Video clips playing simultaneously

Hey all,
New to the Final Cut stuff, so I was wondering how I could play one video clip over another.
I want one clip to be just as it was when I filmed it, and the one I play over it to be opaque, so I can see the other clip beneath it. Basically, it is a scene that I filmed twice, where I want one character to be ghostly, and the other to maintain his earthly appearance.

If I understand your need, you should in fact isolate the subject (a person I guess) in the top V2 clip from the rest of the scene around it, so only its picture appears as a ghost on top of the scene behind.
As I suggested before, this is a bit more difficult, mostly if the subject is moving in the clip.
One technique is to use a Matte, for example eight or four-point-garbage-matte (in the Video Filters bin), to isolate the subject from its background. However if the subject moves you have also to "move" the matte by applying keyframes to its points; this however is not a "lesson one" type of things...
Another technique is to use Chroma Keyer, but this works only if you shot the scene with your subject in front of a green or blue screen: then this filter will remove the background colour and only the subject will be overlayed.
I'm not sure all these tips are actually helping you, if your are just starting now with FCE. In any case you could try; but also read some introductory book like Final Cut Express HD 3.5 Editing Workshop by Tom Wolsky.

Multiple clips playing simultaneously

Hello,
I am a complete newbie to Final Cut Pro. I have this movie I want to make which I can't do in iMovie. The video is a song I wrote with me singing all the parts, and I want the movie to show all the clips of me singing simultaneously. I managed to film all the clips, and get them spliced and named in final cut pro, and I have the audio file locked in the right place. Can someone tell me the basic command I need to use to get the simultaneous video clip thing going? Hopefully I'll be able to read that section of the manual and make it work, but I have no idea where to begin.
Also: what is the deal with rendering? If I've got this straight, I have to render a clip each time I've changed it in any way in order to view it in the Canvas?

Why is my DVD project freezing when a video clip plays?

Hi -
I have a simple Encore(CS5 Mac) project that is that is "stalling" when played.
The content of the DVD is made from an After Effects(CS5.5 Mac) project so I think I should provide information on that. The 30sec AE project is mostly timeline animation until the last 6 seconds which is video footage. The 7 second video clip is scaled way down from it's original dimensions and then masked off to fit in an area of the AE stage.
I rendered the AE project to a QT MOV with No compression. In this format it was a very large file (939MB) but it played flawlessly in Quicktime on my desktop.
Then I brought that MOV into Encore as a timeline, added a one button menu, and burned a DVD.
The prpoject plays fine until that video comes on. At that instant - the picture freezes for a few seconds - then plays for a second and then freezes again. It does this stop and go until the video ends and then the DVD returns to the simple opening menu.
It seems to choke at the same time each time I replay it but I can't be 100% sure. It's almost as if the disc actually stops spinning.
Why would the DVD freeze when the video content of my DVD project played? What can I do to fix this?

While I am familiar with the brand name, Imagtion, I do not know what their business model is. Some companies, like Memorex buy the cheapest blank media of that day, and rebrand it, with their logo. Others do the same thing. Poor quality blank media can cause all sorts of issues, such as hanging and skipping - hence my question.
I would do a test burn with high-quality blank media, such as Falcon, Taiyo-Yuden or Verbatim, and then burn about 4x on the speed. Test to see if that disc plays, without the skipping and hangling.

My video clip plays too slowly. How do I set the playback speed?

I am just learning how to use Premier Pro. When I import the video clip and put it into the sequence section, the clip plays extremely slowly - more like still photography.
What am I doing or not doing to cause this?

HT3775 Why won't a video clip play all the way through without stopping and loading so many times?

Any video clip that comes via email will not play all the way through without stopping so many times to load that a short clip takes 10 minutes to watch. Sometimes, the video simply stops and loads forever and ceases to work at all.
This happens for Youtube videos also.
I am using a Snow Leopard Imac.

Uninstall the currently installed Flash plugin then reinstall new.
Very important to uninstall the old first.
Uninstall > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Then reinstall new from here > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Then restart your Mac.

Usa today videos all play simultaneously

This is very peculiar. If I'm on the USA Today site, and read an article, then go back to the home page, all of a sudden any and every video clip within USA Today starts to run. It is impossible to stop them unless I close that tab
Anyone else have this issue?

How do I get video clips to play on my iMac account? My wife doesn't have this problem on her iMac account.

When I try to download and play a video clip at a web site or from an attachment to an email, I get either a blank space or a message telling me to download and install Abobr Flash Player. I already have the latest Flash Player. And when I try the same video clip on my wife's iMac account, the video clip plays perfectly.

I found the solution to my problem, so now I can play video clips at web sites & attachments to email. The solution was: "Safari → Preference → Security → check box "Enable plug-in". I got a hint from Troubleshooting on the Yahoo.com web site. Thanks everyone.

Aperture - when you have saved a multi-media slideshow and you export it how do you make sure the audio track retains the volume drops that you programme in? I have video clips with audio, which when they play in the slideshow, I fade the audio (music)?

Aperture - Sorry I'm new to this so this might be a bit long! I put together an aperture slideshow with a backing music track and some video interspersed with photos. When I exported it to put on you tube the audio backing track had not saved the fades that I had programmed when the video clips played. The video clips had audio on them that I set at one volume whilst fading the backing track. these fades didn't save on the exported version. Any suggestions please? Regards, Maxjackpete

Audio from video clips not playing

this is weird, the audio associated with my video clips plays in the viewer, all the audio wave are present, but they are not all playing with the time line. one clips audio starts playing then cuts out. All my other tracks (music) are playing good. I have tried selecting and deselecting, and mute, also tried restarting, rendering and unrendering, and everything else mentioned in other similar cases with no luck. I am running a system with an inadequate graphics card, but this is audio right, simple right?

If your audio is 32 bit, then it's not 16 bit.
You audio will need to match your sequence settings. You are likely looking for audio to be 48Khz/16bit
Take the offending piece of audio and export it with the appropriate settings to match your sequence.
1 Select your sequence, then choose Sequence > Settings.
2 Check the sample rate of the sequence in the Audio Settings area of the General tab,
then click OK.
3 Select the offending audio clip in the Browser that you want to convert to a new sample rate.
4 Choose File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion.
5 Choose AIFF from the Format pop-up menu.
6 Click Options.
7 In the Sound section of the Movie Settings dialog, click Settings.
8 In the Rate pop-up menu, choose the sample rate of your sequence, then click OK.
Make sure the size is kept at 16-bit.
9 Click OK.
10 Choose a new name and location for the new file, then click Save.
Once the conversion is complete, you need to import the new media file into
Final Cut Pro.
11 Import the newly converted audio media file, and use that as the audio portion of your clip.

How do you add video clips to an iPhoto slideshow?

I've made a slideshow for my daughter's graduation. I tried to include a couple of video clips in it, but when the slideshow gets to the first one the screen goes black and the video doesn't play. How do I do this the correct way? I use iPhoto '11

Do the video clips play in iPhoto at all?
What theme for the slideshow are you using?
Where are the video clips from?
Are you using any transitions between slides particularly the video clip?
Have you tried putting the video clip in a slideshow by itself and see if it will play?

Preloaders for my video clips in Dreamweaver

I’ve been trying to get a Preloader to work with my
video clips playing in Dreamweaver. I have many short video clips
on my site, from 1 to 3 Megs starting up as their download is
completed. I’d like to have a pre-loader give my viewers a
heads-up that video is coming, but I haven’t been able to
make it happen yet. I've been through the tutorials and getting
closer.
In Scene 1 (titled: loader) I’m using a simple
"LOADING..." animation I made.
In Scene 2 (titled: main) I have the video clip, sized to fit
the table in Dreamweaver with a URL linking to the full video on
the web.
Here’s the code that I’m using and the error

The problem seems to be solved and the scene method is
working well! I put about 14 clips with pre-loaders attached up on
my site within Dreamweaver. Sometimes the clips are loading fast
and I don’t need to have each clip display a pre-loader.
I’m still working out the details on another preloading
file that has a row of pictures attached which is requiring more
coding - I’m trying to figure this out now.

Cannot export video clips from iPhoto to Finder folder. Export fails with message "unable to create video for export: "
The video clips play correctly within iPhoto.
Software: iPhoto version 9.5 on OSX 10.9
Hardware: Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 i7 8GB

Yes. I have 3,184 video clips in this library. I tested Reveal function by randomly selecting individual video clips and in every case the Reveal in Finder function worked correctly. I also tested this on random selections of groups of video clips and, again, the Reveal function worked correctly in every case.
Some more info that may be relevant:
I have multiple iPhoto libraries. My "main" library is very large (~30,000 files) and is located on an external hard drive (2TB WD) which is connected via USB.
The problem reported here is occuring on that "main" library. I have not opened any other iPhoto library since installing the new release.
While the File>Export function does not work, I have been able to simply copy and paste video clips from iPhoto library to a folder on Mac hard drive. It appears that meta data is copying correctly along with the video content.
I am able to import these copied video clips to iMovie. Meta data is imported along with the video content and I'm able to perform iMovie editing functions on those clips without any problems.
In summary, the File>Export function still fails with the message "unable to create video for export." Copying video clips and pasting them to interim folder seems to be a viable workaround enabling me to extract video clips from iPhoto for import to iMovie. I will run additional tests to see if I can find a pattern to the video files that are being rejected by iPhoto Export function.

Inserting video clip and have both audios at once

Hi everyone, hopefully somone can help answer my question. My friend has a video blog and the person who used to do all of his technical stuff is no longer with him, so he's trying to figure it all out, and I figured I'd try to help him.
In iMovie, does anyone know how to insert a video clip into the main video clip and have the inserted video being shown on the screen but the audio of both videos playing at the same time, with no break in continuity of the main video's audio? Then, how to transition from the inserted video with both audios playing at the same time back to just the main video, again with no breaks in audio continuity? I know it's possible on FinalCut Pro, because that is what his tech person used, but for some reason that program freezes my friend's computer, so he's stuck with iMovie for now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for your reply devbear11. You ALMOST got what I was asking for. I'm sorry if my wording is confusing, lol. Everything you said is great, EXCEPT that I want to KEEP the audio on the inserted video in ADDITION to the audio on the original clip. So to break it down....
- Main video clip is playing.
- Segue into the inserted video clip. Have the screen be showing the inserted video clip and have it be playing it's own audio, WITHOUT interrupting the audio of the original/main video.
- Inserted video clip plays on the screen and you hear both the audio of the inserted video clip in addition to whatever my friend is saying on the main audio....To give you an example, my friend blogs about figure skating. So he will be discussing a competition and the screen is showing him at his desk talking about the different skaters. While he is discussing a certain skater, he may input a clip of their performance and you will see and hear them skating to their music, but still be able to hear him discussing it uninterrupted in the background.
- Once the inserted clip ends, the video switches back to my friend at his desk, with his commentary uninterrupted.
Am I making sense? lol

What is the easiest way to use a video clip as the DVD's menu and have titles?

Ok, I"m using Ppro CS4, and I have a clip that i would like to be the title screen when the DVD starts. I then want to click on something like Play movie that will play the movie.
I want the Menu to be the actual video clip playing in the background. I am going to be importing several projects from CS3 into the fished version and would like these to be set up as seperate from the main movie......but something that can be clicked on and watched. (I guess I'm wanting titles)
any help would be appreciated. I have searched around and kind figure out how to do this. Do I need to use AFter Effects, or Encore, or what.

I would suggest that you post this to the Adobe Encore>Menus & Buttons forum. What you want to do, if I read correctly, is pretty simple. There will probalby be links available to step you though it. I'll look for this there, and start gathering some links.

Audio from video clips in FCP X not importing into timeline

All my video clips play with sound in preview. Once I select my clip and drag it into the timeline, the audio disappears. It's not muted, In the top right information box, it only says Video/Info.
I have instrumental music playing in the background, but I would like a specific clip to play with sound, and it's just not working out. Am I doing something wrong?

Is the timeline set to edit source video and audio?
