Video Card drivers

So just to make things easier for people. Should you ever find out that you have outdated drivers and you are on BootCamp. What you should do is go to the Apple Bootcamp page and just download the latest version of it. As of 06/06/2013 the latest version is 5.0.5033. After the download just install it and all pertinent drivers will be installed thus you won't get messages like your drivers are out of date and the like.
This may seem like trivial information to veteran MacBook users but finding this information took half a day! Spread the word around and hope you guys have an awesome one!!!

Reference drivers are written by the manufacturer to demonstrate how to interface with their chips, often these drivers are not optimised for a particular system so may slow or not well behaved. Apple or other venders use these drivers as a blueprint to write optimised ( hopefully ) drivers.

  • Video card drivers location?

Hello. I have a pop up message when trying to run Firestorm virtual world client in Windows 7 (in Boot Camp on new MacBook Pro).
It says that the 'video card drivers did not install properly'
So i opened device manager and scrooled down the list and no 'video card' listed on menu but everything is all up to date except Other Device - Coprocessor and SM Bus Controller.
Right clicked to update these but no fix found online :-(
Could this be the problem though?
Or does some windows only application not run on a Mac even in Boot Camp?
    Thanks.

If you have a new Mac you also have Lion, or Mountain Lion. This means you do not have a disk, because there isn't one. Go back to Boot Camp, try again, the servers are notoriously erratic, be patient.

  • HP ProBook 4520s Video Card Drivers issue

I've installed OpenSuse 11.4 on my ProBook 4520s but cannot install the ATI video card drivers downloaded from HP website because they have issues (the details are below). The same problem occurred when I was trying SLED 11.
Any help in resolving it is much appreciated.

  • Mac Mini video card drivers Win 7 64 bit sp1

I was running OSX 10.6.4 and dual booting with Vista 64 bit when Vista crashed.  I went out and purchased Win 7 64 bit SP1 OEM version.  I used bootcamp to install this sucesfully but whatever I seem to try I cannot find/install the correct driver for the graphics card in Win 7.  It still defaults to Standard VGA Graphics Adapter 1280 x 1024.
I moved from the U.S to Thailand but forgot to bring my bootcamp disc  (Otherwise I might not even be writing this post).  I purchased a copy of Snow Lepoard 10.6.3 which has bootcamp 3.1 on it but still not the correct video card drivers.  I have also upgraded bootcamp to 3.2 and 3.3 and tried all the Win 7 updaates but to no avail.  I have tried to install manually from bootcamp on the DVD, I have read a few forums with the same issue but it tends to be a MacBook Pro and not a Mac Mini issue.  I have also instaleld Nvidia 285.38 and 285.62 drivers and both of these give me a black screen, so I know these are not the correct drivers.
I purchased my Mac Mini in Nov of 2010 and its a model MC270LL/A.  If I look in OSX I can see my video card is the
    Nvidia Geforce 320 M
    Vendor - NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID 0x08a4
    Revision ID 0x00a2
    Rom Revision 3546.
I am not sure why this has to be so difficult but it is!  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.

    There's a complicated driver issue.
    I'm also a user of Mac mini(2010, server) with windows7 x64.
    My experience is:
The only newest nvidia driver for daily using without trouble is 267.76.
If you want to use 27x~ 285.62/285.79,
your primary monitor must be connected to Mac mini with miniDisplayPort-VGA adapter,
I got the same black screen with applying HDMI port as primary.
If you upgrade to 290.36/295.51(the latest one),
you can prevent black screen with HDMI port, sounds good, right?
But as long as you update to any of the newest two drivers,
you will suffer BSOD(Blue Screen of Death, abnormally reboot, error code:0x116) during checking Windows index
or just watching HD movies, that anything may cause GPU malfunction.
    Referece thread:http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215256
I still searching the solution because the HDMI 1.4a 3D supporting of my projector was begun from 285.62.
I always got BSOD when I want to enjoy Blu-ray 3D films.

  • Video Card Drivers AMD Radeon HD 6770M

I went to AMD website to get the dirvers for my new laptop's video card. They weren't compatible and sent me here to download your drivers. I installed them worked perfectly, but then after 2 minutes of playing a game (Minecraft) it froze, and went into a 1sec black screen then said the driver crashed and successfully resolved the crash. I attempt again to play the game and yet again the same sequence accured. Please assist me!

I think it is ridiculous that HP doesn't EVER update their drivers. What is the point of having a graphics card if you can't use it? We have to go through back doors to even have a chance of using current software that requires updated graphics cards. Last update from HP for the graphics card, November. NOVEMBER. Thanks for caring HP.

  • Multiple video card drivers?

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I guess it's a newbie question.
I have Arch installed on my USB pen drive. It will therefore be taken around on different computers with different hardware - including video cards.
I figured that I basically had two choices:
      1. Install some very general drivers that work with basically anything
      2. Install many specialized drivers
For #1 I guess Vesa will do, but it won't give me a lot of eye-candy. I believe alsa is quite general so I won't need anything else for sound?
My question is related to #2. Is it a good idea to have many drivers installed? Can they all be installed at the same time?
I would appreciate if anyone had some advice for me here, not only for video cards, but also for other hardware, like printers.

I dont think mixing two video drivers like nvidia and ATI is recommended. Use the VESA driver and for printers it's also different , most sound cards support ALSA.

  • Video Card Upgradeable and Video card drivers?????

Hello apple community. I frequently use my intel 20" imac for games by using Bootcamp (IT OWNS!!!!) to switch to Windows XP. I have been running Steam games with about 40-50 fps on all high settings except anti aliasing is set at x8 CSAA instead of the max, x16 CSAA. I know my graphics card can get more frames than x8. I blame the drivers. Where can I find good ATI drivers?
Also, I want a new video card, but is it possible to upgrade your video card on the imac? is it really soldered on to the motherboard????

Are there any news or updates to this? I'm thinking of buying the 24" iMac which sports an ATI HD 2600 Pro video card, but as AMD/ATI has revealed, they will be releasing the HD 3850 and 3870 in mobile versions soon and so I wonder if iMac will get an upgrade to these in stock or if I can do an upgrade myself after I buy it, or while I configure it in the Apple Store (or at a local Apple retailer).
I currently have a home-built PC and use it mostly for casual gaming, programming and graphical stuff (Adobe, typically). I'd love to have an iMac to do all of these things on, but the video card is currently a bit behind in terms of raw performance; otherwise the 24" iMac is a great machine. So I'd love to upgrade the video card, however it's possible (if it is), or at least get an indication of when the HD 2600 will be replaced with a HD 3870 or 3850. Does anyone know?

I have problems with a few games that have. Dead Space 2, Fable 3, and Borderlands have graphical glitches that i tried to fix myself, but to not success. i tried to change the settings on the them and tried patching them to the latch version. I also tried to update the drivers from Ati's website, but when i tried to install them, it states that my video card is incompatible with it. I have the Ati Mobility Radeon HD 6550 on the HP dv7-4280us. Any help on this situiation will be greatly appreciated.

  • Help with video card drivers, etc.

I just bought a MSI GeForce4 ti4600 8x agp, but I cant get it to install as that card with the newer nvidia drivers.  I'm stuck on the cd drivers, v.3100 because I cant seem to change to the newest ones (43.45), since every time i install them it changes my card to a geforce4 ti4800.  i've tested it in 3dmark, and it seems i lose about 100 3dmark points if i update the drivers.  someone please help me find out whats wrong, or what i can do.
    windows 2000
    epox 8k5a+ mobo
    amd athlon xp 2000+
    geforce 4 ti4600 8xagp
    768 DDR333 pc2700

Losing or gaining a few hundred marks is quite usual when changing drivers. Im guessing you havn't changed the BIOS since you've just got the card. All i would suggest is that you remove the display drivers (control panel - add/remove programs) and reload with the standard PCI display adapter. Then try a fresh install of the newer drivers.
See if that works, oh and btw, don't bother with the 43.45 drivers, they are terrible! go for 41.09, they're solid. You will lose the MSI display tabs but use coolbits if you haven't already, works just as well.
    Best of luck!

  • Possible Video Card problem while running 3d applications on wine

Hello guys, I got an issue with wine running 3d games/applications on the netbook and I thought this was the right place to post, since I'm pretty new to Arch, sorry if I messed something up with the sections.
Long story short: The applications/games I "tested" are Football Manager 2013 (via Steam) and Nintendo64 emulator. I didn't post on the wine forums since I'm pretty sure it's not a wine related problem, due to the fact that on my desktop both work without any problem with same wine and Arch configuration.
The netbook as an integrated Intel video,  while the desktop has a nvidia card.
So I'm assuming there something wrong with the video card/drivers/configuration even if X runs good and seem configured correctly.
When I run those games with wine i get the following error and I get a black screen on wine:

  • PS CS5 claims my video cards have zero memory, no GPU access!

    Hi folks
Firsrt post here. I hope some one can assist as I have been dealing with this issue for few days now. My hard drive died last week...had to reinstall everything. Now, for some reason Photoshop refuses to enable OpenGL access even though before I was able to use Photoshop with same video cards. I have reinstalled the app multiple times, reset prefs many times, installed various versions of my video card drivers (right now I am on the latest drive). I checked Adobe and NVidia sites and my cards are listed as supported. I checked Device driver (shows cards installed ok) and Windows sees my cards and I check Direct X diagnostics and it sees my cards memories.
    Here are my specs:
    Windows Vista 32
2 x NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX (have a 512 memory each, not running SLI)
    4 Gigs of RAM
    2 x 500 Gig WD drives
    Wacom Cintiq as second display
I know my OpenGL works because I am able to run Modo fine. I checked in Device Manager and all seems ok.
Here is the top part of what Photoshop shows in Systems Information:

Again, the only thing I notice is zero memory for my cards which seems odd.
    I greatly appreciate some help.

Update the video card driver, and if that doesn't work - talk to NVIdia.
We can only go by the values returned by the video card driver.

  • Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT Card Drivers

I was just on the Nvidia site looking to see whether or not there was a new driver for my GeForce 7300 GT card. I've had my Mac Pro for a year now, and wasn't sure if Software Update included non-Apple stuff like updated video card drivers. Long story short, I was surprised to see such a non-Apple friendly site. There was virtually nothing there to help me at all. That being the case, I wonder why Apple would even do business with Nvidia. Furthermore, is it even possible to update the driver on my card?
    Carl

The drivers are Apple and included with OS X updates and graphics updates, not from Nvidia (though Nvidia would IF they sold a retail Apple EFI compatible card, Nvidia provides basics and Apple customizes them for OS X).

  • Apple Multiple Scan 1705 - usable with modern video cards?

I still have an old Apple Multiple Scan 1705 display which I've been using continuously since ~1995. Even though I don't have a Mac anymore (I know, I know, mea culpa), I hooked it up to my PC and it has worked great. But, I recently received a newer hand-me-down PC from my sibling. It didn't come with a monitor, but I thought that would be OK as I could just switch the monitor from my old system to the new system.
As it turns out, it's not that easy. When I boot it up, the monitor goes blank after POST, usually between the XP screen and the welcome screen. Sometimes I can actually get as far as seeing the desktop, but the screen usually goes blank before I can navigate anywhere. It works fine in safe mode, though. From what I've read on the Web, this would appear to be an "infinite loop" problem, where the OS and the video card stop speaking to each other.
I may be on a fool's errand here, trying to combine a PC video card (an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS) with an Apple monitor which is ten years older than it. I've done some basic troubleshooting, such as reinstalling the video card drivers and visually inspecting the hardware and connections. But I wonder if it is even possible for the two to communicate properly. For the record, I'm running Windows XP SP3. Has anyone else been foolish enough to try this?
My girlfriend hates the bulkiness of this old CRT monitor and wants to get a flat panel anyway, but while I save up for that, it would be nice to be able to use the new computer with the old monitor. Even if it won't work, I've gotten 13 years of use out of the monitor, so I certainly got my money's worth. But I thought I'd check with the community and see if there's any life left in the old display.
    Thanks for your help!

In Windows XP, in order to change the resolution for the monitor, you have to right-click on the desktop and select "Properties". This bring up "Display Properties". From there, you click the "Settings" tab. This gives you some basic options. For a wider selection of resolutions and refresh rates, click on the "Advanced" button. Then select the "Adapter" tab and press the "List All Modes" button. This lists all the available configurations for resolution, refresh rate, and colors. I fiddled around with these, trying all of the configurations that were supposed to work according to the Apple Multiple Scan 1705 specs. Unfortunately, anything other than VGA 640x480 60Hz would cause a "blue screen of death".
My girlfriend had indicated that she wanted to get a flat panel display anyway (to get back some of that desk real estate), so I decided to cut my losses and buy a new monitor. Unfortunately, I now have the exact same problem with the new monitor. So, it seems the problem is not with the monitor after all. Or, at the least, that's not the only problem. Once I resolve what other hardware/software issue is going on, I'll see if the 1705 display will work. But for practical purposes, you can consider this question resolved.
Thanks for entertaining my obscure question.

  • Video card driver issue with K8T FSR

I put a new system togather yesterday. Here are the spcs.
    AMD64 2800+
    MSI K8T FSR (VIA chipset)
Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
    WD 120 mb drive
    Gainward fx5600xt 128MB
I installed Windows XP 32bit, VIA 4in1 drivers and directX 9. Most of the BIOS is set to safe performance (no overclocking). I then installed the latest nvidia drivers and rebooted. I see the Windows XP logo and then I get different colors on the screen. No display or colors only (no pattern). I rebooted in safe mode and uninstalled the drivers and the system booted fine. I then installed the driver I got with the card and same thing happened. Anyone experince this sort of behavior after installing video driver? Or does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix my problem. Any help is grealy appreciated.
    Thanks.

Try installing latest drivers from card manufacturers website. Before you do that, go ahead and install DirectX drivers first...then re-boot system and try to locate latest video card drivers. Or, let Widows find compatible drivers from it's source, and use those until you get your system running stable....then venture out on the web for your GPU's latest software....just some ideas.....
