Video card going out?

i get bars of pixels going across my screen most of the time. They are sometimes black and other times they are multi-colored. Also when i scroll down a page, some times it does this funky thing where it looks like....man i cant really describe it..... i cant get a screen capture of it because it goes away when i click outside of the window
Also, if they are in a window, they will move with that window.
Could this be happening because of the video card going out?
The lines look just like this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3243/25990075431695b18555b.jpg

Hi
Actually I noticed it first on the upgrade screen from Tiger to Leopard, and it then became progressively worse, even before 10.5.2.
Since increasing fan speed seems to help I don't believe it's a software issue, although software can play a part in stressing (or de-stressing) the video card. If the fans work for you and your iMac is out of warranty you might just have to live with it. The cost of repair for a video card/logic board (from what I'm told) is not worth contemplating.
Also, as a photographer I'm not planning to upgrade to the new iMac because of the gloss screen. With any luck the next generation of iMac will have a choice between gloss and matte.
Cheers,
GLi

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Your videos are likely 1920 x 1080p30 H.264.mov. Please confirm.
First question, do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer. If not, please do that

  • Horizontal lines on imac display, video card going bad?

I have horizontal lines and a triangular shaped artifact on my 24 inch Imac display. This happens after quite awhile of use, so I am thinking it might be the video card is about to go. Also, have issues with viewing flash videos, the browser (safari) will just quit responding, sometimes it will recover. Most times I have to reboot the machine. I believe all these syptoms are related. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your graphic card is damaged. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get the computer repaired.
Both problems may be related, because Flash uses the graphic card and it often fails

  • Video card freaking out?

This one's tough to explain, but here it goes:
The display seems to go in-and-out of focus (or gets blurry), and the area around my mouse cursor gets warped when I move it. This isn't program-specific. Sorry for such a vague description, but I really don't know how to explain it. It seems to be aggravated by moving the cursor.
    Thanks

You can run a hardware test to diagnosis. If your MacBook Pro is one of the newer ones "unibody," hold down the "D" key after rebooting without a disk in the drive to run the hardware test. Otherwise, insert one of the DVDs it came with, hold down the "D" key during startup.

  • Is my sound card going out or dammaged?

This may just be my ears or me but how can I detect if my sound card is not flawed or dammaged?
Because when I play sounds files I can hear a very very fant trickle of static... It sounds fine but when it is loud it starts doing that...

I have a new Alu 2.8ghz 24" iMac and appear to be having this problem. It happens when I turn up the sound, so at around 70% of total volume available on the internal speakers the sound goes weird, not distorted, the way I would describe is like the sound is being inverted.

  • Video is going out of sync

So I don't recall any upgrade before this issue began. Upon opening an old fcp project file a few of the tapes appear to have gone slightly out of sync. This is not a gradual sync issue that frequently results from audio rate mismatching. It's like the whole tape is five to ten seconds off from the source audio captured at the same time. The strange thing is that when I render out the video it appears in sync. Also when I use the slip tool the reference frames in the viewer window shows the correct frames as far as I can tell.
What's even more strange is that footage I just captured for a new project seems to be doing the same thing and it only happens on some tapes. Other tapes work fine. Another way around this issue that I've found is to nest the sequence. When nested the correct video plays. It's really weird.
It's been a nightmare to edit. I constantly have to flip back and forth between sequences and the exact edit is always a guess and check process requiring rendering frequently just to see if the cut is correct.
I am and have always been editing 24p advanced footage. None of my settings have changed. This issue popped up out of nowhere.

If you are running FCP 4.5 and OSX 10.4.9, >>THIS THREAD<<</a> may be of interest.

  • Video - dialog goes out of sync with video

When I play Movies or T.V. shows on my iTouch the dialog (or audio) gets out of sync with the video. It starts happening after about 5 minutes of play. I close out of the video, re-open it and it's back in sync again for about another 5 minutes.
I had a second generation iTouch and have just purchased a 3rd gen iTouch and it does it on both. It happens on every movie or t.v. show I watch.
    Any suggestions?

I really appreciate your help. I tried it with the link you provided and it appears it's the wrong format type. The one I'm trying to convert is a .wmv file. I think that link was mainly for mpegs.
I did successfully convert a 3rd movie .wmv file using videora, so I have to think the problem lies with this one movie clip. What could it be? It plays fine on my computer! The video itself is fine after the conversion too, it's just moving too fast as if in fast forward mode. Then when the video ends (before the music, cuz it's not in sync), the video keeps backing up and continuing from later and later previous spots until the song ends.
If you're out of ideas, I guess I'll try to see if I can find the video somewhere else and download it again (I got this video free from a website). It's super cool.. An F-18 pilot video tapes himself performing aerial maneuvers to the song "magic carpet ride". Darn, I REALLY want that on my ipod!!

  • My MPEG video/audio goes out of sync

    Hi
I am importing some MPEG- 2 video clips into Premiere Pro. They are totally in sync before I import them but once in Prmeiere the video and audio are no longer in sync. The format is MPEG-2 video, 1920 x 1080,25fps, 48000hz.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks
    Miranda

    Hi there
Thanks very much, I donwloaded the MediaInfo software.
So the clips came from a Sony NXCam using a Black Magic stem and VMix to record with.
The files are MPEG2 1920 x 1080 as you can see in the screenshot.
The file info in Premiere says they are pixel aspect ratio 1.0
As for codec information, where can I find this?
    Regards

I have not tried reloading FCS.

Hold your horses everyone, I've done it ,Yippee!!
It's all down to Percy, that is perseverance, I do not like to give up.
Under Sequence in the Menu bar I clicked on Sequence Settings. There under Render there is a Render Control tab. I changed the codec from 'Same as Sequence Codec' to 'Apple ProRes 422 [HDV, XDCAM HD/EX/HD422 only]' and everything is back to normal, even the pixelating text (see an earlier post of mine). The rendering is quick as well. The world is my oyster.

  • How do I get my NX6600GT-TD128E (PCIE) video card installed on a K8N NEO4-F Mb ?

First video card turned out to be bad.  The replacement card allows view of bios screens and post screen, but when Windows XP (pro) starts up, the video goes blank and Windows XP locks up dead.
Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get the video card up and running?

  • G4 QuickSilver Video Card Upgrade Advice

Hi all...I have a G4 QuickSilver 2001 867mHz Mac with its factory nVidia GeForce2 MX card in the stages of dying. It crashes the system when I attempt to boot in regular mode and will only start up in safe mode. I am 99.99% sure it is the video card going. It will occasionally boot in regular mode but the graphics become distorted when any graphic intensive action is taken (e.g., menu pulldown, scrolling, etc.) and will eventually hang or a kernal panic occurs. I have ruled out any software issue.
I would like upgrade the card and maybe venture into the world of Motion at some point after I upgrade the processor. I do video editing on FinalCut and DVD StudioPro also. But as you know, under safe mode, all these programs are useless as well as printing.
My question is: What card would you recommend? I am leaning toward a ATI RADEON 9600 PRO PC & MAC 256MB AGP CARD or better. To be honest, I am totally bewildered by the various cards, etc. out there and don't have a clue as to what is recommended and what my machine can accomodate.
Any help you can give I would greatly appreciate it.
    G4 Quicksilver 2001 867mHz   Mac OS X (10.4)   SCSI Card, GeForce2 MX, Internal Zip, 2 60gb Internal HD, 1 120gb external HD, 1.5gb of RAM

Are you able to boot the Hardware Test Disk that
    came
with your system? The Extended Test does a
    thorough
    test of the video card.
If you buy a replacement card be sure you can
    return
it if it doesn't work in your system I recently
    bought a Radeon 9600 pro PC/Mac 256 Mbyte board
    for
my Quicksilver dual 800. Once it got started it
worked fine, but I had to try various combinations
    of
CRT vs LCD monitors on each port to get it
    started.
Then it would drive any combination. If the
    machine
is put to sleep or shut down, it would have no
display again. After a while I could not get it
    to
start at all. A replacement card and a
    replacement
DVI to ADC adapter have not helped. Everything
still works if I reinstall the original GeForce 2
    MX
Twinview card. I have read about others having
similar problems with Quicksilvers and some ATI
    cards.
I suppose it would have been a good thing to mention
the monitor I am using. I have a Viewsonic Q95
Optiquest 20 inch monitor at the moment. It has, i
believe, a VGA connection to the card. I have heard
stories of such problems. Hopefully, someday, I will
upgrade to a G5 machine or at the least a Cinema
    Display. Thanks for your help
    Al
In response to your first question, I have run Hardware Test Disk, as well as TechTool Pro 4's test also...it always indicates the card is fine.

  • Msi 890fxa-g65 and two radeon 6950 video cards

    Hi,
So far I have the one radeon 6950 with the MSI msi 890fxa-g65 motherboard. I was thinking of getting another 6950 down the road and was wondering if anyone was able to fit two 6950 video cards on a msi 890fxa-g65 motherboard.
It seems a bit tight. Also I currently have an Ultra brand 750W PSU. Is that enough?
    Thanks.

Thank for the response. The main impedance is on the motherboard connections for the front panel of the computer case. These pins are located at the bottom of the motherboard where the 6950 video card goes. The pin connections and the wire stick out quite a bit and the video card might crush them a little.
Is there some sort of adapter for those pin connections to make them go on a 90 degree instead of straight out. This is the only impedance to get that video card in really. The case is big enough even though its only a mid -tower.
    Thanks for any help.
Yes, those are you HDD, power and stand-by switch connectors I believe.  Yes, I have seen 90* adapters but I don't remember where.  It might come with the case attachments or a Mobo I put together about a year ago.  In any case, take your existing card and "gentaly" place it into that bottom slot without the pins inserted (mark or draw a little graph as to where those pins go).  See if you still have a little bit of room for your connectors.  Also, what kind of connectors are we talking here?  USB external pins are here to.  If you can live with just the MoBo USB ports, then forget the external USB connection then.  That way, simply put that card in and GO!  Try it out.

  • Sound quits and the video keeps going

When playing movies or TV episodes on the Apple TV 2 the sound will stop randomly, but the video keeps going. I will have to stop the video by going out to the menu and then resume the video to get the sound back.
    Apple TV: v4.4.3
    iTunes: v10.5.1

I found that this is only an issue with files that have bee purchased from iTunes. It is easily reproducable, as it happens in the same spots each time. You can also just rewind the video a little bit and the sound will start again.

  • Best video card for my mac

    Hey,
I just need help finding the best video card for my Powermac g4 fw800. One that my system can use fully. I currently have a Radeon 9000Pro with 64MB. Thanks

    Hi
The ATI 9800-256MB is currently the best card for your system. Actually, there are no other NEW video cards available.
BTW, xlr8yourmac hasn't done a video card review in years, they are just a bulletin board/newsletter now. If you are interested in seeing current testing of available video cards, check out:

According to the comments from users, THIS card is about the best for what the PS can muster.
