Video Clip Length incorrect

I'm trying to figure this out, I've imported my video clip but for some reason, the video clip is 30 minutes long, but on the timeline the video is only 10 or so seconds long.  Basically, 10 seconds are making up a 30 minute video.  I've never seen this before, any ideas?

I have had similar results, when using converted DV-AVI Type II files for my normally bullet-proof converter. Similar files from the same group and same CODEC, will Import fine into PrPro. Occasionally, I'll get a "rogue" file, where PrPro sees the Duration as totally wrong, though not with as much truncation, as you observe. I my situation, I have found that simply Importing these truncated files into PrElements and then doing an Export to the same exact format/CODEC, DV-AVI Type II, always fixes the problem. Why 1:100 files exhibits this problem is unknown to me. Why Importing into PE and then Exporting to the same exact spces. fixes it, is also unknown. G-Spot gives the same exact info on each the "before" and the "after," but PrPro sees the Duration incorrectly.
I'm with Jeff in how you should handle this - Conversion. Actually, I'd go back a step and use another ripper, and one that allows for DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit Audio, but that is just me. This could well save you some quality and another step. There are other DVD rippers, that are also freeware.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Audio and video clip lengths differ in encore timeline

    Hi
I have been working to build a BD-R H.263 ac3 disk.  I used AME from within Premiere Pro to export the M4V and (at the same time) AC3, using the present defualt parameters-no tweaking of any setting.  The clips appear to play great on encore's monitor--everything in sync. And on the burned BD-R
However, I am getting the black screen between clips in the timeline when played in the standalone BD player, or (when I had one clip to a timeline) in a playlist.  a previous poster made note of different length audio and video clips.  I zoomed on the timeline and lo and behold--the  the audio and video clips are different lengths.
This is with the timeline fully expand--each division is a frame. Note that break between the two audio clips is offset from the break between the two video clips by two frames.  This offset is after several clips.  I could find no information on what the one frame crosshatching at the end of the leading clips means.  Can anyone explain this cross hatching?  What do I do about it?  the image below is after the first clip in the timeline:
In this image, the offset is less than a full frame??????
I tried using the trim tools to bring these together-but, the trim tool only lets it jump a full frame and then only to a GOP boundary, which doesn't help because the boundaries are obviously different fro the video and audio track.
I want to emphasize that these assets were created from the Premiere CS4 timeline (which had no offset between audio and video) using the default H.263 and AC3 presets in AME and the same presets selected in Encore.
The offsets do not appear to cause the actual audio and video to go out of sync when I play the burned disk. But, I get the 1-2 second wait between menus and chapters, or with items in a playlist.
The audio offset suggests that the player may not know what to do when faced with a chapter point that is different on the audio and video tracks, although, I will note that encore snapped to the joints in the video track not the audio track.
You can see from this listing that several of the clips audio and video lengths that differ by one frame.  By the end of the timeline, the cummulative offset is 3 seconds (48 minute timeline)
Can anyone shed any light on this?  Thanks

I don't think that I had the same problem that you do, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents just in case it might help. Encore would not build the output; it said something like the inpoint and the length did not match the endpoint. Actually, I think this happened in several different situations. In one case I simply adjusted the audio and video tracks to match endpoints. In the other case I went back to Premier and found that in some cases where I had added transitions it had shifted the endpoints of the audio and video tracks so they did not match. I removed the transitions. It didn't matter that much to me since I'm doing this for personal use. Is it possible those crosshatched lines you're seeing are transitions?
I am using CS 3 and editing HD. I have had many problems with encore. I read in the form someplace that it had a hard time handling H.264 so I changed to MPEG-2 and that fixed one problem. In another case it couldn't find some files and I found some advice not to use HD or wide menus, so I switched to standard 4:3 menus and it worked.

  • MMS video clip length?

When I'm sending an MMS including a video clip only max 10 seconds is avalible at the reciever... When I look at my sent MMS the clip is much longer (and reduced in size and quality). Other phones can send and recieve up to 20-25 seconds clips....
Is this an iPhone or carrier problem? I'm from Sweden and use Telia as carrier.
Is there some way to be able to send a bit longer MMS clips? Any tips or ideas?

Ok, no one has an answer...
I guess it's because US carriers does not have support for MMS yet...
I called Telia and asked them why my MMS video clips is so short... The total max MMS size is 300kbit. Even thow the quality and size is reduced before the clip is sent, I guess 10 seconds will fill it to max...
    1. Is there any whay of checking the size of a sent MMS in the phone?
    2. Is there any why of setting the size and quality of a MMS video clip (to make it a bit smaller)?
    Any ideas?

  • Video clip length playing shorter on my mac

    Hi all,
Fairly new to mac, so apologies if this is fairly basic.
I have some video files stored on an external hard drive. If I open a file using my PC the video file plays the full length of the clip, yet if I open the file using my mac it opens no problem, yet only plays part of the clip. Can anyone explain why this might be happening ??
    Many thanks in advance

Timecode "breaks" in your AVI files.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to "repair" them.

  • I DRAG AND DROP A VIDEO CLIP FROM THE EVENT BROWSER THAT IS 7.9 SECONDS INTO MY IMOVIE I'VE STARTED AND IT CHANGES IN THE PROJECT TO 4.9 SECONDS - HOW CAN I KEEP THE LENGTH THE SAME

I drag a video clip from Event to Project into my imovie I've started.  The video clip length changes from 7.9 seconds to 4.9 seconds. How can I stop that length from being changed?

If you are using transitions either side of the clip they will use some of the clip to generate the effect, there isn't anything you can do unless you remove or shorten the transition.
If you aren't using transitions it may be that you are only selecting part of the clip in the event window, try dragging out the yellow frame to include all the video you want in the project.

  • File Properties Length does not match rendered video clip

I have Premiere Elements 8. I decided I did not want to use audio in some of my video files, so I unchecked audio in the Advanced tab given under the section in SHARE which indicates Presets, File Name, and Save in. I rendered a 720p file with audio unchecked, which played fine in Windows Media Player. Then I decided to put it in another software program I have and noticed that the file did not play until the end. I discovered that the Windows file length listed in the Details of the file (which also appears on the information given about a file that is displayed on the screen when Details is selected in the Windows Explorer listing for the file). The length listed is shorter than the actual length of the video clip as given in Premiere Elements timeline and sceneline views. Because of the incorrect listing in the details of the rendered file, my other software only incorporates the video clip up until the length listed in Windows Explorer for the video file. This does not happen when I leave audio checked in the Advanced tab. But remember, I don't want to use the audio. Yes, I can trick the software with the length if I add "extra video" to my project, but I really do not want to do that. Can anyone help?

Thanks, very much, for the information. It worked! I just had to delete audio as you suggested. I should add that I had to do this for each segmented video clip on the timeline.

  • No longer able to adjust the length of a video clip in imovie 6 HD

Without warning (or reason) I can no longer adjust the length of a video clip (new or old) in imovie. I've tried the old way of highlighting the clip and putting the cursor at the start or end, but the cursor doesn't change. I've also tried double clicking on the clip but then the length is fixed.
This problems happens in new and old movies and remained after I deleted and reinstalled imovie.

I searched further using the correct word (trim) and found that I had to turn off the audio levels

  • Why Does My Mp3 Audio Behind Video Clip Cut To Length Of Video Clip?

Ok. So I am trying to put together a music video using iMovie 11, and am having the hardest time getting started. I put my selected video clip up on the dashboard to get ready to cut as well as edit the footage. When i put the Mp3(Song) on the dashboard it automatically cuts to the length of the amount of video footage that is on the dashboard at that time. I have tried to lengthen the duration of the mp3 using the settings feature given on the audio clip, but it automatically jumps back to the duration of the amount of video clip. Ultimately I am trying to lengthen my duration, and have my mp3 the full length of the song to stay for the whole project, which gives me room and a real chance to work with my clips. I figure that it is something very conspicuous that I am missing. I'm sure it is just a minor issue, and would love if somebody could help assist me with this problem. Please, and thank you your time is much appreciated.

    Hey Matt,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re trying to add an audio track to your iMovie project but you’re running into an issue adjusting the length of the track. If you haven't already, try making audio waveforms visible in the Project browser as shown in the article linked below.
iMovie '11: Set the beginning and end of a sound or music clip
    Using audio waveforms:
With audio waveforms visible in the Project browser, you can modify aspects of all the sound elements in your project in the same window. This feature is especially useful if you have many changes to make to your project’s audio.
These instructions apply to modifying the startpoints and endpoints of audio you’ve added to your project, or audio you’ve detached from video. These instructions don’t apply to modifying the audio recorded with, and still attached to, your video, or to modifying background music you’ve added.
With your project open, click the Audio Waveform button below the Project browser.
Waveforms for each of the sound elements in your project appear in green, blue, or purple bands below the video clips. Blue waveforms represent the sound that was recorded with your video. Green waveforms represent sounds and music you’ve added to your project. Purple waveforms represent voiceovers or audio that was detached from a video clip. Names appear in the top-left corner of each green or purple waveform to make it easy to identify them.
Select the sound clip you want to trim by clicking its name at the top of its waveform; the clip becomes outlined in yellow.
Move your pointer over either end of the clip so that it turns into a resize pointer (if the clip has a jagged edge, it means the clip is split onto two lines), and then do one or both of the following:
To set where the sound clip starts playing, drag its left edge to the right or left.
To set where the sound clip stops playing, drag its right edge to the right or left.
    Cheers.
    -Jason

  • Matching Video/Audio Clip Lengths

I import a series of video clips (from 35 mm slides) into the video track time line, each 7 seconds in length with transitions. If desired, I may reorder the sequence of these clips. Then I add voice-over for each clip on an audio track. The voice over time for a particular video clip may run 10-15 seconds. To extend the video clip time to match the length of the audio clip, I set an "in" and "out" marker to match the length of the audio clip, drag the video clip from the Browser to "fit to fill" in the canvas thus extending the time of the video clip. Is there a more efficient way of extending the length of the video clip to match the length of the voice-over clip? Many thanks. Jack A2

Are these still images or video clips? You said they came from slides is why I ask. One way is to use the ripple tool to lengthen the clips in the timeline.

  • IMovie '09 dv video capture clip length too short

I have a Sony DV video camera connected to my Mac with a firewire cable.  When I do a video capture on most of my videos, everything is fine.  On others, it captures about 1000 unique video clips for a minute or two of video.  I get 1000 clips ranging from 0.1 seconds to maybe 1.5 seconds in length.  Has anyone seen this?  Any ideas whats causing it?

You can always download the free trial version of Veescope Live and try capturing with that.  Just connect your camera to your computer, start Veescope Live, click the camera input, press play on your camera and then press the record button on Veescope Live.

  • IMovie 09 with incorrect dates from iPhoto video clips ?

Hello. I just noticed that the majority of dates in my iMovie 09 for my iPhoto video clips all show the date for 1903. I need to go back and change the date in too many video clips to count. Is there an easier way to go back to the orginal dates? Thank you.

NeddySeagoon - wondering if you found the answer to this?
I too have iPhoto videos showing up in iMovie fine, but the dates are wrong in iMovie (correct in iPhoto).
Also, I have updated video titles in iPhoto, but those titles are not showing up consistently in iMovie. Perhaps related issue, I'm not sure.
Any idea if this could be a permissions issue? (Video is stored on an external drive). Or something else?
    Thanks!

  • How do you add additional video clips to a multicamera sequence after aligning multiple cameras?

We shoot extended videos (1-2 hours in length)  all the training videos I've seen for CC walk you though aligning the inital cuts and then editing, but they don't say how to add the rest of the clips from that session to each video track.  Any tips?

Thanks Mark - That worked.  By the way, in case there are any other rookies out there trying to create a multicam sequence like this, make sure that you 1) create the MultiCam Source Sequence and then 2) right click on the Multicam sequence icon in the project window and then 3) choose open in timeline.
Once the project is open, verify that the camera views are sync'd and then drag the follow on video clips to the end of the appropriate video track.  Once that is done, right click on the Multicam icon again and choose New Sequence from clip and your complete project will be ready to edit.
Thanks Mark for the quick response.

  • Replacing a photo or video clip

    Hello,
What is the easiest way of replacing a photo or video clip with a different photo or video clip on the timeline without messing up the overall sequence or length of the video?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
You can do a replace edit. Place the playhead at the start point of the clip you want to replace in timeline. Open the new clip in viewer (with this playhead at the in point or start point). Drag the new clip on the edit ovelay in canvas to the replace option. This process will work only and only if there is enough material in the new clip to cover the old one. The 3 edit points method can be used to do a more precise job. See the manual.

  • Why would my video clips be running too fast when played on the monitor panel?

I posted my problem earlier today, but re-reading it maybe I didn't explain myself well enough.
My main question is: "why would my video clips be running too fast when played on the monitor panel ?".  This is occuring after I have selected my media from the Tasks Panel and placed them in correct order in the Timeline/Sceneline.  I knew something was wrong when I could see that the clips were not indicating their right length when viewed in the (expanded) timeline.  They were compressed into just a few seconds, whereas the clips should have been at least 5 minutes.  I ran the clips in the monitor and sure enough they ran too fast, with a lot of jerking movements.
The 3 video clips I am trying to make into a HD PAL video were taken with my Nokia N8 mobile video camera. These are in mp4 format. Can this present a problem ?  Note that when I play these individual HD clips on my computer in (Windows Media Player) they run fine.
After I placed the clips in my Project Panel (or before in the Organize Workspace), I have perforned no change or manipulation of the clips.  They are in their original state.
Just too confirm that the clips did seem to be compressed, I burnt a DVD, the resultant video ran in a matter of seconds.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that is what the problem was.
Although the video camera on my Nokia N8, mobile was capturing at 25fps,
for some reason once transfered over to PrE9 (via file transfer), the clip was interpreted as 500fps.  Once in Interpret Footage I was able to change the fps to 25.
    Thanks for the help.

  • A tip how to make iMovie '08 rescan the iPhoto library for video clips

I could not figure out how to easily force iMovie '08 to rescan all iPhoto library video clips. My problem was that my Casio S880 videos had the audio format DVI ADPCM which is not supported by iMovie '08. I made a script which transcoded all my iPhoto library videos' audio track to AAC. But after this was done, the iMovie didn't still show them in iPhoto videos. iMovie checks only for NEW entries in iPhoto Library after last scan.
One simple workaround is to duplicate the transcoded video in iPhoto and then delete the original. But if you have a lot of clips here is a better way to do this:
NOTE: This trick does not reimport already imported clips. This trick is useful only if you want to force iMovie '08 to recheck old iPhoto movie clips if they are now valid for iMovie '08 or not.
    1. Close iMovie '08
    2. Open file HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie7.plist with the Property List Editor application (I think the application is part of Apple Developer Tools, I'm not sure if included in default installation). You may want to take a backup of the property file before opening it!
    3. Find "lastiPhotoXMLDate" property and change the date value to be some older date, for example if you want to scan all files just change the year part to 1980 or similar.
    4. Save the property file
    5. Open iMovie '08, it should now check all iPhoto movie clips again if they are valid for iMovie '08.
The same thing can be achieved by just deleting the HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie7.plist file, but then you lose all your other settings.

I apologize for my confusion on your question.  I find that depending on the principal of each photo and my target audience to determine the time frame for each photo.  It seems most people get impatient with viewing one photo for more than 1-2 seconds if the photo is not complex.
If there are several things that interests the viewers in any one image, they want to look at it a second or two longer.  If the movie of images is a training aid, the images may need to be more than 3 seconds.  For intro's, or a trailer for a training movie, no longer than 1-2 seconds.
That was a long answer to say, generally speaking, I find 3 seconds to be an average time length.
