Hi Brooks Bennett1,
Unfortunately Error 8 covers so many possible problems in set up and connections.
It's first area to check is if the Ports are open that iChat uses. This means in your Mac Firewall if ON and in any connection devices.
Mac Firewall in Second Pic
These same ports need to be opened in your Modem and any separate router you go through.
How these ports are opened can also have a bearing. Port Forwarding, Port Triggering and DMZ are likely to use the NAT function of the device.
Sometime the device at each end does not like the way the other does NAT (There are about 6 ways to do it).
See here for options http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page15.html#CertainBuddy
From your Log it seems you are getting invites through.
This suggests that port 5678 is open.
The process then moves to port 5060 This could be the problem as although the log lists it is preparing to try the right ports there is no mention of "Trying" or "Ringing" to say the SIP part of the connection is getting through.
SIP is an internet protocol used in iChat and VoIP applications or hardware. (Phones over the internet)
It uses port 5060 as an International standard.
If you have SIP/VoIP hardware like a Vonage adapter in the "wrong" order for iChat it will fail.
It will also fail if your ISP offers a VoIP service and expects you to pay more for it.
Some modems are SIP aware and can 'strip off' so to speak any SIP data thinking it is for a Phone and give you strange intermittent looking problems.
Summary,
Check ports.
Check method used to open ports and change if you can to UPnP to avoid NAT issues.
Check if your ISP offers a VoIP Phone service.
Check your placement of VoIP equipment you have. Place it behind any router at the same level as the computer.
(Modem <-> Router <-> Computer and VoIP adapter on different ports. Do not put it in line.)
Occasionally Error-8 can refer to the Internet Streaming speed in System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab being set to Automatic. It should match your download speed or a max of 1.5Mbps/T1/LAN as the Automatic returns a zero to iChat.

  • Google Chat/Video Chat not compatible with Apple PPC

I have a G3 B/W Mac upgraded with a G4 Sonnet Processor. My unit operates on OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. Google states that the minimum Mac operating system for their Chat/Video Chat plugin is 10.4. But when I try to install their plugin, it states that the plugin does not support a Mac PPC even though it is operating on the minimum operating system. Does anyone know why?

For the "YayWho" on the Gmail Discussion who implied that the only reason we are complaining is because we want something for Nothing and Google is putting a lot of effort behind this venture. I am a Stroke Survivor on a limited income. My B/W G3 PPC is fully functional and I could not afford to dump my Mac and replace it. I would be OK with just having the Chat feature. But there are a lot of US, PPC Users. If the minimum Operating System requirement is Mac OS X 10.4, Google should support any and all hardware that use the OS X 10.4.x platform. It is too bad Google takes this position. I thought they were better

  • Canon T3i download cable will no longer work after 10.10 download. Plugging the cable into the 15 inch laptop says not compatible with software. Was fine before the 10.10 upgrade.

10.10 is installed. Now when plugging the download cable in from my wife Canon T3i camera to my wifes 15 inch Apple laptop it says not compatible with the software. Worked fine before the 10.10 upgrade. However I CAN download my pictures from my Canon 6D camera to MY 15 inch Apple laptop.....

I have a DSC-T1 Sony camera. I also have a Panasonic video camera with a built in digital camera. I just took some shots with the Panasonic. Plugged it in, and it worked perfectly. iphoto opened and did what it was supposed to do. I then tried the Sony and nothing happened again. Maybe this is a problem with the mac not recognizing certain cameras...?????

  • Anyone have a fix for Facebook video chat not working in Mavericks?

I have seen many people having the problem of video chat not working in Facbook since upgrading to Mavericks. The good news is the camera icon has reappeared, but it still is not working.
    Any help would be AWESOME!!
    thx

    Hi,
If it is in Messages it will need to be Messages to Messages.
i.e. a Mac Buddy also using iChat or Messages to do Jabber Video chats in the app.
This means it will not connect to someone using a Jabber app that can do Video or the web Page login and using "chat" from there.
I believe the Web Browser method with Facebook's own end to end connection use Flash.
You may need to update a version of Flash if your have it or install it if you do not.
FaceTime would not connect to the Jabber connections that Facebook is running.
FaceTime is it's own service and does not connect to others.
Messages and FaceTime are run on different servers and you can in fact run different IDs in each.
(this can causes issues when your Invoke a FaceTime Video Chat from Messages which presumes the Contact is using the same ID).

  • IChat - audio and video chats not working to the UK

I'm trying to do an audio and/or video chat with my Mum who lives in the UK. We're both using the same version if iChat A/V (3.1.5)
However, we've been unable to succesfully connect. Whether she invites me to a chat or I her, we both get a message saying the other person failed to respond, even though we're both accepting the invitation.
I have no problem audio/video chatting to anyone else and it also work with my Mum through Skype or Yahoo Messenger.
    Any ideas?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Then ask Verizon what the issue is and why there is no option for calendar.

Am I right to assume that this means that the video in not compatible with compiz? Or could it be some settings that need to be tweaked.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Rick

Are you 100% sure? I just run glxinfo and it says:
    direct rendering: Yes
And I'm confused. Are there any chances of getting compositing to work on SiS card in this case?
I'm not the expert here, but compiz can work with indirect rendering, so I don't think that's the qualifier for if it works for your system.

  • What video chat is supported with the PowerBook G4(leopard) PPC 10.5.8 Plz help!!

What video Chat is supported with the PowerBook G4 (leopard) PPC 10.5.8 plz help

iChat works with AOL and ICQ. Note if you get ahold of an original Firewire iSight, those work well with iBook G3s, iBook G4s, iMac G3s, G4s, Powermac G4s and Powerbook G4s to the following limitations
    http://web.archive.org/web/20050301024002/http://www.apple.com/isight/
    ISPq is another
    http://www.ispq.com/
and they may be able to recommend some webcams that were available for those older Macs. This statement about the built-in iSight only applies if you have a second machine other than the Powerbook G4. If your machine has a built-in iSight like the later iMac G5s, and iMac Intel, MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro, all you need is an AOL account to hook up to video chat via iChat software pre bundled with your Mac. Newer Intel Macs may support video chat with Windows machines more easily thanks to their ability to virtualize Windows.   If your friends have MSN, or Netmeeting, that gets a little more hairy with PowerPC Macs, but not necessarily impossible as http://homepage.mac.com/john_kenn/video.html explains.

  • Messages doesn't work with AIM

I've been trying out the beta.  Messages isn't working with AIM (will not connect and stubbornly remains Offline).  It seems to work fine with text chat with other Messages users and no problems with FaceTime either.  But I have some friends on AIM I like to chat with and also a couple of people I sometimes help via screen sharing and it is annoying not to be able to get the AIM part to connect.

Yes,  enabling and disabling the AIM account (sometimes it takes doing it a few times) seems to work.  And I found elsewhere that opening activity monitor and killing off the imagent process (which then automatically relaunches) seems to work as well.  Those workarounds are not permanent solutions for me though.  As soon as the iMac is either restarted or shut down and then turned back on...  Messages seems to be right back at square one with not being able to connect to AIM unless I use the workaround again.  I just hope Apple can figure out what is going on and fix the app before it goes final.

SIgn in with your Apple ID, the same one you used to access this support forum.
Hopefully, you will see a list of all the devices you registered with your Apple ID, including their serial numbers. Let me know how this works out.
Edit to add: If you enabled "find my imac" on your Pro, you ought to be able to remotely lock it, or even wipe its memory. Click http://www.icloud.com/ sign in with your Apple ID and click the big green "find my iPhone" icon (nevermind the name, it will find all your devices provided they're running Lion or iOS 5).
Then file a police report and nail the b*****d.

You're using Exchange Active Sync to synchronize contacts and calendars with your company Exchange Server. If the default calendar/address books are set to the Exchange account, it will sync automatically. This is normal.
Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars to change the default address book and calendars to a something else, iCloud or something synced from your home computer instead.

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop ("CS5" won't do for instance; we would need CS5 vers 12.0.2 or whatever) and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

  • Hello I bought Lightbox4 but it was not compatable with XP which was on my computer so I bought Wind

Hello I bought Lightbox4 but it was not compatable with XP which was on my computer so I bought Windows 7 now it works fine, I also have Photoshop Elelements 11, I was using CS3 which I like very much, I have just tried  tore- download it again and the message I have is that the Installer is corrupt, is there anything I can do? I can not afford to buy it again can you help?

You can download legacy versions from here:
Direct Download Links for Adobe Software
Just make sure you are obeying the correct install order - older versions must be installed before newer stuff, i.e. your CS3 must be installed before LR4 and PSE 11. in fact your corruption error could be just that - the CS3 envcountering stuff it doesn't understand because it is newer than itself.
