Video Codec: "None"

When exporting to a lossless file, "None" is selected under Codec. Is there actually 'no' codec used for this export setting, or is it some kind of uncompressed lossless codec with no name? The file size is extremely huge.

I was getting a 2GB file for a few seconds of video, and only a few MB for another lossless codec that I'm sure does use compression.
Correct.  There's a way to check in AE if a losless codec changed the footage during rendering: put the original footage in a comp, add the rendered footage and apply the Difference blen mode.  The differences will appear.
But it really should be okay with a lossless codec.  Think of zipping a long work processor document.  The file size is smaller, but when you unzip it,you fully expect every letter, number and punctuation mark to be present an in the proper places.  That's a lossles codec.

  • Media Encoder CS6 Avid DNxHD video codec settings do not update in video settings tab

I want to encode a file to Avid DNxHD, but I am unable to change the resolution in the codec settings. I am choosing Avid DNxHD codec within the video codec tab, then clicking on codec settings and choosing a resolution from the resolutions pulldown menu. It will let me choose different resolutions from that menu, but after I hit okay, it has no effect on changing the video settings the way it's supposed to. For instance, if I try to encode a file that is 1280x720 with a source frame rate of 23.98, and I choose 1080i/59.94 DNxHD 145 8-bit, the frame size and frame rate does not change in the video settings tab. I am running Media Encoder CS6.0.2 on a Mac with OS 10.8.4. I am using Avid quicktime codecs v.2.3.7, because my system is running Avid Symphony 6.0.2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No one ever responded unfortunately and I never figured out a work around.
In Media Encoder CC there is a system preset for DNxHD MXF which I've used
to yield Avid files. The weird thing is that the CC version does the exact
same thing as the CS6 if you choose quicktime, DNxHD codec, and try to
change the codec settings. None of the settings update. If you find out
anything more about this I'd appreciate getting an update. Thanks!

  • PE4 Video Codec Help Please

I have two video files types that will not import in PE4. They play fine in VLC media player and I have not found a way to convert them into a usable file, let alone a usable file that maintains the original video quality.
File 1 is a .avi file with XVID video codec at 720x400 and 30 frame rate. Audio is mpga mono 32kHz 64 kb/s.
File 2 is .avi file with XVID video codec at 640x480 and 30 frame rate. Audio is araw mono 8kHz 16b/s.
I would like to either convert these to a usable file or upgrade PE4 so that they will play.
    Any suggestions?

Even with the DivX/Xvid CODEC's, it is likely that neither file will edit well in PE. VLC player has its own set of CODEC's, so it will play most formats and CODEC's.
Now, there is a great difference between playing an AV file and editing that same file. Having the right CODEC's (or access to them through a player like VLC) will only insure playability. Most NLE (Non Linear Editing) programs can work with but a few for editing. As John points out, DV-AVI Type II is what PE (and big-brother PrPro) want most.
You are best to convert these heavily compressed delivery format files to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, BEFORE Import.
Even with the proper CODEC's installed, the most common problems with DivX/Xvid will be no Video, no Audio or horrible OOS (Out Of Sync) issues. Conversion BEFORE Import will usually solve these and allow you to edit the larger converted file. Now, the quality lost in the DivX/Xvid compression will still be gone - can't bring that back. Still, you might be able to live with the results. Only you can tell.
    Good luck,

  • What is the best video codec for use in Keynote?

I need to play some videos in a Keynote presentation. They can be 320x480 if necessary. Is there a recommended codec to use that minimizes playback stutter, dropped frames, bad audio sync and crashing the program?

    David,
I also am having trouble with video in Keynote. I tried MPEG-4 and H.264 at 640 x 480 x 29.97fps (the "Web Download - LAN" setting in Compressor), but I always get pretty bad stuttering on playback. Is there any magic compression setting I'm missing here?
I'm playing it back on various machines with the same results - 1Ghz G4 iMac / 1.3 Ghz iBook / Dual 1.42 Ghz PowerMac. None of them have super beefy memory (512 - 768MB) but I'd think the stuttering issue would be with the processor not being able to keep up, no? Or is this task handed over to the video card?
The luck I've currently had as been with the Motion JPEG video codec. IIRC, it is supposed to be very light on the processor during playback so the overhead of Keynote doesn't seem to affect it as much. The trade off is the video files are huge.
    Thoughts?

  • Unable to export Quicktime after upgrade from Premiere 7.0 to 8.0 (2014) error "incompatible video codec in preset"

In the previous version of Premiere Pro (downloaded two months ago) I was able to export QuickTime files with preset HD 720p H.264.  It was very easy to do this in the previous version.
Upgraded to Premiere Pro 8.0 (2014), no when I attempt to export the same project with the same settings I see error message "incompatible video codec found in the preset. present load failed"
When I select Quicktime, the default preset appears as NTSC DV Widescreen 24p.   Attempted to export with this setting, result is a file that plays audio but no video.
System is Windows, tried two different computers, including one with Windows 8, same result. Tried Media Encoder, same result.
I searched the forums for an answer, the new features page lists these presets as available however they are not working for me.  Nothing else was changed on the computer, only the upgrade to Premiere 8.0 (2014)
How can I export Quicktime files in the new Premiere Pro?

Tech support helped me solve the issue - uninstall QuickTime and reinstall the newer version of QuickTime

  • Component video codec

okay awhile back i asked about why the quality setting couldn't be adjusted for the component video codec...not truly answered though i appreciate dick napoli for jumping in...anyway now it's just gone! no component video codec at all. anything else missing??? isn't there a file for what has been changed or fixed in each update? where is that at?

Many older codecs have been placed in "legacy" status in QuickTime Pro exports and the Player playback preferences. Some for security issues that are real threats and others because Apple is trying to discourage their use to maintain future compatibility with some of these ancient codecs.
Open the QuickTime Control Panel / Advanced tab and check the box to "show legacy encoders".

  • What video codecs other than "avc1" will show .mp4 as a TV program?

What video codecs other than "avc1" will show .mp4 as a TV program in iTunes?
Some of my TV shows have the video codec "mp4v" and show only as movies in iTunes.
My Philips portable DVD player will play .mp4's with video codec "mp4v" but not "avc1".
I'd like to save only one format of the files. Is there a conversion or update that will allow iTunes to identify the "mp4v" as a TV show?

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer

I can not find solution to the issue "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer" while attempting to play the file with *.wmv extension. Some computer fail in spite of said missing codec
being present according the windrows media player in Windows 7 box

If Rashid's link does not resolve it... consider the below:
    A)  As of this writing, the codec for GoToMeeting webinar recordings ("G2M4" codec) was only mentioned in *one* web page, of about 10 Microsoft web pages I read, to resolve this problem (and that codec is not included, yet, in their diagnostic tool),
so if you're trying to play a GoToMeeting webinar, simply get the codec for it from their site:  http://www.GoToMeeting.com/codec
    B)  If Windows Media Player (WMP) will not even open the file, you won't be able to get the 4-character codec's name (like "G2M4") from WMP.  But VLC's media player will tell you that code, even when it fails to run the video.... and then you can
    search the internet for it.
    C)  The problem sometimes is not actually a missing codec.  Other things that have helped others, some from:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/the-windows-media-player-12-could-not-play-the-wma/bb823460-44df-4e8d-ba2c-42ec0e111e5a?page=3
    (1) running the System File Checker (SFC.exe),
    (2) opening WMP first (running both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions) then opening the file from inside them,
    (3) confirming that WMP was the file association for WMV files,
    (4) Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound, selecting my audio device, and looking for a "5.1" setting (I didn't have one), to change to "stereo",
    (5) checking Tools\Options\Devices\Speakers\Properties\Speaker Properties\AdvancedPlayback\ Speakers /HP\Properties\Advanced\Default Format, to select "CD or DVD Quality" (if that setting appears for your device),
    Good luck,

  • Satellite A80: How to restore audio and video codecs?

How can I restore the audio and video codecs which are installed by default on my Satellite A80 with XP Home edition?
I removed them in safe mode because of a problem with the Pinnacle Codec installed by Pinnacle Studio 10.
Now I need to set the standard audio en video codecs back.
I already downloaded the codec package from Microsoft Mediaplayer and have sound en video again in Media Player.
Unfortunately I still don't have sound in Toshiba Diagnose Program when testing Midi and Wave sound.
System restore came up with the message that restore was not possible because no changes had been made.
    Message was edited by: roel

Have investigated in the forum and found this different codecs:
    -Zsunami Filter Pack: (3.9.9)
    - Nimo Codec Pack: (5.0 Final)
    - ACE Mega CoDeC Pack: (5.93)
    - Codec Pack Elisoft: (13.505)
    - K-Lite Codec Pack: (2.2) Full
    - SLD Codec Pack: (1.5 Pro)
    - All in One: (5.0.6.1)
    - The Codecs: (1.1 full)
Well, if the system restore does't work try to install one or several codecs from this list.
Have found it in this posting:

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • Premiere Pro Update 7.2.1 has lost Video Codec

When I'm Exporting a video the option for Video Codec Tap under the Export Settings has been removed with the new Update, on the 19th December 2013. Can anyone help tell me how I can export my video as a 1080p ProRes 422 (HQ).
    Thanks

for all interested - i solved the problem.
after a few tryouts the system kept spitting out this error: "Adobe QT32server.exe The program can't start becaue MSVCP80.dll is missing"
this got solved by reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4.
with the error message gone nothing really changed - premiere pro CC insisted on not reading prores files while still reading dnxhd files from the black magic cinema camera.
i reinstalled the whole CC suite - same situation.
last but ot least i tried to uninstall anything with an apple logo on it - just to find out that you can not remove all of the components entirely without using 3rd party tools.
after that i reinstalled the prores decoder 1.0 along with the latest quicktime version (7.7.5).
    voilá.
