Video chat quality degrades after few minutes

I've recently added a new buddy to my list. I've been video chatting for a long time now and I had no problems with that. ALL the preferences - QT streaming, iChat bandwidth - are set as they should be. But the video conference with this new friend is a tragedy. I loose his image after 2-3 minutes (though the sound remains OK). The funny point is, I have a faster internet connection than he has, yet everything is great on his side. He has no image quality problems with me that's why I thought there is got to be something strange going on. Are there any other settings I have to change? Or is it just my friend's issue? My connection speeed is 1 Mbps and my friend's is 512 Kbps. Please help.
PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi Sleezee Tycoon,
It should not be the Automation or the one that says just LAN/Intranet as both these return figures to IChat that can not be used.
512k is ok but we have been suggesting 1.5Mbps/T1/LAN as there are so many variables out there.
The iChat Bandwidth Limit should be NONE.
The only time I have it work with a less setting is over a fibre connection.

  • Video chat breaks down after a few seconds

    Hi. I need help.
iChat video chat breaks down after a few seconds. Audio is ok if I begin with it, but doesn't work after a failed video chat. The message that pops up afterwards tells me (in Swedish) that "No data was received during the last 10 seconds. Info about audio channel: local machine uses [IP]:16402 and expects remote machine to send to 83.xxx.xxx.xx:43787." Repeats the same for video channel. What am I to do with the network settings to make this work. I have now realized that this is not a software problem (since upgrading to 10.6/iChat 5.0 didn't solve anything) so it must be the router or my new Time Capsule's settings. But where do I start?
    Thank you in advance,
    Rikard

Hi and thanks for your help,
I have now had a chance to try the chat again, works fine at first but after say 3-5 minutes the connection breaks in the same fashion as before, unfortunately.
One thing I noticed when flicking on Back to my Mac (just to try it for fun in Snow Leopard - it's never worked for me!) it first turned green, after which it said the familiar: that my router must be capable of UPnP or NAT-PNP. Funny, that was what I thought I had... Could this be connected to the iChat problem do you think?
About the NAT tab: it is really gone when Bridge mode is on, but it reappears when I change from Bridge mode, and when I did it really was on (by default?). I turned it off and changed back to Bridge mode. I have switched off ping as you said. No port scan or DOS/SPI switch anywhere.
I found a iChatConnectionError Log in my Library folder, here it is. Can you read anything from it? Sorry if I quote too much of it.
Thank you ever so much for your help and patience!!!
    Cheers,
    Rikard

  • When I play any video with any player, it stops after few minutes

When I want to play any video it stops after few minutes as freeze. Sometimes it continues without sound and others stops completly. I try to play it with more than one players, but same.
    The video it's .mkv
    I tried with:
    - Quicktime X with Perian

      - Mplayer OS X Extended

You should probably take it to the closest apple retail store and have someone at the genuis bar help you. If you dont want to do that you should probably purchase a software or use a free trail version of one to run a virus check.Ive found that Mcfee is a good virus scan program.

  • When I am in a chat on ichat, every few minutes ichat will crash, stating that there was no data transmission

When I am in a chat on ichat, every few minutes ichat will crash, claiming that no data was being transmitted for x-number of minutes...anyone know what to do about this.

    Hi,
I doubt iChat is Crashing as Crashing is to Quit Unexpectedly rather than a Video or Audio Only chat coming to an abrupt end.
Also the Message is "NO Data received for 10 secs" not minutes.
Can you be specific about when in the chat the message appears ?
If it appears before you even manage to see the person at the other end it will most likely be a "protection" feature of your modem or router.
If you see and hear the other person for a while then it is likely  your Internet connection is not that stable.
Try setting the Bandwidth setting in the  iChat Menu >Preferences > Video section to 500kbps at both ends.

  • Macbook Air 11" shuts down after few minutes running

My Macbook Air 11" from mid 2012 shuts down after few minutes running, it is a laptop with very light use. The first time this happen was trying to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, after this I read it was maybe an overheating and definitely the case was hot, after this I placed the computer right in front the AC to finish the upgrade, finally I successfully upgrade the OS but the problem continue. I bring my Mac to service and now they said it is a Video Card problem, it doesn't make to much sense for me. Can somebody let me know if this could be a Video Card problem?

At what point is the shutdown occuring? As soon as you launch the install app?
If so, I would trash the install app file, and re-download it.
First, you might try running a Repair Permissions & a Verify Disk from the Recovery Partition. It is always a good idea to do this before any major software update/upgrade.

  • Page shows different data when saved after few minutes

    Hi,
I have a peculiar problem to describe.
I have a page which contains af:table inside af:panelCollection layout. I use a af:commandLink to drilldown to another page using setCurrentRowWithKey method.
I am able to drill down to the correct data in another page which contains data that is editable. Once after editing the page when i click save button, i am able to save the data. This is working fine.
But the problem is, once i drilled down to this edit page and edit some fields and save it after few minutes, say 5 minutes later, it is not saved. Also, the page is refreshed to bring some random record.
Can anyone let me know why is this happening and how to resolve it?
    Thanks

    Hi Timo,
Which jdev version?I am using jdev 11.1.1.3.0.
Is it possible that the data has changed (e.g. by an other user) after you drilled to the one record you want to change? There is a possibility that the data can be changed by other user as well. But, for the time being we have implemented for the single user environment.
When you click save after some time, do you get any error (on the screen or in the logs)?Yes. On the screen, it is displayed as "oracle.jbo.JboException: Document type mismatch (source INVOICE, type Sales)". It is a validation exception thrown at viewRowImpl level by me. But it validates the data perfectly when saved immediately after editing
Which session timeout do you have configured in your web.xml?Session-timeout is given as 240
Have you tried your use case with the HR schema?Yes. when i reproduce the situation in HR schema, it is getting saved perfectly
    Regards

This issue never happened before with IOS 5 since I bought the new phone in Oct 2011.

We suffered the imap.gmail.com server problem After an IoS 6 upgrade. The simple solution is to delete the problem account, shut down the iPad, start up again and reenter the account. Everything comes back normally. Good Luck everyone!

  • My iPod(4g) is slow and when i open a app, after few minutes it automatically closes and also takes about 4 minutes to enter settings app.

My iPod(4g) is slow and when i open a app, after few minutes it automatically closes

Sounds like a software issue. Back-up the iPod to a computer and then restore the software via iTunes and set it up as a new device. If it is working fine then restore your backup to the device. If it is still playing up before you put your information back on then it is most likely a faulty device, and would need a service.

    Hello psadana,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend reviewing the full article but steps in the section labeled "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" specifically stand out to me for the issue you described:

  • Anyone have a problem sending text messages being delivered after few minutes up to five minutes?

Has anyone have a problem sending text messages and the messages won't get delivered after few minutes? From time to time I would have this problem and it's annoying.  I would expect someone to receive it by then and response to my text right away.  But when I look up the text it hasn't been delivered and it's in the process.  I would hear that the message get delivered after few minutes? What gives? I never had a problem with my iphone 4 i think? Now with iOS 5 it let's me know whether it is delivered or not.  This new feature is awesome but disappointing when I know my text hasn't been delivered right away.  I'm not sure if it's the software or my iphone 4s or my carrier? anyone suggestions?  Thanks!!

I have the same problem when sending iMessages.. Wasnt sure if it was apple or Sprint? But it happens VERY often and I end up having to send it as a text message instead
