Video Capture - How to Shut off the Internal Camera on a MAC?

Have MAC CS4...BUT im a PC GUY!!
Need help with capture. I have a MAC BOOK Laptop OSX-10 and when I try to capture from the firewire attached sony camera I get the built in laptop camera instead of the Sony Camera. I have tried different standard and alternate an sony camnera settings. I CAN take control of the camera (play + rew etc)...but I cant get the video to override the built in laptop camera.
Is there some setting I need to disable to get the laptop camera go away?
Thanks for your help

  • Does anyone know how to switch off the internal wifi test use a wifi dongle at a usb input?

    HI
I am having problems connecting to wifi with a new Mac.
I have tried all kinds of things like shifting and monitoring my router's channel.
Short of using a power cube or crawling under the house and running a cable I have decided perhaps to use a Netgear wifi dongle.
I would like to switch off the internal wifi and allow the external device to connect.
With a new machine I really don't see why I have to do this.
Incidentally all my old devices have no problems with the wifi signal.
    Cheers
    Jack

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Yes I have done all that was suggested on that site.
i have also been in contact with Apple Care.
I have also reset the router firmware.
I downloaded a piece of software called inSSIDer and checked out other wifi channels in the area. I moved my preferred channel to another ones that looked better however that is back on auto now and the router seems to be picking up channel 6 which is the best one and scores the most points.
I use a netgear wifi dongle on my 'smart' tv and was thinking of using that however I am beginning to thisk that 'powerline' products may be the answer.
The Mac is only two weeks old and I seem to be messing about with the wifi connection most of the time.
I actually cleaned the whole disk and reinstalled the operating system earlier this week.
    Desperate or what!
Sometimes I think I should just return it but I like to solve problems and will keep going for a while before I lose patience.

  • Can you please tell me how to shut off the plug-in update checker?

I like to check plug-in updates from time to time on my own. The "plug-in update checker" that pops up simultaneously EVERYTIME I open Firefox is VERY annoying. Though I have tried, I can't figure out how to stop that from happening. It is so annoying that I have considered going back to using Internet Explorer which I do not like. Please help me disable, turn off, delete this feature. Thank you

You can go into your Audio Preferences and disable the UV bridge. There is also the option in the drop down menu next to the speaker icon that allows you to mute just the telephone audio. This would make it so just the VoIP audio is heard, but I believe the telephone audio is still recorded.
This sounds like you either need to disconnect the phone from your room or call into the phone bridge as a host/leader. Ultimately this is a function of your phone bridge, not Connect.

  • Does anyone know how to shut off the automatic connection to Facebook when using Safari?

New to the Mac world and I'm still finding my way around the OS.    Also is there any way to make the Mail client delete from older messages rather then newer ones?    Every other Mail client I have used does it different.

You have set Safari's home page as Facebook.  Just go to Safari Preferences>General, and set the home page.
If you have other questions about Safari, please go to the Safari forum as this is the MacBook Pro hardware forum.
I'm not clear on what your asking with regards to Mail.  Again, you might want to take your question to the OS X 7 Mail forum, so that you have a quicker answer to your question.

  • New iMac: how can I get the internal mic to turn off?

I always have Facetime cameras and internal mics disabled for privacy. Cameras are easy to block, but the Sound pane doesn't allow me to disable the mic, only turn the input down to the bottom. Supposedly, its off, right?
Poking around in Prefs, I saw that my supposedly "disabled" microphone showed a response in the Dictation & Speech pane VU meter when I would snap my fingers around the bezel. Even worse, it showed a response to conversation in another room, the refrigerator starting up in the kitchen 25 feet away, and even an increase in ambient noise. Going back to the Sound prefs, the mic input is still turned "down" and doesn't show a response when I snap my fingers.
So... how is it that this supposedly defeated mic is working normally, and in fact exceeding expectations, despite being effectively turned "off" in the Sound pane?
Basically, this iMac is a very expensive bug sitting on my desk. Is there a way to properly disable the mic in the system? I can't even find the thing to block it physically, like with bezel cameras. There is no place for an external mic to plug in either, which would physically bypass any internal mic on my previous Macs.

Interested parties may want to know...
I went to the Apple Store two weeks ago for a replacement Airport Express. While I was waiting for it, I struck up a conversation with one of the store staff, and brought up the mic issue. We spent a good ten minutes going through the few ways of securing the mic, and we determined that every iMac made has the ability to continue listening evne though dictation is shut off. Unlike old Macs, you can't disable the mic in the Sound prefs. You can't turn off listening in the Dictation prefs - even though turning off "dictation" means the dictation part of the OS stops listening. The only way to definintely shut off the "listening" part is to keep the Audio Devices panel open, select Built-in Microphone, and make sure the master mute button is checked. Also, you have to leave the Dictation & Speech pane open in Preferences to watch the mic display.
Even so, going to any other preference panel and then back to Dictation & Speech means that the master mute will uncheck itelf and the mic goes back to listening mode.
The staff member was quite frustrated by this and said it appears the only way to stop the iMac from listening with any certainty would be to block the mic, just like millions of users block the Facetime camera with a piece of tape.
I suppose I should admit defeat at this point, and maybe I should have long ago recognized that no matter what the system tells us, we shouldn't trust it. Simply clicking on a radio button to disable what in all actuality is really a room bug shouldn't have us letting out a sigh of relief and saying "Wow I'm glad I was able to stop that security issue by trusting the machine to let me know when it was listening."
In another year my Apple Care will run out. Then I'm going to take this iMac to my local authorized service center to have a hybrid drive installed and the internal memory maxed out. While they're in there, I'll have the mic physically removed.

every time I go to a new site a bar is lowered and ask to update my plugin. I am using mac 10.4.11 G4 The new plugin will not work. How do I shut off the plugin update so I don't get this anoying bar ever time I go to a new web page. If there is no way to shut it off, I'll trash Firefox and go back to Safari. This just started and I'm tired of it.

to turn off the messages about outdated plugins, enter "about:config" into the address bar of the browser, confirm the info dialog, then search for the preference named "plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin" & double-click it in order to toggle it to "true".
please also note that firefox 3.6.28 was the last build that ran on a powerpc, however if you want to use an up-to-date browser based on firefox you can switch to "tenfourfox" - the downside is it doesn't support plugins at all
[[Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors]]

I need to know how to stop a notification that keeps coming up when playing a spades game, that keeps telling me to go to the game center. I even shut off the notifications in the settings, this is an anoying problem

I'm pretty sure this is an Apple thing and you can't do anything about it. To get rid of the notification just do as it asks then try to forget about it.

How do I shut off the lock screen feature on my iPhone 5s?

You can turn Auto-Lock off and you can choose not to have the Passcode Lock feature enabled, but there will always "slide to unlock" available after manually turning the iPhone's screen off with the sleep/wake button or with Auto-Lock enabled without having the Passcode Lock feature enabled.
This is to prevent anything from being selected on the iPhone after the screen has been turned off or or placing the iPhone in sleep mode if the iPhone were in your pocket and the home button or sleep/wake button was selected without your knowledge.

Instead of Ignore, you must have touched the button for Message. That will send a message from the phone, depending on what you have set. Check the User Guide for a better explanation. http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
