Video Chat in iChat won't work after 10.4.8 update

I use video chat all the time in iChat but after the 10.4.8 update everytime I try and start a chat or get invited to one a window pops up and says "There was a communication error. Do you want to send a report to apple?". Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks

Have you repaired permissions since updating? I'd start there.

  • Apache won't work after 10.5.2 update

Apache won't work, after I installed the 10.5.2 update.
When I type the following in the terminal: sudo apachectl -t
    I get a error:
    /usr/sbin/apachectl: line 81: 711 Segmentation fault $HTTPD $ARGV
Does anyone know how I can solve this?
    thank you!

I too had the same problem after the auto update 10.5.2 - specifically the 2008-002 update broke my machine in a number of areas.
I downloaded the package and ran it, this seems to have mopped up the problems caused my the first run.
    The update is located at:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/security_updates/
    Look for 2008-002 (Leopard) it's about 50MB.
Hope this works for you too.

  • Safari and iChat won't work after lion upgrade

I just completed an upgrade to lion on my 2010 Mac mini and after reboot, safari won't open a web page..it just gets stuck with the blue loading bar about 1 inch from the left and iChat won't connect either.  I've repaired permissions and rebooted several times, checked for 3rd party add-ons and still they won't work.  Help! I need Internet again.  I'm posting this on my iPad 2 because I can't get safari to load a page or download another browser like chrome or firefox:(

OK... i had a quick look around and it seems many peoples various issues were solved by just restarting their macs a few times... i downloaded the java update from the apple support site and then restarted twice and everything now working perfectly.

  • IChat won't start after 10.4.3 update!!!!!

After I installed 10.4.3 iChat won't start. It would look like it was going to Launch and would quit. I looked at all the postings and found a couple of ideas, but nothing that worked. The only way I can get on is by disabling my network connection and then starting iChat and then re enabling my network connection. Any other ideas. Please let me know.

Ralph, no offense, I know you're trying to help this guy, but all you've done to offer him advice is to tell him what he already said he's doing and was trying to not have to perform every single time he wants to use iChat.
In his ORIGINAL post, he said exactly this:
The only way I can get on is by disabling my network connection and then starting iChat and then re enabling my network connection.
Please try and really read what someone asking for help is saying, then offer advice if you've got it. All it looks like here is that you weren't really paying attention to his problem in the first place.
As for me, I'm having much the same problem as a lot of people getting iChat to work, and I clicked on this seeing it had a reply thinking I was going to finally find an answer. It's a little frustrating to see people reply with exactly the same information they've already been given just being repeated back to them.

  • Apps won't work after sync and software update

Just syncd my ipod 4.  Now FB, games and other apps won't work.  The screen just goes blank.  Re did the sync and still nothing.  I really don't want to restore the settings because I have a lot of info on this pod.  What can I do?

Try restarting your iPod by holding down the on/off and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, if that don't work try double clicking your home button to open your multi-task window hold you finger on the first app until it start to wiggle and the red minus sign shows up in the left corner tap the red minus sign to close all of your open programs.

  • Safari won't work after version 5.0 update

    Hi there!
I've just updated Safari yesterday, just to find out it simply won't work… The program "opens up" as usual, but fails to load any page… I get the blue background on the menu bar (as if it was trying to load something) but no "turning wheel" (wich indicates the loading progress). It just stops there. I'm writing from my MacBook, on which I haven't performed the update yet, but I really need to make it work again on my main computer. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks in advance!

Found the solution to my problem in another thread...

Essentially, I tracked down my CosmoPod installation and moved it to the desktop. My CosmoPod was in HD>Library>Input Managers, though others have found it in a folder called SIMBL in Application Support.

  • Ichat won't work after latest update

    Hi all,
I updated one of our servers yesterday and now it's impossible to connect to the ichat server. All the clients gets a error: host unknown. Everything worked ok before the update. I've tried using the ip of the server instead of the domain name, but no luck.
Anyone got any tips where I should start looking?

    Hi Betacode,
This question would be best asked in the Server Forums.
Start here in Snow Leopard Server and refine the List for Collaboration Services.
Look out for replies form Tim Harris.

  • IChat no longer working after 10.4.8 update

Has anyone figured out how to use iChat after the 10.4.8 update???

    Thanks Ralph,
I had a feeling that it was a vocabulary breakdown on my part. I have a Cox Cable modem, Netgear WGR614v6 wireless router, Linksys (vonage) RT31P2 telephone router connected in that order. Today, I have reset all of this equipment and the only change I would really see to make is turning off the SID firewall on the Netgear router.
Doing that allowed me to log into ichat and use the text functions but I am still unable to use voice or video. When I start a chat it fails and says 'I' didn't respond (not the other person I chatting with). I can chat with my wife's macbook (video / voice), when both are connected to the my network. Her macbook was purchased at the same time as my macbook pro and the software is identical.
I spoke with a vonage tech person and he said they use port 5060, 5061, 10000. I try to unlock these ports on both my routers with no luck. I also tried another wireless network and still no luck.
At this point I'm not sure if its my computer or my modem's. If you have any ideas.... I'm all ears.
    Thanks
    Barron

  • HT4623 Reminders won't work after iOS 6.1 update on iPhone 5?

I updated to the new iOS 6.1 update last night. Went to make a reminder through siri and i get to the point were it asks to confim. When I press confirm Siri tells me that she can't do it. I try to set a reminder manually and the app does not give me the option to add a reminder manually. Everything worked fine before the update when my iPhone 5 had the 6.0 iOS?
Any ideas on what the problem coulb be? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    GS47

The problem is more than likely being cause by corruption that occured during the iOS install or in the backup that was used to restore the phone after the update.
    Standard troubleshooting is:
    Re-boot the phone
Restore the phone from your backup
Restore the phone as a new device.
One of the 3 should fix the problem.

  • Help: http mail plugin won't work after 10.4.3 update

Posted this at the OSX mail discussions, but have not been getting response so I'm posting it here:
After installing the 10.4.3 update from software updater, i have found that my osx mail app can no longer be access my hotmail and yahoo accounts. It was working fine with the httpmail plugin i downloaded from version tracker a few months ago--- but since the update it has ceased to work.
Anybody know why? Is there a new version of the plugin that works with 10.4.3?
Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Since Mac OS X doesn't have a "clean install", please clarify from this user tip which installation option did you choose?

  • Applications won't work after 2.0.1 update

None of the new applications will work on my iPhone after the new update. When I try to open an application, it begins to open and then quits to the icon screen. I have one of the old iPhones. I tried to turn it off and back on but that didn't solve the problem. I deleted boxoffice and tried to search for it in the app store and it wasn't listed. Same with phone saber. Anybody else having problems with the update?

I'm having the same issues, as well as others. look around on this site for some help, but far as i know it is a problem that apple is going to have to fix via an update.

  • Can't video chat with iChat 6.0.1 with Verizon Fios modem,MI424WR.

Can't video chat with iChat 6.0.1 with Verizon Fios modem, MI424WR. Get error "Router type is Restricted, Port Restricted, Symmetric, or Unknown." How do I configure the router? I have allowed iChat incoming connections in my Mac (10.7.2) firewall. GChat and Skype work fine.
    Thanks

    Hi.
You have to configure Port Forwarding on the Verizon FIOS Modem Router for iChat.
    http://support.actiontec.com/doc_files/MI424WR_Rev._G_User_Manual_30.16.0_v1.pdf
    Excerpt from pages 109 & 110:
"To set up basic port forwarding:
    1. Click the arrow next to “IP Address forward to or select from menu” to display  a menu and either enter the IP address of the item to port forward from, or choose an item from the drop-down menu (choose your machine by host name, since the internal ip address changes from time to time, after the lease time expires).
    2. Click the arrow next to “Application to forward...” and select a pre-configured application from the drop-down menu (if iChat is not present in the list, you'll have to set up Advanced Port Forwarding).
    3. Click Apply. The new port forwarding rule appears in the “Applied rules” table at the bottom of the screen. "
" To set up advanced port forwarding (custom ports):
    1. Click the arrow next to “Application to forward...” and select Custom Ports from the drop-down menu.
    Con
    2. Enter the host name (from the drop-down list) or local IP address of the computer providing the service in the “Specify IP” text box. Note that only one local network computer can be assigned to provide a specific service or application.
    3. Click Advanced.
    4. Select the Internet protocol to be provided from the “Protocol” drop-down list.  Depending on the protocol selected, additional options appear in the screen.
    5. Select the connection with which this port forwarding rule will be active from the “WAN Connection Type” drop-down list.
    6. To select a port to forward communications to (this is optional), select “Specify” from the “Forward to Port” drop-down list, then, in the text box that appears, enter the port number. If no port is identified, select “Same as
    Incoming Port.”
    7. If this port will be active all the time, select “Always” from the “Schedule” drop-down list. If the rule will only be active at certain times, select “User Defined” and click Add. Then, add a schedule rule (for more details about
schedule rules, see the “Advanced Settings” chapter of this manual).
    8. If source and destination ports need to be specified, select Specify from the drop-down menu list (by clicking on the appropriate arrow), then entering the port numbers.
    9. Click Apply to save the changes. The new port forwarding rule appears in the “Applied rules” table at the bottom of the screen."

    Good Luck.

  • External keypad won't work after installing OS 7.

External keypad won't work after installing OS 7. I have a "Zagg" keyboard that won't pair now to OS 7,...Why?

They do work. I have one and mine is working. Have you tried to reset your iPad? HOlding down teh sleep and home keys until it reboots then try pairing again.
A slightly more drastic thing is to go into the settings and reset all settings. THe downside, you will need to retweak your device but it can help fix keyboard glitches.

printer won't work after installing mountain lion?

Assuming you've first checked Software Update to see if there are any updated drivers and it's still not working, you could try resetting the printing system.
System Preferences>Print & Scan, Control+Click or Right Click on a printer on the left and select 'reset printing system'. All printers will be deleted and need to be added again.
