I have AE CC 2014. My Ram preview and rendering is faster with my old system than my new one. Im missing something. Checked a bunch of utube tuts but no real change. Anywhere I can find settings to get my system smoking? Thanks

when installing ATI Catalist v5.9 (the latest), it configures the card at agp speed: OFF.
in the bios, all i have for agp speed is: AGP 8x - enable/disable.

Since I have made an upgrade of Photoshop CC 2014 I got a lot of problems.
At first, I could not open any pictures in Photoshop. It works only if I disable "Use Graphic processor". I installed a new driver for my video-card, but it did not help. I use AMD FirePro V4800 for 10-bit colour.
I had to return the system to the restore point (before the upgrade), then it worked somehow, but not stable. ACR from time to time had a blue screen with a white cross.
Now I tried to install drivers for my video-card again, but it resulted in the same issue: Photoshop cannot open any photo. (Other converters and editors and also a new Lightroom work well).
I use Win7x64, i7 2600, 16 Gb RAM, two SSD's, AMD FirePro V4800. I have never had any problems before the upgrade. And I do not want to reinstall Photoshop because I would have to reinstall a lot of plug-ins, I have already lost a whole day.Glad it's not just me!
Interestingly, when I spoke with Apple, I tried it in a new user account and the problem went away. Apple said to speak to Adobe which I have done and after deleting settings/prefs again the problem remained. Adobe say as it's fine in a new account then it's an Apple issue not Adobe.
I did find a workaround for now though, when using file - open, set it to list view instead of column view - this fixed my problem but sadly I'm used to working in column view so it's not ideal!
I also got the same error message when trying to replace a set of brushes yesterday too. I need to go back to Apple now but just need to schedule some time to sit and troubleshoot! -
What video card do I need to make Photoshop CC 2014 to use 3D? I have NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB graphics.
A couple of questions:
1. Have you tried resetting your preferences?
2. If you go to Preferences > Performance - is "Use Graphics Processor" enabled? If not, can you select it?
Your system should be fine to support 3D in PS CC 2014. Once I have more information from you we can move onto next steps if necessary.

Those who can advise which processor speed and video card ...
Configuring MP...
Would appreciate any feedback on which processor speed... for photo editing apps., I keep open a few at a time, and some final cut express which I close any photo editing apps, and then of course in the b/g the mail, safari, etc.
Anyone can advise now if theirs is too much or not enough?
Also, will the 4870 make a big difference compared to the 120 stock card in my applications?

Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2.3 are the fastest I've ever seen run. I tested a photo with my 2.5 GHz G5 quad using a 12 MB RAW file and radial blur filter is PS. The G5 took 48 seconds, the new MP took 7.7 seconds. Radial blur in a processor intensive filter, so I thought it was a good comparison of processor speed. The sliders in LR are smooth with no hesitation.
I was told not to "waste money" on the upgraded video card but research in the Adobe forums suggest that PS CS5 will take advantage of the video cards power. I purchased it for the future upgrades. I also edit some video so the card will help with Final Cut Pro. I'm using dual 23" ACD monitors, I had to buy a DVI/mini display adapter for $30 for the second display.
Exporting is 2-3 times faster.
I ordered it with one 640GB HD. I addded three 1TB WD Caviar Black HDs before I even turned it on. The best price on the drive was Amazon.
I was using the G5 with 250GB and 500GB HDs and using Time Machine connected to a 1TB external G Drive. I connected the G Drive to the new MP before turning it on. The MP asked "Do you want to transfer using Time Machine, I clicked yes. It took about 40 minutes to transfer all of the programs, system settings, including the Wacom Tablet. I used my iPhone to sync adn it set up email, bookmarks, podcasts, etc.
So far I'm very happy with the computer. -
Speeding up Rendering in LR3: Faster Processor or Better Video Card?
I'm currently running a MacPro with 2 Dual-Core Xeons at 2.66 GHz and 7 GB of RAM. I upgraded a while ago to an ATI Radeon HD 3870 video card.
I'm a professional photographer who is wondering what would give me the best LR3 rendering speed bump for my buck. Should I...
1. Add more RAM?
2. Upgrade my Video Card? (If so, which one?)
3. Start from scratch with a faster Mac?
4. All of the above?
I'm looking for any information that would show me real world measurements using LR3. I'm NOT looking for philosophical discussions or speculation. Has anyone seen a test that I could read, or information source that compares different systems rendering identical content in LR3? Concrete help (rather than speculation) would be appreciated.

The Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB is an absolute bargain and for real world speed only SD is faster and then only if the OS is on the SD. I got one recently for video editing and stuck my LR catalog on it, a definite noticeable speed increase over other hard drives of a similar spec (although I have heard nasty stuff about them failing early...so back up obviously. I also have a big fast video card for video editing, that sits there doing absolutely nothing when using LR...so unless you edit video or like playing games, don't bother. Processor comparisons here. With your set up you are going to have to invest in a top of the range MAC with an i 7 to benefit anything significant. More RAM won't hurt but may not get used by LR. More RAM and a i7 processor will ensure the RAM actually gets used.

Just curious. Have you done any measurements on the Samsung? Say with SpeedTools for the Mac? I'm just wondering what the read/write speeds are across eSATA connection vs. any of the others.. I know a lot can vary from one machine to another, but I was just asking on your machine how it compared with a measured result to another brand. Like you say, the specs are very similar to other drives.

Dual video cards and render speed
Will two video cards render Motion content faster than a single card? More specifically, will dual cards help when the Motion files are used directly in FCP? Using Motion 2.1.2 and FCP 5.1.4
It depends on the graphics card driver. In the past, some cards, because of the way the driver was written, would divide available VRAM between two monitors. Over time though, drivers have gotten better, and this limitation is fading away. Even though, being that your graphics card has to render both the GUI for your OS (which is now loaded with effects as well) and Motion, keeping your screen real estate reasonable will allow your card to devote more resources to your project. Every pixel has to be rendered somewhere, whether its your project or the twenty translucent widgets you have loaded into your dashboard.
You won't see a "boost" by adding more VRAM, any more that you will see one by adding more system RAM. An increase in RAM equates to greater calculation space within which to work. For Motion this will show up as the ability to process more layers and real-time effects before a RAM preview is needed.

My 27" iMac will not boot in normal mode. The screen stays white. The computer will boot in safe mode. Could this be virus related or is it possibly an issue with my video card. Before this happened, my computer screen was flashing weird things and the computer would unexpectedly power down.
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Photoshop cs5-no video card detected in GPU settings
Running photoshop cs5 on a new iMac 27in with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M video card. Under performance preferences GPU settings is not detecting the card. What do i need to fix??

Running the same system here with the Geforce GTX 775m. Currently running OS 10.9.5. Photoshop CC 2014 shows no GPU detected under Preferences and all video card related options are disabled. I've tried installing nVidia's web driver, but it's not compatible, unfortunately. The 10.9.5 update hasn't helped either and I haven't found any further driver update from Apple.
Is there a way to force detection or manually specify video card specs?

Dual Video Cards, Premiere won't load
Hi, I recently installed a second video card on my system running Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014. I know have two Geforce GT 640s running in my machine. My single GT 640 was running fine, however I recently added a third monitor to my setup and noticed playback wasn't quite as smooth as when I was running only two monitors. However, when trying to boot up Premiere with the second card installed, it freezes and crashes everytime. After I disable the second card Premiere loads fine. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? (Please not I am not running the cards in SLI).

I've been very happy with the performance of the GT 640. It really has worked well with all my projects (mostly h264 footage in 4 0 0 shot on my 60D). The speed with which the Mercury Engine Renders everything in Premiere and Media Encoder has been excellent. However, when I started using a third monitor (plugged into the HDMI port on the 640) I started to notice a SLIGHT drop in performance. I thought the increased CUDA cores being made available from a second card could help ease the load and speed things up again.
My build is a few years old: i7 950 @ 3.07 GHz. 24 GB Ram installed, now running Windows 8.1 off of a 256GB SSD. Capture Drive is a 500 GB SSD. I recently moved this build into a new case and need to upgrade my power supply so I can add the rest of my drives to the build, but most likely I'll be once again striping two 500gb drives into a RAID 0 array for my media cache.
I'm going to play a bit with the settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel and report back. If anyone has any further suggestions please chime in. Thanks again for your help so far everyone.

MSI NEW P.E. Series Video Card - GTX670 Power Edition 2GD5/OC with Twin Frozr 4
Glad to be back in the forum and I was been busy for awhile. By this time lots of PC hardware already came out especially from Nvidia. Just like today my share would be MSI's N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC video card.
First of all lets talk about the GTX670 GPU chip. This GPU is the younger sibling of GTX680 which uses the same 28nm GK104 chip but with one disabled shader cluster/core.The reference or standard GPU clock is 915Mhz with a turbo boost of 980 and as for the memory is concerned, it has a 256bit memory bus connected to a 2GB GDDR5 memory with speed of 6008Mhz. Just like with any Kepler based architecture, the card would also have all the goodies like "Adaptive V-Sync", "AA TXAA (Temporal Super Sampling)", supports "DX11.1" and improved 3D Vision Surround.
Moving on, let's check out now what MSI did with their GTX670 SKU based video card. The card is under a new Series named "Power Edition" (series comparison table below) and it comes factory overclocked from GPU clock of 915MHz to 1020MHz and Turbo boost of 980Mhz to 1080Mhz. It also comes with the 4th version of Twin Frozr Thermal Cooling design with a theme color of Black and Blue which matches the color of MSI's midrange to high-end motherboards as well. The dual 8cm PWM fan based cooler are equipped with Propeller Fan Blades which draws air better and now has the so called "Dust Removal Technology", basically as you startup your PC the fan will rotate counter clockwise for 30 seconds clearing the dust from the cooling heatsink. Adding a finishing touch, MSI equipped the video card with their Military Class III components ensuring the best performance, efficiency, higher overclocks and durability.

Genius needs to help! problems with my video card and system
Hey guys! I'm going to post my specs first so that you get a good idea of what I'm running on:
MSI Neo2 LS 865PE.....MAT=Slow
Pentium4 2.4C.....FSB=233=2.8C hyperthreading enabled ~>1.55V
Corsair TwinX 1gig PC3700.....memory on "AUTO" in BIOS with timings at 3,4,4,8 ~> 2.7V

1:I've had this motherboard for a few months now. I upgraded my video card from a nVidia Ti4200(128meg) to a Radeon 9800 a month ago, but I couldn't get it working at 8X AGP, no matter what voltages I threw at it. I returned it for a Radeon 9700NP hoping that it would work, but it still won't.
I'm using BIOS 1.9 and since there is no option to select your AGP speed, I could only try using ATI's drivers. Once booted into Windows, there is a slider you can move to select you AGP speed. On my machine It says that It has performed some tests and has concluded that AGP 4x is the best for my system....but my system supports AGP 8X!
I've moved the slider over to 8x (which requires a reboot) at least 5 times with each card but the slider refuses to move past 4xAGP after the reboot.
2: My second problem: I had an old stick of KingMax PC3200 and decided to buy 3 more sticks. Unfortunatly, the 3 I bought did not match the one I had, so I only put 2 of the new sticks I bought into my system. Immediatly, My system would crash, lock up, files were corrupt, and I got PLENTY of blue screens of death with a long message containing: 0x0000007 with all these other numbers and "0"s. I did a search online and found out I had a hardware incompatibility problem. I never got this with my old stick of ram.
I returned the 3 sticks of Ram and replaced them with the Corsair. Put my new Radeon 9700 in, formatted my hard drive....and within 24 hours, my system locked up 3 times, rebooted itself 5 times, and gave me the same BSOD as mentioned above with the same long message.
I didn't change anything except for the memory and the video card. I've been wanting to overclock, (thats why i bought the faster memory ) but I'm not sure what to do at this point.
I have my FSB at 233 but I'm scared to go any higher because of previous system instability at stock speeds. My RAM was running on 400 and MAT=Turbo with the most relaxed timings at 3,4,4,8.
I've given myself hours of sleepless nights formatting when my system wouldnt boot into windows; overclocking....etc. I NEED HELP. PLEASE. PLEASE. Anything could work at this point.
I'm trying to get more info on how to run my system at a 5:4 ratio, also.
If anyone has problems like me or knows what could be the problem with my system, please reply to this post, it would help me a lot. I want to clear some things before my first post makes everyone confused.
1- I have only 2 sticks of memory in my system: the Corsair PC3700 TwinX 512x2
I returned the 3 KingMax I bought, and still keep my old stick just in case.
2- I am using the 400 watt power supply that came with the case. I read some reviews of the case and I know the reviewer did not have problems with the power supply. In my BIOS, there are some voltages it is weak on. Lets say: it it should be 5.00+, my power supply will be feeding it 4.96v or something like that, but I dont know, or think, that is a major problem...
3- My computer will refuse to boot if memory speeds are set at anything below 400. SO....if I want to use a 5:4 ratio and have to set my memory speeds to "333" in BIOS, my system refuses to boot.
4- This morning, I did manage to overclock my FSB to 250. Specs are as follow:
Memory Timing @3,4,4,8,4.....speed set at "AUTO".....MAT at "SLOW"
MY 2.4C's FSB was raised to 250 = 3.0gig
AGP/PCI frequency: 67.xx/3x.xx (cant go any lower)
CPU voltage: 1.5500
Memory voltage: 2.75
Video Card voltage: 1.7
Everything was fine for the whole day until I heard something click in my computer around midnight, and then seconds later, my computer froze and made a continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. (you can imagine)
This "click" and system crash has been plaguing me for months now. I dont know whay it happens. I was just using AIM when I heard the click and my heart stopped.
My memory speeds have been set to "AUTO" even at the FSB of 250. But I don't know if this still means my system is at a 1:1 ratio. I know the BIOS then adjusts the memory to work at 500 if my FSB is 250...so I assume it is? I love 3gig, but somehow I feel that 2.8 is faster, since the FSB=233 running parallel to my memory, also at 233
A FSB of 250 is good enough for me, that's what I've been waiting 6 months for. If anyone knows how to set other ratios to achieve a FSB of 250+, please let me know, but as I said, my memory won't boot if its set at "333"
