Video Card VS Motherboard? Neo 848P

I just upgraded my video card from 256agp to 512agp. I go into the bios to change from 256 to 512 and the highest it goes is to 256. Is there a way to fix this or am I doing something wrong? or did I just waste my money?
Thanks,
Chris.

You're looking at the 'AGP Aperture Size' setting, which has nothing to do with the amount of memory on your video card.
Have a look at this article: What is AGP Aperture size? from techpowerup.com
@Henry,
848P doesn't have any onboard VGA.

I have a computer i build in 2006 utilizing the p965 NEO motherboard. since then, i have been out of the game.
Will this board run newer video cards? i am looking at a GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost, considering just making a whole new machine as well, but if i don't have to...

    looked up the specs.
    Slots
    • One PCI Express x16 slot. (supports PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a compliant)
    • Two PCI Express x1 slots. (supports PCI Express Bus specification v1.0a compliant)
    • Three PCI 2.3 32-bit PCI bus slots (support 3.3V/5V PCI bus interface).
    i have a 550w PSU

I just wan't to make sure because i don't want to keep buying a graphics card and having to return it because it didn't work

  • CPU & Video card Upgrade - Motherboard manual, GPIO switch settings, BIOS update or ?

According to the HP TouchSmart 600-1120 Desktop PC Product Specifications page the motherboard supports the following CPUs:
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    Intel Core i7 820QM Quad Core (C)
    Intel Core i7 720QM Quad Core (C)
    Intel Core i7 620M Dual Core (A)
    Intel Core i5 5x0M Dual Core (A)
    Intel Core i5 430M Dual Core (A)
I upgraded mine with the Intel Core i7 720QM Quad Core.  The two Quad Cord i7 processors do not have a GPU Video chip integrated on the CPU fab like the listed Dual Core processors,  and therefore neccesate the need for an external video card.
According to the HP TouchSmart 600-1120 Desktop PC Product Specifications page the motherboard supports One Mobile PCI Express Module (MXM) socket MXM version: 3.0, type A.
HP offered the NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 1GB DDR3 MXM Video Card , part # 513184-001 as an upgrade option on HP Touchsmart 600's, one would assume you could simply purchase this video card, and with either of these "supported" CPUs Intel Core i7 820QM Quad Core or Intel Core i7 720QM Quad Core and you would be in business, but NOOOO, it does not work!
I tried it on mine, using the Intel Core i7 720QM Quad Core and HP NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 1GB DDR3 MXM Video Card.  The display cycles through various colors, but does not actually provide a usable display.  I can tell the system does boot into Windows 7 (you can hear it) , but you cannot see anything.
There's a bank of DIP switches on the motherboard labled GPIO, which I'd assume is Graphics Processor Input Output, and perhaps there's a switch combo to switch from the Intel CPU/GPU to the MXM slot GPU??? i
I'm unable to find anywhere a manual on the Pentragram motherboard, this may tell how to set said GPIO dip switch if that's what needs to happen?
HP HELP!!!  Your site says the HP Touchsmart is upgradable to the above Intel Quad Core i7 and MXM Video card, BUT HOW?????

    Hi,
I suspect the NVIDIA GTX 760 that you are using is expecting a different BIOS level in the motherboard.  Most of the NVIDIA 760s that have experienced compatibility issues pretty much have been with HP motherboards that don't have version 8 or 80 BIOS level.  The HPE h8-1075UK only has a version 7 BIOS level.
MSI has two "N" model NVIDIA GTX  750 and 750 TI graphic cards that have a switch to allow compatibility with legacy and UEFI BIOS PCs.

  • Got 970A-G46 No support for 4 Video cards?

Hello, Got this board under the impression I would be able to run 4x individual video cards under a Linux install for work related projects, thus each card is on its own processing data. Right now I have 3 video cards working, but once I introduce the 4th video card, the motherboard starts to not work correctly as in sometimes 1 video card works, and none of them are detected, I do a reboot  then a different card is seen and that's it.
I have verified I have enough power from my PSU
I'm using x1-x16 power risers so each card is hooked up for power to reduce the strain on the motherboard itself.
I have verified that each card is non DOA, each riser is correctly working and tested.
I'm trying to figure this out so I don't gotta swap to another board which will allow me to run 4x Video cards for my work related projects at my job. Thanks.
Latest Video drivers, latest BIOS, RAM working correctly, nothing is overheating. each PCI-e slot is alive.

It is not possible to run the board with four vgas. NO 970 board is meant for that tasks. Abnormal usage for mining is not officially supported and a matter of your luck and your research to find products working with odd configs. This board features two physical X16 slots and these are obviously the only slots to support vgas. There is no X1 vga. Risers aren't supported. The maximum possible with 970A-G46 is using two vgas in the x16 slots (x8/x8 config). That means besides using two vgas for multimonitor/physx setups also SLI and Crossfire (each two-way) are possible.
Well I was using it for non-mining projects, running ocl-Hashcat. Not sure why everyone assumes its for mining coins.

  • 848P Neo-V video cards

    G'Day Everyone,
I want to upgrade my sons video card but i can't find any info about supported AGP VGA Card list for this motherboard.
    Can anyone help me please.

This is MSI tested list for the MB. Not all cards that would work are in the list, just ones that were tested years ago on that MB.
     http://www.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR1_582.pdf
From this info you can find a possible supported card from list of retired MSI cards.
One AGP slot supports 8x/4x at 0.8V (AGP 3.0) or 4x at 1.5V (3.3V not supported).

  • If you replace a video card... do you have to replace the motherboard too?

so my pre-unibody mbp has a faulty video card. i'm told it needs to be replaced. is it true that having the video card replaced involves replacing the motherboard too?

If I may chime in, if you are a heavy photoshop user-the 13" is already not an option.  15" or 17" depending on your budget. You need the i7 processor and upgrading to 8gb ram wouldnt hurt either.  But dont get the ram from Apple..way overpriced.  See here: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/1333DDR3S08S/. 8gb for $60-cant go wrong with that! And a lifetime guarantee.

  • Does PCI Express Video Card compatible on a MSI KM4M Motherboard

Does a PCI Express NVDIA Video Card (8500GT 512MB/128Bit/DDR2) compatible on a MSI KM4M Series Motherboard (System Model: KM400-8235)?
Is it possible to setup the PCI Express NVDIA Video Card on the MSI Motherboard PCI Bus Slot?
    Thanks for any response.

Maybe this is a dumb question..
There's no way a PCI-e card will work on that board. AGP yes, PCI yes, PCI-e no.

  • Faulty motherboard/video card

black screen on native moniter but with external moniter can see.cannot boot normally with video card enabled, can only see on external moniter.no aero, but it would normally have it. HD 5470/512 MB discrete system board with card readercpu i3 370m4gb ram500 gb storagecd drivehp g62t-350wv686av video card soldered to motherboard

That pretty much sizes it up. So even on an external monitor you have low res and color depth? That is almost for sure a bad video card chip which is the same as saying a bad motherboard.

  • Motherboard issue? With video card.

    Mainboard:  760GMA-P34(FX) (MS-7641)
    PCB Version:  5.0
BIOS Version: VP.0 (aka Version: V25.0)
    BIOS Date:  5/28/2013
Everything works fine using onboard video. Windows 7 64 bit.
Plug in my Nvidia GT 620 and immediately CPU fan maxes out with no increase in temperature, system still stable using standard VGA driver provided by windows. After ANY NVIDIA driver is installed, windows blue screens upon boot. We can't see the error because the blue screen is too quick, and it immediately tries to reboot and restore. Event logs show nothing.
I'm at a loss here. MSI motherboard tech support isn't open on the weekends, hopefully you guys can shed some light. Is this common? Do I need a new board? I've never come across anything like this before. The rest of the machine is 100% stable, the only issue(s) that arise is when the video card and the drivers are installed. The video card works fine in another machine, I've replaced the power supply with a much heftier one with more juice, and the same thing happens.
    Thanks!

  • Can a pcie express X 3.0 video card be used on a pcie express x 16 2.0 motherboard?

I am upgrading my PSU and GPU and want to know if a pcie 3.0 video card will work on my pcie 2.0 motherboard.
     the motherboard is a MS-7613 IONA-GL8E  (MSI)

The pcie 3.0 specification is backwardly compatible to pcie 2.0. The problem you may run into is that of compatibility with the vBIOS of the video card. Major video card makers have forums that are usually quite helpful with that kind of knowlege.
Check at the candidate PCIe x16 manufacturer's support forum  or website to see if they offer a vBIOS file to make it legacy PC compatible. You need one with a hybrid vBIOS, because your PC is not UEFI vBIOS compatible.
It is always best if you identify an HP product by its product name or product number rather than the subsystems that it contains. That lets us find information on the BIOS, which is what I needed.
Try doing a Google search with your PC's product name and upgrading video card as the keywords to sift through the information freely available on the internet.

  • Is MSI P965 Neo-F supports DirextX10 video cards...

Is MSI P965 Neo-F supports DirextX10 video cards?
what are the video cards supported in this board?
Thanks in advance for your reply...

"Any AGP card works in any AGP slot."
not exactly.. there is an exception with too old AGP slot which use 3.3V and too old AGP VGAs respective.
    @hackfinn
can you complete rest of your PC specification, e.g. CPU, PSU and so on.. and what VGA you are planning to get?

  • K8T Neo-V, problems w/ savage agp video card (Stealth III S540)

    Hi all
I have a K8T Neo-V mobo, 512 MB Kingston memory and a Stealth III S540 agp video card. The problem is that when I play any kind of video in my linux box it freezes completely the system, same thing with Windows Xp SP2. When i start Soldier of Fortune it hangs up the system. The agp card is quiet old, i know, could be this a problem with some BIOS setup like 'aperture size' and speed, and so on? Don't know about what this options means  ???,  maybe that's the source of the problem, who can give me some piece of advice about this, please. I'm considering getting a newer and faster agp card, but not in the near future.
    Thank you

I am suprised a card that old even works as I thought those were for the original AGP setup that had different voltages.
I would really recommend grabing a newer card up and if you are just looking for a simple display maybe you can still find an old Ti4200 or such.

  • Hard Drives and video card for new CS5 system

I've read through much of the threads in the hardware forums and find I still have questions.  I am just beginning to learn how to edit and it is not a source of income for me at the moment.  My sources will be from tapes from my Canon HV20 and at some point either a Panasonic GH2, Canon 60D or similar.
    I have bought the following:
    ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard
    24 GB of Patriot Sector 7 DDR3 1333MHz memory (9-9-9-24)
    Intel i7-950 3.06 GHz CPU
I plan to use Cineform NEO or maybe NEO HD to ingest my files.
    I also have 4 Seagate 750GB 7200.11 hard drives I can use.
It seems like the best bang for the buck for a video card is a GTS 450 at about $100 because I can't find any data that indicates a GTX 460 or a GTX 570 would make any difference (see http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5.htm)
As far as hard drives goes, Harm's article on creating separate storage makes sense to me.  It seems like I could create a "4 drive" system quite easily (see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972).  Given that I am not ready to spend moeny on an Areca card until I can develop my skills,  I am wondering if I should get one of the new WD Velociraptor 600GB (SATA 6) drives as my system drive for about $280, a 150 GB (SATA 3) Velociraptor drive for about $100, or some other fast drive.
Given that my motherboard can support RAID, should I consider RAIDing the "D" drive or the "E and F" drives?
Is there any value to using an SSD drive for the "E" drive (page file and media cache) [see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972]?  Microcenter has a 64GB drive for $100.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Harm,
First let me say, I didn't mean to exclude Bill Gehrke.  I just didn't know what was what.  Thank you for explaining that to me.  Let me also say the you and Bill have a great site.
I have a question for you,  in the tests I have run with my systems, I am not seeing any speed difference between the 450 and 480.  Now granted, they are AMD processors and I know they don't have the SSE 4.1+. Here are my systems that I ran the tests on:
An AMD X4 Quad Core computer running at 2.9 Ghz with 12 gigs of RAM and a single Samsung 7200 rpm SATA 3.0Gb/s hard drive
An AMD X6 Six Core computer running at 3.2 Ghz with 12 gigs of RAM and a single Samsung 7200 rpm SATA 3.0Gb/s hard drive
Both computers were running the same version of the NVidia driver and all non-essential programs were disabled.
When I test the 450 and the 480 in the AMD X4 system, they are turning in pretty much the same level of performance, in that system.
The same holds true with the AMD X6, the 450 and 480 turn in virtually the same level of performance, in this system.
The AMD X6 with either the 450 or 480 does turn in a better performance over the AMD X4 with either video card.
The question.... Are you seeing result that are like this?  Where using the exact same computer, turns in the same results with different video cards.
From the number of emails I get about the article, other have reported this to me also.  I have had a few people who said when they did see a minor speed increase when they did switch between a 450 and a 480 and a couple who did see a good speed increase.
I am working on changing the article to reflect this and would really appreciate your input or Bills input on this.
I have looked at your benchmark chart and read through the result, but one thing that concerns me when reading some of the results is what programs do they have running in background, if any.  And how is that effecting their performance.  That is why I used the two systems I listed above to do the tests with.  It gives me a controlled enviroment to do test the performance of the video cards in.
As a side note, when I tested the 450 and 480 cards in a friends Intel I7 system, again we didn't see any performance difference between the two video cards, but he did have some programs running in background which may have caused the perfornce results I got.
    Best Regards
    David Knarr

  • Msi video card n240gt and n9800gt problems with output HDMI

    Hello to all
I have a problem I just bought a new Video card because I needed HDMI output. The previous card I have is a BFG Ge Force 8800GT 512 DDR2 running @ 1920x1080p 60Hz which works perfectly the only downside is it does not have HDMI out with 5.1. Now i installed the n240GT 512 DDR5 and tried watching BD ripped to the HDD and playing them back  all i get now it jerking lagging bad also and have horizontal red and green lines scattered across the screen.Which i did not have with my 8800GT card thinking  its  a bad card so i bought another card from another dealer this time its a MSI  N9800GT 1gig DDR3 and still the same problem.I Checked the resolution and its set to 1920x1080P refresh at 60Hz,i also changed the  Hz to 24Hz and it cleaned up the lines but not all and picture still  jerky picture. I have a MSI K9N NEO V3 Motherboard and all drivers updated current Bios. l used a DVI cable 40ft long with my Ge Force 8800GT and every thing worked fine, once I installed the new MSI Video cards N240gt and N9800GT I have the above problems and using a 50FT HDMI cable. I have a Samsung PN50A550 with 3 HDMI inputs 1 has my BluRay player hooked up with HDMI running at 1920x1080P at 60Hz and crystal clear picture no problems, input 2 has my HD Bell receiver running at same specs as input 1 no problems I tried the other HDMI inputs from the Samsung TV  from the HDMI out from the card same thing. It has to be the cards that can`t support the TV what else can it be if not the MSI cards. Please respond ASAP Thanks Thumpalong

You may want to borrow and test with another PSU.
We always recommend Corsair and Seasonic
I can't find anything on Topower other than that opinion piece of linked... getting frustrated. Most of the time I can find detailed info on most psu's not this time, so best to borrow and test.
Assuming of course that the older VGA's worked fine.
