Video but no audio when exporting from iPhoto

I have very small (30 sec) clips of video from a digital camera downloaded into iPhoto. When I export or share a clip to QuickTimePro 7, iMovie, my desktop, or e-mail the video goes, but no audio. I have tried so many different ways, I can't even remember what I've done. Can anyone help? I'm at my wits end, and it's a video of my baby laughing for the first time and I want to send it to everyone!!!

With the video open in the QuickTime Player, choose Show Movie Properties from the Window menu, click on the Resources tab, control-click on the entry which contains the file's location on your computer, and choose Show in Finder from the menu which appears. Once the file has been located, download MPEG Streamclip and use it to convert the file; save the converted file on the desktop.

  • Video but No audio when playing  from ITunes. What could be wrong?

I'm trying to play video from iTunes on my Apple TV. I get the video but no audio. I am able to view from Netflix fine. What could be the problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try adjusting the audio out and dolby digital settings.

  • No audio when exporting from mpeg to flv

We have two PCs with Premiere Pro and AME installed, and just upgraded to CC. On one computer exporting works fine, on the other one, I'm losing the audio when exporting from mpeg to flv. I have used the same preset as on the other computer (that works) and also tried other presets that came with AME.
I can't figure out why this wouldn't work on one but works fine on the other? Anyone who knows?

How are you determining that the FLV has no audio?  Are you playing it back in VLC Player or importing it into Flash?
Also, do you see a full range of formats on the system where you don't hear audio?  If some formats are missing this might be  a licensing issue.  Also check if AME recognizes audio on the MPEG source (hover over it  in the queue and look for  audio info in the tool tip).

  • Impoting video but no audio when played back.

Never had trouble with IMovie before until now.
Trying to transfer home videos from a regular dvd.
When I play the clips, I get the video but no audio. If I open up another window (could be anything outside IMovie) I get the audio.
If I switch back to the IMovie window, no audio. I have my dvd player connected to a converter because I have an 8mm camcorder. Also, whenever I switch from edit mode to camera mode, IMovie crashes (sometimes). My converter is a Canopus ADV 110.

Try downloading the free program MPEG Streamclip. (Just Google it.) Drag your clip into the window of Streamclip, pull down the Streamclip File menu, and click on Convert to aiff, or something like that.
Likely your problem is that your clip contains an audio format or mixed material that is incompatible with iMovie. That's why it plays elsewhere but not in iMovie. Streamclip should be able to convert it to an aiff file, which works well with iMovie.

  • Inaccurate GPS data when exporting from iPhoto

I'm trying to export geotagged photos from iPhoto, and I'm experience some odd behavior.
    1) When I tag the photos outside of iPhoto, the photos' geo information comes up correctly in Places, but when I try to export the photo (either drag to desktop or File > Export > File Export and set +Kind: Current+ ) I get the correct latitude but the longitude is on the other side of the world according to Preview. (My best guess, I'd say about 180° off.) If I export the same photo but set +Kind: JPEG+ the location info in Preview looks fine.
    2) I see similar behavior when I try to export a photo I geotag within iPhoto. If I drag-export or File > Export with +Kind: Current+ (as above), the exported file has no geo info, but if I export with +Kind: JPEG+ it's fine.
I'm trying to geotag photos for a friend and then send the pics back to him, but I don't want to re-compress them. Has anyone else encountered this and come up with a workaround?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

Seems like iPhoto may not be well suited for working on other people's photos since it requires an import/add followed by an export. iPhoto isn't really build for this sort of thing.
Instead you might try something like Graphic Converter. You can browse your folders (no importing necessary) and Geocode photos by using Google Earth to locate the positions. GC will then apply that current Earth location to any selected photos with a menu item. This writes the data directly to the photos so no need to export either and it doesn't effect the photos in any way by re-compressing or otherwise processing the photos themselves.
    Best of luck,
    Patrick

  • Video but no audio when played on other machines

iMovie to iDVd. Burns OK, plays on iMac as it should, but then when checked on other stand alone machines - video fine, but no audio at all.
No problems up until recently. Checked settings - seem to be the same.
Using PAL settings. Burning to DVD - R.
Any suggestions about where to start checking appreciated.

    Hi Kaik and welcome
Is this an iDVD6 project that you currently have on
your computer now? If so, please try burning a disc
image to the desktop from the file menu within
    iDVD6.
Then test the image with Apple's DVD Player
application. If it plays exactly as expected within
this DVD Player application then the issue is with
the media, your burn speed, and/or the set top DVD
    Player and not iDVD6.
You can lower the burn speed in Roxio Toast like
    this:
or if you prefer use Apple's Disc Utilities and lower
the burn speed there like this:
Hope this process of elimination makes some sense but
if not please feel free to ask further questions.
    Good luck!
Thanks SDMacuser for your prompt response to my question.
Working through your suggestions and trying to isolate where the problem may lie. Mention of a Disk image was something I had never tried, and very useful for future reference, once this problem is solved.
Haven't got the latest version of "Toast" so will purchase that. Tried a separate Sony standalone DVD player. Video and sound there, but not on the Sony DVD hard drive recorder nor on familes back in NZ. Very strange. Will keep on working through your other suggestions.
Liviing on a small rock in the Pacific and being abe to source help such as yours via internet is very much appreciated. Thank you for your time and expertise. Will be back in touch. Cheers,Keith

  • Data lost when exporting from iPhoto?

When exporting photos from iPhoto, the descriptions of the photos (here bird and animal names) get lost.  Is this true, or are we doing it incorrectly?
    Thanks!
    Ed

It depends on how you exported.  To get the ITPC fileds written to the file it must be exported via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = JPEG and the two checkboxes checked:
That will embed the metadata into the exported file.

  • How do I keep the time and date stamp of my photo when exporting from iphoto

    Hi,
I notice the time and date stamp changed when I exported the photos from iPhoto 11 to a external HDD.
When I looked at the information about the exported photos on my external HDD the time and date changed to the time and date of when I exported the photos form iPhoto instead of keeping the time and date information of when the photo was taken as it appears in iPhoto.
I thought the time and date stamp is in the meta data of the photo file and can't be changed, am I correct?
    Thanks,

    Kyzelios,
How can view the meta data from "finder" or do I need a 3rd party app?
"Get info" function only gives me the creation date which is the export date and time.

  • Controlling level of JPEG compression when exporting from iPhoto 6?

    Hi all,
I'm wondering whether one can adjust the level of JPEG compression when exporting images?
I'm still on iPhoto 4 that unfortunately doesn't offer this option and by default produces fairly large images that aren't well suited for web presentations.
I'd be happy to upgrade to iPhoto 6 for that feature alone.
    Cheers Martin

    HI Martin,
There is no compression option in the File>export window. You can however input size dimensions so a 2592x1944 can be exported to any 4x3 value such as 800x600

  • No audio when exporting from iMovie

I am trying to export my HD movie from imovie in HD size format 1280x720, when I do I am not getting any audio. Is there something that I am missing, a mute check box or special setting? I have looked everywhere but just cant figure it out.

This is speculation on my part so take it with a grain of salt.
But first you have to realize that iMovie renders the entire movie, effects, music, transitions, photos, etc. in one pass. If you use Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro, you can render a sequence, or render a nest of sequences. You can create a much longer movie this way without taxing your machine.
Secondly, the Intel architecture has a graphics processor that offloads a lot of the heavy lifting to a video chip or video card. On a PowerPC (RISC) architecture, everything goes through the CPU.

  • 16:9 video sides cut off when exported from After Effects

When I export a 16:9 video from After Effects, the sides are cut off in the exported clip.  I've tried different export settings and and my composition settings are correct, from what I can tell. Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!

and my composition settings are correct, from what I can tell.
But are they really? We cannot know, because you don't say anything about your exact render settings and comp settings, which is what is required here. You could be using an unsuitable CoDec or even crop your output inadvertently by using a specific output module setting....

  • Distorted Audio when exporting from iMovie 11

In iMovie 11 the edited movie sounds fine. But when the movie is exported to the media browser or Vimeo, the audio is distorted. It sounds like gain has been set way too high. I have used this version iMovie a lot and have never encountered this problem. Ideas?

I've been trying to export imovie to real player- the video goes across fine, but there is no audio. And i can actually export audio to real player by itself and it plays fine.
So video or audio fine; but i can't seem to get them both!
I'd be very grateful for any help or tips.
    Cheers,

Once i play it in idvd, only the first audio track plays, the rest of the slide show is silent. I have completley re done the entire show, re importing all the photos and audio, and still the same exact problem. HELP, I need this for a presentation this weekend!!!

  • Strange glitch in my audio when exporting from FCPX.

I just finished my short film in FCPX today, and exported it. I used Apple's ProRes 422(HQ) format to export it using the "Export Using Compressor Settings" options. I was content with the video quality, however the audio was I believe to have been corrupted. I played my video in QuickTime X and on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro I can hear really annoying and distracting glitches that keep cutting up my audio and making the bass sound extremely weird. In the end, I put my video in iMovie, silenced out the audio and put on a track of the same song I was using in the original video. And just like I expected, the audio of the file that came out of iMovie did not have any of these weird glitches. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong in FCPX that is casuing this problem or it might be something to do with the software itself? Perhaps bugs?

No, they are AAC audio files, 256kbps that I got from my iTuens library. So they need to be AIFF at 48k? Does the convert option to AIFF in iTunes satisfy this criteria? I am relatively new to audio formatting and related issues.
