VIDEO CHAT: MAC TO PC VIA AIM -- "I AM NOT RESPONDING"

Hi:
I have a new Mac Mini with the latest versions of Tiger and iChat. My internal firewall is disabled. I have a mac.com address and am trying to video chat with an AIM user on Windows (she has an AIM.com address). The Windows user has her firewall (both internal and router) disabled and all the appropriate ports opened.
I see that many, many others are having the same problem that I am having. Specifically, that when I initiate a video chat and the AIM user accepts, we receive an error message stating that I (the person what iniated the video chat in the first place) "did not respond."
However...I am able to connect via video chat with the test address [email protected] and the video (in both directions) works perfectly.
Given this, I have two questions:
1. Since I can successfully connect with [email protected], can I assume that everything from my side (including router ports) are properly working?
2. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Thanks.
Sal

Hi SAL,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
I notice that you Add @aim.com to the AIM names.
Did you do this in iChat as it is not needed. Actually adding the @mac.com is also not needed when adding an .mac users name.
Has the PC user worked through this info ? They need to do the "Tuning" at least from the first yellow box. and set up their XP firewall from the second.
I have seen people report that they have problems if the XP firewall is turned Off completely. (not connect)

  • One-way video chat with iSight on Mac to PC via AIM

I recently bought an iSight camera for my powerbook G4. I am having trouble getting a video chat connected to my friend who is using AIM 5.5 on his PC. I am using AIM 4.7 for macintosh. Are there any tips on getting a one way video chat started?? he doesn not have a webcam

    Hello Ivy,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your PC pal should upgrade to the current AIM 5.9. If fixes some of 5.5's problems.
AIM for Mac has no video (or audio) capability). More info in the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ.
See Using iSight with iChat AV for info on how to use your iSight for video chat.
Then, see Mac Video Chat with PCs for info on making video connections with PCs.
For more information on one-way video, search your Mac's
    b iChat > Help > iChat Help
for "one-way video" (without the quotation marks).
The requirements for one-way video are the same as for two-way video except for one camera.
One-way video between an iSight-equipped Mac and a correctly configured PC is possible for most users. However, some users report that they can just NEVER get it to work. We do not know why that is. Adding any compatible USB webcam to the PC system (and "tuning" correctly after the addition) should let you make video connections if you are one who cannot make it work without a camera.

  • Video chat Mac to PC

Ok, we want to video chat from our MAC's to a family member on a PC. Both have cable modems. Is it possible or should I buy a MAC Mini for them to use. We need to get set up in a couple of weeks. Your thoughts and help is appreciated.

    Hi Mike,
    iChat to PC is Possible.
There are the links and info in the Link EZ Jim gave you.
There is also an FAQ here Ralph Johns (UK), "FAQ 1: How do I Get Video and Audio Chats with PCs ?", 02:13pm Jul 25, 2004 CDT
    And my "Girlfriend" page http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html
AIM for Windows is one Application and Trillian is another
Both need Enabling through the XP firewall as shown on my page 12.
Having said that if you can convert them ....

  • Video chats - sometimes works, most of the time does not

98% of the time i either invite a buddy to video chat, or they invite me, we get an error message stating that the invitation was declined, or some other communication error. 2% of the time i can successfully video chat. i am confused as to why it works sometimes, and not others.
i've read countless stories of similar situations in these pages, and have attempted all of the recommendations, none of which have improved the situation.
comcast high speed cable is my ISP, and we use a netgear router. the problem ocurrs regardless of whether my mac is hardwired or using airport.
    any help is appreciated.

The Mac Firewall in Leopard has three settings
Allow All which is effectively Off
Allow Essentials which allows certain prescribed services only.
And Allow Specific Applications and Services. You need to add whichever things you want to work with the internet by application or service even if it uses a port you know is used by something else.
For instance - If you had iChat and AdiumX both of which log on to the AIM servers on port 5190 by default you have to allow both apps in the Specific Section list (the same if you change their Login ports both to 443
Now there seems to have been a problem at the OS 10.5 to 10.5.1 change over.
It seems that the OS is holding on to the 10.5 setting (which in fact may not be working at all)
Therefore use the - sign at the bottom of the list to remove any item that was there before the 10.5.1 update and then set the firewall to Allow All and then set it back again and use the + sign to re-add applications.
The Firewall will work on whichever connection the Mac has to the next device in line, towards the internet.
    Thanks for the points

  • How can I salvage an iPad Mini that will not restart, reset or respond to Recover phase via iTunes and is not responding to any functions and will not access Home? Thanks

I have an iPad mini that will not respond and is non functional.  It continues to intermittently try to automatically restart, access home page without success.  It will not accept normal charge. I have tried to manually restart, reset and have been unsuccessful.  It will not allow a Recover attempt via iTunes as well.  Do you have any suggestions before I consider a replacement?  Thanks.

    Hello RC MD,
It seems you are unable to restore your iPad to factory settings, and it is not responding to power. Based on the information you have provided, it appears your iPad may need to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • Mac OS X10.8.5 Firefox crashes- Not responding

    Hello.
Firefox accessed from doc & from Finder is not responding. Toolbar & FF (Firefox) browser window slowly opens to white unaccessible browser screen. Must force quit to close FF. Tested FF with different user on same computer and it works fine. Crash has been consistent & unchanged over the last 3 days.
Got lost in Library FF Profiles and could not locate the file that online support-thread said should be deleted. Did a Re-installed Firefox (tried anyway), dumped cache files and ALL plug-ins. Still FF (and Safari) would not open.
Safari browser was crashing at the same time and found that an alias needed to be place on Dock since the Dock link does not update like the Safari app link did in Finder. Safari is operational now.
Crash report is not appearing in FF crash report file only 1 months old crash report. Had no optionto send report to Firefox, but auto sent to Apple,
In added link = This is a copy/ past of "problem report"? automatically sent to Apple at each FF crash.
FF provided troubleshooting.xpi file will not open (no program to open with o Mac) and cannot access FF browser Help to provide further info.

  • Trying to re-install mac office 2011 (downloaded dmg) but installer "not responding"

My Mac Word 2011 seems corrupted, so I downloaded a dmg (from my Amazonm Software account {I purchased the 2011 Office package on Amazon in 2011}) in order to try to re-install.  Interestingly, the downloaded dmg is a file named "Office_Mac_Home_and_Student_2011_1_User_3_Installs_OLD_VERSION_Downloader.dmg" .
The problem is that the installer doesn't work.  It hangs every time with a "not responding" message appearing in the "force quit" window.
I should be able to get some help from Microsoft, I suppose, but don't know who to call at microsoft.  By thye way, I have never hade to reinstall any software bought over the web (so that i do not have any DVD copy) so this is probably more confusijg to me because of that.  Thanks.
I am using Snowleopard on an iMac

Why not simply re-download directly from Microsoft's website? Seems much easier going right to the source rather than using a reseller? Also if you have been backing up you can also restore from Time Machine which would be the easiest solution. Either way you will need the MS's install codes for re-installing the app.
BTW locating MS's download site took all of a second to research using Google. I searched for Office for Mac download and found:

  • My ical is set up for all Birthdays which are set up for "yearly" to give an alert 2 days before the date. The alert appears on my Mac and ipod(via mobile me) but not on either of my ipads. If I change the Birthday setting to 'once' then the alert appears

Tried setting birthdays on the Mac first but still no joy.

If you have been using the mac.com Apple ID to make iTunes purchases recently, then there should be no issues continuing to use it with the new iPhone. I would abandon the new ID as you will never get Apple to merge the two IDs. I have had a mac.com ID for years and continue to use it with my iPhone 4S.
Tell us the issues that you encounter trying to set up the iPhone with the mac.com account.

  • Mac 10.5.8 browsers crashing – applications not responding

    Hello,
I'm having big problems with my Mac 10.5.8. I tried verifying the disk on Disk Utliity but no errors showed up.
Basically, my browsers (Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome) crash as soon as they are opened. Some other application stop responding as I'm using them and I have to force quit. The computer as a whole is very very slow to respond.
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. I need this computer for work.
    Thank you!

I am having the same problem. It's been happening for several months. Firefox, Safari and Chrome all crash. I've avoided updating them and in fact went back a couple versions in Firefox, but no change. I can be working on Firefox for an hour or for 30 seconds. Either way, it just crashes. I can immediately restart it, and it will work for an hour or 30 seconds.
No visible pattern, and it is not website specific.
    I am running a MacBook with 10.5.8 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Connected to internet via ethernet but server not responding

I have browsed some threads on this topic but none gave me an answer, and my set up is not quite the same as those that I've read. I don't want to hijack another thread and confuse the readers. I would be very grateful for help on this issue.
I have connected a G3 imac to a G5 imac with ethernet cable and both are configured for file sharing following the instrauctions on this help site. Both machines communicate and file sharing is okay.
Now I want to share the dial-up internet connection of the G3 with G5 over this ethernet connection. I have configured both machines following instructions on this site. At the moment file and web sharing is enabled on both machines.
In sharing preferences/internet internet sharing is turned on on the host (the one connected to the internet)
In sharing/firewall personal web-sharing is checked on both machines
In built-in-ethernet/TCP/IP config IPv4 is off on both, although i have tried it with IPv4 set to using DHCP on the host, and then on both
    No proxies are set
I have tried it with Appletalk both on and off on both machines
In network status internal modem is at the top of the list on the host and ethernet is at the top on the guest and both say that they are connected to the internet. The ethernet appears as connected to the internet with green light even when the host computer is not connected to the internet.
Yesterday I was able to browse using IE in windows XP running on virtual PC on the guest (G5) but this is the only time it's worked and I don't know what i did for that to happen. I only wanted to run a software activation on the G5 but the message unable to establish a connection appears.
I followed the help in virtual PC to share the Macs internet connection with windows, but havn't been able to connect to internet using the browsers on the OS X system. Tried altering browser preferences as well with no joy.
Everything works fine on the G3
I don't know where to go next.

  • Mac hotter, strange sound, and internet browser "not responding"

    Dear Mac experts and users,
I bought my MacBook (OS X 10.4.9) in January, 2007.
Recently, some following problems happened that I would like to ask you for helps.
    1. The battery sometimes stops charging at 97% power until power supply was cut and recharged.
    2. As a cycle of about 20 min, the machine sounds "ton...ton" like a small sound caused by a finger flicking on a lastic sheet. The left side of the computer become hotter during working time.
    3. I can not open a website containing a Java application or server like 3-D molecule shows or sonething like that although Java Web start .app and other Java plug-ins are available in the Mac Library. I have re-installed the latest Java updates from Apple but the situation is not improven.
    4. When I open a site with much data like a whole genome sequence from GenBank, FireFox completely freezes, Safari slows down and machine become noisy with sound like its fans.
That's all I feel think torubles to my Mac. Please share with me your experiences and tell me what should I do.
    Thank you!

      Mac OS X (10.4.9)   MacBook/Intel Core 2 Dual 2.0 GHz/RAM 1.0 GB/HDD 80 HB

    Hi Vliet, Philsmith, and others,
Thank you for your kind suggestions.
My MacBook is equiped with a RAM of 1 GB. There is still 53 GB free in the HDD. Usually, using Activity Monitor to check, I see that free memory during working time is small (less than 100 MB) but with a not much percentage of CPU used.
I have a version of OnlyX installed and run in my computer. Could you please show me any kind of Hardware Test application?
    Best regards,

  • I just bought a mac desk top and the mouse does not respond

    the mouse doesn't respond

From the info you list, is this an older iMac running 10.5.8?  What kind of mouse, wired or wireless?  If wireless make sure the batteries are fresh, then you need to go to System Preferences, Bluetooth and go through the steps for your mouse to make it discoverable by the computer.
