    Hi,
    Do you mean Window Live Messenger or it's Mac equivalent MSN for Mac ?
    Actually the app comes with Office
    In the Microsoft Office X (2001 version) it was still called MSN  Messenger
    In Office 2008 it was called Microsoft Messenger.
    The current one that can also be  downloaded as a standalone app  also comes with Office 2011 is also called Microsoft Messenger.
    This is version 8 and this version is the only one that can Video Chat as a standalone app.
    Version 7 required you  were in a mixed environment (with PCs) connected to the correct sort of Windows Server.
    This page may help you further.

  • Does iChat in Lion have video calls with Yahoo messenger??

    Does iChat in Lion have video calls with Yahoo messenger?
    so far is supports only AIM and Apple ID for video chat but in Lion iChat supports Yahoo messenger, do they have video calling also or only text chat is offered in this version?

    Hi all,
    iChat will Video to other iChat users for Jabber (Google, Facebook and others)  and Yahoo Names.
    In neither case will it Video to any Web browser access to the service the buddy may be on such as the Google Mail web mail or iGoogle pages access to the chat option.
    Nor will it video to any Standalone app (There is one for PC for GoogleTalk) and obviously the Yahoo app on both PCs and Macs.
    iChat has not done this since Jabber was added at iChat 3  (OS 10.4/Tiger) some while ago.
    The AIM for Mac app has never been able to do Video.
    Video chatting to the AIM app for PCs can be fraught but is supposed to work.
    It also tends to work to the  Trillian App with the Pro Add-on (which Costs)
    The Yahoo for Mac 3 Beta has been in beta for years.  It could be argued that it has never been "Supported"
    iChat 6 's behaviour may not be what you want but it is entirely consistent with iChat 3 through 5 with the Jabber options.

  • Can iChat have video chat with Windows Messenger?

    Is there any way to use Jabber or other means to establish a video chat with an MSN Messenger user?
    Alternatively, does anyone know if Virtual PC for Mac supports video chat with windows computers?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello Peter,
    Is there any way to ... establish a video chat with an MSN Messenger user?
    The best way is still with a Windows XP PC and MSN Messenger.
    For use with your Mac, see the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ. Jabber is text only.
    There is a beta application called Mercury Messenger on Mac OS X that is an MSN Server client.
    However, please note that the Mercury Messenger Webcam / Video Conference Support section, which I quote, in part, includes the following:
    Video-conferencing is supported on Mac OS X, however it is receive-only, due to an incomplete JMF library for Mac OS X. The feature is still relatively new, and so some issues may occur in use.
    Although Mercury Messenger (beta) will connect to the MSN Server, those comparing it with iChat AV's capability should certainly study the sections about the limitations and known issues.
    If you get Mercury Messenger on Mac OS X working, please post back and let us know what you think of it.
    ... does anyone know if Virtual PC for Mac supports video chat with windows computers?
    VPC for Mac does not support Firewire video, so it cannot use an iSight for video. Sorry, but I have not seen anyone post a method of using VPC that rivals the performance of using the same application on a Windows PC.
    Also, VPC with the current version of Windows is so expensive that, at least where I live, it is often cheaper to buy a used, and sometimes a new, PC to run your PC software.
    If you really MUST use PC software, I suggest running it on a PC.

  • Video capture with Yahoo Messenger?

    using Yahoo Messenger version 3 beta, is there a way to capture video from the other party?
    thanks!

    There is no application designed that I'm aware of that will allow you to record video from Yahoo. (Like Conference recorder for iChat)
    However, you could use a screen recording application that should accomplish what you are looking for.

  • How can I do video chat with my PC friends on MSN messenger?

    Well I posted this in the iChat area, but theres almost no traffic there, hoping for a better response here
    I just got my iMac today and was hoping to do some video chats with family members. I can't figure out how to video chat with them since MSN messenger is not Mac compatable. Does anyone know of a program I can use on my Mac to video chat with MSN messenger users?
    *I was able to use aMSN for video, but there was NO sound so that basically defeated the purpose...

    Hi
    Have just replied to your iChat post:

  • Using the built in Isight camera with MSn Messenger

    I am trying to use the built in webcam on my MacBook Pro with MSN Messenger. I cannot locate the option to activate the camera. Any help is appreciated.

    I have a new Macbook and want to video chat with MSN Messenger users.
    Can I do that via aMSN?
    I've also got XP running on my Macbook and have installed MSN Messenger running but I cant seem to get XP to recognize the built in camera. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks in advance

  • Using iSight with MSN Messenger

    I have MSN messenger 5.0 for a Mac - I cannot seem to figure out how to use the iSight with it . Has any1 been able to do this or are the 2 not compatible?
    Thanks

    Hello Alefiyah,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Grant it right. No video in MSN for Mac.
    If you are interested, see the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ for info on how to use iChat AV with MSN Messenger for text chat.
    Has any1 been able to do this or are the 2 not compatible?
    Not currently. See Peter Tulipan1's recent Can iChat have video chat with Windows Messenger? thread for info about the development of video via the MSNM Server by using an application called Mercury Messenger on the Mac. Note that their Support Info says two-way video does not work at this time, though.

    (P.S. You really
    b should
    update to 10.4.2. It correct several issues with the previous Tiger versions. I suggest the 58 MB Mac OS X Update 10.4.2 Combo. I also suggest that you repair permissions
    b before AND after
    the update. See Gulliver's Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance FAQ for why.)

  • Unable to get Live Cam Video IM pro to work with MS Messenger

    I have installed Live Cam IM Pro and all software from CD, plus updates. It works if I try Cam Manager ... I see myself in preview window.Looking in Start - settings - control panel - scanners & camera there is only one entry, the Live Cam pro. I cannot get it to work with Windows Live Messenger .... if I initiate a video call, it rings but when far end answers ... I get video window with ... video loading message, but it fails and I just get a standard XP icon. If I go to Messenger .. tools ..audio & video the camera sparks into life and again I see myself in preview.But when I go to tools .. webcam settings I see the error message :Cannot change camera settings because your camera is not plugged in or you are using it in a video conversation or with another programIt is obviously plugged in, and there are no other programmes running. I have tried deinstall & reinstall ... no difference. I have removed CD extras .. so now just have Cam Manager & Video driver ... but still no joy.Anybody know how to fix this ?

    Welcome to Discussions, DillonR333
    (1) I am not certain exactly what you are trying to do because hotmail is email. If you merely want to attach a video clip to an email, your iSight can do that without mercury.
    (2) If you are looking for a video chat app that is compatible with the Windows Live chat server, consider the following:
     • http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/messenger-8/default.mspx
    Because Microsoft has apparently changed its protocols, the old Mac alternatives
    (Microsoft Messenger for Mac, Mercury, and aMSN) will no longer connect for video.
    For more info, see: http://tinyurl.com/ycxnbpr
    (3) Any video chat apps, including the above, can work with your built-in iSight. If you think you iSight may be faulty, troubleshoot as recommended here:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    (4) If you have problems video chatting even though your iSight works with Apple apps like QuickTimeX and iMovie, your problem is likely software. You will need to determine whether you are using the correct client app for the chat servers that your contacts use. Ask your contacts to tell you what computer, OS, and application they are using for video chat. From that info, we can determine which software you need to run to connect to the same chat server they are using.
    (5) If your problem remains although you have compatible client software and your iSight works with Apple apps, you may have a bad download or install of the software. You can try downloading and reinstalling again.
    (6) We will watch for your status update. If you need more suggestions, give as much info as you can about what you are trying to do and what you have tried that does not work. We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

  • Can i video chat with someone on a windows pc using yahoo messenger?

    hi, i am considering buying a macbook laptop and would like to know before i purchase, can i video chat with someone using a windows pc with vista os on it if we are both using yahoo messenger? if so please tell me how to set that up correctly b/c the tech support site hasnt been helpful. Also, can i plug my Logitech QuickIM or ExpressIM webcam into the usb port and the macbook pick it up and allow me to use it with yahoo messenger to video chat with? can i still use the headphone earbud that came with the webcamera also if i plug it into the headphone jack on the macbook? if so how do you do that? i know that macbook has a built in webcamera, but i like to turn the camera instead of having to turn the computer all the time to show different parts of areas, etc. in my house, etc. please help me so i will know whether or not to purchase it or not. and also, can i use microsoft outlook to check my email with on a macbook, or what email program would i need to use?
    email me at [email protected] with answers please.

    regarding video, yes you can do a video chat with another pc user. the pc side has to right click your name and find the "view video" (using yahoo mesenger and built in cam)
    have not use audio though so i can not assure you that it would work. (but most probably it would)
    as to using external cam and mic, you can try to borrow someone else cam or go to a mac store and ask for a demo
    as to microsoft outlook... there is no mac version of microsoft outlook as far as i know. (correct me if im wrong) how ever you can use bootcamp and have windows installed and use your mac as if your using windows

  • How to play live Video Stream with Flex?

    I'm trying to get Flex Builder 3 to play a live video stream with Flash Media
    Server and Flash Live Media Encoder.
    I'm able to stream pre-recrorded (vod) flvs in flex from flash media server.
    I'm able to stream live video using Flash/FMS/Flas Live Media Encoder, but not
    with Flex.
    This code streams pre-recorded Video on Demand flvs, but not live streams:
    If I change source to "rtmp://localhost/live/livesream.flv, I get nothing.
    What am I doing wrong?
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!-- controls\videodisplay\VideoDisplayFMS.mxml -->
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
        <mx:HBox>
            <mx:Label text="RTMP FMS 2.0"/>
            <mx:VideoDisplay
                autoBandWidthDetection="false"
                source="rtmp://localhost/vod/Legend.flv"/>
        </mx:HBox>
    </mx:Application>
    Oh and sorry for the double post. I didn't know there was a seperate FMS forum.

    That worked! Thanks  *very* much. Stupid of me to forget to set the live attribute to true. Also removed the .flv. BTW: what video component do you prefer?
    Here's the working code:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!-- controls\videodisplay\VideoDisplayFMS.mxml -->
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
        <mx:HBox>
            <mx:VideoDisplay
                live="true"
                autoBandWidthDetection="false"
                source="rtmp://localhost/live/livestream"/>
        </mx:HBox>
    </mx:Application>

  • Like to set up video chat with Edinburgh Scotland

    I would like to set up a video chat with my 87 year old uncle near Edinburgh Scotland and my 88 year old Mother in the US.
    I plan to have her over for the chat as a surprise.
    My Uncle has a PC - (connect speed unknown.) He is partially capable of setting up his end, but may not know enough to get started.
    He sent me a site to download MicroSoft messenger 6.02 for Mac which I did just to have but prefer the iChat route.
    I have a new MBPro 2.4ghz with an iChat name ready to go, I believe.
    I have a Granddaughter in Kansas with a new MacBook that I would like to set up with as well. I can think of so many possibilities with this new tool.
    Back to the the Uncle. He sent me an email address to connect with him, ... which I questioned.
    This is his latest message to me after I quizzed him about his current computer.

    We use a PC and our video connection is on Windows Live Messenger which uses e-mail address style contact details as listed below. Below is an internet link which has a download for Microsoft Live Messenger to run on Apple Mac. If you download and enter the address below as a contact we should be able to hook up?

    It would mean a great deal for the two seniors if we could make a live visit possible as neither are able to travel to different countries.
    I know our main guys for chatting are in the UK and one is listed in Scotland so maybe if you guys are available .....
    Harold

    Hi Harold,
    Welcome Back.
    I would tend to agree with Defcom on this.
    Trying to sort out any contact with iChat to MSN/Live Messenger and explaining all the limitations would detract from the people involved enjoyment.
    Also the other options of a Mac based and Video capable application would also take some explaining and have limits (no Audio)
    In this case Skype can be downloaded for PC and for Mac from the Links Defcom gave and requires little in the way of setting up.
    For purists reading this.
    1) iChat can talk to PCs if the PC is also using a AIM (AOL Instant Message Client) such AIM for PC or Trillian.
    2) There are Applications (effectively still in beta) that can at least Video (moving pics only) to MSN on a PC that can be downloaded for the Mac.

  • How can I video chat with someone who uses web based yahoo?

    Not long ago I purchased my first Mac (New MacBook Pro 2.53GHZ); last Summer I also purchased a MacBook Pro for my daughter. Everything works great (like driving a formula one Porsche after grappling with a battered pick-up truck (meaning Windows) for many decades; cannot imagine ever going back. But, there is one issue that I have not been able to solve and for which I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or advice. I am familiar with ichat and with AIM (my daughter uses it all the time). However, the vast majority of people with whom I communicate via IM live in parts of the world where very few people have even a computer at home much less residential internet access. As a result, near all of the folks I would be chatting with have to use public computers (internet cafes, libraries, etc) and obviously they cannot install AIM or anything else on those public computers. About 90% of them use the web based yahoo messenger which can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection (most of the rest use MSN). My question is this: I know how to do video chat in ichat but ichat does not support yahoo. How can I do video chat with someone who is using web based yahoo on a public computer that has a USB web cam? I was able to do this on my old PC which had a plug in web cam but do not know how it might work on a Mac. Should I install yahoo messenger on my MacBook Pro and will that work for me?. I know about some other Mac compatible chat clients such as Admiun but as far as I can tell none of them support video chat or in some cases yahoo. Perhaps I am overlooking something. I would be very grateful for any suggestions or advice in this matter. Thanks to anyone who reads this post and has any helpful info.

    Zurich,
    I don't think the web-based Yahoo Messenger supports video, so nothing you can do with that.
    http://messenger.yahoo.com/features/
    I think there are Mac compatible MSN clients that will do video, (i.e. aMSN) Also, Microsoft plans on releasing an updated version of Messenger for Mac soon.
    http://www.officeformac.com/blog/An-Update-on-Messenger-for-Mac
    GoogleTalk does have a browser based video chat, but your friends would need to install a browser plug-in. (which I would assume that can't do either)
    The best option is Skype, but also requires an install on their end (I would think that the internet cafes would/should have this available)
    Good Luck,
