Video Card Question. Crossfire 7950s vs One GTX780

Which is the better option for video editing on Adobe Premiere CC? I have the crossfire 7950's now but only one is installed since i would have to buy a new power supply. With the price drop on the NVIDIA GTX 780 I might pick up one of those and sell my 7950's, to avoid buying the power supply.
I tried looking up which is more efficient for Adobe CC and could not find anything comparing the two. If anyone knows anything or has recomendations, I would really appreciate it! Thank you in advance.

If you do decide to go with one GTX 780 be aware that nVidia is announcing a new high end card that is called the GTX 780 Ti and it is supposed to be delivered mid-month. It will have a base price of $699 and be faster than the current top card the GTX Titan. That will lead to lower prices on the GTX 780
As far as supporting two GPU's that is true for Premiere 7 (CC) So far we have no comparison data on nVidia versus AMD/ATI.

Considering a refurbished 24" Imac ... video card question?

I've been a lifelong Microhell Winblows user and am finally ready to move over to an Apple. I don't have a lot of money to drop on a Mac Pro with a separate screen so I've been thinking either a 20" or 24" iMac. Then, of course, bumping it to 4 gigs of RAM. My question is the video card. I occassionally play with Photoshop and Illustrator (for web site design). I watch DVDs and play some games.

OK. One more question (if you don't mind). They are not made to be user upgradeable. I'm ok with that. Do you know if the motherboard and/or system will accept a larger video card if I have it done by an Apple technician?

Receiving New iMac Free - Video Card Question

Much to my relief, Apple is replacing my 2008 24" iMac after I have brought it in to them 3 times for the same issue in a month (failure to startup, they have replaced two video cards, one MLB, and the display but the problem repeats itself within 1-2 weeks). They are replacing it with a newer model that has a 27" display, twice the ram (4 GB) and twice the HD space (1 TB). My question is about the video card in the new iMac, it is a ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 256 MB, and the card in my old iMac was a NVIDIA 8800 GS with 512 MB. My primary application for my iMac is gaming, which I believe makes the video card the most important component. Does anyone know the difference between 256 and 512 or anything about this new card? Should I ask them if I can pay to upgrade to the Radeon HD 4850 512 MB before I go in to pick up my new iMac?

I had the exact same problem... my 18month old 24" iMac (with 512MB Video card) went belly up.
I pointed out that what they wanted to offer me had only the 256Mb Card ? ....and he said; "oops I didn't notice that"... so we will send your new 27" iMac - with a 512MB (ATI 4850) at no charge,
So... buddy you just need to tell them - and they will configure your replacement 27" to equal or better the minimum specification of your faulty unit.

Video card question for new iMac

Howdy all,
I'm about to order a new BTO iMac, and I'm wondering if somebody could give me feedback on the two different video cards available.
Cost is not really a concern here (I would rather spend more on the video card and cut back on something like RAM for now because RAM can be upgraded later). My main concern is performance and the best image quality.
I understand the NVidia would be faster for 3D gaming than the ATI - which I would use a little bit. So the NVidia would seem to be a no-brainer.
However, I've heard a couple people (on various forums) state that although the NVidia is definitaly faster for gaming - it performs slower than the ATI at some tasks like iMovie and iDVD tasks and text scrolling and motion are not as good.
For me, I would love to have the faster 3D gaming speed of the NVidia for the few times I do game...but the most important thing to me is image quality for things like photo and video editing, working with documents etc. Are any of these thoughts regarding the NVidia vs ATI true?
Does anybody have any advice regarding the performance these two cards? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I had the 20" 2.16 (late 2006 model) with the x1600 128MB and now have the 24" 2.8 2600Pro 256MB and 2G stock RAM. It's night and day with Call of Duty 2. I am able to play COD2 in 16:9 mode, all graphic settings max'd out and the fps? Wow! One most maps it ranges between 190-270fps! That smokes the previous version of 40-90fps. One the most complex maps my 24" drops to 90-110 range. Seriosuly, anything above about 60fps is perfectly playable! I'm thrilled with the stock card. However, COD2 is older, I play it native in OS X and do not game in boot camp. That may change a few things.

After the update to Mountain Lion my imac frezes evry time and i have to reboot the system.
I also read that many people have this issue.
after i chanced my opptical drive for an sdd, the problems almost vanished
but .....its still there,
I read on the Apple support site that the imac 24 inch 2009 with a processor 3.06mHz can also use the videocard
ATI Radeon 4850 512 MB so i bought it in the state's Put it in my mac. make a clean install..........and still see preferences the G Force 130 from Nvidea.
why cant i see the new one. what am i doing wrong? also can't find any driver for mac.

LOL !!! You are too funny. About the "smoking crack" thing though, that's what I felt I went through for many years when my cards stopped working and having to 1) replace, 2) work, 3) break down and repeat the same process, until I started building things on my own. Even still I built my own machine, it does come with it's own issues, but now I'm in more control of those issues at 1/3 the cost and the same speed (if not faster) and that's my WHOLE POINT So when are you going to stop being tired of 3 step process of how Graphics Cards work on a Mac? You know the definition of "insanity" right? I don't think I need to define it for you. Later all...

Video Card questions

I'm wondering what would make a computer that is working fine one day come up the next with a "signal out of range" problem. I just repartitioned and reformatted and reinstalled win98se all over. I'm using an MSI GeForce 2 pro but I'm using the windows drivers right now. If I change to the msi drivers that came with the card I'll get to up my resolution and color palette but in a few days I know when I turn it on it'll come up with a "signal out of range". Could this be caused by a bad video card or bad drivers or some strange compatability issue I haven't figured out yet?

It's a ctx. About 2 years old, maybe 3. I know when I get the signal out of range I can go back in safe mode and change the refresh rate to default and I'll get it back. But I believe when I use a different monitor I still get the same troubles. I can check this night to see if I get it on my vx1120 monitor. It's been a wonderful monitor and it's strange that I'm getting this trouble. Why would the refresh rate be okay one second and too high the next? I just checked the refresh rate from the monitor and it gives me(at 640X480) H:31.5 KHZ and V:60.3 HZ. Thanks for replying.

G5 Quad and dual video card question

I purchased the Quad with the 7800 GT..I originally had 2 monitors on the one card. In doing so you are splitting the Vram into 125 meg per monitor..I don't want that since my CGI demands require more screen redraw from my working monitor..so I purchased another card for my pallet monitor..the 6600LE but some (core image effect not sure) don't work..i.e...the ripple effect
is there something about the 6600 LE that doesn't allow all of apples desktop eyecandy to work?

That's interesting. The 6600 should support core image and everything else that it needs to. That's one of the cards Apple ships with the G5s. You have the 6600 in the eight lane slot right?
Perhaps it is something screwy with the way multiple video cards are handled?
If you want to try an experiment you could swap the 7800 and the 6600. Put the 6600 into the 16 lane slot and put the 7800 in the 8 lane slot. See if the 7800 then won't show the ripple effect.

Dual 2.5ghz G5 video card questions

I've read a bunch of posts on replated subjects, but I've enough of a newbie at this to not be sure I'm undertanding all of it.
I have a Dual 2.5ghz G5 with a ATI Radeon 9600 XT video card.
I want to get a 30" display. While I don't play games I will be using Aperture, which seems to work better with a faster video card. Ideally I'd like to be able to also drive a 15" lcd on the side as well, but this is not a necessity.
I've found two in stock at various places. Can anyone tell me if one or both of these would work? And if one would be a much better performer?

The first card needs to be the ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition Graphics AGP 8x 256 MB DDR - The G5 Edition. The one you have posted is not the 'Special' G5 Edition.
The second one needs to be a Mac Edition also:
RADEON X800 XT Mac Edition.
The 9800 is much faster than a 9600. The X800 is the fastest video card made for the Mac AGP, very good card.

Photoshop CS6 / Video Cards Question

I am purchasing a new computer and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on whether nVidia or AMD would be better for use with Photoshop CS6. In my previous computers, I've only ever had an integrated video card and they worked okay enough with Photoshop. But now I have the opportunity to purchase a computer with an nVidia/2 Gig Vram or an AMD Radeon/1 gig VRAM video card.
This is very generalized since I know so much depends on the cpu speed, ram, whether or not you have multiple hard drives, etcetera.
I've got a clear idea of what I want for all the other components of the computer, but I have no working knowledge of video cards.
I use Photoshop for photo editing and I also want to eventually use it for High Definition Photography editing.
FYI, I don't do any gaming.

I usually recommend ATI over nVidia, just because over the past few years as an OpenGL software developer myself I've seen better driver quality from AMD (ATI), but I don't know that past experience is an indication of current performance... Right now today ATI driver quality has slipped a little, while nVidia's has gotten better.
That said, my most recent purchase was a VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 7850 card. A 7750, at about half the price, probably would have done fine, but I figure the 2 GB onboard RAM makes the 7850 a bit more future-proof.
Something important to think about when choosing a video card is this: Watch how much electrical power they need. Video cards, because they have very fast processors, tend to require a lot of wattage and make a lot of heat, and many computers simply don't have the capacity to provide an extra hundred watts of power to a video card, nor exhaust the heat very well, so adding a power-hungry card could destabilize your system or cause heat problems. Something like the Radeon 7750 has a very low power draw. NVidia has some low power models as well, no doubt, but I'm not as familiar with the models.
Photoshop loves working with a video card that scores 1000 or higher on this chart:

I want to upgrade my video card, I currently have a 7300 gt, and my mac pro is a 2007. Will any video card that uses the same type of pci slot work or does the card have to be specially made for macs. Also what would be the best upgrade for my mac, i read the 8800 gtx wont work, will radeon 2600 work?

Yes, the video card has to be made to work with Mac Pros and I upgraded my 2007 Mac with the 2600 XT and it works great. A version of the 8800 is suppose to be in the works, but a release date is unknown.

When using a single monitor, does the addition of more video cards enhance the power of graphics? Do video cards work in parallel like a multi-processor graphic engine?

ATI FireGL v3350 video card or buy a new one?

I just got a new computer and am going to be using premiere for video editing. The video card is the ATI FireGL v3350. Is this sufficient to produce quality videos? Obviously new to this. Also, if not what replacement video card should be purchased?

The video card won't affect the quality of the videos at all. You should be fine with that card.

Dual Video Cards question

Hi, I have just ordered a new Mac pro with 2 Nvdia GT 120 video cards.
I was wondering does Mac OS and Windows 7 64bit running on Bootcamp make use of both video cards?
The reason I bought the 2 cards option was that I also wanted to play a few windows based games and thought 2 cards would be better than the single ATI video card.
Or is currently the single ATI the best option?

At this stage I know that a single NVidia video card will be enough for my work using Mac OS so not that bothered about getting the output of both cards whilst using OS.
But would be interested to know if within Windows I can take advantage of both. its not arrived yet so I will guess i will have to see if windows regonises and use both cards. mainly i was trying to save money on not having to buy a seperate pc for games if the bootcamped windows was adequate (want to play FFXIV - online game)
Ran the benchmark for the game on a mac pro 8core using the latest ATi card here at work and that ran very smoothly though only scoring 2100 (1500 seems to be the minimum needed) good pcs score 3-4k. though as it did run smoothly and looked very nice i figured 2 nvdia would improve that even more.

Someone also mentioned that i could potentially put in any compatible video card in to the mac to run windows apps. though not sure if the mac would see it.
