Mac users of their camera. The Flip Video application/codex/drivers need to be updated in order to fix the following problems:
    - No sound on AVI files in QT 7.4.5
    - No Import of AVI and MOV files in iMovie 08
    - Poor picture quality for youTube in Export of iMovie HD
I like my Flip Video camera, want to continue making movies for youTube, and recommending the camera to others. The Flip Video camera people need to fix these problems for Mac users.

    Hi!
    I agree 100%!
I also purchased the Flip Video - was thrilled to see that they worked with Apple computers. I made several movies with it when I had my PowerBook G4. I went on a great vacation & took several once in a lifetime videos. Got home & couldn't wait to put them in my iMoive -06, burn them on my iDVD and sent them to several family members & friends. Before I got the chance, I had my system updater tell me that there was a new version to QT. GREAT, I thought, just in time for my vacation videos. Like you, after the QuickTime upgrade, I got video, but no sound. I was SICK about it! I also wrote to the Flip people & got a response somewhat like yours. I left the videos on my Flip which left no room for any others, but I didn't want to take the chance of losing them. After reading from Flip that it would work with OS 10.5 system, I talked myself into getting a new MacBook Pro. Came with all the upgrades iLife -08 and the OS 10.5.2 OK...finally, after months of stressing over losing the vacation videos, I had all I needed to save them! Of course the $2,000.00 price tag hurt a bit, but I deserve a new computer.
Well...I STILL can't get my priceless vacation videos edited and burned! I tried downloading 2 different programs that were supposed to help convert my Flip movies to something that would work, but they haven't. I could get it to work on my desktop with QT, but what good is that?? I want to make DVD's to send to others & save for my grandkids (if I ever am lucky enough to get some!)
I'm TOTALLY disgusted & feel I've wasted my money on the Flip Camera (that at one time I loved & was seriously considering giving them as gifts) the $2,000.00 on a new computer (that even though I do deserve, didn't REALLY need one yet!) AND I still have vacation videos that I can't share!
So... I agree! Flip should honor their word that is printed on the box & MAKE it work with all Apple computers. Surely they can find a fix!
TOTALLY disgusted with the whole FLIP/APPLE mess!
Oh, Flip also said they 'heard' that QuickTime Pro would work with iMovie -08 - although they haven't actually tested it themselves. NO THANKS!!! I've got WAY too much money invested in this stupid Flip camera!

Flip video ( I just bought one) makes AVI files (AVI is a container like QT is one) using 3ivX. All you need is the free Perian codec and you can playback, edit etc. Export the to a MOV container which doesn't reencode them and you should have usable files.
They have a valid point - they supply software and they have no obligation to make their camera work in iMovie. Reviews I have read say it works OK in IM6 vs. the iLife 08 version. Note that QT doesn't work natively with DivX, WMV and you don't see Apple saying they are obligated to fix Quicktime. They like their codecs and they don't care about others any more than Flip does.
You can always open in MPEG Streamclip and export them to a non lossy codec like Animation and use those new QT files as well. Or DV as another format option.

  • IChat video conferencing problems with D-Link WBR-1310

    Howdy,
I am having a few problems with iChat video conferencing. I use the D-Link WBR-1310 wireless router and a MacBook. My girlfriend has a MacBook Pro at her school which she connects to via ethernet. I connect to my router via wireless. The routher is connected to a DSL modem. iChat video conferencing tends to work sometimes but very rarely. I have DMZ on the router turned on as i read somewhere on these forums that it was recommended. I also have the Apple firewall turned off so my laptop is pretty much naked as far as security is concerned. Three other computers use the network One desktop PC connected directly into the router and two Apple iBooks which are connected via the wireless. The problem is that i keep getting error message -8. Can anyone please help?
    Thanks in Advance

I'd start by verifying you have the most recent firmware installed on your router.
Next, start off by trying to test to a user that has no known issues: http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/ContactTesters.html (Bottom of the page)
That will help pinpoint where the connection issue lies.
Once you can succefully connected, then you should set up a static ip address on your mac and port forward the necessary ports in your router. If you router supports UPnP, I'd try enabling the first.
    I hope this helps!

  • Audio/Firewire Problems with Mini, Please Help!

I just bought a brand new Mini from Amazon.com and am having some problems. First, when I plug computer speakers into the mini, the sound continues to come from the internal speaker and the mini ignores the speakers. In System Preferences, it doesn't even recognize that something is plugged into the machine.
Second, the Mini does not recognize my external, Firewire iSight camera. In System Profiler, it does not show anything connected to the port when the camera is connected.
The Mini is the latest rev running 10.4.11. Leopard upgrade disks should be in the mail soon.
Any ideas as to what is wrong? Should I just return to Amazon for a replacement? Thanks for your help!

Having just posted in a similar situation, pardon the cut and paste, but these are the first two (and easiest) things to try:
First reset parameter RAM - it's an area of non-volatile memory used for system settings and hardware configuration. It it gets corrupted, it can cause odd problems.
    Reset PRAM
    -Shut down the computer.
-Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step but one.
    -Turn on the computer.
-Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    -Release the keys.
Next, perform an SMC reset. The SMC is the device which controls system hardware and devices, so if there is a problem with hardware components not functioning, it could be that.
To reset the SMC on an Intel mini:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
