Video chat: no sound when I initiate the session

iMac G5, 10.4.9.
strangest thing: when I initiate an iChat video session, I can see the other person, they can see me, but no sound from either party.
when that same person initiates the session, we can see AND hear each other fine.
thoughts?

When iChat is Open go to the Video menu.
Is Microphone Enabled Selected ?
In System Preferences > Sound > Input tab is the Correct input device selected ?
When you talk does the blue response bar move to at least 1/2 way (3/4 is better) Slide the volume control to the right.
Along with that in iChat > Preferences > Video Section in the Microphone drop down is the same device selected ?

The warning about the warranty is light hearted, I think at one stage it warned "here be dragons" but also intended to make us think as it warns that making changes may produce problems.

Have you turned up the volume?
Try the buttons, or the bottom audio slider.
Does your phone normally play audio?
And have you tried to record and audio note to check if your microphone is not faulty.

You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

I'm getting a random beep sound when I hit the input button to record a turntable

I'm getting a random beep sound when I hit the input button to record a turntable & mixer plugged into the mbox thats bleeding into the recording. How can I stop this? Please help me. It's happening if I'm recording or not, as soon as I hit the (I) input it beeps randomly.

Seems to be this song. Other projects don't have this issue.
I even took and opened the project on another computer, bounced it again and got the same "click" at the same 13 second area.
I've bounced each track solo, listened and NO click at the 13 sec. mark
No third party plug-ins.
The click doesn't land close to any beginning or end of a region.
Final mix down looks good, no peaking over 0db.
This is making me nuts!

If I wiped my phone I wouldn't have the contacts on my phone to send to my self. I would need to take just the contacts from my back up. I would have to do this through iTunes and I don't see how I can just extract the contacts only from my back up. From what I can figure out it is all or nothing

I too have an iPad smart cover, and all that clicking sound is is basically the standard lock sound for iOS. The Smart cover is equipped with magnets inside, and the iPad is also equipped with magnets, and when those magnets are closed together the iPad goes to sleep.
