Video calling e71

Hi, can I video call form my e71 to my PC (or mac). I have downloaded Skype and Fring and tried to call myself from Mac but no video options are available. The instructions for Fring suggest you just opt for video call - but it;'s not there. Searched on the net and a lot of people say they are doing it - like it isn't an issue. Wondering if it could be an 02 thing? Any help would be appreciated

I have been scouring the web for solutions to this problem.
However, it would appear that : Skype does not allow video calls on Nokia E71 !!
I have even posted on the Skype forum itself. It's amazing how many people have asked the same question.
Surprisingly, there have been NO responses. Which leads one to conclude that Nokia E71 is out of luck, where skype is concerned !!
You can only make voice calls. No video.

I'm currently using Nimbuzz to keep all contacts from all applications in one place (funny how Motorola suddenly released a phone in the UK with a similar function on it).
I wanted to make video calls, but it would appear that this is not a function available through Skype or Nimbuzz.
I've looked around on the internet, and found that Gizmo, Fringe and Nimbuzz all do similar things but, alas, no video calls
I notice that there is a small camera on the front of the phone, this would appear to be for recording videos. Can I record videos on the E71 and send them to people?
Is anybody (Nokia, Symbian, Skype, Nimbuzz, Gizmo, Fringe etc) working on utilizing the camera for streaming video calls over the internet?

Bump to this thread. I can share what I have read elsewhere.... though it doesn't fully answer your question.
First, the E71 natively has the capability to stream video calls over 3g networks. But presumably the operators and phones of both parties must support this service. Unfortunately, I cannot test this. On my phone, when I select a contact from the address book, and select Options->Call->Video Call, I get the message: "Video call not supported by network". You may have better luck.
As far as third-party apps, a quick Google search yields this promising blog post about Octrotalk: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2008/11/network-independent-s60-video-calling-is-here-with-octro... (though not free).
The front camera can also be also be used with certain third party software (i.e. CameraFX) to take stills. Check out this thread: /discussions/board/message?board.id=communicators&message.id=41254

Right. That's old firmware. Have you tried updating it?

FaceTime is more like video chat not video calling. The latter of which is normally charged a per minute rate from the cellular carrier (ie: Rogers in Canada charges $0.25/minute for Video Calling). Apple is licensing the FaceTime API to other developers for free. I suggest for your friends/family that want FaceTime on their cellphone to forward a feedback request to the manufacturer of their cellphone or join the rest of us by upgrading to the iPhone 4

No the Nokia E5 does not have a front-facing camera, only a back-facing one. The Nokia E71 and Nokia E72 do have front-facing cameras though, if that's what you require. Your best advice as to if those phones are still available for sale in your country or not, is to contact your major mobile phone retailers in your country, and they will be able to direct you. If that fails, then perhaps check smaller phone retailers around your area, and if still no luck, then contact Nokia directly through a Nokia Care point or by clicking the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page. As they are discontinued products, you may or may not have any luck. If you are really eager and desperate, then there's always online retailers or eBay or Amazon or Gumtree, but please exercise safety as you would with any online transactions.

It's easily solved - switch it back to GSM only and say you've not got a 3G signal

If the DroidX had a front camera how easy would it be to video call with Skype or Fringe?

Apparently EVO with Sprint you can video conference with Fringe but is this something that has to been done through WIFI? I was ready to upgrade to the DroidX but I am wondering if I should hold off for the front camera. I love using Skype video and it would be amazing to have this feature on the phone if it is an easy thing to do.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone is knowledgable about this information.

Since that is a hypothetical situation (Droid X front camera), there is no real way to even guess how the carrier or manufacture would implement this feature because if you look at how other devices use this feature you notice that they are not implementing this feature the same way. Also in regards to the EVO video calls is across the 4G network but from what I have read they have been experiencing a lot of connection issues do to the network being over whelmed (which isnt a surprise)...

IPhone Jabber Client Video Calls Unavailable

I'm having trouble getting my iPhone to make video calls. I can make video calls via J4W with the same CUCM/IM-P cluster, and my iPhone Jabber client is having no problem getting IMs, presence information, or making standard voice calls, but when I go to "Settings - Audio and Video", it simply has a message that says "Video is currently unavailable"
The "Dual-Mode for iPhone" device in CUCM has video calling enabled. What other settings could I be missing?

Hi
Does Jabber for windows support video calling in deskphone mode? I have 7942 IP Phone, VT advantage camera on Laptop and Jabber clinet insatlled on laptop. Can i make video callng with Jabber in Deskphone mode?

Yes, Jabber for Windows supports video calling in deskphone mode.
You'll need to install the Cisco Media Service Interface specific to your version of Jabber and correctly configure Jabber for Deskphone Video.
Please follow these instructions to configure Deskphone Video:
For Jabber for Windows 9.1
For Jabber for Windows 9.2
Once completed, if you run Jabber you should see the following when you open the Connection Status window (Help > Show connection status):

CUPC 8.6.1 Video Call In Deskphone mode

Hi,
We have Presence Server 8.5 and CUCM 8.0 in network.
CUPC 8.6.1 is installed on user laptop and CIsco 7942 phone is configured for user. User laptop also has camera.
User is able to make video calls using CUPC in softphone mode.
However user is unable to make video call using CUPC in deskphone mode. The video call option on CUPC in deskphone mode remains grey and cannot be selected. What can be reason for this?
Please help to resolve this issue.

In CUPC server health it is showing error in Video Desk phone - as CDP uable to detect IP Phone.
However my phone is directly connected to laptop.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

New iPad 4G internet access lost during Skype video calls, also to all apps...

i have the New (3rd generation) iPad 4G 32 Gb and i noticed that i totally lost internet connection during Skype video calls. The wifi signal is full but loosing the internet connection. Trying other apps like safari after the failure i don't have also internet access. After turninmg off & on afain wifi from iPad's settings everything returns to normal state.
No other wifi problems when not using Skype for iPad, no problems with Facetime or any other application, no problem with any other device, i also have an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS without any connection or internet problems.
Any idea? Is it a Skype problem, or iPad's know wifi problem?

Wifi signal is full, but loosing internet connection.
Any idea please ? Have to return it back for repair ? It's only 2 weeks old....

Problem in my MacBook Pro Video Calling in Facebook

I have problem when trying to start video calling in facebook, it always says "The video calling software encountered an error while starting."
and it's very annoying because I can't use video call on facebook.

In the Finder, go to your Home directory which is labeled with a house icon and your username.
Open the Library folder.
Open the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
Delete the FacebookVideoCalling.bundle file.
When I tried to look for the said file, it is not inside the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
Is there any problem with my mac? I am using MacBook Pro mid 2012, 10.8.3
