  • Video Card overheating issue

I'm having issues with my intel based iMac. Whenever I play World of Warcraft, I am having overheating issues with my video card. I get weird graphical errata, slowdown, freezing, and system crashes because of it. I have tried capping the fps through console command, downloaded an application to raise the minimum RPMs on my fans, and set up a boxfan behind my iMac.
Where are the air-intakes on the 24" iMac? I would like to try using a can of compressed air, in case it is clogged by dust or lint.
What further steps can I take if that doesn't work? If I take it to my nearest AASP, can it still be repaired under warranty, assuming it's a hardware issue?
intel iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.16 GHz intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 667MHz Bus Speed, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Run the hardware test that came with your machine:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
If nothing is detected, it is likely your problem is the RAM.
If something is detected, take it to the AASP and have them repair what is detected.
If the program you are using is PowerPC based, upgrade it to an Intel based program. That may solve the problem.

  • HP ProBook 4520s Video Card Drivers issue

I've installed OpenSuse 11.4 on my ProBook 4520s but cannot install the ATI video card drivers downloaded from HP website because they have issues (the details are below). The same problem occurred when I was trying SLED 11.
Any help in resolving it is much appreciated.

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition Nvidia Video card crash

So I've updated my Nvidia driver to the latest version, but whenever I open a game the graphic starts to lag and then freeze... I also hear weird motor sounds in my headphones while this lags.... I tried to downgrade the Nvidia driver to the one which my model of MSI recommends: I tried both Beta and WHQL Nvidia drivers my model of MSI recommends but that didn't help either. I also witnessed the crash of the Nvidia driver ( a notification appeared that Nvidia driver has stopped working ) which made me totally be sure that this lag and freeze problems aren't the problems of the game nor the the switching of Intel and Nvidia video cards, they switch good. This is the problem of Nvidia video driver, all the versions I tried kept crashing due to the same lags and freezes in any game I try, can anyone help me !?

Check the temps of your gpu with Afterburner (>>How to use MSI Afterburner<<). Try with and without Cooler Boost.

  • MSI R9 270x Gaming Video Card Flicker Issue

I bought one of these cards and keep getting this weird screen flicker. It is the same as this YouTube video but more frequent.
Is there any solution to this?

this looks like monitor issue, rather than video card issue

  • H8-1280t and GTX 780 Video Card installation issue.

I hope someone can give me good news with this issue as I am at the end of my rope.
I recently purchased an EVGA GTX 780 SC video card which I am attempting to install into my h8-1280t Elite HP Desktop.
I have switched out the stock Power Supply that originally came with the unit and installed one that can support the necessary power requirements of the card (750W with 61A on 12V rail [Corsair ATX 750).
This is actually the second card that I have tried and they both have the same issue.  The issue is as follows:  When the unit is powered on I can see the POST message which shows my processor, memory amount, and BIOS Revision date and version.  The unit will then proceed to beep once every 10 seconds, there will be a total of 3 beeps and the unit proceeds to a black screen where nothing happens.  I know the card is not bad as it displays the POST message just fine.
I have since contacted EVGA the manufacturer of the card and they have stated that this issue has something to do with UEFI BIOS.  Their card has shipped with the most recently updated UEFI BIOS located in the GTX 780, I was referred to try and ask here if there is an update to my current motherboard to bring it upto date with the latest revision of UEFI.  I have also since tried both BIOS updates on my model page the lastest having a revision date of 9-12-2012.  I would hate to think that my unit is incompatible being that I only bought it last year.  I have noticed that in my BIOS settings there is very limited UEFI boot options. so that gives me some hope.
The following is the information about my unit to the closes detail I have found:
    Motherboard: IPIWB-PB (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03132964)
    BIOS: 7.15 Rev. A (09-12-2012)
    Processor: Intel i7 3820 3.6ghz
    Desktop: h8-1280t (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5155...)
    Power Supply: Corsair ATX 750w
    Memory: Corsair 16gb Vengeance
Hard Drive and CD drive are stock.
I believe the issue lies with an outdated BIOS and hopefully HP is providing BIOS updates.
Once again any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Have you made sure that your P6 and P8 connectors are connected properly to the video card?
If you have, and your power supply is capable of running this card, then it is possibly not compatible with this motherboard. For the greatest chance of compatibility, since your motherboard has PCIe generation 2 slot you would want to look for a video card that uses PCIe generation 2.0. While 3.0 should be backwards compatible; it is not always the case.
    Thank you.

  • 2011 MBP video card crashes

Hey, Just got my new Macbook Pro around June, and already I am having problems with it
The first time it happened it was in Mac OS X (Snow Leopard), but I didn't really understand what had happened. All of a suddent my computer kind of just stopped, and then all of a sudden there was just a distorted glitchy screen. The only thing I could do was Hard Reset. T
The next time this happened, I was on my Windows 7 partition, watching a Youtube video, the screen went black, then came back. I got a small error message in the bottom right the my video card had encountered an error and had recovered. I thought to myself whatever no big deal, and I kept doing things on the computer. When I went back to watch the video (had to refresh the page because the entire video had gone green for some reason) the computer crashed the same way it did before. The exact same scenario has happened to me at least one other time.
The model of Macbook I have is the 15" 2.2 GHz i7, 750 GB HDD, and my video card is the AMD Radeon HD 6750
    Thanks in advance!

Check your fans, to make sure the GPU is staying cool.  I have an old 17" MBP from 2006 that draws glitchy lines on the screen if the GPU gets too hot.  I manually run the fans faster on that machine to keep it from happening all the time.  Usually it happens when I am doing anything with Flash.
You may have a dead fan or the wrong amount of thermal grease applied to it.  Without opening it up and checking its anybody's guess.  But you can use iStatPro to see what speed your fans are moving and to see the temp of your computer parts inside.  Its a free download.

  • Video card driver issue with K8T FSR

I put a new system togather yesterday. Here are the spcs.
    AMD64 2800+
    MSI K8T FSR (VIA chipset)
Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
    WD 120 mb drive
    Gainward fx5600xt 128MB
I installed Windows XP 32bit, VIA 4in1 drivers and directX 9. Most of the BIOS is set to safe performance (no overclocking). I then installed the latest nvidia drivers and rebooted. I see the Windows XP logo and then I get different colors on the screen. No display or colors only (no pattern). I rebooted in safe mode and uninstalled the drivers and the system booted fine. I then installed the driver I got with the card and same thing happened. Anyone experince this sort of behavior after installing video driver? Or does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix my problem. Any help is grealy appreciated.
    Thanks.

Try installing latest drivers from card manufacturers website. Before you do that, go ahead and install DirectX drivers first...then re-boot system and try to locate latest video card drivers. Or, let Widows find compatible drivers from it's source, and use those until you get your system running stable....then venture out on the web for your GPU's latest software....just some ideas.....

  • Video Card performance issue

    Hi,
I've notified a bug regarding the switch between the dedicated and integrated video card in my Mac. Assume that the Intel HD is used. Do CMD + SHIFT + 4 (this is the shortcut to make a screenshoot). The cursor is blinking when I move it. Do the same but assure that the dedicated video card is used: the cursor does not blinking. Do you have the same behavior ?
    Thanks.

If the MacBook's iPhoto Library hasn't been upgraded by v.11, yes. Do you still have the installer for iPhoto 09? If you do, then delete the iPhoto application, it's associated preference files and the upgraded Library. Install 09, move the Library from the MacBook and then launch iPhoto 09.

  • I'm running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6035 while running Firefox 4 Beta my video card crashes on a regular basis. Solved it by uninstalling Firefox 4 Beta and running Firefox 3.6. Update for a Firefox 4 Beta?

After installing Firefox 4 Beta my graphics card keept crashing on my laptop. After looking at the reliability report on the laptop i noticed that a key event that happend shortly before the video crashing began was that i installed Firefox 4 Beta. From this i uninstalled Firefox 4 Beta and went back to Firefox 3.6. My laptop has not had a video crash since then.

Thanks for your reply! Actually, yesterday I upgraded to the new kernel (version 3.4.3-1) and my laptop has not freezed since then. So, maybe I will wait for a couple of days and hopefully mark this as solved.

  • Any solutions to this video card crashing?

So, I've been having this issue for way too long honestly haha. Essentially this 1.5k laptop has turned into a facebook machine.
Every time I open an application it used to either wait a while, give me false hope, and then crash. The sounds starts to skip and the screen instantly goes black but you can still hear the hum of tha hard drive working.
Programs range from working in Adobe Photoshop to watching a Video on the internet or even in Quicktime. For some reason it works alright in VLC but thats another weird quirk. I've also had issues with pluging it into a HDMI display but I haven't done that in a while because I've had no need.
So every single crash report includes the same information everytime down below. Sometimes the "BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task" the last bit can be other stuff like 'World of Warcraft'
A while back it used to say Windows Server but I have already deleted that Windows Server .plist file in the ByHost folder and it actually let me open World of Warcraft and run around for a tad bit before crashing and giving the below error.
Have not tested this in Photoshop or Maya yet but I plan too.
I also have installed that one Firmware or which ever update that was meant to fix the problem or a similar problem.
And I unfortunately don't have the 3year warranty where they can just switch stuff out and maybe fix it.
Any other solutions out there or any suggestions? Anything would be super helpful! Thank you all!

Having the same problem except in Starcraft. Also my macbook pro has never hooked up to an external display properly, always thought it was the cord i used but now this has me thinking otherwise. I went to the Apple store today and the tech ran a few tests, or so he said. I then pointed him to TS4088 and he tried to run another test in the back and then came out saying that he couldn't get the program to run but that my model was not affected by that TS bulletin, BS i call. He said the only thing he could try would be to send it to Apple for a fee of $310! Absolutely ridiculous
Does anyone have any advice on our problem???

  • Switching video cards crashes to black screen

Owner of a MPB 6.2 from new, with an intel HD Graphics and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, intel Core i5. OSX 10.6.8
Initially I had the screen going black with a few pixel white line on the top left part of the screen during the hot months of the summer, and I though it was just a little glich due to temperatures and due to connecting or disconnecting the power supply. But in the last couple of days, it has happen everytime, I connected/disconnected the power supply. I do not think the power supply is at fault, but as I connect or disconnet the PS it forces a graphic card switch and it goes black.
I use gfx CardStatus, so I know when it switches from the Intel to the NVIDIA et vis et versa.
Also with no PS connected, when I switch manually using gfx, forcing the MBP to run from only one graphic card, it just bring the screen to black with that little hazy little white line running half way through from the top left coner of the screen. The computer carries on working normally as I have noticed while streaming and it is just the screen going black.
The only way to bring back the screen display, is to do a force shutdown and a reboot, hoping that the card is not going to switch while doing important stuff.
In any case it is very annoying, scary, and a design fault of somesort from the factory.
I do not have any apple care, out of warrenty, and only in the last couple of days I can reproduce it systematically at every switch of card.
Is there any replacement scheme put in place for this fault? or what is the solution if any?
Many thanks in advance as usually.

    Hello and welcome..
    (yes I have many loaded)
    Make sure there's enough space...
Connect your iPad to your computer. Launch iTunes. Select the Summary tab. Look at the bottom of the window for available storage space.

  • Sudden Crashing Issue

    HP Pavilion p6380a Home PC
    Windows 7 64-bit
Have had this computer for about 2 years, and have had many issues since day one. First sound card issues were the problem and if i remember correctly the tower had to be replaced.
Since then we have somehow destroyed two/three hard drives.
Now, after playing Crysis 2, during any game, be it Flash or Unreal Engine or so on, randomly the screen will flash off and show no input while the tower stays online. Since I have had music palying while this has happened, I know that the music continues to play for 10-15 seconds after the screen goes down then stutters and jams and the tower reboots.
Any clues as to what it happening again with this computer?
(virus scans have shown clean. hardware diagnostics have shown clean.)
    P.S Specs are as follows
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67 GHz
    4.00 GB Ram
    64-bit Windows 7 OS
NVIDIA Geforce GT220 3D Video Card

    Hello Starkiller,
Sounds like a video card crash. Seeing how everything else that is going on with your computer (screen turning black) it sounds more and more like a video card problem.
Are you running the latest drivers for the video card? Looks like the latest version from what I can tell online is Version 306.97 - WHQL.

  • Kernel Panic - It's the Video Card or What?

I've been experiencing this since the last week, i'm using the Macbook Pro (Running Lion 10.7.3) and at one moment the screen start to flicker (Look at the photo) and then shows the Gray Screen of Death. When i turn off then ON, the Macbook Pro screen goes with the apple logo but Pink. After some attempts i can finally boot and use it for about a day and then it does it again.
This log is from yesterday, for me it's very strange because i havent installed anything, i refuse to think it the VIDEO CARD.... because when it works it just work fine.

    Thanks to both of you;
Right now i'm using my Macbook Pro 17 (Early2010) didn't had another one. The one affected with the problem is there in a box, i'm thinking about getting it to a diagnostic because it doesn't have warranty.
Its kinda weird because i can use it for almost a day and it dont throw any error. When it bad behave it doesnt matter what im doing, has happened during FinalCut or Photoshop or also just surfing the web...!
Video Card for me it's not an option because like you said it its throwing panic kernels which in my experience, these video card crash just goes off and that is.
if you know anything else please help me and let me know, this is a 14 months old MBP... Apple do not want to talk to me via telephone support.

  • A video card issue isn't going to crash 32 bit bridge - is it??!!

So I'm having the same occasional 32 bit bridge crashes as everyone else, then I simply replace an intermittently malfunctioning fan on my Nvidia GT120 video card, and immediately I have 32 bit bridge crashes gone wild! As in a few seconds after start up of any Logic project that used 32 bit plugs. Entirely crippling.
Just a coincidence regarding the video card / fan ya think?
Everything else seems to be functioning fine on the system.

Ahem. SORRY for the false alarm blabbering.... this episode turns out to be just another of my usual dufus-ish stunts.
When reconnecting stuff after installing that fan, a USB cable to a Line 6 Gear Box interface that serves as a dongle was left unpulgged. THAT was my problem.
    NEVERMIND.
