Video Chat Invitations?

People click to video chat with me, but I don't get any invitation. It just automatically joins. Help Please!

Hi,
Go to iChat menu > Preferences > Alerts
In the top Drop Down select Video Invites
Uncheck the AppleScript item or change it to read "None"
(It has an Auto-Accept option in the drop down)
Repeat if required for Audio Only Invites.
Repeat for Receiving Files if required. (Both are chosen in the top Drop down)
If you have Chax, an iChat Add-On check that in it's General Tab, Auto Accept for AV chats is deselected.

  • On multiperson video chats, I cannot see the video chat invitation. When it's one other person, I can. What should I do?

What should I do? My camera lights up green, but I can never see the video chat invitation for multiperson video chats.

I am having the same problem. I have reinstalled iTunes and I have also deleted it and reinstalled it. Same problem. You are right, it will play, although I can't see to pick something, it just plays what ever it is on.
Please help!! This is running me insane...............
I ran the applescript to resize it to no avail.
    I am running OS X - 10.5
I have the latest version of iTunes (just downloaded off of the apple website)
    4GB RAM
    500GB hard drive
Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
This is also a new OS X install.
    Thanks in advance

  • IChat immediately cancels incoming video chat invitations

This only happens on my iMac. My MacBook, which is on the same airport network, performs video iChats flawlessly.
When I'm on my iMac, if somebody sends me an invitation to video chat, I hear the invitation chime, but right away before I can click to accept I get a message saying that the invitation was canceled, though this was not the case.
So I move over to my MacBook and it works perfectly there.
Do I have a jealous iMac? Any idea why it won't let me video chat with anybody?
    Thanks,
    ==>Pete

    Hi,
In Applications/Utilities is the Airport Utility
Open this and it will show you on the left hand side a list of the Airport Devices it can see.
Click on yours and then on the Internet Icon in the tool bar across the top.
At the bottom of this pane it will either say "Share a Public IP" or possibly be set to "Bridge (Off) Mode".
    See this Pic
Also click on the NAT tab at the top and in the next pane Enable Port Mapping Protocol if it is not already.
What modem are you using this with ?
    Does that route ?

  • Why would my video chat invitation be instantly declined by the invitee when he didn't do it? And I mean the invitation is declined instantly.

When I invite my father-in-law to a video iChat, my iChat window launches and instantly says "David declined the invitation". Instantly! and then my window video freezes. I absolutely know that he isn't declining. And anyway, no one could decline as instantly as it happens. What's going on?

    Hi,
Since Snow Leopard (iChat 5)  iChat has used or accessed as much of the Internet speed it can see.
Before that it was limited by the speed set in the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab at about 1.5Mbps no matter what Internet speed you had.
In iChat 5 and 6  iChat tends to try and use as much of the internet speed as possible.
This mean if you have a 2Mbps upload services it will try to send things that fast to your Buddy.
In some cases it does appear that the other end cannot always supply feedback as to a much more useful speed (it is supposed to be "negotiated" between the two ends).
iChat also stores or writes the speed it can see when it Starts up to it's .plist
This can be distorted if your iChat is starting up when the computer does.
It would seem that you have healthy enough internet speeds but this is not what iChat thinks it has as it is giving your the red crosses.
In Lion go to the Finder and the Finder's Go Menu.
Hold the ALT key and then select the Library that appears.
Then go to the Preferences and find com.apple.ichat.plist and the .lockfile of the same name.
Drag these to the Trash and Restart iChat.
I would hold off on Setting 200kbps for now.
What it does is lower the Internet Speed you use.
200kbps is good enough for 1-1 video chats.
In effect what is does is drop your speed below any variance level that might be effecting things form the ISP Service.
It tends to also stop one end over-running the other with a faster data stream (Particularly at 500kbps)

  • Invite to video chat, invitation received, responded to, but can't connect

I invite a friend to video phone on iChat, she accepts the invitation, but then we can't chat. If I invite her, she clicks Accept, then on her end it says that she failed to respond and on my end it just keeps waiting endlessly. If she invites, me, I click Accept and on her end it says that I failed to respond and on my end it just keeps waiting endlessly. Friend has a Mac also, not sure which one but just purchased in late 2005 so quite new, running OS 10.4.4.
I have a Mac Mini. Just updated to OS 10.4.4 today, 1/28/06, which at least seemed to take care of my previous issue! (iChat was quitting just after startup, every time I opened it).
I found Ralph's post to another user with a similar issue from earlier today, and will go ahead and answer the questions as they apply to my situation.:
    +Ralph wrote: ++
It may not be a bandwidth issue but it may be a port setting somewhere.
    So, What modem ?
    -->Cable modem: Cisco 575 LRE
What ports if any have you enabled ?
-->internal modem, built-in ethernet, and built-in firewire. These ports are checked, and appear, in this order. I don't have Airport (haven't downloaded it) or Bluetooth at all since I don't have wireless internet.
Have you got the Mac Firewall On ?
-->No, nothing checked under Firewall at all.
Have you set ports for iChat as there is no Preset ?
-->Do not know how to do this.
Have you changed the Quicktime Streaming Speed to match your Download ?
--> I believe so. I did the test and the speed varied between 550 and 890, so I changed Quicktime streaming speed to 512. We both restarted our computers and tried again but problem was still there.
What is the setting you have in iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down (It should be NONE) ?
--> It is NONE and has always been.
Are either of you using any iChat Add-ons ?This will effect the Intel end as they will not work in Universal and iChat will need to be run in Rosetta.
--> I don't know what these would be so I assume I am not using them. In any case we are both using Macs.
This is the latest in a long saga of iChat problems so any help is greatly appreciated!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Ok,
This is for the Mac Firewall.
Go to System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall tab.
In the list of items (services and apps) - hover the mouse over any item.
This will bring up a little yellow dialogue box which will list the ports that could be opened if that item is selected.
The ports are just a means of seperating that diiferent data out that happens to go in an out of your computer to other places (internet or computers) or to devices such as printers and scanners.
Web browsing in always on port 80
Mail can be on port 110, 443 and some others specified by the mail servers such as Googlemail which insists you set up ports 578.
You will find there is a preset for iChat Bonjour with ports 5297 and 5298 set up. However it is a hold over from Panter and lists the protocol as TCP.
This a show an see info post to this point.
If you run your Mac with the Firewall On then you will need to make a setting for icaht AV as there is no preset.
This is where the Apge 4 link, instructions and pic comes in.
    Use the New Button
Select Other from the top drop down.
    Type 5190, 5298, 5220, 5222, 5223 in the TCP line
    Type 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5678, 16384-16403 in the UDP line
Enter a name for this entry in the Description line
    Hit the OK button.
    Now read page 3
This resates the ports needed and the jobs they do for iChat.
These ports (openings in the modem) need to be enabled in the modem.
It can be done in three ways (depending on the functions of your modem)
UPnP is and On/Off settings that lets the App control when the ports are open and which ports it needs. It allows multiple computers to use those ports at the same time
Port Triggering is a form of Network Address Translation (NAT) that set a single port as the trigger for more ports to be open if data arrives on that port.
This also allows multiple computers to use the ports.
Port Forwarding is the oldest form of opening the ports.
It specifies which IP address the data will be sent to and therefore only allows one cmputer to use the ports.
(DMZ is an extreme form of this that opens all the ports to 0ne device).
http://portforward.com/routers.htm This site is a good place to find out the Default IP addres of the modem and the Default USer ID and Passwords it may have. (It also porvides instructions and Pics on how to do Port Forwarding based on the application.
See if your modem is listsed.
Click on it and choose iChat from the next page list.
Study the pics to see if you can see where the UPnP items is if your modem has it. (it may not be in sight)
Use the default info to access your modem and look around. They will work like web pages.
If you have UPnP enable it.
If not post back with your Progress

  • IChat Video Chat Invite Issues

On iChat i will send and invitation it will not show i sent one and my friends dont get them. I also cannot receive the invites. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

All i could find about uninstalling iChat pro.
"You see where in the installer it has a warning notice to the effect of, "Make a backup of iChat.app first. This will be the only way to restore the default contact list."? Yeah. So if you didn't, have fun digging out your Mac OS X DVD. Pacifist will help you extract just the iChat installer, I suspect."
    To reinstall iChat.
Put in your install disk 1(the disk that came with your mac or the Leopard install DVD) then after the disk has opened double click on "Optional installs" then double click on the "Optional installs.mpkg".
Then when you get to "Custom install......." click on the triangle by appications and then tick iChat and then continue with the install.
When done download and install the 10.6.2 combo to bring iChat back up to date.

  • IChat AV quits when video chat invitee responds

I have been trying to have a video conference with my daughter for the last few days. If she is available, I send her a video chat invitation.
She gets the invitation, but as soon as she accepts it, iChat quits. We've had a lot of video chats in the past with few problems. This is something that seems to have started just in the last few days.
Anyone have a similar problem? What's the fix?

    Ok,
Get her to go to her Home Folder/Library/Preferences This will have to be "manually" as Spotlight will not tell what is in this folder.
She should delete com.apple.ichatAgent.plist and then restart iChat.

  • IChat 5.0.3 to AIM 7.5 video chat problems.

I could use some help, please?
I have a cousin that live in another state and she wants to video chat with me and my mom.
My mom and I have Macs with Snow Leopard and iChat 5.0.3 and my cousin has a PC with Windows 7 and AIM 7.5. Both computers are notebooks and have Webcams built-in.
Whenever we tried to send a Video chat invitation from the PC to the Mac we would get a connection error on the Mac, but when we tried the same thing the other way (Mac to PC) it would go through and we can video chat. I am trying to figure out how to make Video chat invitations work both ways, iChat -> AIM and AIM -> iChat.
I have gone as far as changing the IM server on the Mac to match the IM server on the PC. I then tried to change the IM server on the PC to match the one on the Mac and got a connection error on the PC, so I just reset them both to their defaults.
I even went as far as turning off the firewall on the PC but that didn't work either. Now I'm stuck and can't figure out what to do.
Any information you have would help me and my cousin.

    Hi,
    iChat and AIM Logins first
In iChat Preferences > Accounts Server settings the default Login in login.oscar.aol.com if you are not using the SSL option
It will add a leading s if you do and this is an automatic change (slogin.oscar....)
The Default port is 5190 but almost anything can be used (we Suggest port 443) Changing this port sometimes helps with Videos (It shouldn't but does) on some routers (Zyxels).
    iChat and Video to PCs
Firstly Video and Audio chat have nothing to do with the Login port (Although that is used for Text chats)
The AIM on PC app uses 4 ports to do the Audio and Video In and Out feeds
(iChat 3 used to).  iChat 4, 5 and 6 uses just one port to do the Video and Audio parts of the Chat (In and Out)
So iChat will send on port 16402 the SIP Invite (This is the behindf the scenes connection Process).
It uses the same port fro the A/V chat data.
If the PC starts then it sends an invite (SIP) on port 5061
When it connects it sends the data out on 2 ports from within the range 1024-5000 and asks for data back on two other ports (i.e one each for Vid in, Vid Out, Audio In and Audio out).
iChat does this by contacting a Server called SNATMAP.mac.com run by Apple just for connecting iChat Audio and Video chats.
This server helps the app negotiate the ports that are going to be used during the connection process.
    (this happens on port 5678)
Now the Mac Firewall will allow any port that iChat Uses if the Firewall is On and iChat is allowed.
The AIM app is trying to connect on port 5061 when iChat is not already using it and this is most likely where the issue is.
WIth the Visible Invite iChat is supposed to use SNATMAP and this is supposed to "take" over getting the connection established but it seems it is not that smooth.
    Possible workaround
Set the Login port to 5061 in ichat so the port is open anyway in the Mac Firewall.
Also make sure this port is allowed through your router.

I am in a chat with a friend and I send him a video chat invite, he accepts and the program goes into an error notification screen. I am currently running mac OSX Leopard using an xbox live vision camera for video support, he is using windows and has no coamera, help?

On your end, Have you done the following?
iChat>Preferences>Video>Bandwidth limit: None (500kbps if Verizon, Road Runner or Comcast)

  • Can't start Screen Sharing, Video Chat, or Audio Chat

    Hi there,
I've been through countless Apple Discussion and other website threads, but I can't figure this out.
I just got my dad a brand-new iMac with Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on it. I'm using a MacBook Pro, also with 10.8.3 on it. We're both using the Messages app, signed into our respective Google Talk accounts (not Apple IDs with Google email addresses).
But for the both of us, "Invite to Video Chat," "Invite to Audio Chat," and "Share Screen With..." are grayed out in the Buddies menu, even though both of us have "Video Chat Enabled," "Audio Chat Enabled," and "Screen Sharing Enabled" checked off. I unchecked the option to consolidate the various Buddy Lists in the Messages > Preferences > General pane, and when I go to my Gmail account's Buddy List, I see the four buttons underneath the list (with my dad's name highlighted), but only the "A" button is clickable--not the other buttons for Audio (the phone icon), Video (the camera icon), or Screen Sharing (the two rectangles layered over one another icon).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this (short of using a completely different method of screen sharing)?

    HI,
On your GoogleMail Page pull down your own Name/ID
    Click Account
    Choose "Products" from Menu.
Enable "Talk" (Sign in to Dashboard far right)
This is separate from the settings to actions on the Web Mail Page accessed in the Settings icon.
However I am not sure if the setting absent there if TALK has not been enabled as it was done some time ago for for me as well.
Jabber apps can have  Priority Setting to allow people to be logged in via several devices and be sure a messages goes to the right device at the time.
iChat version 3 through 5 had the same Priority as the Web Browser login and would stop text Messages getting through.
iChat would show the Buddy still on line if they were logged in via the web page at a later stage
but the Video and Audio green icons would disappear from the Buddy List and the icons at the bottom would be greyed out.
Messages has a default priority of 0 compared to iChat's 23.
However I have never managed to work out which end of the scale outranks the other.
Essentially logging in to Google Mail web page to Check things is likely to stop the ability to Video chat.
This is because Jabber app use a Protocol  called Jingle to connect and this is not compatible with the SIP iChat and Messages uses.
It is included in the Web Browser Plug-in you can get from Google.
The default setting for the Bandwidth setting is the NONE one.
However it can pay to set it to 500kbps.
This helps when  internet speeds that are faster vary too much for the Buffering in iChat and Messages to work.
In broad terms a 5% variance in a 10Mbps download speed can be 500kbps.
Forcing Message to only use 500kbps is fast enough for 4 way video chats but is well below any variance interference.
It can also help where the ISP slows the connection as it thinks it is a Peer-to-Peer file sharing event.
Video and Audio chats (including Screen Sharing) are peer-to-Peer connections.

  • Video chat between iChat Mac user and AIM pc user?

Me and my friend are attempting to video chat with each other via iChat for him and AIM for me. He is using iChat version 4.0.2 and I am using AIM version 6.8.10.1. When we send an video chat invitation it says that it timed out, could not connect. It sometimes kicks him off iChat, according to him. Can anyone help us solve this issue? Ty!

AIM said this about AIM 6.5 http://www.aim.com/helpfaq/starting_out/getstarted.adp#608
There is no information that they have posted that says AIM 6.8 is any better.
Some say it will work (AIM in General that is)
This is certainly needed http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page12.html#_Service to allow the app through the Windows Firewall.
In the AIM Preferences you will also have to select the camera in the Enhanced IM tab
The Mic should be selected in the control Panels as a System wide thing.
AIM since before AIM 5.9 has used port 1024-5000 as well as the Login on port 5190 and there is no reason to suspect it is any different now.
These ports will need to be allowed or open in your routing device.

  • I can't see the person I am video chatting with...please help me

I am using IChat with my iMac. My mother is using AIM (newest version) on her Windows PC.
She or I can initiate the video chat invitation. However, once the video chat starts she can see me on her monitor but I can not see her on mine. On my monitor all I see is what MY built-in isight camera shows me (ie myself).
Any help as to why I only see myself and not her? Is it a problem on my end or hers? Thanks.

    Hi
Your post seems to have gone unnoticed by the regular problem solvers, so I'll bump it up the list with a request for clarification.
You say your mother is using the latest version of AIM on her PC. If that means AIM Triton, it won't work. She needs AIM 5.9 instead. She will also need to enable AIM through the Windows XP firewall.
If that's not the problem, try to give a bit more info on the set-up - make of modem, connection speed, etc.

  • Can't Video Chat, but Audio Works Great

Hey guys....I have been trying my hardest to get my IChat video feature up and running.
The audio works great when conferencing and obviously the im works fine. Myself and the person I am trying to video chat with both are using AIM through IChat. Here is the error message I am getting -
2009-04-06 13:53:14 -0400: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds.
Audio channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.3:16402, expecting remote machine to send to 173.66.213.133:16402
Video channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.3:16402, expecting remote machine to send to 173.66.213.133:16402
If I restart my IChat and send a video chat invitation I can initially see the person on the other end. But, the picture then freezes (almost instantly) and then I get the error message.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Two possible things.
    1) Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and set the speed to 1.5Mbps and relaunch iChat so it "sees" the new speed.
    2) Check your modem/router for any DoS (Denial of Service) or SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) feature and turn it Off.
    Examples
Netgears have either DOS or SPI in the WAN Page
Netopias have this Feature as part of the Firewall when you use a setting higher than Low.
Linksys tend to have the same in the firewall in the Security tab.
Basically they can be anywhere in the set up pages as the manufacturers never put them in the same place.
Both features examine incoming data to see if it is an attack.
In an iChat video chat so much data can be sent from higher speed processors over high speed inter net connections that it is regarded by DOS as a attack.
SPI tries to evaluate the validity of the data and tend to get overwhelmed (Simplified view).
192.168.1.3 looks more like an IP from a Linksys than the other two examples.

  • IChat quits whenever I try to video chat...

Every time I send somebody a video chat invitation or someone else sends me one, iChat quits and I get a message that said "iChat quit unexpectedly...". Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

    Hi,
Download and Install the COMBO version of the OS Update
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1057comboupdate .html
This can be run over what you have and will often correct things like this.
Don't throw the .dmg away afterwards as if this does not work you will probably need to Reinstall iChat and will need it at the end of that Process.
