Video Card Memory

Is there much difference between an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB and the same card with 256MB when it comes to using FCS2's applications? A friend of mine seems to think the video card doesn't make a huge difference.
Is he right or misled? Can I expect obvious problems if I go with a 8600 with less memory?
Thanks!

It matters more with Motion and FCP's GFX filters - which render using in the graphics engine on the video card. It will also matter if you are driving a 2 monitor setup.

  • Inncorrect video card memory

I have a santa rosa v 3.1 macbook pro. I was wondering how it would hold up to crysis in boot camp, so I went to can you run it, and it said that my system video memory was 512 mb. I bought this when the highest memory possible was 256 mb. So I checked dxdiag in xp and it said the same thing. I was wondering why it is saying this. Is there an sli setup in my laptop that I do not know about? I have not checked it is os x, because I do not know how. I am fairly new to macs.

In OS X, go to the utility called "System Profiler". This is in the "Utilities" folder, or you can get to it by going to the apple menu, then go to "About this Mac" and click the "More Info..." button. The video card information should be under the "Graphics/Displays" section.

  • Cropping Crashes Aperture 3 due to Video Card Memory Leak?

Recently after updating from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 I have been experiencing crashing issues whenever I perform the cropping action.  I see the death of wheel following hitting the return key.  There was one time when the master version itself vaporized into thin air.  I also noticed from the iStat Menus that the issue only occurs when the ATI Radeon HD 2400 memory usage has reach its full capcity.  I quite firefox to release some of the memory then Aperture functions normally until the memory runs out again.  I would then see the death of wheel once again when I crop.
Is Aperture crashing because I need a more powerful video card or is it a memory leak issue with the application?
    Thanks!

What are the common factors between the old and new systems as far as Aperture goes? Not knowing how you migrated from the old to the new the only  thing we can say for certain is that the library is identical.
So have you run the basic library first aid steps? Another thing to try is to create a new empty library, put an image into it and try cropping it and see what happens.
Let us know what happens after those steps,

I migrated everything from the old computer to the new.  I also tried creating a new library and the issue persists.  I've also tried the First Aid options all of 'Repair Permission, Repair Database, and Rebuild Database' none of which worked.  I've also tried reinstalling Aperture and it crashes on the first crop.
I will need to be editing many photos in a few weeks and now I'm stuck with this issue.. HELP!!!!!!!
It seems like others have run into the same issue also but no solutions!!
Why is aperture 3.1 crashing after cropping images, any one else?

  • Video Card Memory Allocation Issue with SW:TOR

I am attempting to run SW:TOR on a duel-boot iMac running both iOS X Lion (10.7.2) and Windows 7 via Boot Camp.  I have the game installed on the Windows 7 side, but because it is an iMac, my video card (ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB) is integrated.
The error I receive is of course general and non descriptive beyond "your computer does not meet the system requirements for the game" but all performance tests I have ran blow away all the minimum recommended requirements.
It looks like it is narrowed down to VRAM and the application is not seeing all of the 512 MB.
I've already updated all drivers, trying various combinations between Mac, MS, an Component OEM recommendations.
Any suggestions on what I can look at / check?
Or, since I am in the Windows 7 side, would this question be more approptiatly placed on some Microsoft forum?

Quick time istalled on the Windows side?  That got me up and running.
    Good luck.

  • PS CS5 claims my video cards have zero memory, no GPU access!

    Hi folks
Firsrt post here. I hope some one can assist as I have been dealing with this issue for few days now. My hard drive died last week...had to reinstall everything. Now, for some reason Photoshop refuses to enable OpenGL access even though before I was able to use Photoshop with same video cards. I have reinstalled the app multiple times, reset prefs many times, installed various versions of my video card drivers (right now I am on the latest drive). I checked Adobe and NVidia sites and my cards are listed as supported. I checked Device driver (shows cards installed ok) and Windows sees my cards and I check Direct X diagnostics and it sees my cards memories.
    Here are my specs:
    Windows Vista 32
2 x NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX (have a 512 memory each, not running SLI)
    4 Gigs of RAM
    2 x 500 Gig WD drives
    Wacom Cintiq as second display
I know my OpenGL works because I am able to run Modo fine. I checked in Device Manager and all seems ok.

Update the video card driver, and if that doesn't work - talk to NVIdia.

  • After Effects is NOT using the full Twelve GB of memory on my Mac Pro late 2013 dual video cards

I would like to know if there is a reason why AE CC12 and CC13 (2014) is not using the full amount of video card memory on my MP late 2013. It's six GB per freaking card I invested in and its not accessing it.
Is there a work around this issue?

Why shouldn't it. When I upgraded to this new Mac Pro late 2013 with its dual video cards. Premier turned into a blasting fast editor. I no longer need to render my edited cuts and the scrubbing of preview and timeline footage is phenomenal. The only performance boost I've seen in AE with this new system is in rendering and I can't even say its double as fast in comparison to Premier or Encoder and its an 8-Core system with 32GB of ram. Everything else is flying.
So again to answer your why should it. I rebuttal with "Why shouldn't it". The other two mentioned programs are using GPU resources to improve performance why is AE so behind the curve.
I'm not the only one asking why. I was in the audience at a Dmala meeting here in LA with Todd Kopriva and Al Mooney previewing AE and Premier 2014.
People kept asking Todd about performance boost in between questions about new features. Todd finally just asked what do you prefer a couple of new features or performance boost. Everyone wanted performance boost over new features. If you think I'm making this up go ask Todd Kopriva.

  • XFX Raedon Video Card unrecognized

Have new H405 with Windows 7 Home Premium. When I install an XFX Radeon HD 5450 in the slot and boot up, nothing comes on the screen (was previously using this same card on a Dell Inspiron 530 S to enable to monitors and it worked fine). Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mpippa

No, video card memory and system memory are completely independent of each other
Why do you need a new video card? What do you primarily use your system for? If you don't play any games, you may as well just stick with the onboard Geforce4 VGA, unless you need the 6200 for DVI or HD outputs
As far as TV cards go, I see you are in Canada, I don't know much about what TV signals you have over there, so you'd best  explain how you currently receive TV signals (through your aerial, through a set-top box) for better advice

  • How can I tell what video card and how much video memory does my iMac have?

How or where can I find out: which video card does my iMac have and how much video memory does it have? I've tried looking in System profiler, but I did not see it there. Thank you.

Once you open System Profiler there should be a line called "memory" which is the RAM (vs. hard drive size which is not what is called memory), e.g., Memory: 1.5 GB
For video click on the line Graphics/Displays and look at the chipset line, e.g., Chipset Model: GeForce2 TwinView
Kappy's instructions are handy for checking the original configuration of your computer, but that may have been changed at some time, especially if you bought it secondhand.

  • X58 PRO won't boot (memory or video card issue???)

    Hi all,
this is my first message here.
I have recently bought a X58 PRO motherboard to which I have connected the following devices: one HD, one DVD, the CPU (i7 950), one Video Card (GeForce 6600 pci-express) and three DDR3 modules from Corsair (named CMT6GX3M3A2000C8). According to Corsair website the modules CMT6GX3M3A2000C8 run on thie X58 PRO.
I have turned on the system, but the screen remains black and the motherboard issues an intermittent buzz sound.
    Besides:
The led close to the pci-express (where the video card is connected) is on.
The 5 CPU leds are all turned on.
The led close to the memory socket is off.
As far as I know, usually the intermittent buzz means that the motherboard doesn't recognize either the RAM or the video card, but I don't know if the buzz is different case by case (can be buzz be different according to the issue?) and in the manual I didn't find a troubleshotting chapter.
Is there a way which allow me to better identify where the issue would be (in memory or in Video Card... or something else)?
I have not tested neither the memory nor the video card on another system, thus I don't know if one of them is faulty.
    Can anyone please help me?
    many thanks in advance!
    Lorenzo

    Do a CMOS clear>>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Only insert one mem module. Check all your power connections to the board/s again that they are secure. You may want to reseat your CPU and check carefully that all the contact pads on the CPU do have imprints.
Ok, I'll try it this evening!
In the meanwhile, I thank you.

  • Amouth of memory allocated to video card

Sorry for any misspellings....but I am looking into a game. The guy says I need 128mb of memory for my video card to play the game right. How much does my MacBook 1.83 1GB provide?

I may be wrong, but I'm sure I've read on here somewhere that the MB will steal more memory than the stated 64MB if required, as long as it doesn't detriment the application being run at the time.
Try having a look at earlier threads concerning MB video capabilities, or gaming on the MB, its definately there somewhere.
Further to this thread, I'm running Halo:combat evolved on my 1.83mhz macbook with the stock 512MB memory, considering it's running in the 'Rosetta' PowerPC emulation environment it seems to run fine with all details turned to 'low' or 'off', and running in the 800 x 600 screen. I've installed the latest patch for Halo from 'macsoft', and I play my mates online, no problem!
I've also seen video clips posted on the MB discussion forums of 'Call of duty 2' (universal) running perfectly well.

  • Onboard video card with shared memory??

Congratulations Apple on the new Intel-based Mac Mini! I was patiently waiting the arrival of a faster version of the Mini.
However, I've noticed one horrible mistake. The Intel GMA950 graphics card is attached to the motherboard? What? Apple has decided to make there affordable systems even less gamer-friendly?
So what you're saying is that if you want to play World of Warcraft or any of the few powerful games designed for the Mac, you must purchase a system that is at least $1,300?
I just bought a Dell for $250 that runs World of Warcraft and other games rather smoothly. Hmm, lets see, $200 or $1,300? Which would you rather spend?
Seriously though, Apple needs to sit down and rethink there strategy for the gamers industry.
How about offering a system that has at least a 64MB video card (at least meet the MINIMUM latest game requirements) and is affordable (say under $1,000 even)?
The Apple Macintosh is indeed the Cadillac or Mercedes of personal computing when it comes to looks. But PCs are readily becoming more attractive (especially when comparing performance rating and prices).

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card is conflicting with additional memory

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I have a 645E Max motherboard (MS-6547). I recently purchased a 512MB dimm of Kingston PC2700 Cas 2.5 memory (KVR333X64C25/512) to go with the the 256MB dimm of the same model # above. I installed the memory and my screen stays blank. When I remove the new dimm it runs fine. I did get the memory and the motherboard tested at the store where I got the motherboard and they work fine. I came to the conclusion it was my video card when I removed all my components except the memory and the video card, and turned on the machine, nothing. I did try swiching dimm location and changing any bios settings I thought would make it work. I tried updating the video card drivers and motherboard AGP drivers. If anybody had this problem in the past could you tell me how you got it to work.

I took the board and the 2 dimms to the store where I bought them.  They hooked up both dimms and a video card to the board.  When it was powered up, both dimms were recognized.  After I got home I proceded to determine if another component it conflicting with the memory.  I started with both dimms and my video card the Radeon.  I powered up with no other hardware connected and the screen remains blank.  I remove the 512MB dimm and leave the 256MB dimm in, and powered up and pc booted up normally.

  • Increase memory of video card???

    hello
I have macbook with 2 gb of rams and 256 mb of video ram ,,, If I upgrade ram to 4 gb, does video ram will increases to 512 mb or still 256mb?
Does macbook supports 6gb of rams,,, I read from some forums it support 6gb as (2gb-4gb)???
    sorry for bad english

    cph2133 wrote:
No you can't have 6 GBs of RAM (2+4) I believe the ram size has to be identical for the two cards 1+1 or 2+2. At least that's how it was with my old dell so I assume it's a ram thing not a computer thing.
This is incorrect, you can have a 4+2 for a total of 6GB. I did read an article in MacWorld that stated the MacBook won't take advantage of 6GB right now, but it will operate and report 6GB.
Also, the video card won't use anymore than what the card is rated to use despite increasing your RAM size.
