Video card troubles 8(

I just recently bought a Levono H215 computer.
I do some light gaming and the computer seemed like a decent buy. After about a week I decided I needed a better video card then the integrated card had to offer. A friend of mine had an extra Geforce 9800 GT that he wasn't using so he gave it to me.
I installed the card and upon booting up the system all I got was  ablack screen on my monitor. I pressed the monitor button and got the message "No Signal". After trying several different things to solve the issue, a friend suggested I get a new power supply. The power supply the system came with was max power of 280 watts.
I ordered a new 500 watt power supply thinking that maybe the Geforce card was not getting enough power. My new power supply arrived today, and it installed o problem.
I once again put the Geforce card in booted up the computer and got the same results..solid black screen. Pushing the power button results in "NO Signal" message.
The monitor hooks in to the video card with a vga cable..but the vid card has only a dvi and hdmi slot to plug it in. So I am using a VGA-DVI adapter to hook it in.
I am at my wits end..does anyone know how I can get this working?

Check the bios. The settings may be on onboard only. I have also seen some GPU's not load until Windows is loading. So use the onboard GPU to check the BIOS settings.

  • 655 Max FISR SATA & Video Card Troubles

    Hi all
I put together my 655 Max FISR (non HT) based system 3 weeks ago and have had nothing but problems (this is the third PC I've built and it's the only one to have caused major problems).  Initially the memory and video card were problematic, stopping me from installing Windows XP, but having read some of the other threads the poor old 655 seems to have lots of problems with various components.
My motherboard hated the Crucial Technology PC3200 512Mb memory (CT6464Z40B) I put in DIMM 1 and the MSI 5600U VTD-128 video card.  Anyway suffice to say I solved the problems easily enough.  I swapped the memory and the video card  over with that in my MSI 645e Max U (the video card was a Connect 3D Radeon 7500 for info).  The 645 runs beautifully with no problems whatsoever, unlike the 655!
I've now upgraded the Radeon 7500 to a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT which works really well. So if you are having problems with a card based on an nVidia chipset (which Win XP keeps saying has drivers that don't pass the compatability test) I'd try the ATI cards.
My main problem now is with the two Western Digital SATA drives I've got setup in a RAID 0 array.
Firstly I'm getting poor disk transfer rates (I used the SiSoftware Sandra utility to benchmark the file system, and got a really poor 23Mb/s).  As an example Windows XP loads up in 1 minute 8 seconds from power on, unlike the 645 with a 80Gb Maxtor DiamondMax 9 which does it in 45 seconds - I was getting Windows up in 32 seconds after initial installation of XP!!!  Now I know I've got PC2100 memory in this machine, but it seems to have got slower since I did a driver and Windows XP update (hope this isn't anything to do with the I've downloaded).
The second problem is a bit more serious, one of my Raptor drives keeps dropping off line when I run either the error checking or defragmentation tools in Windows.  The computer shuts down and re-boots only to tell me there's been a problem (a drive has failed or disconnected) before asking for a boot floppy. Fortunately, if I delete then redefine the array I get the system up and running again, but it is annoying!  Problem is, with the 655's reputation, I don't know whether I have a motherboard, cable or drive problem.  A limited trouble shoot by swapping over the drives has ascertained which one the system alleges to keep failing, but I'm now stuck, short of trying new cables, or buying a SATA RAID controller and sticking it in the 645 to see if it is one of the drives that's at fault.
So any ideas on the drive situation?
    Best regards

Apologies for being away for a while, been busy with work & sorting out a pair of bad Raptors drives!  Thanks for the replies from Hellwolf_36 and simps.
I can now report that after I'd worked out that I'd got not one but two damaged 74Gb WD Raptor drive (one had a lot of bad sectors and the other would take over two hours instead of 20 minutes to format which is why I was getting that stop message) and I had replaced the memory with one stick of the Kingston KV400X64C25/512 DDR, my 655 is now working quite well.  I haven't got round to checking if I've got the latest C-media driver installed though.
One thing I did do though was set up my Raptor drives as two independant arrays (C: & D:) rather than RAIDing them.  This is because, I didn't want to stripe the drives just in case of another failure, plus I have more flexibility over storage space not mirroring the drives, unti lI can afford to by another hard drive or two.  Anyway they're really fast in the first place.
For this motherboard I wouldn't bother with any other type of memory other than the KV400X64C25 as recommended on the MSI website, as it's quite fast and no hassle, (can't wait to get my second 512Mb so I can go back to dual channel!!)  Only problem is that the price has gone up a little bit over the past couple of months.
So apart from this MoBo being particular about graphics cards and memory it's not too bad.  My next challenges are too sort out the center/sub problem and network  this baby.

  • PLEASE HELP! video card trouble

    Hi,
I'm a noob to computers, so, I had a game called Knights of the Old republic that was very glitchy. I thought installing some kind of driver for my video card would work, so I found this http://osx86.co/f36/intel-gma-x3100-fix-10-5-6-t2527/ and installed it. Once installed, nothing changed for the good, but no videos would play. So, I booted using apple S and wrote (as the driver person told me to) "./RemoveGMA" . This made videos play, but now my GAMES didnt work. UGH. Now I do not know what to do and would appreciate help. Here is some information to help you.
An error code given from one of my games:
Video hardware acceleration is currently disabled due to safe mode operation or a driver error.
Please ensure you have a working OpenGL Hardware Renderer and try again.

Neither iTunes nor QuickTime can convert MPEG-1/2 files to MPEG-4 format with audio. MPEG-1/2 files are "muxed," or multiplexed. This means both the audio and video are on one track. iTunes (and QT) fail to see the audio, and only convert the video.
Check out either one of the following third party MPEG-4 video converters...

  • Video Card Trouble

Hello, first, sorry for my english, i'm from brazil!
I bougth a Macbook pro Retina 13' (Intel HD  last year. Some months after that, every time that a left my mac for some hours on stand by and l'll use it later, when i open, before the display turn on the display appears like "sprinkles", like a TV with no signal, during 1 - 3 seconds. After that display get normal again.
I called on support and they told me that probably was my video card and 3 other people called about the same problem.
I use my macbook to work, and it's vey bad for me take it to assistance.
    Somebody have seen it???
    Thank you

You can unplug a monitor and plug another one in while the computer is running done it many times. Hardware is tricky to deal with? My favorite monitor one day half the screen went black. Put it on the floor to get rid of, for some reason hitched it back up, a week later, and has now been working for months.
Ram? Have not had it work under any configuration or slots, only to put it in a identcal computer and have it work fine.
One little hiccup on code , or electrical circuit, and these computers have a problem. Work with some hardware and pick up a second computer for parts.

  • Video Card unstable, PSU the cause? Low V rails in BIOS

Ive recently ran into some Video card trouble, I started getting artifacts all of a sudden and random 5 second pauses. I rebooted, the artifacts went away but the pauses persisted before I finally got a BSoD with a nv4_dsp Ininite Loop error. Not good. At first I thought it was my temps because they have been higher than normal for some reason. Normally Im barely above 70c under load but lately its been around 77c all the way up to 80c for no reason I can discern. I figured maybe I knocked the heatsink around (VF700) by accident while cleaning and should reapply it.
But then I noticed my voltage ratings. In Everest and Speedfan the 12v rail is reported @ 11.31 and the 3.3v rail is 3.06. I checked the BIOS reading and that says the 12v rail is fluctuating between 11.55 and 11.61, and the 3.3v rail was down to 2.96. I dont have a multimeter or really know how to use one, for the experts out there how much of an indication are the BIOS and Windows readings to go by that something is really wrong? This PSU is supposed to be among the best out there (PC Power and Cooling have a great rep) but I cant think of what else would cause the problem besides by card going belly up (and the card is still pretty new). If the PSU is truly a dud are the rest of my components in any danger operating at these low voltages?

Another possibility that could lower voltages is the amp demand being too high in the system.  Now why this would happen now and not before could be due to the PSU slowly dying, or something new added to the system, or in the worst case scenario, a hardware component breaking down and causing some sort of short... this would be noticed by an increased in heat, but don't panic, just because your temp readings on the card have been higher doesn't mean that's the case, your card could be hotter for other reasons (like maybe the thermal grease shifted or something and isn't conducting heat as much as it used to).
With voltages going low, you might face system instability anyway, so this should be a concern.  I think it's most likely the PSU, best way to check is borrow one from another computer that you know is in great shape (and sufficient) and try it out, if the readings are much better, you got yourself an almost definite culprit.

  • Power Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz (late june 2004) - trouble upgrading video card

Hi, I'd really appreciate any help. I have a PowerPC G5 Tower, dual 2.0 GHz, DVI/AGP version (June 2004 model) with 8gb ram. I recently got the Apple 30" monitor and wanted to run it along side my 20" apple monitor, so I bought the ATI Radeon 9650 dual dvi video card (ATI-G5-9650 Power Mac G5 ATI Radeon 9650 Supports 30" Display 256MB (DVI/DVI) (8X AGP) Video Card). I pulled out my previous video card from the AGP slot and inserted this one into the same slot. I turned on the machine and plugged in both monitors to the dvi ports and both screens were blank when I booted. I tried plugging in only one of the monitors, but again, just blank. Does this mean the card is bad? Did I put it in the right slot?
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I'm installed an update, not 100% if it was the correc thing to update, but it was all I could find. I went to the ATI site and downloaded the ATI Displays 4.5.7.dmg and installed that as well as the ATI 10.3.6 SW Update.dmg. This was from the ATI site at: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML
Is there another place or something specific for the 9650 that I need to download?
    thanks

  • Why do MSI's video card fans always give me trouble?

I just booted the new system and the MSI Ti4200 8x fan is squawking like a banshee.  X(
The G4MX440 I bought a while back did the same thing after only a few days and now this one is the same. I think it's time for MSI to find a new fan supplier.  :(
Now what do I do? I hate to send the video card back and wait a week until I get another one.

Thanks TBT. I wish I would have ordered two of these PC Toys IceChip VGA chip cooling kits when I bought the one I put on the G4MX440. In fact I may take it out of the MX440 and put it on the Ti4200 card.
    Mike
Are you currently using the MX440? If not put it in for right now. And mod your Ti4200 later. No sense in possibly ruining a decent backup! Those PC Toys heatsink kits, they sell them here in Cincinnati at CompUSA and Microcenter.I want one.BTW I did get my MSI Ti4200 card Tuesday!I love it. Haven't used any of the games yet.

  • Trouble installing new video card

I have a HP Pavilion a6720y Desktop which operates with Windows Vista 64-bit, and I had uninstalled the drivers on my current video card and powered down and opened up my computer, however I could not find a graphics card anywhere in my computer, the PCI slot was empty. So I put in the new card and when I tried turning on the computer again the monitor would not display anything as if the computer were off, when it was clearly on. Can anyone tell me what to do and where exactly the old video card is so I can remove it, If I can remove it.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01643511&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
There is no add-on video card (one you can remove).
The video on your PC is a GPU chip integrated onto the motherboard.
You may have to connect the monitor cable back to the onboard (old) video input, and go into the BIOS, and look for a setting to either disable the onboard video, or enable the PCIe/PCI video, or set it as the primary video controller.
I don't have your model PC, so I don't know what BIOS settings it has.
Not all PC's automatically disable the onboard video chip when an add on video card is installed.
If there are no video settings then one of two things is possible:
    1. You inadvertently hooked the monitor back up to the old video port (I've done that before).
    2. Your video card is defective or incompatible with your PC (may draw too much power, or be too high a PCIe version like 2.1).

  • Trouble adding new video card to p6-2310

I have the Pavilion P6-2310 (Windows 8.1, 64-bit) and I would like to add a new video card to the empty PCI-E slot in the machine.  I would also like the keep the onboard video capability, as I'm looking to drive 3 monitors.  I have an older GeForce 7300LE that I tried putting in last night and was able to get the card working by turning off Secure Boot and enabling Legacy Mode in the BIOS, but the machine would then not recognize the onboard video.
There were no settings in the BIOS to enable/disable onboard video (BIOS is AMI 8.04), so I'm wondering if there was a trick to keep the onboard video while using a PCI-E graphics card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
When you install a discrete video card, the onboard graphics is automatically disabled.

  • New Member / Video Card Choice Question

New CS4 Production Premium User Here.
I am building a computer system specifically for Video Editing and production for use with Premier CS4 & Sony Vegas.. Have been doing my usual amount of Over Research here and other places but have a series of issues I am having a little trouble coming to grips with.
I have been into computer editing game for a long time but strictly in the Audio Recording /Mixing area /..
Video is a new interest which has me hooked / Im also a Gear Junkie so I have to watch it. 
I will probably be back with a couple more topics but to keep this thread simple /
My first post question is the topic of Video cards: Adobes Hardware compatibility list seems a little out dated. ?
The system does not have to be an ultimate gaming rig as I am not into that / just SD & HD Video editing & 3d effects.. I need a card which will do what is needed / works well with Premier CS4 / Is not too loud fan wise / can run 24/5 and not overheat.
    I also will need the ability to monitor on a HD TV with a good sound monitoring system / Midas / Bryston / Dynaudio etc;
I was considering either of the following / from lowest price to highest.
    ASUS GeForce 9600GT Silent 650MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    ASUS GeForce 9800GT Matrix 612MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    ASUS GeForce 9800GTX+ Dk 740MHZ 512MB 2.3GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    Questions:
    Is a 512mb card sufficient?
Will all of the above do what is needed for my purpose?
What about noise of heat issues.
My system could be running close to 24/5 at times.
Have not made a final decision on all components but will probably basically start of like this.
    Vista 64 Bit/OS
    Core I7 940
Asus Rampage 2 Extreme or a plain P6T
Antec 1200 Case / For now I will leave out the hard drives and other things on my list.
My builder suggests to stick with ASUS Video Cards because he has the fastest warranty replacement service on his end for ASUS products / plus I am a total ASUS Motherboard guy with years satisfied experiences.. (in Audio setups).
Any feedback or comments on the above will be appreciated.
    Thanks / Orion

    Thanks Members for the Feedback:
I am trying to stick just to the Video Card Issues so the topic does not get all over the map / Raid issues have already been researched & I might have a question about that later in another thread.
Witha the video card issue I am just trying to see if I can get a reply which the majority of users agree upon / not an easy task & that is were my confused state of topic started.
    b Keith
It seems what you have said about QUADRO cards is the most agreed upon overall from my last three months of research at various locations / The cost is extreme for these cards & I was just trying to determime if I realy needed to go that far : >$2,000.00 and up.
    just for the Graphics card..
Perhaps I should start of with one of the cards I first mentioned which are dirt cheep compared to the Quadro series and replace it when I have arrived at the point where my shills are beyond my hardware limitations.
    b Charles & Jim.
Thanks for the reference to the . >ASUS GeForce 9800GTX+ Dk 740MHZ 512MB 2.3GHZ DDR3< I was thinking this might be the best to start with / except for the reported could be problems of / Noise / card size and Heat issues if running 24/5?
Other issues you have stated also seem to be agreed upon from mny sources as well / which is why I am considering perhaps not going Raid "o" from the start / perhaps Raid 5.. / or No Raid until I see If realy need it for my own personal use level.
b conclusion to this point in the game:
Looks like If I do a top notch system following all the higher end recomendations it will cost me over $10,000.00 (if I include a capture card / raid card (Areca 1220 or 1240(don't want to get into that topic just yet)& all the extras... This is about double the investment I had planned as this is basically a serious hobby not a business venture. Plus we have not included another $6,000.00 for a half decent peosumer HD camera with a few extras. I was trying to keep the entire setup to 8 to 10 grand total.. Not including the software / so this looks like wishfull thinking at best / Ho Ho.
b remember / unfortunately my pricing reflects Canadian $$ which includes a 25% hike in pricing because our government wants the loonie (Good Name) low valued so businesses can export our products at built in 25% Sale Pricing.
Perhaps,we wont get into that topic/please, but I just couldn't resist / when I start thinking about government issues (anywhere in this world) I tend to go off the deep end as part of why I am going into this video thing is to document the destruction of our environment & the entire democratic process, which is a total farce in my neck of the woods. Nuff Said..
Again Thanks for the input and I will keep watching and perhaps cover another topic later / my goal is to place an order for a build within the next 10 days of so.

  • Problems with FCP and Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT video card

Not sure if this should be in the MacBook Pro forum or this one...
I am having trouble with the GeForce 8600M GT video card while editing in final cut pro (and after effects). I have talked with numerous people at applecare, but they say that they are unaware of issues regarding the video card.
The problem: It's almost like the card is unable to keep up with professional video applications. Whenever there is movement in the video I'm editing, I get lines across the screen. Not sure to how better to explain it than to say it looks like the video card is having a tough time refreshing. (I can take the same video to a much older power book, and it plays perfectly, so its not the source file.)
At first I thought it was an FCP issue, but I just started using after effects, and I'm having the same problem in there. If I edit in after effects, when I play it back (in after effects), I get the lines. I can then export the project to a quicktime file. The quicktime file plays perfectly (no lines) when not involved with a professional application. Then if I import the same quicktime file into FCP and play it back in FCP, the lines happen again.
Is anyone esle having this problem? Any thoughts? Any solutions?
    Thanks!
    Michael

I had searched the macbook pro forum, but not this one. It seems that the "screen tearing" issue has been talked about a lot, so I apologize for the repetitive nature of the post. I will say that I am fairly shocked that given how many people have clearly called applecare, no one there seems to have a clue that there is a problem with this video card. I have talked with at least 4 different people in the FCP specialty group, and not one had any clue what I was talking about... 3 of the 4 were fairly insistent that it was a video source issue on my side.

  • Video Card for Photoshop CS5

    Hi,
I'm deciding between these two cards (I do not want to spend more than 70/80 bucks as I might be selling the PC in some time):
    http://www.amazon.com/GeForce-ENGT430-DC-SL-1GD3/dp/B0051UWKUW/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8& coliid=I3KL9BC6YWAB99&colid=F5P3DUM50O0I (US$ 70)
    http://www.amazon.com/EAH6570-1GD3-LP-Radeon-Video/dp/B004X8EOB6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF 8&coliid=I2P1Y17T0IZJPH&colid=F5P3DUM50O0I (US$ 81)
I would want it to be fanless (one of the main reasons I'm focusing on the GT 430) and not bigger in height than these posted, and preferably made by Asus or some other good brand.
At the time I have an onboard Intel GMA X4500HD (which uses my Ram; I have 6GB - and I have an Core2Duo 3GHz 6MB Cache), but I'm having trouble moving various layers at the same time (this file I'm working on for instance weighs 30MB and has "many" layers and folders, but nearly no images; it's all text and vector shapes, and some Smart Objects).
When I move 3/4/5 folders (with layers in it) at the same time it drags quite a lot. Would this have to do with the graphics card? It's the only reason I could think of, because the processor is quite powerful, I have more than enough Ram (ddr3), and I even have a scratch disc that is not the main Hd.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Jimmy
    PD: I'm working on Windows 7 64bit

I opened a file I have with a lot of layers grouped into a number of groups, and many of the layers have effects.  A relatively complex document.
When I select a whole bunch of the groups then use the move tool, yes, I see the screen update response slow down.  In my case, with a fairly powerful workstation and a decent video card it updated the screen about twice a second - a bit laggy but still quite acceptable.  I guess that's to be expected as the previews have to be made up of the combination of a huge number of pixels from all those tens or hundreds of layers in various ways.
Based on what I see, it's not hard to imagine including even more layers in a more complex document to cause things to slow down even more.  I guess one just has to be patient if working on a document that deep in layers.
Note that there are settings in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog that optimize the History & Cache values for "Tall and Thin" documents, where "tall" means "lots of layers".  If you make changes there to experiment, remember to close and reopen Photoshop to test them.

  • MacBook Pro 15" video card problems (i think)

Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a video card problem?
    MBP 15" info (Dec. 2011)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    OS X Lion 10.7.5
    This is what happened:
I use my mbp heavily because I edit a lot of videos with Premiere. I also use lightroom / photoshop alot + games. I also installed Parallels desktop late 2013. I don't know if that is relevant but anyway. Everything started late 2013 (a little after installing parallels actually) when there are moments when the audio wouldn't work and I couldn't adjust the volume. It would come back anyway so i didn't mind it. Then the fans were on high speed for little activity. After that the keyboard backlight couldn't be adjusted and wouldnt work. I ignored all of these cuz i wasn't troubling me at the time. In January i left for france to study - I use bike all the time and once stupidly placed my laptop on the basket going to school (rough roads). I had a class with html so I had to open Parallels, my teacher pointed out the fans and how loud they were. That day, parallels desktop said i must upgrade to windows 9 or it will restart every 2hours. I didn't of course. I didn't have time to.
After that (a few days later i think) my laptop would randomly turn into a black screen but it's still on (the power LED is on) I tried turning it off by pressing down the power button and then turning it back on. It worked the first time. During the first week, the frequency of it happening grew. It would do it almost 3 times a day. during that same week I tried to do an SMC reset. It fixed the keyboard light, fans and audio but not the black screen thing. It just keeps on happening around 1-3 times a day. It only happens when I'm using it btw, never when I just leave it. ALSO, after a few days, it would take longer hours to open my mbp again. I mean, the screen would turn black. i would turn it off, then on again. I will ONLY hear the hard drive moving but no startup sound and no grey screen and apple logo. nothing.
The following weeks after that, I asked a friend to help me out. He suggested that I install gfxCardStatus because he said it might be my video card. He instructed that I keep it on intergrated only. So I installed that and did what he said I thought it worked for a while because the black screens stopped happening (even when gfx keeps on going back to dynamic) BUT NOW, MY LAPTOP WOULD FREEZE (not turn black). I'd shut it down using the power button but it still takes me hours to open it again. Sometimes, I'd wait for the battery to drain because it would startup when i charge it (sometimes)
    I tried doing AHT as well to confirm the video card problem, but the results are no problems found. I really don't want to replace my logicboard here in france. everything is more expensive here. ;__;
Today I uninstalled parallels to see if that might have had anything to do with my problem now but i think that's just wishful thinking.
Can somebody tell me if this is really about the video card? Thank you

Your appointment at the genius Bar in an Apple Store (anywhere in the world) for an evaluation is FREE, in warranty or out. Those guys put their hands on these Macs all day every day, and they are especially good at Physical and Power problems.
    Ask them.

  • How can you test the video card?

I just got a cinema display and I am having trouble calibrating it.
I just notice that when I open up bridge CS4 it takes awhile for it to refresh. When I go to film strip view and click on a picture it will not diplay it.
Then I change views and there is a line down the middle of the display where it gets update but the left side does not.
Any thoughts on what it could be?
Video card of is it the monitor?
    How can I test it?

The only ways I can think of to test the card are XBench and the Apple Hardware Tests (insert Install DVD and restart while holding down 'd')

  • I need to know if ECC ram in a HPZ1 is compatible with Quadro 500M, 1000M, 2000M video cards

    hello,
    i purchased a refurbished hpz1 a year ago, equipped with a Quadro 500M and 16 GB of ECC ram. The cpu is a Xeon e3 1245 v2.
I have lots of trouble trying to use this workstation with certain graphics programs,  like Sketchup 2013 and 2014, as well as rendering programs.  Anything from program freezing/shutting down shortly after opening to locking up the machine midstream.  Yes,  I have updated video drivers, several times,  but still plagued with the same problem.  Not all the time, but frequently.
In shopping for upgrades to the 500M card (like 3000M, perhaps) I have come across video card vendors that specifically mention these older Quadro cards are NOT compatible with ECC ram. I have brought this to the attention of the workstation vendor, IT Creations, in California,  and they claim to never hearing of this issue.
I have spent dozens of futile hours over the past year dealing with system instability,  issues like bootup screens informing me the ram system chip count has (erroneously) changed, requiring immediate shutdown and booting back up to override the message.
Is it true?  CAN or SHOULD ECC ram be used with earlier Quadro cards using MXM3.0?
