Video clips don't show up - just a box with a red X

Still images show up fine but video clips brough in either directly or using Send To Color from within FCP don't show up:
1. When I use import it won't bring the clip in at all
2. When I use FCP to send to color it just shows a red square box with a red X through it.
Using MBPro 17"

BTW, the clip is a 720x486 D1 Motion JPEG A clip - 5 seconds long @29.97fps. Also, still images don't open - guess they are not supported? Could the Motion JPEG A also be an unsupported format?

Importing video clips into slide shows

I often insert video clips into slide shows. They mix nicely with pan and zoom still photos. However, the type of video clips that can be inserted is very restricted. Why is this?
Elements can deal with a wide variety of video formats but, as far as I can see, only AVI and WMV videos can be imported into slide shows. Compact digital cameras typically use AVI, MOV and MP4 formats. My camera produces MPG videos, which I cannot import. I have to convert the clips into AVI format and reimport these into Organiser etc - which is very fiddly. I am considering buying a new camera that produces AVI video clips as standard.
Why is the choice of video formats so limited? I cannot find a list of allowable formats on the Adobe site.

Thanks for this. I tried that, but again, Streamclip only imported content from the first clip, ignoring the rest...on further inspection, all the VOB files were sub-divisions of the the first item (in essence, the system had chopped up the first recording into sections and formatted them as VOB files, but failed to do that for the remaining content of the DVD).
I booked an appt with a Mac Genius today and he downloaded Handbrake and this appears to be the way forward - you can isolate any of the content from the DVD, and save into either avi or mp4 files. I currently don't need Streamclip, since after my selection's been saved unto the desktop it can be dragged into iMovie and edited from there. I'll be keeping Steamclip though...after all of the aggro, it seems to good to be true!

Entire frame of mini-dv video clips do NOT show in the iMovie '11 viewer in playback mode

I am editing a wedding video in iMovie11 that was recorded on a mini dv tape. When I move video clips from the event library to the timeline, the entire frame is displayed in the timeline. However, the entire frame of the video clip does NOT show in the iMovie viewer or when I playback the video. I exported the video and burned it to a dvd using Toast 11 pro. The video recorded to the dvd as it was showing in the iMovie viewer... the full frame does not show. I would certainly appreciate any advice as to how to solve my problem. THANK YOU!!!

Is your video shot in 16:9 aspect ratio or 4:3?
You can go to File/Project Properties and set the aspect ratio for the project.
When you get a clip that does not match the project's aspect ratio, you use the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tool on the middle toolbar to specify how it should be treated.
FIT will place the entire clip in the movie, and will letterbox (black bars) so that it fits.
CROP will fill the screen, but will cut off the top and bottom of your frame.

Emails that I've sent don't show in the "sent" box and I can't attach a "sent" sound

Emails that I've sent on my ipad don't show in the "sent" box. Also, I can't attach a sound to sent emails.

I have been having the same problem.
Since August 3, Mail has not received any new messages from my hotmail account. Up until August 3, Mail has been performing flawlessly for years, handling three different email accounts [two of the accounts were disabled in Mail a few months ago].
I have the "Activity" window [Window>Activity] in Mail open. The activity window clearly shows that Mail is "Preparing to retrieve messages". But nothing is retrieved. And when I go to my email via web browser, it clearly shows that I have received email messages since August 3.
And the Connection Doctor in Mail [Window>Connection Doctor] clearly shows a green light for my hotmail/Outlook account.
I have no clue what is happening.
Just for giggles, I enabled my other other email accounts. Both retrieved emails flawlessly. Maybe Hotmail/Outlook has changed some of its security settings???

Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
Next, close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

It's not the HDMI cable.
If you had a power surge, your Apple TV probably just needs to be restored. That logo means you need to plug it into a computer with iTunes installed to restore the device to factory settings. You'll need a micro-USB cable to do so. Plug the usb into the apple tv in the micro-USB slot, then into the computer with iTunes already opened. A screen will appear in iTunes with a button to restore the device.
If you don't have the appropriate cable on hand you can make an appointment at an Apple Store and they'll restore it for you. Just go to locate.apple.com to find the closest location and make an appointment. Keep in mind if you can't or don't go to an Apple Store a private repair place may charge for this service.

Try selecting the thumbnails (Shift+Click) or (Ctrl+A) to select all, then click on the top menu
Edit à Update Thumbnail For Selected Items
If that doesn’t work close Elements and delete the thumbnail cache by navigating to:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\MyCatalog
In side the MyCatalog folder (or whatever name you gave your catalog) you should find a CACHE file:
thumb.5.cache
After deleting that file restart the elements Organizer and wait whilst it regenerates thumbnails.
N.B. The ProgramData folder is sometimes a system hidden file, in which case please follow these instructions before starting.

I currently run OS X 10.10.1
Now i have been trying to work on this for a while now and what i want to do should be simple but its apparently not.
Here is an example of what i want to happen.
I will have 2 tabs: Contact | Sales
Now Contacts will have the list of names and various information about a customer, While Sales will have one drop-down box for each Cell Row that will show the names of the person in tab contacts
for what i am wanting to do i cant use the data format pop-up menu because the list is edited everyday several times a day.
Now how do i do this, Excel can do this so how can numbers do it?

First make sure you are using the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a good wall outlet. When the iPad battery is completely drained it may take some time on the charger before the iPad responds. Be patient and let the iPad remain on the charger for at least an hour then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is at 100%. If the iPad does not restart Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Importing .mov files - clips don't show up!

I'm pretty new to macs, I've been on PCs for my entire life. So bear with me! I've been following tutorials and searching everywhere but nothings working.
First, I created a video clip in PhotoBooth. I did this using my Macbook's internal camera. It was saved as movie1.mov
Then I went to iMovie and I created a new project. Then I went and imported movie1.mov from Photobooth. Well okay it says it imported it but NOTHING shows up! I can't see any sections of my video I just imported.
I've tried switching the views, switching EVERYTHING I can think of.
Why can't I see the clips?
If Photobooth doesn't work well what should I use then?
This is driving me CRAZZZY! Where is it??

I did figure out how to import from photo booth and its quite simple. All you have to do is drag the clip straight from photo booth into one of your events in iMovie.
You can use iMovie to record clips thought. For your purposes it would be easier. Here is how to do that...
1. Open iMovie
2. Click on the Camera Import Button (left hand side under the projects Library. Looks like a video camera)
3. A widow will pop up. Make sure you are set to use *Built-in iSight* (select using drop-down arrow in the left hand corner)
4. When you are ready press *Capture Button*. It will ask you what event to put your clips. You have the option of making a new one or adding the video to an existing one.
5. Once you select your event your video will be recorded. When you are done press the stop button
5. Once you are finished press the done button and the window will go away. From there you can find, edit and view your clips using the event library.
I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions about this or my instructions I'll be happy to help.

How do you increase the size of a video clip in slide show?

Using Elements 7. Video clips can be run in full screen when from the Organizer, but when playing the slide show, they only display about 1/3 the size of the screen with a large black border around them.

Thought I'd try this just in case they are stripping out attachments.

IPhoto pictures/video clips won't show up in iMovie HD 6

I'm currently working on a video project for a class and have been using pictures and video clips from iPhoto to build the movie. However, all of a sudden, when I click on the "Media" pane in iMovie, the box under 'photos' is completely blank. I can;t get my iPhoto library to show up there at all.
Can someone PLEASE help me? I have no idea what happened!!

Nevermind, after looking through previous posts I found the answer to my question.
I just went into iPhoto preferences and deleted all the keywords. For some reason this brought my whole iPhoto library back to iMovie!

Ipad Video App don´t show 2 lines subtitles

I´m using homesharing to stream the movies i have in my itunes computer. i have many video files in Full HD
The problem only happen in the Ipad Video App, works fine in the Iphone Video App
The problem only happen with video files that have height of 1920x816 (I test with files with resolution 1920x1280, 1920x800, 1920,812, 1920x814, 1920x816, 1918x816, 1920,820, 1792x1080, 1920x1040)

UPDATE to this CURRENT LOCATION on iPad / iPhone / Find My iPhone issue -
I have a iPad that kept showing my OLD adress in Orlando Fl on BOTH google maps and Apple Maps, even after I moved up north to South Carolina. I tried everything. I then tried my FIND MY iPHONE on my Macbook Pro and same thing. Annoying.
This evening I set up my BACK TO MY MAC so i could acess my Time Capsule from work. After I set it up, and just for grins, i renewed the DHCP Lease while doing this. After the Time Capsule rebooted, my iPad displayed the correct location immediately. My macbook pro was still showing the OLD location in my FIND MY iPHONE. Did a restart and BAM, its all good.
Not sure if it was the renew or restart of the Airport Extreme Time Capsule.
