Video card difference in FCP X - 6750M (512 MB) vs 6770M (1GB) X

Hi FCP X users,
I am sooting a lot of Full HD video on Canon 5D MK II and I am about to switch to new MBP15 from my 2010 MBP13.
Now I am not sure, whether I will get some real, measurable advantage with 15" 2,4  MBP with AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 1 GB VRAM over 15" 2,2  MBP with AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512 MB VRAM.
For average work, background rendering and work with Full HD video - will there be a work speed and responsiveness difference between 512 MB and 1 GB I will be regretting later with only 512 MB?
Assuming 8 GB of RAM. I also work a lot with Aperture, but there I do not expect any speed increase.
Thanks for your experience!

  • AJA video card to export FCP project to DigiBeta and BetaSP

On an OSX Mac G-5 computer, is it as simple as just plugging in the AJA Kona video card into the computer slot and it's ready to export a FCP project to DigiBeta or BetaSP deck using the video card patch cords? Or do I have to download drivers and/or codecs to convert the FCP to export using the AJA card?
    Thanks,

Yes you have to download drivers and setups to use the card. it's not painful. Check their website for updates and make sure you use drivers setups compatable with the particular card and version of FCP. You also need a robust enuff disk array to play out the project and appropriate interfacing for the dbeta or BSP ie cables and monitoring. The breakout cables that attach to the card are suitable for a minimalist system but depending on the card and your monitoring system you may require other devices and/or cables for monitoring

  • 24" iMac Video Card difference

    Hello,
Is there a noticeable difference between the NVidia 128mgs and 256mgs cards - specifically while gaming - as to how the graphics show on the screen?
    Thanks.
    Jen

The 7600GT/256 will give you much better 3D
performace than the 7300GT/128. Especially in the
high-end 3D games when maxing out the screen res.
Would definately go for the 7600 if you're a gamer.
    lenn
Thank you Lenn. I already have the 128 (unfortunately) and I notice a difference between my MacBook Pro with the ATI 256 and my iMac with the 128. I play WoW.
So now the question is, is it worth it spending the money to get the 256mgs on the iMac? And what do I do with my current 24" iMac. Such dilemas...lol
    thanks for your quick response.

  • Is there a known conflict between a CalDigit FASTA-GU3 sata/USB 3 card and an ATI Radeon X1900XT video card?

    Hello all.
I am having trouble with my Mac Pro (circa 2008) not powering up the monitor (an Apple HD Cinema Display 23 inch).
    Here's some history.
For about two weeks I was having trouble waking up the monitor from sleep. I would have to reboot the computer to see the screen.
Then the screen wouldn't wake up after many reboots. I tried the Apple Cinema Display on my MacBook Pro laptop an on an older Mac Mini. The display didn’t' work on any of them.
I then hooked up a Samsung monitor to all three computers in turn. The Samsung worked fine with each.
From that I deduced that it was Apple HD Cinema Display that was at fault.
I replaced it with one I bought from a friend - in perfect working condition.
The new Apple Display worked fine with my Mac Pro.
Problem solved - or so I thought.
Now, a few days later, I am having a repeat of the same problem. The Apple Cinema Display won't wake up.
I removed all the peripheral devices, still no joy.
I removed and reseated the video card (after blasting all with compressed air).
    Still no joy.
I then removed the CalDigit FASTA-GU3 sata/USB 3 card I installed about a year ago.
Now the Apple Display came back to life.
So my question is, are there know conflicts between a CalDigit FASTA-GU3 and an ATI Radeon X1900XT video card?
If so - is there a fix?
    Also open to other theories.
    Other tech specs:
Mac Pro (from around 2008) 2 x 3 GHZ Quad Intel Xeon.
    OSX Lion
The video card is an ATI Radeon X1900XT (512 MB)
Apple HD Cinema Display - 23 inch
    Many thanks.

Thanks for the info on the Expansion Slot Utility. I found it and ran it. It shows no problems. It shows the ATI Radeon X1900XT to be properly installed and running at full capacity.
I found a reliable dealer of flashed ATI Radeon 5770 cards. A couple of trusted friends have had good luck with cards from the dealer.
So I will have that on stand-by for when/if the existing card fails completely.
    Thanks everyone for your input.

  • How much better is the 256mb video card?

I am shopping to get a new laptop and am sold on the MacbookPro 15'' model, but a I am wondering how much better the 2.16 model is than the 2.00.
My real concern is in the video card. If I get the 2.0GHZ model with 1GB of RAM should I just upgrade to the 2.16 and get double the video card.
How much of disadvantage will I be at with 128mb graphics card running say Adobe Illustartor(if the Intel version ever comes out.)
    Thanks

Actually it's more of the opposite. Unless you are
playing a game like Oblivion, the extra Vram will not
make any noticeable difference in games. The pipes
and frequency are the same on both models. The extra
Vram helps in editting situations as there is more to
    draw from.
Never did I say it will make a noticable difference in games, I said 5-10%. I don't know what "editting situations" is but in most programs it does not help at all unless the program uses GPU to render rich 3d graphics such as animation programs.
I just have a MBP so can't offer a firsthand account
but I did read an online magazine I think in the UK
where they compared gaming performance between the
two and it was huge. One some popular games the
    performance was like
    60 FPS MBP
    10 FPS MB
I don't recall the exact games they tested but there
WAS a big gaming difference. So check it out and
    google for some test results.
Thats Macbook vs. Macbook Pro i.e. Intel Integraed video card vs. X1600, he wants to know how x1600 256mb compares to the 128mb version.

  • Video Cards In FCP, do they matter?

Hi, I am going to be getting a new MacPro. Do video cards make any difference in FCP?
The MacPro product page only talks about video games Motion and some other apps. No mention of FCP, so does it matter if I have an ATI Radeon 4870 1GB or and Nvidia 980GT?
    Thanks, Anil K Solanki

Hi I have a 2x2.66 Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon
    8GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM Mac Pro..
    4 TB HDD
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Blackmagic HD Decklink
    Snow Leopard
And I am looking for a Good Video Card to work with this Early Mac Pro I've searched the internet and all it shows is video cards for (early 2009 Mac Pros) 800 MHz or DDR3. Please advise which video card I can buy and where to buy it, I edit an one hour show and use Final Cut and Motion round trip for graphics. I know my MAC Pro is a little outdated but hey.. I can't afford to buy a new one (yet).
    Thanks in advance!

  • 2.5 GHZ MBP vs. 2.6 GHZ MBP and 512 vs. 256 video card

I am about to buy a 15 inch MBP as my only computer--I'd be using it for internet use as well as Final Cut Pro, Web Page Design (primarily Dreamweaver) and Photoshop, with light use of other graphic programs. I don't know if it's best to dish out all the extra cash to buy the 2.6 GHZ processor instead of a 2.5 GHZ one. How much of a difference does it make? What exactly does the GHZ affect--the speed of all applications? Additionally, I don't know understand the ramifications of the 512 vs. 256 graphics card, and therefore don't know if the more powerful card warrants the extra $500 for the higher-spec 15 inch model. Does it make much of a difference for the applications above that I'll be using(I'm not a gamer, so I figured the graphics card for me will be primarily for rendering effects for the above applications. I want this computer to last me a good while, but at the same time don't want to throw away money for specs above what I need. I know I should up the RAM but I plan to do that later on, but the GHZ and video card specs can't be increased later as the RAM can. Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice.

If you're going to do any significant amount of work in Final Cut, the 512 MB VRAM card would be the best bet. The more video ram you have the faster the application can run. Of course, make sure you max out the regular ram in the machine as well. Good luck to you!

  • Multiple Video Cards and FCP

I'm looking at getting a mac pro, and I'm wondering if there is any point to getting multiple video cards (2x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB).
I've been editing in FCP on a G5 for years now, and only had one video card.
Does the current version of FCP7 utilize them? Or does any of the other Studio software utilize them?
And if FCP7 does take advantage of multiple cards, where am I going to notice the difference if I add multiple cards... rendering? exporting? playback?
    Any advice would be great!

We see this topic in various forms about weekly.
FCP does not use multiple cards. In fact, FCP really doesn't take advantage of a single card's GPU. But Motion does, which means if you have .motn files in your FCP project, you may see some kind of boost.
I don't know anything about the 120 but, personally, I will never buy another nvidia card. The minimum for Motion would be the Radeon 4870.
FCPv5 and v6 had issues with some FxPlug filters supplied with Motion if you had multiple monitors plugged into multiple cards but not of you had multiple monitors plugged into a single card. This got fixed in FCP7.

  • Problems with FCP and Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT video card

Not sure if this should be in the MacBook Pro forum or this one...
I am having trouble with the GeForce 8600M GT video card while editing in final cut pro (and after effects). I have talked with numerous people at applecare, but they say that they are unaware of issues regarding the video card.
The problem: It's almost like the card is unable to keep up with professional video applications. Whenever there is movement in the video I'm editing, I get lines across the screen. Not sure to how better to explain it than to say it looks like the video card is having a tough time refreshing. (I can take the same video to a much older power book, and it plays perfectly, so its not the source file.)
At first I thought it was an FCP issue, but I just started using after effects, and I'm having the same problem in there. If I edit in after effects, when I play it back (in after effects), I get the lines. I can then export the project to a quicktime file. The quicktime file plays perfectly (no lines) when not involved with a professional application. Then if I import the same quicktime file into FCP and play it back in FCP, the lines happen again.
Is anyone esle having this problem? Any thoughts? Any solutions?
    Thanks!
    Michael

I had searched the macbook pro forum, but not this one. It seems that the "screen tearing" issue has been talked about a lot, so I apologize for the repetitive nature of the post. I will say that I am fairly shocked that given how many people have clearly called applecare, no one there seems to have a clue that there is a problem with this video card. I have talked with at least 4 different people in the FCP specialty group, and not one had any clue what I was talking about... 3 of the 4 were fairly insistent that it was a video source issue on my side.

  • How do I export FCP project to DigiBeta -- what video card?

How can I export my 90 minute movie edited in FCP to a rented DigiBeta deck, so it will be broadcast quality? What video card do I need to buy? I can't afford an HD, so an SD card is fine for now. Where do I get one? And how much? Are they easy to install? Is it as easy as transferring to mini-DV, but to digibeta? Are there controls while transferring, or does it automatically make a perfect clone of the FCP project onto DigiBeta? I can't find info on video cards in SD anywhere for the MAC. Thank you.
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    See if this helps.
In the analog world, every generation - copying from one tape to the next - loses quality. A generation of BetaSP doesn't destroy the material, but a generation on VHS pretty much does.
If you have something important that is already on VHS, it will still lose some quality going to BetaSP. Probably not enough to matter, but the best quality will still come from that VHS tape.
    The analogy to digital video:
Contrary to what everybody thought in the early days, digital video often works the same way. As soon as you commit images to DV compression you have compressed it and lost a lot of the quality of the otiginal camera signal.
As soon as you apply transitions, filters, CC, etc. in editing, you are recompressing and losing more quality. Sometimes these two compressions create visible problems.
Fortunately, outputting that product to DV tape is a digital clone of the date and loses no quality. So there is nothing gained by going to DigiBeta from your system as compared to taking a tape out for transfer.
But when you take that DV edit from DV format to DigiBeta, it is being compressed again. It will lose quality. Not as much as another DV recompression, but enough to make any visible artifacting worse.
The best thing, in my oopinion, for you to do is to move your bits into a DigiBeta-equivalent sequence (is that the same as DVCPro50?) and render. Then find a way to get that into DigiBeta - most likely from hard drive at a service bureau or dub house.
The second best thing you can do is to tell the dub house that your deliverable is going to be DV. If it makes them feel any better you can provide it as a QT file.
In the end DigiBeta will not add to your quality but decrease it. Probably not a enough to matter, but enough to be a ridiculous requirement under the corcumstances.
Also consider whether they are working for you, or you are working for them.

  • Cannot Detect Video card (Radeon 6750m)

    Dear sir,
I would like to know why my laptop cannot detect my video card (Radeon 6750m). It only shows the built in graphic card intel. I already try to use system restore and reset to original factory mode. It will appear but after updating my drivers and reboot my laptop.  My laptop cannot detect again the video card.
Please help me resolve this problem,
    for you reference

You will have to enable the Radeon HD adapter by using the Catalyst Control Center.
Once you do that the adapter will appear in the Device manager.
If you are using the Intel HD graphics, only the Intel graphics will be seen in the Device Manager.
I know that may sound strange, but it is one of the pecularities of having a switchable graphics capable notebook.
The following URL goes to an overview of switchable graphics. Take a few minutes and read it. It should help make understanding it simpler.
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv4-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5048648/model/5...
Do not instal the Intel graphics driver seperately!
Doing that breaks the switchable graphics feature.
Only install the HP ADM ATI graphics softpaq. It will install both drivers automatically and let you use the switchable graphics featrure og your notebook.

  • About the 512 video card

    HI:
I recently asked a question about RAM and I was told that putting more wouldn´t really speed up things like rendering and stuff. I have 5GB. I was wondering since they sell now in México the upgrade for video card online.
I have the custom 200 and something card that came with 2.66ghz mac pro and I was wondering if I install the 512 card would it really bust up speed in FC?
They would work together or only one would be the default card leaving the other only to use displays?
Well any other pointer in making things faster without having to buy a new computer would be nice
    Thanks in advance.

I guess I should have been more specific.

  • Difference between video cards

Hi Im buying an imac but I cant afford the 2gb ram 256 videoram 24 inches imac so Im buying the 20 inches instead. I notice that the video cards are diferent ( can chosse 256 mb as well) but only with an ATI card not the nVidea card. So if both are 256 mb wahts teh difference?
    thanks in advance

    Just a thought... ...between:
    20" Screen, 250Gb HDD, 2Gb RAM, 256Mb Graphics, and,
    24" Screen, 250Gb HDD, 1Gb RAM, 256Mb Graphics,
is only $150 dollars. If you could stretch to that you could upgrade the RAM yourself to 3Gb later.
Remember part of the reason the iMac 24" needs a better graphics card is the need to drive a higher resolution screen; something the 20" doesn't need to be able to do.
Another option would be to go for the 20" and then add a second display and use it in dual-screen mode (especially if you work in graphics or video this could be an option).
    Enjoy your purchase!
