Video Chat works for a few seconds... then times out - agian

OK, this is not a knee-jerk reaction post - I have read through the discussions here, and I still don't see what's wrong.
2 computers, the one with the issue is a G4MDD with 10.4.2 installed, updated QT, updated 3.0.1 iChat, updated security updates. It is behind a single router, configured to direct traffic on the 16000 series of iChat ports. I am using a sony camcorder through the firewire port.
The error message is relatively familiar to these boards:
Audio channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.2:16386, expecting remote machine to send to 68.58.46.244:16386
Video channel info: local machine using 192.168.1.2:16384, expecting remote machine to send to 68.58.46.244:16384
Notice however, that the ports match (not strange ports) and the IPs are not double NATed. These seem pretty standard.
When we chat, the video and audio work for both of us for a relatively random period of time, then the frame freezes, and 10 seconds later it times out - giving an error and shutting down.
Once it has shut down, the good chatting computer sees the green video icon of the other as greyed out - "this user is already in another chat" until the offending computer restarts iChat.
"goodness" was determined with apple's test AV accounts. It works fine with one computer, and the problem is replicated with the offending computer.
Any help would be wonderful.

Ok this does seem to say that the ports are set up and iChat is connecting properly.
iChat also thinks there is enough bandwidth at the start and makes the connection.
Is this to a PC ? Video freezes have been seen here when connecting to faster PCs.
What you describe though sounds more like a PC that has not "Tuned" their cammera or Mic to the AIM Application.

    I had this same thing happen to me.  I was using my brand new iphone 5 (texting and listening to music through the speakers) when it flashed the apple logo, stopped my music and brought me to the lock screen.

    When i am working with video in logic 9.1, the playback freezes for a few seconds and then plays smoothly. This is irritating as when u score for movies, u cant sync the sounds. I tried converting the mov file into various formats, but still no luck. Strangely, the demos given with logic(the ones with videos) plays smoothly without the freezing.. pls help ...

    Yes , you were right. i researched on video formats and found, logic will only support uncompressed video formats. Like u said, i opened quicktime and exported my movie to DV coding. It works fine.. I also found out that, to have less CPU load, convert you video to "photo jpeg" coding.. Its smoother !!!1

  • Widgets work for a few seconds then stop!

    Recently all my widgets, default or notepad3 for example simply stop working after a few seconds in use, has anyone else experienced this, i searched all over and found terminal commands, suggestions to putting prefs in trash but i must be doing something wrong becuase the problem returns again and again.

    My problem is that i use this widget called notepad 3 and i have multiple copies open with tons of info, i have tried putting the prefs on the desktop to see whether or not notpad 3 will return but un fortunately they where all gone so i will have to back up the info then try this, so ill get back to you soon, THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP, VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

  • Video only plays for a few seconds, then freezes

    The video, which I got from the apple website, plays fine in iTunes but once I upload it to the iPod it will only play for a few seconds before freezing and becoming nonresponsive. Is this a software problem? Anyone know of a solution? Thanks.

    Here are more detailed instructions on how to go back to 1.0, espescially if you bought your iPod in the last couple of months and it came with 1.1.
    First, please download the older version of the iPod Updater here...

    Now install that updater and restart your computer.
    Now open the iPod updater (Start-->all programs-->iPod and find the iPod updater you just installed
    Open the iPod Updater and connect your iPod. With that older version of the iPod updater you just installed, restore your iPod by clicking restore.
    The iPod will restore and go back to software version 1.0. Now reload everything back into iTunes.

  • Iphone stops working for a few seconds then starts working again

    ok so i have an Iphone 3gs. the digitizer was messed up so i switched it from another iphone i have. they are both 3gs. after a while my 3gs started to lagg completely. the screen freezes and i cant do anything for a couple seconds then it starts working fine again. this has started to happen a lot. when im playing music it suddenly stops playing for a couple seconds and continues. i tried rebooting it and it didnt work. could it be the software? or the hardware? i doubt that it could be the changing of the lcd screen since the iphone completely stops working. should i try a restore?

    have you done a reset, hold down the home/poer button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.   see if that helps.

  • Video Frozen audio works for a few seconds

    Hello all heres my problem.
    Video frozen on frame navigated too with the track bar.
    Audio works for a few seconds after the track bar is used then stops.
    Timer on the side dosen't incriment only changes when the track bar is used.
    Every time the video is paused and then played again the audio starts from the
    same place and stops in the same place again
    All videos are downloaded from itunes.
    Works fine in Quicktime.
    VGA Card: GTX 480 - drivers up to date
    Processor: AMD Phenom II - Quadcore
    Itunes Version: 10.7.0.21
    The whole thing strikes me as a failure of the video to increment the current frame and not a result of the failure in the video prossessing
    the short amount of audio is proably just buffered ahead of the video for syncing reasons.
    I have no real idea though but it is my best guess.

    The phone button on my iPhone 3G no longer works. Everything else on the iPhone works fine. I can receive incoming calls. I can make calls directly from Contacts. But if I press the phone button I get a blank white screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen.     Thanks for the advice but I've tried resetting network settings and also the reset by pressing home and sleep buttons until getting the Apple logo. Still have the same problem. To be clear (because I mistakenly typed black instead of blank in the title to this thread): If I press the phone button I get a BLANK WHITE screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen. I doubt it's the SIM card as I can receive calls and make them directly from contacts. What I can't do is view my favourite numbers or missed calls or access my voicemail, i.e. all the things you get to via pressing the phone button.

    I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
    She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
    Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
    The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
    Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
    Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
    If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
    One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

    On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
    I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

    I can understand this with videos you are streaming, i.e. maybe you have a slow data connection.
    Videos on your phone should not do this.  Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
