  • FCP video chapter markers not accepted by DVD SPro

When I had FCP chapter markers in the timeline and then used compressor, they appeared in DVD Studio Pro. But in realizing that I couldn't cut out any footage in FCP without ruining all of the markers I had made following that point in the timeline it was suggested that I add chapter markers onto the video itself. The markers were no longer visible as windows in the Canvas, we got them to appear in the Viewer (view-playhead sync-open). BUT... Now, these markers attached to the video (and not the Time line) appear to not be working when I open a compressed sequence in DVD Studio Pro. How can this delemna be solved?

Ok, so if this is true (about "Chapter Markers set in FCP to work in DVD-SP, they HAVE to be set to the Timeline"), does it not seem a little silly for FCP (using latest Studio updates etc) to give people the option of utilizing "chapter" markers set to the video if they don't actually work?
By the way I'm using all of the latest FCS updates and exported using File: Export: Using compressor and then opening up DVD SP and importing assets etc.
Could there not be an easier way rather than having to wait until the VERY end of the editing process to add Chapter markers to the Timeline because otherwise they get all wacked out of sink if you cut out or add any video/audio?

  • Video chapter markers not showing in iTunes

I used Metadata Hootenanny to add chapter markers in a movie.
When I play the movie through Quicktime it shows the pop-up chapter selector, but when i import the movie into iTunes and play it through iTunes, the controls don't show the chapter markers.
I've seen the chapter markers working fine in iTunes for movies purchased in the iTunes Store.
    What am I doing wrong?

You need to toggle on "show overlays" in the canvas and/or viewer display.
You access it via the rightmost icon of the three above the canvas display or from the VIEW menu or with SHIFTOPTIONW

  • Folders and Chapter Markers for Movies Transferred to iToons

I would like to transfer my movies to iToons so I can stream them to my Apple TV to show them on my HD TV and have two questions.
    1. Can I create a folder to hold movies of a similar type?
    2. Several of my movies are composed of episodes and when I transferred them to a DVD I had chapter markers which made it convenient to locate a particular episode. I note that the commercial movies I stream to my TV allow you to move to a particular scene or chapter.  Is there a way to provide chapter markers when I share a movie I made to iToons?  All my movies are in a QT format as well as in a disk image of the DVD.

i use handbreak to rip down dvds onto my ipod. is there a way to do chaptermarkers or a faster way to fastforward?
The iPod player currently ignores video chapter markers. As to a faster way to fastforward, how are you doing it now? I can fastworward through the entire Star Wars III movie in 5-6 seconds (depending on the amount of drag caused by the silicone case). This is faster than I can repeatedly click all of the chapter markers on my old DVD player and wait for it to catch up.

  • Audio from video to CD using chapter markers for song separation

    Dear All,
I have a client who wants audio only exported from a 2 hour plus original musical video performance and put on CD. I would like to separate the songs on the audio clip so that they can be individually searched by the CD remote rather than just having one long 2 hour plus soundtrack...a lot of work, believe me due to the number of songs involved!
Is there an easy way to do this other than by exporting each song as a separate audio clip? If I create chapter markers and then delete the video track, will the chapter markers remain embedded in the audio portion during the export? I am working with Final Cut Studio 2 which includes DVD Studio Pro and Soundtrack Pro. I also have Toast Titanium 8.
    Thanks for your help.
    Barb

When I need to do this, I export the audio from the QuickTime file into an AIFF file which I then open in a Soundtrack Pro multi-track project, use the razor blade tool to mark the tracks/chapters, then move them into a separate track in the multi-track project (all starting at the very start of the timeline), making as many new tracks as needed.
Then, you need to export one track at a time: mark an in point at the beginning of the project then an out point at the end of the piece of audio in that particular track, solo the track and export mix, giving the tracks numbers as you go - as it's only one track, your mix wil be one track of audio. Continue this through all the tracks, which you can then import into iTunes and, as they're numbered, you'll know which order to put them in on the CD.
I know it sounds long-winded but it's easier than it sounds! Hope it helps,
    Chris

  • Adding chapter markers in a made for ipod video?

    Hi
Can one add chapter markers to a video compressed for ipod viewing, so as viewers can skip to different sections of the movie?

Yes, you can add chapters to any supported video through QuickTime Pro. However, I am not sure that these can be noticed within iPod. To add chapters in QuickTime Pro 7.0, see this article: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html

  • IOS Client Video Streaming with Chapter Markers

Are there any ios client applications that will receive an h.264 video stream and provide a list of chapter markers for the video?
It seems AVFoundation definitely supports this: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/releasenotes/AudioVideo/RN-AVFoundation-O ld/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40011199-CH1-SW6
However, I can't find any client applications out there that seem to support this. I can't even really get a clear answer as to whether or not HTTP Live Streaming for iOS has a feature for providing chapter metadata.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

My most sincere of apologies.  My "instruction redo" for clarity included a cerebral gaseous emission in the one place that was most important.
Step 6 should read "Select "Movie""
    1. Go to iTunes->Home Videos
    2. Right-click the video
    3. Choose "Get Info"
    4. Click the "Options" tab
    5. Click the "Media Kind" pull-down menu
    6. Select "Movie"
    7. Click "Okay"
Fell into that trap where you read something over several times to make sure you got everything correct, but you aren't really looking because you KNOW you got everything right.
Not only that, but I got it wrong the first time as well, although Florbid got it right (for Windows) in spite of my initial blundering.  If you read my first post, I say to select "Video", which was supposed to be "Movie" even then.
Hope this relieves your frustration.  But if it doesn't solve the problem, I have no other answer.

  • Exporting video in 16:9 with chapter markers in fcp

I have been triyng to export a video in 16:9 with chapter markers but when opened with idvd I can only get either the format or the chapters by using two diferent procedures. Is there any way I can have it in the right format and with the chapter markers? If not, is there any other program, lets say dvd studio pro, that can do it. How should I export them?
Thank you all for your help.

Its SD, I found a way to export it so it would understand anamorphic but them I dont have the chapter marks.
I will try the other forum, thank you.

  • Uploading video/audio w/ chapter markers.

Hello. I'm trying to upload a music album that I created onto my iweb website. I took all the individual mp3 tracks and compiled them as a podcast in Garageband in order to take advantage of the picture placement option and, more specifically, the chapter markers. I've exported the file as an .m4a file.
When I drag the file into iWeb for placement, the chapter markers are not included. It's just the big long track. However, when I open the file with QuickTime, the chapter markers are all there. I've tried dragging the file into iWeb and I've also tried to export it directly into iWeb from Garageband. Neither has been successful.
I'm not sure why the chapter markers are not being included in iWeb. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Ben:
This is a long shot but try adding the QT movie file using an HTML snippet and iFrame code as follows:
    <iframe width="XXXX" height="XXXX
" frameborder="0" src="URL TO YOUR MOVIE ON THE SERVER" more attributes>
alternative text to be displayed for browsers which do not support iFrame
    </iframe>
Set the width to about 10 pixels sider than the movie and about 30 pixels higher to include the control bar.
Assuming you have a MMe account you would upload the movie to the iDisk/Movies folder and use the following URL to it: http://homepage.mac.com/MMeAccount/.Movies/FileName. Note the period before Movies. Don't forget to include it.
I don't know if this will keep the chapter markers but worth a try.

  • Which styles create chapter markers in epub output?

I exported Apple's "ePub Best Practices for Pages" document to ePub, and transfered it to my Kindle. I noticed that both the "Chapter Name" style and the "Heading" style show up in the TOC, but only the "Heading" style shows up as chapter markers on the Kindle's progress bar.
I'd like the "Chapter Name" to show up there as well. What about the "Heading" style (that is obviously different from the "Chapter Name" style) is causing this to happen?

You always need to reformat drives from PC formatting (FAT32) to Mac-compatible.
+dragging the .DV file to a drop zone and then selecting the file (giving it the yellow and black striped border)+
Ah, I see the problem. You are putting your movie into the wrong place! You cannot put a video into a drop zone and expect to have chapters there. Maybe you are misunderstanding drop zones. Drop zones are defined areas on an iDVD menu in which you drop content--short video/photo--that will play when the DVD disk is inserted into a DVD player; it plays while the viewer is deciding to select to view the entire movie or view different chapters. The content in a drop zone plays for a limited time only. You cannot get your entire movie to play unless it is very short, which I am assuming it is not, since you wish to have chapters dividing it.
To get your video into iDVD for that type of viewing, DON'T put it into a drop zone. AVOID the drop zone and drag the video to the background area of the iDVD main menu screen. Now you should have the create chapters option available,

  • Broken Chapter Markers

I am having an issue with iDVD and chapter markers made in iMovie. I have been working with 3 different Macs (2 MacBooks and an iMac) while I was away from my iMac. I got most of the video editing I needed to do done in imovie on one of the Macbooks and sent it to iDVD (Share > iDVD)
I also saved archives of each of my iDVD projects from the original mac that I made each project on. Once I confirmed that the archive had been made, I deleted the original source footage from iMovie because I was just out of space to keep it.
Now that I am back to my iMac, I've transferred all the iDVD project archives to my iMac to do a bit of final editing of the dvd and plan to make disk images and burn finished disks. The problem I am having now is that when I open any of the archived idvd projects, they give me an error message when opening them saying that assets have been modified and I can either cancel or allow it to automatically update. If I click cancel, everything works fine except for when I go to make the disk image or burn a disk. If I try either, I get the same message about assets being modified and I have to click continue to make the disk. The problem is that when it updates, it breaks all my chapter markers and the movie starts at the beginning no matter which chapter you choose from the menu.
Sorry for the long explanation. Can anyone tell me how to fix this???
    Thanks

As I wrote at very beginning of this discussion.
THIS IS the iDVD BUG !
That was the most thorough description on - HowTo - Set off the iDVD bug I've read so far.
Yes that's exactly how this happens
    • make a movie
    • start an iDVD project
    • go back to movie for final adjustments
    • and iDVD - Get funny.
    A. I never use the "Share to iDVD" function. I get a much better result by using "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (NOT HD) and in iDVD - click Media button and Movie - here it is.
For even better result - I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut - as iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 discard every second line what way chosen to export over to iDVD resulting in a quality loss.
    B. When done any alterations (or even just opened movie project) in iMovie or FinalCut - Then Start in iDVD a Brand New project. Easiest way to get it right.
    Yours Bengt W

  • For what reasons would you not be able to add chapter markers to a project?

New to this...I will try to give you the detail you need to answer without giving you a long story. I am actually asking this question because I have a video production company working on my wedding video..they are using iDVD to burn but I am not sure if they are using iMovie to compose or some other software. Anyways, this is actually the second time around with my video. They produced it 18 months ago and it looked beautiful! The only problem was that we realized 10 months later that there was an audio problem with the wedding ceremony. In the meantime, the person who originally worked on the project left with the software and the equipment. So, they had to start over and have been working on the redo since February and I think I am the iDVD "test rat". They are telling me now that it is not possible to add chapter markers to the project in iDVD. And this is part of the e-mail they sent me with a supposed explanation:
+I took your corrected DVD to the Apple Store and the training expert explained to me that this program only shows each chapter at a time and the program will automatically go back to the menu after each chapter+.
From what I have been reading on the discussion boards, the only reason that adding chapter markers would not be possible is that they are using iDVD '08 (since they purchased the software in February, I don't think this is possible) or that they did not use the original wedding tape to create the new DVD project..they used the already broken down video segments from the 1st DVD and just put them in menu folders??? Any help or explanation would be GREATLY appreciated! If there is any additional information you might need, I will do my best to provide it.
    THANKS!!!

    Hi cooperjb,
Welcome to apple discussions. iDvd is consumer authoring software. DVDSP on the other hand is part of FCS 2 / apple's top of the line / professional DVD authoring software. There are some significant (huge) differences between the two apps which I won't go into great details here since I could likely fill a text book on this very subject. Instead you can search this forum/s for a few prior posts as well as apple's knowledge base (KB) for further details on exactly why pros prefer to use Apple's FCS 2 as opposed to the i-Apps.
As much as one may want iDvd to act and perform exactly like Professional Software, It is not. It's intended for consumers (and prosumers).
On a less serious note, this one's always good for a laugh:

  • Chapter Markers End Jump Too Early-Problem

Folks, I am using DVDSP 4 and my chapter markers keep stopping too early from the burned DVD. When I play the Video_TS folder using Apple DVD player all is well. When I burn it and play it on a standard DVD player, all the chapter markers end jump earlier than they should - cutting off my full credit rolls on my video track.
All of my chapter markers came from Final Cut Pro where I initially made them.
    Please advise.

Make sure you test this on more than one player if it is a "for real" project of replication or duplication. All players are not created equal and there are the real weird things that may show up on only one or two players, but you need to make sure. You may want to try the other methods and see if it helps on the problem player just for fun. (Yeah, I know does not sound like much fun, but it is sort of interesting I guess )
