Video choppy after adding audio

This is my fourth year creating a basketball highlight video for the local high school and I have a new problem I haven't been able to solve. I've imported clips from the past 5 games using iMovie HD and everything worked great. I recently added a song for background music (same thing I've done previous years) and now when I play the video it is real choppy. The audio plays fine.
I've seen previous posts regarding this topic suggesting exporting the video with sound track and re-importing. I can't do this because I'll have to go back later to shorten or lengthen clips depending on how the rest of the season goes. I also read you can solve it going back a version in QuickTime, but I can't do that with 10.4. I have playback set to Standard under preferences. I'm using an external firewire drive with 30gb available. iMovie is stored on my internal drive. I've ran all the recommended maintenance on my mac. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Same problem here. Do you have a lot of audio clips? I'm working on a project with around 40 audio clips, and I find that if I delete half of them (no matter which half), the choppy video is gone. Very frustrating, and I hope there's an answer soon which doesn't require buying a new computer.

  • Crashing after adding audio clips

So I have had to rebuild my 50 minute vacation movie 3 times now due to the files become corrupt after adding audio clips.  The audio clips are legit and not just downloaded from a random site.  Happens with different songs not just particular ones.

Here is a good tutorial for how audio works. In your case, you want to drag and drop the music track on top of one of your video clips at the frame where you want the music to begin.

  • Video jerky after adding voice-over

The video imports nicely, but when I do voice-over using a Logitech headphone, the video portion becomes jerky. Something similar was discussed in the forum about a year ago, but it appears that nothing was resolved? Would appreciate help on this. Thanks

always convert and AIFF files to MP3 first..... only have about 20 audio clips, but they're mostly voice over and AIFF files.
No. iMovie converts MP3 format to AIFF anyway. Some have found more stuttering problems with voice-overs.
I'm stuck right now with a half hour video that i managed to finishe editing but can't play or export to tape without terrible stuttering
If you have enough space on your hard drive, you can 'share' your finished movie as QuickTime Full Quality. Import this QT movie into a new iMovie project. It should now play without stuttering, allowing you to export it back to DV tape. If the QT movie plays fine, you can delete the original iMovie.
You can add chapter markers and use this version for iDVD.
I use this method all the time. Sometimes I have had to create QT movie version three times when editing a long or complex iMovie. Even before adding audio, my movies will skip/stutter on playback if I have lots of transitions/effects/total clips. I have learned to edit the movie by cropping the video clips first, adding stills, doing transitions and titles/effects, and adding the audio last. If it starts to skip with the addition of the first audio clip, I delete that clip, share as quicktime, and then work on the quicktime version in a new iMovie and go ahead with adding the audio to that.

  • Video shaking after adding few elements

    Software : Premiere Elements 11
    OS : W7
    Hello,
I'm preparing tutorial for a software. I made a video capture of my software with Jing and I got a .swf (I used Jing to the video capture after testing many solutions because this is the only one without bugs and big advertissments).
So I add my .swf without problem on my timeline, but after adding few elements (voice, pictures, ..) everything begin to shake and to flash. I tried to make it new again, but each time after few elemnts added, averything's shaking.
I used the "rendering" (I'm not sure how to call that in english, in french it is "rendu") but it isn't chaging anything.
If you have any idea,s it is very welcome !

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunatly, I have no choice because there is no other possibilities of extension and I spent already days by tring other softwares.
The point is : it is working well till there is "too much" others elements. For exemple if I just add voice and 1 or 2 gif, it is ok. But if I had more things, it is shaking and flashing ... so I don't think it is from the .swf. Maybe you know a good freeware to record video on an other extension, witout bugs (all I tried are with big adverstissment or with strange bugs like everything pink and deformed ... ?).

  • After adding audio to slide show, can we...

With the help of posts from this forum I got the audio up and running on a couple slide shows. I'd like refine a couple things, so has anybody done any of the following:
    1) Can the pictures in the slide show fade in and fade out for better picture to picture transitions?
    2) Can the play/pause button for the audio be changed? I'd like to add volume and maybe a percent indicator while the audio is loading.
    3) Could the slide show start AFTER the audio is loaded? By the time the audio starts the slide show is usually on the 2nd slide.
    4) Sometimes the audio will not loop. I think this depends on how the slide show window was closed. If the same page is reloaded again, the audio usually doesn't loop. Is there a way to re-initialize the slide show audio to guarantee it will loop each time.
    5) Will the audio work if the end-user doesn't have quicktime on the computer?
I've been using this section of the website for beta testing -

    1) Can the pictures in the slide show fade in and

Yes, but you will have to do extra works with javascript. There is a transition variable in slideshow javascript, but there is no control over the slide duration (it's fixed and there is now way to change it). This can cause some strange effects.
    2) Can the play/pause button for the audio be
changed? I'd like to add volume and maybe a percent

Yes, change one of the arguments in QT_WriteOBJECT:
    QTWriteOBJECT('SF_Soundtrack1.mov', '34', '16', '',
    3) Could the slide show start AFTER the audio is

You can put a delay time to call QT_WriteOBJECT function, once again javascripts.

QT is preloaded in a mac, but not so for pcs; so QT needs to be installed on a pc.

  • Videos choppy after Leopard install

After 10.5.4 install, videos/motion graphics are choppy in QuickTime, VLC, iTunes, Firefox 3, Flash Player, YouTube, Google Earth - you name it, no matter what the player or file type, if it's a moving picture, what should be smooth motion is jumpy. The effect is particularly bad when the desktop is about to change to a new background picture; it staggers bigtime then. Even the cursor stalls and staggers briefly sometimes when moved across the desktop, especially in Photoshop. Audio playback is fine, however. This is my only problem since upgrading to Leopard - everything else works flawlessly. Anyone else notice this?

I don't use Perian, so it can't be that on my machine. Take a look at this - I found it interesting, Evidently Flash Player stutters with any file with H.264 encoding. Like you, they found it to be independent of CPU load.
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-282
This can't be the answer to my problem, however, as the stuttering video takes place in QT, too, and with files that don't employ H.264. Now I'm beginning to suspect my jumpy video might be a virtual memory issue. I have Leopard installed on a 32 GB partition, and with much less free space as a result, maybe this is causing my video playback problems. Hard to properly debug a situation like that, though. Will have to wait until I can afford to install a larger primary drive in my G4, and that could be a while...

  • System lockups/video corruption after adding hard drive

I have a first generation MacPro with an ATI video board. I recently added a 1 TB Western Digital "Black" hard drive, and I used Carbon Copy Cloner to duplicate the first drive onto the Black HD, which is now my new boot drive.
Ever since I did that, my system has become quite unstable and locks up frequently. What typically happens is I'll get a garbled single row of pixels in random places on the screen, and then within a few minutes it will lock up if I try to do anything that is graphics intensive such as using Expose's active screen corders to show my desktop, or opening a folder with dozens of different icons (like the Apps folder). It /seems/ like the problem is compounded when I am using FireFox, but that may simply be because I use it alot.
After the lockup the only way to regain control of the machine is to hold in the power button.
I've even gone as far as removing the original drive thinking that perhaps the system might be confused and is pulling drivers or whatever from the old drive. That didn't help.
Any thoughts as to what is happening here? It's seriously driving me nuts (not to mention wasting a lot of my time constantly having to restart the system).

Did you run Disk Warrior before and after cloning?
    Repaired permissions?
    Re-ran 10.5.7 combo update?
I'd even look in system profile - memory and see if there are errors showing (doesn't show errors from prior system boots though).
Cleaned out the X1900; add copper cooling kit $29, or look into another ATI card.
Before using any new drive, zero it. And if you have Windows and the drive is backed up or before you put files on it --- do a complete and thorough zero and extended test in Windows using WD's own Diagnostic utility - much better, reliable, and does map out bad blocks while Disk Utility and other OS X tools rarely do. But any new drive... I've had 3 out of 6 need such treatment.
As a test, reboot back on your original why not? I'd have done that just to narrow down the possibilities.

  • HTML5 videos freeze after loaded, audio keeps playing

This started happening some months ago in my old laptop and it also occurs now in the new one. A lot of times, when I play an HTML5 video (not just in YouTube, it also happens in Streamcloud for example), after it's fully loaded and I start playing it, it will stop (on YouTube the "loading" animation appears), and the audio will keep playing. The only thing I can do is mute it and reload the page. Whenever it happens, it usually happens again after a while, and it's really frustrating to have to reload a few times after it's loaded to be able to watch a 1 hour video.
My laptop has two video cards, an Intel HD integrated one and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce. It doesn't matter which one I use or if I turn hardware acceleration on or off, the issue persists.
    What can I do?

Check that all of your software is up to date.

  • Captivate 5.5 Software simulation video crashes when adding audio recording

I run Windows 7 and Adobe captivate crashes after trying to start a audio recording in software simulation. My simulation is ready and the moment, I click the "record audio" button, the application freezes and I have to go to end the application via Task Manager.
    Solution approaches:
I have started Captivate as administrator and that didn't help.
I have then tried to look up my preferences but didn't find any files which i could identify as preferences.
I have already tried the solution in the Note below (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/759455)
    Help please.
    Thanks,
    A

I am having similar issues, but with the internal speach generator. I have both simulation and demonstration videos. I was able to enter text and convert to Paul's voice without issue, but the minute I tried to add closed captions Captivate totally locked up. And now when I try to do any sort of audio edit, no matter which method of access to the audio (using Audio - Audio Management or Audio - Speech Management or the Add/Edit Audio buttons in the Properties window or using the Closed Caption button in the Slide Notes tab or double click the audio wave file in the Timeline tab) Captivate totally locks up. I was originally able to create 1 file with closed captions but now it also locks up when I try to edit and no other file will let me add CC or use the Audio edit features.
Captivate 5.5, Windows 7; run captivate as admin or not - no difference. Run captivate on my primary or secondary monitor - no difference; run captivate with or without other applications open - no difference.
When I force close using Task Manager I did get a CpDump file that was created. Not sure what to do with that...I submitted a bug but have heard nothing back.
I did follow the steps in the earlier referenced link about deleting the preferences. I also did not find a specific file/folder labeled preferences but my IT group said it was OK to delete the entire final folder in the referenced chain (Captivate 5). Once I did that, I had access to my Closed Captions again and could edit the audio.

  • HD DRV Keeps Rebooting after adding audio receiver

I have had FIOS tv for almost 2 years now with no issues, I am in Edgewater, MD.  I recently bought a new receiver, Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver.  After hooking everything up through the receiver with HDMI cables, my DVR box keeps rebooting.  It only happens when I run the HDMI to the receiver then to the TV.  If I run the HDMI directly to the tv, like it has been for over a year, I don't have any problems.  I know I could work around this by just running the audio to the receiver, but I wanted to take advantage of the HDMI cable and control all sources through the receiver.  Has anyone else had this kind of issue?

Your problem  comes from the looseness of the HDMI protocol. The protocol allows for to much variance in the implementation and because of that a digital "handshake" issues occur. The more HDMI components you add to the mix the more likely you are to have issues. I get the DUI message at every start up and I have HD DVR straight to the TV, however I don't experiance any other audio or visoe issues. Just the meassage as everything intializes.

  • Why is my video choppy after importing?

    Howdy!
I am on a quest to find a video editing software that actually works with my computer, and it seems like Adobe Premiere elements is in first place so far. Which isn't saying much because I am still having a lot of troubles using this software.
I am recording myself using a webcam & I am using the Windows Media Encoder software to record. From there, I am importing my .wmv file into adobe premiere elements. Whenever I play my imported video in the main window, it lags terribly. The video will play fine for about a second, then it will only show frame by frame clips of the movie with about a second in between each frame. The audio, however, is not lagging at all.
I am confused on why this would be happening. I just recently bought a computer to record and produce music with. I spec'd it so that it could handle recording stuff no problem...however I know the one area I skimped out on was my video card. Here are the specs of my computer:
    >Model: ASUS Desktop PC M11AD Series
    >Processor: Intel Core i7-4770S CPU @ 3.10 GHz
    >RAM: 8.00 GB
    >Operating system: Windows 8.1 64 bit
My processor comes with integrated graphics, so that I is what I am using for my graphics card. It's called Intel HD Graphics 4600. I know that integrated graphics are not ideal to edit movies with, but I thought I could get away with the bare essentials to make simple movies with. However, I am getting very poor performance when I watch my video so I am thinking that my graphics card could be causing the problem.
I have seen suggestions to "Render the Work Area", which I have actually tried. It is not working on my computer. For some reason, it will not render my video! All that happens whenever I press the render button, it just plays the video....
I have also monitored my RAM when playing the video to see if I am running out of RAM...my tests showed that I maxed out around 45% Memory usage when playing the video. Isn't 45% not straining the system too much?
I also was recommended to download the program GPU-Z to monitor some outputs of my video card. There are two different fields, "Memory Usage (Dedicated)" and "Memory Usage (Dynamic)". I monitored both of these while recording and the Dedicated was at 0 MB and the Dynamic didn't go higher than 116 MB. This doesn't seem like it is straining the graphics card...this won't be the problem will it?
Can anyone shed some light onto what is happening with my computer?
Is it a software issue with Adobe premiere elements?
Any help would be much appreciated...I have 2 days left with my Adobe trial. I would really like it if I could get adobe working properly...I can justfiy buying it if I can figure out what is wrong with mine!
    Thanks,

Background Information on Project Settings (Project file aka Project.Prel)
The output from these screen capture programs can be highly problematic for Premiere Elements. Sometimes the capture output format does not import completely as well as has a variety of other workflow issues. But, before blaming the screen capture program, you need to assure that you know the properties of your source media and that you (manually) or the project (automatically) set the project preset to match the properties of the source media. Once that is done you are good to go in the Edit area, deciding between project glitches and video incompatibilities.
With versions 11 and 12, the project took over the role of setting the project preset in the new project dialog. So, typically you do not get to see the new project dialog. The default project preset is NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart. When you import your video and drag it to the Expert workspace Timeline, the project automatically sets the project preset based on the properties of the first video drag to the Timeline. Sometimes it does it correctly; sometimes not. When not, the result is not the closest fit but rather the project default NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080p30 or its PAL counterpart. More details on this are in my blog post on the subject, and writeup includes the how to on how to set the project preset manually.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
You can find out what the project has set automatically from the readings of Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio found Edit Menu/Project Settings/General.
    What Next....
Is the video properties information that you posted above and which I have summarized below those of the video that you are importing into Premiere Elements and having problems with the preview?
    1280 x 720 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second
Video Compression = Windows Media Video 9
Audio Compression = Windows Media Audio 9.2
    File Extension = .wmv
If so, please start a new project and set the project preset manually to
    NTSC
    FLIP
Flip Mino HD and Ultra HD 29_97p
For details for manual project preset setting see that information in the lower section of
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
Then back in the Expert workspace of 12, import your 1280 x 720p30 using Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the file to the Timeline Video Track 1/Audio Track 1. When the file arrives in the Timeline, is there an orange line over its content or no colored line?
If you do see that orange render indicator line, then please press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to Timeline render the file. Is there any difference in the playback of the unrendered vs the rendered here? I am hoping that you do not see any colored line there and that the video plays back OK since no Timeline rendering needed nor possible. But, let us see.
The part of this is for you to let us know where that other .wmv came from, the one that you say had no problems at playback in Premiere Elements Edit area.
By the way, is your web cam recognized by Premiere Elements12 and its Add Media/Web cam or WDM?
    More later.
Thanks for your follow up. I think that you have made so significant gains.

  • Pressing the motion button after adding audio to a menu=spinning beach ball

just doing a simple iDVD project with some holiday pics, every other menu in the project works fine but when I drag an audio file from iTunes (or select it from the iTunes library in the "media" button) to replace the stock menu audio then press the motion button the spinning beach ball pops up and nothing else happens. If I try to burn the project the process hangs at encoding the audio for this part of the project too.
With the stock theme audio left in place everything is fine, could it be an issue with the format of the song file from iTunes? I have songs on other menus, might be worth noting that these work fine and were purchased from the iTunes store so maybe it is an encoding issue?
My hd space is getting down to 20gb as well if this might be an issue, have tried deleting the plist preference file to to no avila too - any help or suggestions would be gratefully received!

In theory no, as iMovie and iDVD are supposed to be equally happy with AAC and MP3 files. I just find that AIFF works smoothly and does not delay audio encoding in iDVD. I have yet to experience any of the amazing delays in audio encoding, apparently lasting days, that others have reported here.
In iDVD, the 'audio well' look like small speaker icon. When it's occupied the icon identifies the kind of file you have installed.
In Itunes you can identify what format each song is in by clicking on it once and going to Get Info in the File menu. The import setting in Preferences determine what format you are importing in, be it from the Store or your own CDs.

  • How can i add a transition to video when using pinned audio without loosing sync

Everytime i try to add a transition to my video after adding audio from an external source the audio becomes unsync,( it doesn't matter if i pinn the audio or not) any solutions or worked around?
    I'm using Imovie 11.

    Try this...
Click EDIT/TRANSITION OVERLAP/HALF. This will maintain project duration.
Normal transitions take half the frames they need from each adjacent clip.
If you choose HALF, it will take the frames needed for the transitions from the unused portion of your event clips. For this to work correctly, you will need to have unused frames available in each clip. If your project clip uses the frames all the way to the beginning or end of the event clip, there would be no frames to borrow. You also need to make sure that there is no embarassing footage in the unused frames that will be now used in the transitions.  If you carefully edited out Aunt Judy picking her nose, these frames of Aunt Judy may show up in the transition, if they are adjacent to a project clip with a transition.
There are good diagrams explaining this in iMovie/Help.

  • Audio goes out-of-sync after adding photos to video

iMovie HD 5.0.2 here. I have one main 10-minute video clip and am trying to splice the video to include a few photos, which maintaining that video's audio track throughout.
After importing the video, I extracted the audio. But when I dropped in a photo, any video AFTER that photo is now out-of-sync with the audio track. (I'm not really fiddling with the visual timeline; I just split the video clip at playhead, insert photo, and any video after the photo winds up out of sync.)
Is this a problem with the dated software? Is there a workaround? If I should upgrade, what should I upgrade to? I really love the simple video and audio timeline of iMovie HD; it's perfect for my needs and I don't want to lose it...

    OK
I'm a soft head. Now I understands what You want to do.
OK there is a smart way to exchange video for a photo but keeping the audio. BUT
I use a much more raw way of doing this.
I import my photo. Set a duration for it eg. 4 sec => 00:00:04:00 exactly
then I select the video clip
Extract sound - so that I don't affect this when doing the brain surgery
Cut in the video part away exactly 00:00:04:00
Select the photo clip - drop this before the un-needed video clip
Select the un-needed video clip and delete this.
Now I've replaced a pice of the video with a photo but the sound flows as it
    was un-tuched.
I always work this way - think it has to do with super-8 film editings during
    the stone-ages.
There is a function in iMovie that does this - replace action but I've never used it.

  • Laggy video after adding title...

So, I completed a mini wedding movie with sound effects and titles. However, when playing back the movie, the video footage with titles become very laggy. It seems like it's a bit choppy... Video footage with only added audio/sound effects seem to run smooth... Why is this? and is there a fix for this?

Just for an update, I just went ahead and exported the movie anyways... Guess what? It runs very smooth on QT and iTunes. I even burned a DVD and played on a regular DVD player, and it is also very smooth. So, I guess just because you have a laggy video in the iMovie preview, doesn't necessarily mean that it'll be like that after exporting... I am very happy!
