Video capture?  shouldnt the cable come with?

Hey,
I want to do some video capturing with my MacPro. I have final cut express that i bought with the computer.
My main thing is that I want to get video off of old micro vhs cassettes. So I only have a vhs machine to play them back. Which only has the analog red-white-yellow plugins in the back. So what can I get to connect the 2 devices? Is there something made by mac that is plug and play? Or am I better to go with something from Best Buy?
I dont want to spend 299 on the Apple wire. Icant see spending 300 bucks on what basically amounts to a firewire cord just cause its got an apple logo on it....

Two options, one cheaper than the otehr, and dpends on what you'd like to have at the end of it:
1. Most DV cameras will do analog to digital conversion using the audio in/out plug and a firewire cable to capture video as it is played into the DV camera. A used Canon (even a new one) should be cheap. I use a Canon ZR-40 as a deck and leave it connected all the time. This is often referred to as "pass-through".
2. The EYE TV 250. It, with the included software, makes your mac a DVR. It has a cable set included for recording composite video in and L/R audio and connects to the mac with USB 2.0. It records whatever you input plus it tunes cable TV and records that. Loads of fun. Exports to MP4 for iPod and the new software integrates with Tivo. http://www.elgato.com
If you have no video making aspersions go with EYE TV 250.
A/D boxes, e.g. Canopus do work (at times, grudgingly) but that's all you get and either choice above may cost less and give you extra things out of your hard earned $.

  • How do I find the lookup history in the dictionary come with OSX 10.6?

I have spent couple of days to find out how to get the lookup history in the dictionary but with no luck.
The dictionary come with the OS X is brilliant. For the purpose of review the words I have lookup before, I guess there must be a way to check the history, as every time when u put the '<' button on the application, u will be able to find the words u searched recently. I wonder where the app keeps those information, so I can copy them out to a list.
    Thanks a lot!

For all the machines that are the same, set one up the way you want and use Firewire cable between two iMac's.
Hold T boot the second iMac into Firewire Traget Disk Mode, it's boot drive appears on the desktop of the first iMac.
Next install Carbon Copy Cloner on the first iMac, talk with them about a volume license as your going to need it.
Use the default CCC setting and CCC the first iMac to the second iMac's boot drive. All accounts, programs and data on the second iMac will be erased for what's on the first iMac.
Now take those two iMac's and CCC to 2 more iMac's, then those 4 to 4 others, and that 8 to 8 others and so forth. Should be done in a day.
On each machine your going to have to setup a different named account for each machine if they are going to be networked, the process above is for main Admin user, programs and OS X transfer.
This method only works via the exact same model/year of Mac's, won't work if they are different, for that you setup a new one and clone that to similar machines of the model/year.
If your uncertain, look under Apple menu about this Mac > more info for a model like "iMac 4,1" for instance.
    Good Luck

    Hi Bander Bunny!
I have a couple of articles that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes first. This has to be done in a specific manner, and this article can help you do that:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Another option is that you may want to try syncing your iPod nano manually. Here's is an article that pertains to manually managing the content of your iPod nano:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
It's also possible that this issue resides with your iPod nano. Here is a website that will help you troubleshoot the iPod nano:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Doe's the mac come with windows 7?

Does the MAC come with windows 7?

No. You can run Windows on a Mac in several different ways, but all require that you purchase Windows separately. Apple only supplies the Windows drivers needed to integrate with the Apple hardware.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Probably a stupid question . . . does the iPad come with iTunes preinstalled?

I'm in need ot a portable way to listen to podcasts and type some notes. Due to low vision I cannot use an ipod or iphone.  I have an imac at home.  Does the ipad come with itunes preinstalled, or would I haave to buy it separately.  I know I'd have to purchase another copy if pages, which I have on my imac.

Yes - but the iTunes that comes installed on the iPad is the iTunes Store where you purchase your media. The iPad comes with a preinstalled iPod App and that is where your music library resides and plays on the iPad - not in iTunes.
You don't have to buy either apps for the iPad.

    1. Turn the router, iPad and printer off.
    2. Turn on the router and then wait 30 seconds to let it complete its start-up process.

  • The ANT comes with JDev 9.0.4 - is that for development build?

The ANT comes with JDev, is it the latest version? Do I need to download latest and from somewhere and how do I integrate ANT with JDeveloper? Would it be just for the development build? If I integrate ANT with JDev, that wouldn't bge for release or production build - would it? In that case, I need to install ANT externally!

Apache has released several versions of Ant since JDeveloper 9.0.4 was released. I believe the version of Ant that shipped with JDeveloper 9.0.4 was Ant 1.5.1 (you can always verify the Ant version by using the echo task to print out the "${ant.version}" property).
If you want to upgrade to the lastest version (currently, Ant 1.6.1), see the thread "New ant version" in this forum. We will also be shipping the latest release of Ant with future releases of JDeveloper.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the Ant integration being for the development build versus release build. You can choose to configure Ant to be the default build mechanism for your JDeveloper project, in which case it will be used for all builds. Or you can simply open your buildfile in the project, and right click on it to run specific targets. In the latter case, the Ant integration would only be for specific builds.
    Hope that answers your questions.

  • I am going to japan with an Ipod nano and Iphone 4. Do I need a converter? or does the one the iphone comes with that plugs into the wall enough?

I am going to japan with an Ipod nano and Iphone 4. Do I need a converter? or does the one the iphone comes with that plugs into the wall enough? I know i wont need an adapter because it will fit into the wall outlet, but voltage wise, will i need a converter? Japan runs on 100 V. I am so confused on all of this...

As long as the adapter is 2 pronged, then you should be able to use it without any problems.

  • Does the iPad come with a built-in dictionary?

Does the iPad come with a built-in dictionary? I sure can't find it! I like the built-in dictionary on my iMac. Why does not the iPad have one?

So, the iMac dictionary also give us translation, because we have activated a second language in System Preferences...there is apparently no way to get this function with built in Apple apps on the iPad, I assume, from your reply...
    Thank you!
