Video card freaking out?

This one's tough to explain, but here it goes:
The display seems to go in-and-out of focus (or gets blurry), and the area around my mouse cursor gets warped when I move it. This isn't program-specific. Sorry for such a vague description, but I really don't know how to explain it. It seems to be aggravated by moving the cursor.
Thanks

You can run a hardware test to diagnosis. If your MacBook Pro is one of the newer ones "unibody," hold down the "D" key after rebooting without a disk in the drive to run the hardware test. Otherwise, insert one of the DVDs it came with, hold down the "D" key during startup.

Hope this helps.

  • Video card going out?

i get bars of pixels going across my screen most of the time. They are sometimes black and other times they are multi-colored. Also when i scroll down a page, some times it does this funky thing where it looks like....man i cant really describe it..... i cant get a screen capture of it because it goes away when i click outside of the window
Also, if they are in a window, they will move with that window.
Could this be happening because of the video card going out?

    Hi
Actually I noticed it first on the upgrade screen from Tiger to Leopard, and it then became progressively worse, even before 10.5.2.
Since increasing fan speed seems to help I don't believe it's a software issue, although software can play a part in stressing (or de-stressing) the video card. If the fans work for you and your iMac is out of warranty you might just have to live with it. The cost of repair for a video card/logic board (from what I'm told) is not worth contemplating.
Also, as a photographer I'm not planning to upgrade to the new iMac because of the gloss screen. With any luck the next generation of iMac will have a choice between gloss and matte.
    Cheers,

  • How do I get my NX6600GT-TD128E (PCIE) video card installed on a K8N NEO4-F Mb ?

I have received two new NX6600GT-TD128E (MS-8983) vdeo cards to install on my new K8N NEO4-F (MS-7125) motherboard flashed with BIOS ver 1.B.
First video card turned out to be bad.  The replacement card allows view of bios screens and post screen, but when Windows XP (pro) starts up, the video goes blank and Windows XP locks up dead.
Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get the video card up and running?

  • Best video card for my mac

    Hey,
I just need help finding the best video card for my Powermac g4 fw800. One that my system can use fully. I currently have a Radeon 9000Pro with 64MB. Thanks
    ~R

    Hi
The ATI 9800-256MB is currently the best card for your system. Actually, there are no other NEW video cards available.
BTW, xlr8yourmac hasn't done a video card review in years, they are just a bulletin board/newsletter now. If you are interested in seeing current testing of available video cards, check out:

  • Anyone upgrade video card on HP 500y w/o upgrading PSU?

Or, what video card can I upgrade to w/o needing to upgrade PSU?
I remember reading recently that a new video card came out with surprisingly low wattage requirements...can't find source.
    Catfish

According to the comments from users, THIS card is about the best for what the PS can muster.

    Hi Guys,
I am using the full width video widget on a site. The widget was working perfectly however I have just added additional content to the site and re-uploaded and now the video is not working! Please help I have tried everything and am freaking out as this web-site has been payed for by my client.
    Alex

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card. The serial number on my computer is: RM620603R6W. Apple won't help me because the computer is older than suggested. Please give me the exact video card that will work best for my computer.

Hi Mike, make sure the card has Mac ROM, or is a PC card with Mac ROMs flashed to it...
G5 PCIe options are listed here:

  • Mozilla's Web O'(pen) Wonder says video card driver is out of date, but Device Manager says it is up to date.

I have recently upgraded to Firefox 4, and I must say that I love it (:
Although, I want to try out Mozilla's Web O'(pen) Wonder, but it gives me this message :
Unfortunately, while your browser supports WebGL, your video drivers may be too old. To view any of the demos tagged with WebGL, try updating your drivers at NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel.
You can still watch screencasts of the WebGL demos or fully experience our other non-WebGL demos without updating
The problem is that my Device Manager says that my video card is the latest available.
    What do I do now?

11 people have this problem now. What video cards supports WebGL?

If you supplied name, card number, expiry etc. then your details are already available for sale/abuse and you should cancel at once.

  • FREAKING OUT HERE!! videos not playing in 4.0.3

I have a major presentation to give in 3 hours and I am having a MAJOR freak out here. I've had trouble with movies not playing properly before (black screen with just the audio playing) but either clicking on the 'Allow Expose, Dashboard....' button in preferences, or reloading them (insert, choose) has fixed the problem. Now nothing seems to work. Tried rebooting the machine, even trying to play a single movie in a new document. Nothing. I'm sunk if I can't get this wretched program to work very very soon. HELP ANYONE!!

What's the format of the videos? Do they play in QuickTime, iTunes?

  • Magnetic Lasso is FREAKING OUT

Ok, I have a problem that I've never seen before. When using the magnetic lasso tool, photoshop starts freaking out and flashing a 'transparent effect' rectangular area all over the screen. the only way to get it to stop is 'command D'
I have two students that this is happening to. In my 5 years of teaching photoshop I have never encountered this issue before. Using CS4 btw.
    TIA!

Vicky, did you read post 3?
Chances are you have a display driver problem.
Are you on a PC?  If so, you can visit the web site of the maker of your video card and seek out their latest display driver release for the video card and operating system you have.  Once you download and install the latest, reboot your system (sometimes the install doesn't require it but do so anyway) then re-test Photoshop.
    Good luck!

  • Freaking out---FCPX 3 downloads

Hey guys---freaking out here. Here is my story..Downloaded FCPX for work on MY apple id with there card.  So I have FCPX on 2 machines at work..one is a laptop, another is a iMac.  They are both work computers...not mine...I did this last year (downloaded on my account)in a pinch to do some video editing for work..A couple of months ago I purchased a iMac from home and saw the FCPX available in my store. So I downloaded it.  I thought I could download it 5 times on authorized computers. Now I realize you half to own them...so the 2 computers at work are in non legal status.  Now I am freaking out apple will find out and call my work and I will get fired...I would buy a license  for personnel use but I can't again on the store. Should I delete the home version???

The Terms of Use for Mac App Store apps is that you may install apps bought with your Apple ID on all Macs that you own or control, including work computers if they are under your control. You shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Besides, Apple isn't big brother, Apple has no idea where you have installed the apps, Apple works on an honor system.
