Video Cameras  What should I buy Panasonic or Sony?

I am looking to upgrade to a new camcorder from a Panasonic TM700 to either a Panasonic HC-X900M or a Sony HDRPJ760VE.
The reason for the upgrade is because my TM700 will no longer switch off, making it necessary for me to detach the battery after each time I use the camera.
I am extremely happy with the video quality of the cam. but have had other problems with this camera.
If you own one of the above can you please give me your feedback?
I really like the Optical stabilizer in the Sony, but what is the video quality like?
I do hope this is the correct forum for this discussion.

It does not help you solve your dilemma, but let me tell you some of my experiences with service from various companies.
I have used many Sony cameras over the years, a TRV-50, a VX-2000, a PD-150 and a Z1. Even though they were generally reliable, there were some minor problems with every camera, like the accessory shoe getting loose, the mic holder getting loose, the tape transport needed cleaning, simple stuff like that, but Sony was always very expensive and took their time. At least 6 weeks turn-around time. So I looked elsewhere and found an ex-Sony employee, who was a worldwide acclaimed Sony Certified Expert Service Professional and had the papers to support it (he got this title at Sony HQ in Tokio), who started his own service repair shop. His turn around time was usually less than a day, you made an appointment, went to his shop, got a very warm welcome and a cup of coffee, while he investigated the problem, explaining every step as he went along and watching him do his work. After everything was repaired, the bill was always a nice surprise and the duration of the repair was always very short. If a new part was required, he had direct access to the European supply center in Belgium, so instead of ordering through Sony Netherlands, he got the parts much faster. I went to him even if I had no problems periodically for a yearly check-up of my equipment, like you do with your car.
He not only serviced Sony, but also Canon, Panasonic, JVC, Ikegami, etc. and had among his clients several broadcast companies.
I'm pretty sure there must be people like this guy in Australia as well but you may have to rely on other Aussies to give you a hint here.
I have a Canon XF300 now, bought in New Zealand (Global Media Pro) and shipped from Hong Kong that developed problems with the EVF, a rather common problem with the XF range. I contacted Canon Europe, the camera was picked up by courier, repaired and returned within 10 days, all under warranty. So, obviously Canon is more lenient than Panasonic in their service, but maybe that also has to do with the positioning of the XF range of cameras.
I hope you get some hints on who might be able to help you out locally.

I have an older powerbook and an older powerMac both running 10.4. I want to use iChat, but don't want to spend the $150-200 on eBay for an iSight camera. What is a good camera to buy that will be easily compatible and produce a good picture (good FPS, etc.)?

Hello, I am contemplating buying a video camera, used. Its a PANASONIC DVC PRO AJ– D 200 BROADCAST QUALITY CAMCORDER.
I see it uses S-video 4-pin x 1, to transfer from the tape. I do not know if I can do this with my intel imac. Would I need a special cable?
    I have no clue. thanks

  • HELP! I need some help from true Mac fans! What should I buy???

So, I'm moving to Japan, which has a couple of implications (other than the fact that my wife's parents and my parents are looking for any legal recourse to stop us from taking their only grandchild out of the country). More importantly however, I have had to sell my B&O TV and music system (different signals from the UK where we now live). I also decided to sell our stereo (or rather my wife decided it was too bulky so as long as it was not in the living room or bedroom I could keep it...). Finally, I need a new laptop for personal use. I have some friends that are absolute mac fans, who have convinced me to go over to the other side (i.e. yours).
The opportunity I now have is to create a complete system as I need a laptop, something to play my music, a TV, etc. Given I am starting from a clean sheet I was hoping somebody out there could help me 'design' a complete set-up. My wife and I are keen photographers (both photography and video), we like listening to music, and watching movies (we definitely need a region-free DVD player), so what should we buy?
Any input would be hugely appreciated.

OSX also supports IME right out of the box.

It sets up pretty well, too; I like it more than Mircrosoft's implementation (language bar).
Only thing to keep in mind is where you buy the MacBook; if you get it in Japan you'll get a Japanese keyboard, which displays most of the kana alongside the keys. You also get the conversion and switch keys on the keyboard itself, which is great.
The MacBook Power Unit is multi-voltage, so no matter where you pick it up the worst you need is a plug adapter; although getting one from apple would be best. Just don't think you need to buy a new power unit, only the plug and cable.

You need a newer 2011 or later iMac to use Airplay.
    Sorry.
For older Mac, look at an app called AirParrot

You can only return the machine if you're within 14 days of purchase - otherwise you're just 'stuck' with what you purchased (unless you sell it, of course).
I always recommend that Retina owners order 16GB of RAM as the RAM is not upgradable - it's soldered onto the logic board.
Your call - if you're with 14 days of purchase, take it back and exchange for a 16GB model. Or sell it and buy a model with 16GB. The higher amount of memory will allow you to run far more memory-hungry apps concurrently.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then see if this user tip helps : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then try Apple ID Account Security

  • What should I buy with a Macbook Air?

I am looking at buying a 11in Macbook Air and I would like to know what should I buy with it?
    What accesories do you reccomend?
And for time capsule what size hard drive do you reccomend?

I am pretty sure you meant Time Machine instead of Time Capsule. For external HD's almost any external HD would be adequate. The only brand I'm not a big fan of are WD's external drives although some posters have a lot of luck with them. Personally I like:
    G-Tech G-DRIVE series
    LaCie d2 Quadra series
    OWC Mercury Elite Pro series
for their build quality and features. Personally I use 4 of the LaCie's but any of the others would be welcome on my desk too. If you are interested I noticed Lacie had teh 1TB available today as a refurbished model for less than $100, a great buy! The URL is:
    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/clearance/products/?id=10007
When I checked earlier they had 45, as of this writing they have 14 so they're selling quickly.

  • How do i hook a wired router to a wired router and what should I buy?

I want to maintain a PC on a wired network near my cable modem and add a wireless accees point or router remotely to cover an area outdoors.
Application isn't fancy, just plain vanilla internet access. Ease of setup, reasonable cost, reliable connections and security are the goals.
What should I buy for each component and how do I set the network up?
    Thank you!

Instead of an Access Point you could also go for a strong N- draft router(like WRT310N, WRT320N. WRT350N, WRT400N) as you want to place a wireless device about 100' away to cover outside(all the above router's should give you more than 100' feet of range)...Also you will get additional 4 ethernet ports to connect 4 devices hardwired to the router...
You should connect your existing router from Ethernet port 1 to the new router on it's Internet Port...Access the new router's  web interface and change it's LAN IP Address to 10.10.10.1 and Power cyle the new router, it should be configured...

  • I need to buy a new hard drive for my MacBook Pro. What should I buy?

Should I buy a 2TB SATA Hard Disk Drive Kit for Mac Pro? Or is this just a kit and not the drive?

Or is this just a kit and not the drive?
I'm not sure what you mean by that, but the nature of your question implies that you should shop for one from a company well known to support Macs, can help you decide what you need, how to install it, and provide free technical support should you require it. OWC / MacSales can do all that and their prices are as good as any you are likely to find from anyone else.

  • What should I buy my 9 & 7 year old children??

My boys want something they can download games and music on...what device should I buy them, without spending a lot of money? Some people have mentioned the ipad touch, some have mentioned a "pad or tablet"...what are the benefits and drawbacks of the device your recommending? Are there extra or monthly charges/fees to own this device? Please, I would really appreciate any advise you may have for me!!
    Thank you!!

If you feel she's responsible enough for one, go for it. Just be sure to set up restrictions on the device to prevent any unwanted activity. Get a case for it. Also let her know that the device is not a toy...dropping it will likely damage it, even if it's in a case. Supervision is the key. It shouldn't be provided to her as a "babysitting" crutch.
