Video chatrooms

Is there a way I can get my built in iSight to work with video chatrooms? It's recognizing that a Camera exists and the mic is working, but I'm not getting a picture.

This is a partial yes.
iChat can Video from a Jabber based Buddy List including a GoogleTalk one to another iChat Buddy who is using a Jabber Screen Name.
It can not Video chat to the GoogleTalk App on a PC as that uses different Video codecs based on the Jingle Protocols the Jabber organisation as a whole have developed.
The Google Web Mail site that also allow Chatting can do Video but this uses Flash to control the camera but iChat cannot Chat to that either as Flash is different from the protocols iChat uses.

Ok, so, I'm stupid... please help

Ok, I'm not that stupid, but I've been out of the industry a few yearsand I'm trying to relearn everything I used to know. For the record as I went to install flashon my new computer, I realized I'm still using version 3. Can you say major upgrade... Anyway, a lot has changed. Everything people are doing with flash today, I wanted to be doing 8 years ago.
Well I can't relearn everything at once. I'm trying to throw together a small web site for my own reeducation. So why not add a video chat room on to catch up on flash... Right? Well this is where I get stupid. Can someone please explain to me in plain english how the simultaneous user thing works. Ihave been out there shopping around for fms hosting and was looking at ready made video chatroom as well. I thought I understood it all untill I was over at userplane reading their information. Ok, I understand, they are out to make money. But, their information is as follows.
I can get a free video chat room that has banner ads. It comes with a 9 simultaneous user licence and 9 gigs of transfer a month. Of course I pay for any bandwidth overage. They claim this is fine for 0-100 visitors a day. Their next step up has no banner ads, 10 simultaneous user licence, 15 gigs of monthly transfer, and it costs $130 a month. They claim this is fine for a site that has 0-5000 visitors a day.

Ok, forget the video chatroom. What if I write a poker game that 5 players can play at once... I think you now see why I feel stupid. Again can someone explain to me in plain english how this works and what I should be looking for in a fms host. Or is it cheeper to buy your own copy of the server in the long run?

Why can't Firefox cannot load certain applications on certain sites like a whole chatroom, video player or the reply box on a forum?

When I was ask to join this site ( the mozilla support site), firefox was unable to display the register or log in page, all i saw was the page getting darker and an unmoving white rectangle.
Also when I got certain site to watch a video like animefreak.com the video player will never appear, I have to use internet explorer to watch it.
There are some sites where the chatroom simply doesn't appear and others where I can't even use the reply box in the forum

Recently both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

Video conferencing chatroom (applet wont receive video stream).

I have created 2 applets, first applet "captures" stream from my webcam to computer when i join to chatroom.
It starts to create small H.264 packed videos, like video1.avi, video2.avi , to an specific folder like (c:\temp).
This only works on my computer due to an signing problem?
Well lets think that my, signing works and lets go forward ->
Now i try to upload these small videos continuously to my tomcat server on internet with jsp page.
Then my second applet starts to play those videos from tomcat server, it clones datasources so i can have 8 little videoapplets at time on room and all those have video playing from different users ofc.
So maintainly i need help for uploading files with jsp and that applet signing so my applets can start writing videos to clients temp folders without problems.
Im also interested for integrating whole JMF to my applets so that users wont have to install jmf if they want use my application.

Can't use voice in Yahoo chatrooms. w/ x-fi n vista rc1 wiht USB mic

I am now using my USB, but still no sound in YM, anyone know why?
I know think this is affected by creative soundcard, but why?

I'm not able to get the microphone input to work on my XFI card as has been reported by other people on this forum. Looks like recording may work only under Vista apps directly from your note but not with any 3d party applications such as Yahoo & Team Speak.
In my case - similar to the fact that 5. works under Vista's built in audio control panel but so far none of the 3d party (games/MP3/video) will stream back audio in anything other than 2..

Open source video chat from linux to iphone?

I would like to find an open source video chat client that I can run on my Arch laptop that will allow me to video chat with friends running iOS. Is there such a thing? Skype is not open source. Googlechat is not open source.

I came across Mumble. I thought at first you can create channels for yourself on public servers but unfortunately not. Most servers won't allow you to create a channel for yourself. So your best bet here is to run your own server (which means additional expenses for me).
Ekiga seems nice but there is no iOS client.
The closest thing so far is Linphone, which has clients for Linux and iOS, but you need a SIP account somewhere.
Any experiences with this?

Embed iChat -- VIDEO

Need to know any ideas to embed iChat Video within web page. Want to have a button press and then launch iChat within a web page (which is below), but need the Video embedded as well. (java is cool if needed)..
In the following link: (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4694750&#4694750) it discusses the URL launch but not the video embed part. Now I have found the URL launch I need to find out how to embed the video - Just the video..
Any ideas??

Ok.
It is possible to do the things in the other thread and display the Online Status.
Separately it is possible to display the Video feed from the camera

RVC is a random video chat (aka. chat roulette) software, includes audio, video and text data streaming over both Cirrus – real time media flow protocol (RTMFP) by ©Adobe Labs – and the open source Red5 media server (RTMP). Most custom made chat roulette websites are powered by or built on RVC 4+ source code.

It one of those "Yes, No, Sort of" answers.
Apple brought out a version of iChat 2.0 for Jaguar as a Free beta download for a few months in may to Oct 2004 which is obviously not available now.
It also only applied if you had done the Updates to get to 102.5 or higher.
That leaves Upgrading to 10.3.x at least for iChat 2.x or using another option.
Skype is probably the widest user base at the moment.
Can be downloaded by Macs or the PC version for PCs to keep in contact with sets of users.
There other options such as YakforFree and iVisit that I have listed here
They tend to be sorted in those that Text Only and those that can Video/Audio chat plus others.
There is also Flash Web page options like http://www.mebeam.com/
Summary.
Yes, 10.2.5 and up can use iChat 2.0 for Jaguar
No, it is no longer available (from the Apple download pages)
Options are listed above with links but processor power may still be an issue
The Flash based web page/Chatroom may be the best starting point

Yesterday for the first time that I can remember that I ran into massive lags on a 720p video I was watching on a website, was my Macbook overheating?

I'd owned my Macbook for about a year and it's a Macbook 2009 mid model 2.13ghz and I ran into a weird bug yesterday. I had Xat chatroom open which is a flash chatroom and Cinemassacre Angry Video Game Nerd video open yesterday and I heard my fan running loud and non-stop. While I was watching the video the video was showing up like still images instead of in motion. Does that mean my Macbook was overheating if it was turning Video Motion into still images? I shut down my Macbook and started it back up. I hope its not linked to my ssd harddrive. Also, this is the first time I think I ran into this bug. When I'm laying in bed I have my Macbook resting on a dresser desk like a flat piece of wood because I think thats better for ventilation than it would be to just laying on my bed. I might have had my Macbook on for 5-7 hours with nosleep(a program to stop the macbook from sleeping) on. Could that have caused some problems?

Always make sure the ventialation slots are never covered otherwise it can overheat.
Using Safari ???
Help for Flash related problems ...
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click: Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Then empty the Safari cache.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select: Show develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop > Empty Caches
Quit and relaunch Safari and try a video.

Inbuilt cam "not found" for use in chatroom

I've just got the new intel based imac 24".
I cannot seem to get it working in a public chatroom which uses adobe flash player.When we get choose cam,we get this list:
IIDC Firewire Video
DV Video
USB Video
We've downloaded most recent imac intel flash player.
Anyone got any ideas?

I'm not trying to be difficult but, I'm a bit confused as to why the video source would make a difference, FW vs USB, or internal vs external? It would seem that the real issue is whether the software can actually access the source.

Iphoto crashing after using mini-dvi to video adapter

Hi, IPhoto on my Macbook is crashing. I can open it, then as soon as I scroll down it locks up and I have to force quit.
This started happening right after I used a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter cable to hook my macbook up to my TV. The adapter/s-video connection worked and I was able to see the video on the tv. But iphoto immediately locked up the computer when I went to slide show and now it locks every time I open it.
Any ideas?

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Wrong 'mini dvi to video' adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33

I recently bought the M9319 mini dvi - video adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33 to find that the mini dvi on the adapter is a different size to the one on the computer and the adapters supplied with the computer.
I've been doing a bit of research into this and it seems a bit of a grey area. Apple have not made it clear in advertising this product that it is only suitable for the newest 12" Powerbooks and even state that it will work with a 1.33 machine in their following article:

Has anyone had a similar experience, or suggest an alternative product that will work? Did Apple make an older version that works with the 1.33?

Just took the adapter to my local Apple store and they identified it as a mini VGA to video adapter - not what it said on the packaging!
I've noticed a few posts with this problem, so just double check before you leave the store that the packaging matches the product.

...the usual 3 av (audio/video) leads...
DVI is video only so you only need one port... if you were hooking up audio and video you'd need three (1 for video - 2 for the left/right audio channels)
