Video Camera Issue

While chatting with friends today, I took them on a 'Skype Tour' of our new home. As we went from room to room the images in the video screen were exceptional and the friends had no difficulty viewing what we showed them.
We then went outside into the garden - at this point the video screen image as good as whitened out and they could only occasionally see part of what we were showing them.  My gut reaction was that the sky was too bright and that was causing a glare which in turn obscured the camera lens or what was seen through it... EXCEPT it was an overcast day and the indoor lighting was actually brighter than it was outside. Further to this, this evening I switched on the flashlight app on my cell and aimed it directly at the webcam but it only impacted that area of the image where the flashlight was shining and I could see around it no problem at all.
So I have read other posts about adjusting the Video Capture Filter Options to compensate for darkness - but can anyone tell me what the Video Proc Amp settings should be for outside use i.e. Brightness, Contrast, Hue etc. OR if it is none of these things - any other tips for using the webcam outdoors.
The webcam drivers (by Microsoft) are up to date (never been improved!) since the manufacturers install. I am using Windows 7 on a Gateway NV53.

Yes, I have the same issue. The HD recording looks kinda crappy. If I cover the camera completely, I can see a faint red haze when there screen should be solid black. This is the same in the camera app. I wonder if that is part of the issue. The camera quality is also down since the small update they pushed out. I have dead pixels that show up in the pictures, but when I use Camera 360, there are no dead pixels, and the red haze does not appear as bad, but it still seems like it flickers in and out. Camera 360 takes a far better picture, so I have been using that program. So What I would like to know, is this a hardware issue, or a software issue.

    I have been having some major issues when using my video camera.  If I record anything over 1 minute it locks my phone into the program, continues recording (even thought I've pressed stop), and doesn't save my video (come back as corrupt when I go to play it).  In order to get out of the program, I have to restart my phone (which is where the corruption happens, i'm sure).  Anybody else having this issue?  Verizon, how can we fix this?  I'm missing lots of great opportunities of capturing memories.

    After purchasing a JVC Everio HD camcorder, I found out that hard way, that getting a hard drive camcorder to work with a Mac is not as easy as it sounds.
    With that said, I want to find options that will make shooting, transferring, and editing video on my (mid 2011) Macbook Pro, as easy as possible.
    I know that there are different converters out there, but from what I have read, they are time consuming and many times still don't help you accomplish what you are trying do. 
    What types of camcorders should I be looking for?  I know there are many professional style cameras that will accomplish what I am looking to do, but they almost always start at about $1000 and go up from there.  Some people have suggested that I buy a SVR camera because they all shoot video as well, but now I am concerned that I will run into the same transferring issues with a $700 SVR camera that will have run into with a $300 HD camcorder.
    Any help that is given will be greatly appreciated.  My wife is due to have our first child any day now and this video camera issue was unexpected and has suddenly become an unneeded point of stress.  Oh, on a side note, I went to an Apple store yesterday and they gave me two suggestions. 
    1) Use an iPhone.
    2) Come on these forums and ask...which is what I did. 
    That was the best they could do, as they weren't really familiar with this problem.

    You can only sync with one iTunes library. If you sync with another one the iPod will be erased and its contents replaced with what is in the library of the second computer.
    However, you can manage music among multiple computers. See:

    I have upgraded to iOS5 on my 1 year-old iphone4.  I have a problem with the video camera function - it doesnt work anymore when accesed from the camera app icon:
    When I tap on the camera app icon I can access the camera screen.  On the camera screen, when the slider above the red button is set to the camera icon, both the red button and the volume-up button activate the shutter and a photograph is taken.  However, when the slider is set to the camera icon, the screen freezes when either the red button or volume-up button is pressed to start recording.
    However, when the phone is locked and the home button is pressed twice to access the camera screen, both the still-camera and the video-camera function normally using either the red button or the volume-up button,
    This has all the appearence of and seems to me as though it is a bug in the iOS5 software
    has anyone else observed this problem with the video-camera function?
    Can Apple offer advice on how (and when) this will be fixed please?

    I have noticed that the camera has seemed slower on the iOS 5 updates. I usually just shut it off then turn it back on and use the quick camera as opposed to exiting the app I'm on and going to the home screen and opening it up.

    Hi, everytime I connect my video cam, my system will crash and I get a blue screen stating that there is a problem caused by ativvaxx.dll. Any of you guys know how to fix this? I've got a Satellite A100 system, it's new. Any help is highly appreciated.

  • Video/Camera light not working after upgrade to 975

    Hi,
    After I upgraded to the latest OS release from Verizon (v5.0.0.975) on my Tour, the light for both my video recorder or camera no longer work. I have done battery pulls and checked the options for each (both set to ON).
    I tried searching here first, but didn't find anything. However, a Google search shows posts on other forums about this issue.
    I contacted Verizon Support and the person was not able to help. She asked me to go into Options for my video camera and apparently some of the settings have also been removed. So, I asked her to please report this to RIM Support. She mentioned downgrading my OS, which I had already considered. But, since this OS seems stable and I don't use my cameras that much, I'll ride it out for now.
    If anyone else is having the same problem, I would encourage you to contact your carriers support and report this. Hopefully RIM will have a fix for this available soon.

  • MacBook Air 2013 with Mavericks 10.9.1 has Facetime HD Camera issues

    Hi, I've been using a new 2013 MacBook Air with 10.9.1 for the last 3 weeks (I used to have a 2010 Macbook Pro 15 with Mavericks) and the Facetime HD camera is having issues being detected by different applications.
    In my case I mainly use Google Hangouts, Skype, and sometimes Facetime. The problem lies on that the camera sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.
    I usually reboot the camera with 'sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant' and that makes it work, but it shouldn't be like that.
    Please note that this was not happening with my 2010 MacBook Pro with Mavericks. I changed to this new 2013 MacBook Air only 3 weeks ago. Nevertheless, people that I work with (who use retina macbooks with Mavericks) are not having this issue.
    Last week I had to install a plugin (in chrome) for a new online site similar to Hangouts called BlueJeans. Bluejeans very seldomly recognizes the cam, only when I reboot it with the 'line' above or reboot the machine. The people I work with didn't have any issues, so I suspect this has to do with 2013 MacBook Air's Facetime HD cameras which might be different to the rest, or too new on the market.
    It's as if when I start using it in Hangouts and then hang, later it might not work in Skype, or viceversa.
    If you can help, that'll be great, and I appreciate it. Nevertheless, I feel Apple must take care of this in the next Mavericks update (many people are having camera issues).

    On my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 I Had a problem with my video on skype, facetime, photoboot....
    I have tried all the solution offered in every forum and never got to a satisfying result. I downgraded to mountain lion from mavericK without result. I reseted the Pram or SMC (I forgot), and other things, I played with the plugin /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/, I tried several version of skype.... NONE of this solution worked....
    Until that day a friend came to my place and installed AppleJack for Mac, a free software (http://download.cnet.com/AppleJack/3000-2094_4-40293.html) that totally solved this issue amongst others...

    Restart your computer. After you hear the startup chime, press and hold down the
      Cmd and s keys together (this will put you in single user mode). You should soon get a Terminal-type screen with a dramatic garble of indecipherable messages and a shell prompt that looks something like [root#]
    2. Now, type applejack at the prompt. (If you’ve installed applejack manually, or have not created an alias to applejack for the root user, you may have to enter the full path to the script at the prompt.) You will be guided through a series of steps that will repair your drive and delete possibly corrupted files. Options are selected by typing the number corresponding to the task you want to perform, and then hitting the return key. For example, when you see a few different options, like this:
    [1] Option One [2] Do something else [3] Another task [4] A useful task
    From time to time, in interactive mode, you will be asked to answer yes or no to a question. To answer yes, type y and hit the return key. To answer no, type n and hit the return key.
    An advantage of using the interactive mode instead of auto mode is that you are given options for also cleaning out user-level caches and preference files. If you would like to clean out your main admin user caches, for example, you will need to use interactive mode.
    3. Auto mode: If you want to leave
      applejack to do it’s own thing, just choose option [a] when the script starts. You can also start right up in auto mode by typing: applejack auto at the prompt. applejack will run through all the basic cleanup tasks in order. Alternatively, you can also type applejack auto restart which will tell applejack to do the cleanup tasks and then automatically restart your computer. Other options are: applejack auto shutdown which tells AppleJack to shut down the computer after running its tasks, or applejack AUTO shutdown which tells AppleJack to run automatically in "deep cleaning" mode (see above) and then shut down.
    I hope this helps. It completely solved my issue.

    nothing wrong with it. I know that Connect is not software based it
    is an Internet Application. How ever i know that the OS (vista)
    "sees" the camera because it works with other programs. Sorry i am
    connecting with IEEE not USB
    Has anyone out there in the world has success with getting a
    video camera using IEEE connection to work fully. Audio and Video
    coming through the camera?
    Is anyon aware of drivers for either the camera or the IEEE?
    And if the Connect product does not support this... WTF?

    Connect does work with IEEE1394 Firewire Cams, just not with
    all Firewire Cams. (USB cams also are not all working).
    I would suggest to first try out the cam from different
    machines with different OSs (Vista might well be the sole issue
    here), also try if you can get an ordinary USB cam to work.
    If all fails, you can workaround that using a virtual camera
    driver, piping the firewire cam into the virtual cam and in Connect
    you can load the virtual cam with the image of the Firewire cam.
    Not a nice way round, but it would work.
    If you google for "Adobe Connect camera compatibility matrix"
    you get a "slightly" outdated list of supported cameras.

  • What is best type of 'new' video camera to buy for editing with PE 10?

    I currently own two Sony miniDV camcorders (models DCR-HC28 and HC40) and was doing fine in Premiere Elements and recently upgraded to version 10. I was in the process of using the HC40 cam as a 'pass-through' device to digitize some old VHS tapes, and it worked well for copying from VHS to miniDV tape. Then, I could capture in Premiere Elements and edit, etc. (It would never work to pass all the way through to capture in PE in one step using Firewire).  Now, the HC40 camera has locked up on me halfway through my box of VHS tapes, and is stuck showing the Time/Date screen and the touch screen seems to be disabled.  What to do?
    There do exist plenty of used DCR-HC40 and 52s (which also support pass-through) on Amazon for sale in the $200 range, and that is one option.  I also went to Best Buys this week and looked at all the new Sony video cameras, and they fell into basically two series:  the DCR-SX series, which record in standard definition onto flash memory (SD cards), and the more expensive HDR-CX series, which record in Hi Definition (also on SD cards) but also, I was told, can record in standard definition.  The miniDV camcorders are no more, apparently.  I am not so enamored of HD recording that I would go whole hog for it, as I am happy with the results I have been getting with my miniDV cameras once burned to DVD or converted to MPEG or MP4 for playing on my iPhone, etc. Plus, HD takes up so much more memory and space on the hard drive compared to standard def files.
    I called Sony tech services today to find out that none of the new cameras support the pass-through function for digitizing from old VHS cassettes, so I am looking at buying a VHS-digitizing device as recommended here on the forum such as the ADS Pyro AV Link or Grass Valley ADVC110.  Since I would rather spend that money on a new video camera instead of merely the AV link device which I will have no use for once the tapes are digitized, my question comes back to the cameras. Which of the new cameras will be most ideal for editing in PE10 going forward, or is it best to stick with miniDV for now?  
    Steve G has always seemed to point out that miniDV tape and the ensuing AVI files are the best for PE to work with.  Sony told me today that even the SD cameras such as the DCR-SX65SD ($219) now record onto the SD cards in MPEG2 format, and that AVI is a thing of the past that died with the miniDV tapes.  I assume MPEG2 still comes out as different clips that one assembles on the Timeline in PE10?  One probably could convert the MPEG2 files to AVI, but would that give the same quality as an original AVI file from a miniDV tape? And if MPEG2 is the new standard going forward, do the resulting videos made with PE10 have the same quality as those made from 'native' AVI files?  I will buy a used DCR-HC40 miniDV camera if the end result is better than those to be obtained with the brand new DCR or HDR series cameras now available in stores.  But if the quality is the same, I could perhaps opt for one such as the HDR-CX 130HD ($349) which also records in SD in case some years from now I decide I really DO want to switch to HD formats.
    Any advice on choice/use of the newer cameras and their default formats such as MPEG2 is welcome, in relation to PE10 editing and output capabilities.

    Thanks much for your replies.  I plan to get my DCR-HC40 miniDV camera fixed so I can use it for pass-through digitizing from VHS tapes.  I also recently bought one of the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum capture units ($84 at Best Buys) just to try it, and actually got pretty good results in digitizing a VHS-C tape using a VHS-C to VHS adapter unit to play it in our VCR, and then using the Pinnacle Studio HD (version 15) that came with the Dazzle unit to import and digitize through the Dazzle unit.
    The Dazzle unit would not show up in Premiere Elements 10 as an option to capture from, but did in Pinnacle Studio 15.   I used our Sony VAIO with i7 processor and Pinnacle captured the one hour, twenty-five minute- long VHS-C tape to a single 18GB .AVI  clip which I then was able to bring into Premiere Elements 10 and use for output in various formats. 
    When using a less powerful laptop initially, the digitizing failed, with 319 dropped frames in the first 5 minutes.. So it takes a more powerful computer to work with a capture unit like Dazzle, apparently.
    I will eventually be shopping around for a new,  AVCHD format video camera as well based on your recommendations, but the current group of Sonys in this category, such as the HDR-CX130HD ($349) which record video onto SD cards, are getting bad reviews from CNET, claiming they have poor quality HD and other issues.  So for the forseeable future I will be sticking with miniDV using my Sony DCR-HC28 and HC40 camcorders.

    Hello, guys! I have a bit of an issue with the new video message feature of Skype. That is, the option to send a video message is grayed out on every contact I have on Skype, but my friends can send me video messages and I can view them without any problems.
    Skype version: 6.21.59.104 (searching for updates yields me that I have the latest version of Skype)
    Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (100% legal)
    Camera: Turbo-X 1080P Full HD with built-in microphone (functions perfectly during video calls)
    Internet Speed: Average of 100Mbps if I remember correctly. Fairly fast and functional 100% of the time (I don't know if it is relevant)
    Note: I have no Facebook or Live contacts on my contact list. I do not log in as Invisible. Some of my friends do, but the option is grayed out for everyone, not just those that are Invisible. The only personal modification I have done for Skype is to block the advertisments by blocking access to apps.skype.com through my Control Panel.

    Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
