Video chat works to one person, not to other

I am on the road w/my iBook G4. I have no trouble establishing a video chat with one person, but can't get it to work when I try to connect to my home machine. My home machine can do a video chat to someone else. it gives me a failed to connect, or the person declined the invitation message. any help?

Hi David,
These are User to User help forums.
There a limited number of Hosts who monitor the content for offensive and posts against the Term and Conditions.
There is some evidence that some information is taken from the forums and made into Knowledge Docs, but it is rare.
From the iChat menu there is a link to the iChat Feedback page and 10.4.7 now includes a log creation that you can send to Apple on certian types of connection failure.
As different modems and routers do actually use different forms of NAT (Network Address Translation) used when people use Port Forwarding, Triggering or DMZ then there can be problems with connection when the devices don't "Play Nicely".
We would ned to know more about the devices involved to comment further

I have CS6 and CC installed on my mac when I'm using CS6 and use bridge CC activates how can I set this to only work on one and not the other

If you want Bridge CS6 to open when using Photoshop CS6, you must quit Bridge CC.
Then File menu > Browse in Bridge will bring up Bridge CS6.
If Bridge CC is already open, The File > Browse in Bridge for Photoshop CS6 will use Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 will not open.
I hope that's the answer you were looking for.

  • Audio+Video Chat works but one small problem.Pls help.

    HI..
as i had posted once before in a different query's thread, i have implemented audio and video chat using AVTRansmit2 and avreceive2.
audio and video chat work well.By video chat i mean not only video but VIDEO+AUDIO as well.. just like usual yahoo video chat.
But the problem is like this:-=
I have given an option for user to switch from audio chat to video chat.
now if a user first goes to audio chat and then switched to video chat,
then the problem comes. When he's shifted to video chat i close down previous Audio chat by RTPManager.dispose() , i close the player and everything..
and then i start Video transmit/receive "ALONG WITH" audio transmit/receive..
No this time video starts but audio doesnt work ..
it says"waiting for rtp data to arrive.... "
The problem is that when this new stream of audio data comes, the receiver somehow thinks that its the same old stream since its from same transmitter IP.. and so it tries to UPDATE the previous stream.
It means there is some problem with the close method or RTPManager.dispose() which should have disposed off all the stuff much before the new connection was made.
    PLS HELP ASAP>
this is crunch time for my project.

    Hi anandreyvk . .
well, i had tried doing removetargets and also, i had disposed RTPManager well. As it turns out the problem was not with any of it but it was the problem of me incorrectly passing RTPManager from AVReceive2 to AVTransmit2.
Actually i am using just one RTPManager.. since i am receiving and transmitting on the same port.
i've solved the problem but i am not sure if this is the right way .. what do you think ??
is creating just one RTPManager {by that,i mean initializing it only once} a good idea ?? Since we are supposed to call both AVTransmit2 and AVReceive2 with the "LOCAL PORT" .. {which in itself is a matter of discussion though! } i and my project mate thought initializing RTPManager only once is a better option .
Whats your take on all of this ?

  • Video Chat works some places but not everywhere

My video chat works sometimes but it seems when I am at home it will not work with my internet? the people I am chatting with are on the same internet that they were on when it worked. Why is this? what can I change?

    Hi,
I would change the Bandwidth Setting in iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit drop down.
    Start at 500kbps
Open the Connection Doctor (Video menu) during a chat.
Try other settings but allow the Buffering to smooth out the change as seen in the Bit rate becoming stable in the Connection Doctor.
Most Issues are about the amount of Internet Speed iChat 5 can see compared to other version which can impact on how much data you can send or receive.
In some cases this change can be impacted by Threshold controlled features in your modem or router (Turn Off SPI or DoS items).

  • Video chat works on AIM but not iChat

I'm trying to do a video chat with my dad who is running AIM 5.9. I can not create a video chat with him using iChat regardless of who initiates the chat. However, I can video chat with him when I fire up AIM 5.9 on my PC.
I think things are set up correctly on my side. I had been unable to video chat with rjinwipc, but got that working after updating the firmware on my DI-624 router.
Does the fact that AIM works but iChat does not say anything about where to concentrate for troubleshooting?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Umm,
    I see a potential problem.
The D-Link DI 624 does not like doing UPnP for iChat
See note 2 here (This may have been corrected with later firmware that shwn in the table of devices).
This is of Course to get these listed device to Work Out of the box rather than set up as many people have to do.
Moving back to the problem We have a device that does not like UPnP and another computer to connect.
If Port Forwading is being used then one computer is out of the loop anyway.
Potential solution is to Port Trigger. Which PortForward.com shows as possible.
I would not use this method described on this page though. as it descibes a PC app to help with a Mac application.
Set the iChat ports like this.
Trigger port 5190 (Start and End) TCP protocol (Type) to open Port 5190 Public tpye Both
Trigger port 5678 (Start and end) Tpye UDP opens ports 5678,5060,16384-16403 (please not the lack of spaces)
The Bonjour ports need to be triggered as single ports like 5190 but the public type for 5297 and 5353 can stay at UDP and the 5298 can be set to Both.
The Jabber ports of 5220, 5222 and 5223 can also be set as single triggers.
The AIM application will then be able to use the Port 5190 trigger.
It will also need ports 1024-5000 to be triggered with port 1024 as the trigger (On TCP)

  • Multiple Video Chat works between three but not between two of the three

I'm connecting three Macbooks using iChat AV. If I initiate the session the other two accept and we have a three way video chat. Either of the other two can initiate a video chat with me. Problem:
neither of them can initiate a video chat with the other. All three Macbooks seem to have the same preferences etc.
    Solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
How are the ports opened in the Connection device (modems and routers) at each end ?
Sometimes two modems don't like the way the other does NAT

  • 23" works on One but not the Other

I have a Powerbook G4 1.25 GHz running 10.3.9 connected to a similar vintage 23" clear plastic case display with a DVI to ADC adapter connection and it works great.
My husband recently bought a used Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz running 10.4.8. We thought sure that when I was out of town with my computer he could hook up and enjoy the use of my big display, but no luck. It just gives him a blank screen.
Any suggestions as to why that would be? Does his machine require a different adapter? Is it possible his port is just not functioning?
    Thanks!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   23 inch display

I couldn't remember what the Display Preferences had said when we tried this last spring and again in the summer, so tonight we connected it again, and wouldn't you know - it worked just fine. We didn't do anything different, so I have no clue as to why it worked this time but not before. He's thinking about getting his own big display, but didn't want to waste his money if he couldn't get it to work, so now I guess we're shopping for another 23" display - probably a used one. Thanks!

  • IChat4 each client can video chat with test accounts but not each other

I have two machines with iChat4. Each machine can video chat with the apple test accounts but the dreaded error 8 when trying to chat with each other.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Ok,
In the Netopia turn the Firewall to Off as the settings LOw and above have some of the features I was talking about (DOS and SPI protection and Ping Blocking.)
For the TZ-180 I can only find info on the TZ -170
This site tells you how to do Port Forwarding.
The main point off linking you to it is it also tells you the default Access Info.
It is likely to be the same for this device your Buddy has.
I would not do the Port Forwarding straight away.
I would check the menu items to see if it has UPnP and that it is Enabled rather than Port Forwarding.
I would also check for the features or the wording of any firewall before resorting to setting the Port Forwarding.
I notice that the TZ-1 70 pics that site has also shows that that particular device has a VoIP setting.
IF the 180 has this we will need to know what it says and what the wording is and if the service is used.

  • Script works on one site, not the other... why?

Could someone tell me why this prototype-based lightbox seems
    to work on one
site but not on the other?
I literally took the exact same .js & css files, copied
    them over from one
site to the other, but it's only partially working on the new
    site.
    http://www.vilverset.com/sample.html
And the original fully-functional one :
    http://www.roxanacampagiorni.com/
Been troubleshooting this one for days, and I'm stumped.
    Script wants
nothing to do with lightboxing HTML files on the new site.
    Only straight
    JPGs.

That's what I told a helper friend of mine, but he told me
    the POST is done
by the server, not the JS files. That's why, according to
    him, he couldn't
tell me what code to change in the .js files.
But here they are, if you would be so kind as to tell me WHAT
    to replace
with WHAT so the call is made properly. :-)
    http://www.vilverset.com/scripts/control.modal.2.2.3.js
    http://www.vilverset.com/scripts/effects.js
    http://www.vilverset.com/scripts/prototype.js
Those are the 3 files needed for the script.
Should I be banging on Dreamhost's door to fix something, or
    not? Because
the exact same 3 files will render an HTML page just fine
    over on
    roxanacampagiorni.com.
Which is the guilty party? The script, or the server config?

  • IPod Works on One Computer; Not on Other...??

iPod worked on both computers. Then something changed. Both run XP Pro; both have 7.1 iTunes. On computer that it does not work on, it does not show up in Device Manager either - no conflict shown, just no recognition that it exists...iTunes iPod diagnostics found it but shows its connection status as being failed. Other USB devices work fine and it used to work fine from the same port. No idea where to go from here...??? Already went through the uninstall/reinstall of iTunes; restoring iPod; etc. No icon down in system tray either that normally shows up telling me a USB device is connected - click to disconnect...

hmmmmm. it might be worth checking on a Windows drive letter confusion on the PC that you're having the grief with. for troubleshooting information, see:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Personal Web Sharing Works on One Mac, Not on Other

I can't get Personal Web Sharing to work with my MacBook Pro. It does work with my iMac. Yes, I can turn it on just fine on the MacBook, by means of System Preferences->Sharing, but I can't successfully use the Personal Web http:// link I see there as a URL in my iMac's browser. When I try, it tells me it can't connect to the host, i.e., the MacBook. When I do the same in reverse, from my MacBook browser with my iMac as target (though the local IP address and the short-user-name are of course different), the connection works fine.
I don't think I'm using an incorrect local IP address to try to get to my MacBook. I've checked that. And I do have an index.html file in the appropriate Sites folder on each machine.
I'm using Mac OS Leopard 10.5.8 on both machines.
The problem also shows up on Safari on my iPhone. It can access Personal Web Sharing on the iMac but it can't on the MacBook.
I wonder if it's a Bonjour problem? I don't exactly know if Bonjour is running on the MacBook, or how to tell if it is, or how to activate it if it isn't running.
Or, if it's not Bonjour, what could it be?

    Doug,
'sudo apachectl start' asked for my password and seemed to have no complaints after getting it. But it didn't tell me anything, and it didn't make a difference.
After checking out some FAQs at
    http://httpd.apache.org/
I tried 'apachectl -k start' and got:
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
    Unable to open logs
It made no difference whether Personal Web Sharing was on or off in System Preferences when I did that.
I do know that the Apache log file is apparently not there where apachectl expects it. I don't understand the other stuff it said, but it looks like maybe it was trying to use an IP address of 0.0.0.0 instead of 10.0.1.16.
10.0.1.16 is the local IP address of my MacBook.
I tried 'apachectl configtest' and got 'Syntax OK'.
    I tried moving index.html to /Library/WebServer/Documents -- no help.
I tried creating a new configuration file in the way you said to try -- no help.
No matter what I try, I get:
    Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 10.0.1.16.
I'm beginning to wonder if the Apache environment might not need to be reinstalled. But I'm not sure how. I'm running Leopard 10.5.8, but the original install disk I have is 10.5.1. Software Update moved me up from that to 10.5.8 over time. Your further thoughts and advice will be greatly appreciated ...

  • 2 Lenovo ideatab A2107A, front facing camera works on one but not the other

i just purchased two of the same lenovo ideatab A2107A from best buy and i noticed that when trying to take a picture on one i was able to zoom in and change to the front facing camera.  The other i can get into the camera, but i cannot zoom in nor can i switch to front facing camera (the icon is not even there).  the other camera works well, zoom, video and all, the other i cannot zoom and i cannot switch, any thoughts besides factory resetting?

    hi catfish197621,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    You can try to:
    1. Download the latest updates Over The Air (OTA) to get the latest patches and bug fixes on the OS (go to settings > about tablet > check for system update).
    2. Download a camera app utility like Camera Zoom FX to see if you can zoom in and out and switch to the front facing camera.
    Hope this helps.

  • Outgoing server works for one user not for other

    Hi,
I just made a second user in Leopard. When logged in as the original user, the outgoing mail server works fine in Mail. When logged in as the new user, the outgoing mail server shows as 'offline' in Mail. In both cases the outgoing server is the same one.
As the new user i can only receive mail and not send any. I am pretty sure the account settings on both mail accounts r identical(Authentication, SSL etc.) (except for user specific identification of course)
Any advice/idea on what is wrong and what i can do to make the outgoing server work for both users?
    Thx,
    Brick

Yes I am certain the authentication is correct. When trying to send a message out Mail gives a message saying my "SMTP server does not support authentication".
When i open Mail preferences. The outgoing server is indicated as Offline.

  • Capturing webcam works on one computer, not the other.

Step 1 - I did all the JMF stuff and got the JMStudio working on my laptop that has a built in webcam.
Step 2 - I went into the JMF Registry, pulled out the video capture device (vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0) and edited it into the SwingCapture application posted below and got the custom application working flawless.
Step 3 - Everything worked perfect so I loaded all the JMF/Eclipse stuff onto my uncle's laptop and plugged in his Panasonic PV-GS120 handheld video camera that also has webcam drivers.
Step 4 - Got the JMStudio working perfect with this webcam device and all is well.
Step 5 - Copied over my modified application (SwingCapture) and pulled the appropriate capture device (vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):1) from JMF Registry and edited it into the right spot in the application.
Step 6 - Tried to run the application and got the following error:

You probably have manually installed JMF on the other system, and you have not placed JMF native system libraries in OS Path.
On Windows place the dll libraries found in JMFHOME\lib\*.dll in Windows System32 dir

  • Xslt mystery.  Works in one environment, not the other

Has anyone come across the following?
First, clarification: The environments, though physically different are essentially the same. same os, libs, version of java, application server, etc. The difference is the one in which it works is at my workstation, and where it doesn't is our lab. All the simple explanations have been investigated (no view private files being picked up vs version controlled, library versions, etc).
I don't believe I even need to explain the functionality. Basically:
    <xsl:template match="/name1/name2">
works (ie matches the node) at my desk while it doesn't in the lab.
Everything else is the same. The xslt executes in the lab. There are no exceptions. Debug statements verify the xml being parsed is the one being processed. But this template is never invoked, so it falls back to the
    <xsl:template match ="@*|node()">
    template.
I checked the System.property javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory to see if maybe they had a different implementation than at my workstation, but the value was the same; no value, which means we are both running the default transformer. We are also running the same java (1.5.0_06_b05).
Any ideas of what/where to look? I realize that I haven't given alot of info, but that's because EVERYTHING is the same.

Ok, I found the difference that is causing the xslt not to work. But this just makes it more confusing. The scenario where it DOESN'T work seems as if it should, and the scenario in which id DOES work seems as if it shouldn't!! Is there anyone who might be able to explain the behavior.
First, the xslt's. In both environments they are exactly the same. Both have a default namespace defined: ie xmlns="some uri A"
    In Environment 1
There is no default namespace defined in the xml; that is there is no xmlns="any uri". However, there is a prefix defined
    xmlns:xis="some uri A"
(note, "some uri A" points to one of our own defined schemas and is the same in both the xslt and xml)
    In Environment 2
There is a default namespace defined in the xml exactly as is defined in the xslt.
So, when an xml document comes in that has
    <abc>
    <def/>
    </abc>
    And the template is
    <xsl:template match="/abc/def">
I would think that environment 1 wouldn't match, because there is no default namespace defined, but the template does define a default namespace, "some uri A" which I think is applied to the /abc/def. But this is the case that works. I'd expect to have to use <xsl:template match="xis:/abc/def">
I'd also think that environment 2 would match, because the xml and xslt both define the same default namespace, so /abc/def means /abc/def, but this is the case where it doesn't work.
Can anyone set me straight on what is going on here? Sorry I don't cut and paste the source, but I can't. It's really this simple. In environment 1, if I remove the xis from the namespace definition in the xml, it "breaks" and works the same as in environment 2.
