Video Compression Failure, Video Count Off

So I had a large video that I was looking to upload to YouTube. It went through the compression process until the very end of the progress bar where it stopped just short of complete. The iPhone went into auto-sleep mode and when I came back, everything was really slow, and it was no longer compressing. So I managed to pull the video off of the iPhone and delete it. A reboot of the iPhone took care of the slowness. Right now when I go to "Photos", it is completely empty with the "No Photos or Videos" graphic. However, when I go to Settings->General->About it still lists 1 video being on the iPhone.
My supposition is that the compression process kept running until the reboot, even though it was no longer listed or shown as processing. My other supposition is that it created a compressed video that never finished processing, and so I have a ghost video file hanging out on my iPhone that I don't have any access to.
While it's probably not a big-time deal and doesn't eat up a lot of space, it would be nice to verify if my supposition is right and see if I could clean it up.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Unrelated Problem. Video Count Accurate.
You're saying that when Photos tells you there are 0 videos and About say there are 1, this is somehow "accurate"? You are ASSUMING that the aborted compression left an invisible file that you need to delete. Big assumption. More likely the index file that About uses is corrupted. Did you try what I suggested?

  • Video Compression - iPod Video 30GB

Hello All.... Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, which ever you prefer.
I could not find a direct answer to my question seaching the posts, hopefully you all can help.
When a movie is purchased from iTunes it is an H.264 format with 1.5-1.7 Mbps total bitrate and 120-128kbps Audio and has a resolution of roughly 853x356 in most cases. These result in a relatively good quality video while watching full screen on my PC as well as on my MacBook Pro and great quality on my iPod Video.
In order for me to put a home movie on my ipod or my finacee's ipod i have to compress them further to 320x240 and can only go as high as 768 Kbps in order for them to even sync to the pods(as per listed iPod capabilities).
How can the movies we can buy get away with the beter quality?
Is it possible to go about using the same compression quality as Itunes does to get good full screen resolution? if it is possible how can i do it? what program is used?
    Thanks for all you help....

mine (80 GB) can play a 640x480 video at 1.5mbps h.264 format. i use videora converter.

I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!

  • Video compression on Zen Neeo

    Hello all!
I was bought a Zen Neeon 2 GB from Japan as a gift recently. I'm quite fond of it so far, no problems getting music on and off or with the radio and getting videos on and off and converting them is fine too.
BUT (yes, there's always a but) the video compression on the video converter software isn't up to much. An AVI of an hour long, full size, decent quality episode of spooks for example, runs through the converter software and whilst the picture obviously shrinks, the file doubles in size to about 900 mb, leaving no space for anything else! Does anyone know of a way to compress the files in the right format? I have tried loking for firmware / software updates but it seems the player has only been released in japan and I can't use that bit of the creative site!
Any ideas? How can I compress files for this player?

Hi! I also encountered the same problem [size="6" color="#ff0000">I wish I bought ipod instead of this JUNK!

  • I am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully,

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!

  • Compress a Video in Premiere Elements 13

    Hi,
I am very new to premiere elements 13, and have created a video and am trying to export it.  It is a 3 minute video shot with a rebel t3i in .mov format and I need to export to a file that is less than 30 mb to upload to a website.  I have imported into premiere elements and edited to get to the current length. I can't seem to get it down to under 30mb without the quality of the video being unrecognizable.  Any advice on how to go about this process to maintain as much quality while reducing the size?  What format would be best, what settings can be modified to reduce the file size and maintain quality, etc.
    Thanks!

    gehrtzm
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
What are the properties of your source file - video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
    Assuming 1920 x 1080p30
    Consider....
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    Windows Media
    with Presets = 720 x 480 16x9 29.97
then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset
Video Codec: Windows Media Video 9
    Frame Width: 1920
    Frame Height: 1080
If problem setting width and height, click on chain icon to right of these fields to remove chain.
Frame Rate: 29.97 frames per second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
Average Video Bitrate: 7000 Kbps (kilobits per second)
Please give that a try and let us know if that works for you.
    Thank you.

    - Have you tried the troubleshooting here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - You can try disabling the camer notification
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500
    - Do you have any camera, scanner or similar software installed?  That may prevent iTunes from seeing the iPod.

My videos from my iphone are horrible when I transfer them to my PC. How can I improve the video on my PC? Can I just convert the files to WMV? When the video plays the speed is off, it's half slow-motion and staggers into normal play. The clips are slightly cut as well, the clips do not roll continuously.  I'm taling about videos that are no more than 2 minutes long.  I'm frustrated and I could really use some advice-my kids basketball games is what I'm recording and I'm trying to send them to my family (they are not very tech savvy). Not it's only function but one for which it was most admirably suited, which is why I really hope someone can find a work around. I am hoping my post to the Apple feedback may prompt a useful response from Apple and I live in hope that my post here will elicit a useful response from another user. I did not miss the the text at the top of the feedback form but you presumably missed my initial text, 'someone here can explain' or my subsequent 'work around from another user'
Just in case anyone reading this has a large collection of music videos, video podcasts or iTunes U then DO NOT upgrade your iPad to iOS 5. If you are considering purchasing the iPad as a useful mobile device to experience these media organised in your iTunes please don't as you will be wasting your money. • Is it possible to compress HD video from 1.5gb to .5gb w/out losing quality

i need to compress HD video, whos files sizes range from 1.5gb-2.5gb down to .5gb-1gb, respectively. is it possible to do it without losing any noticeable quality or not. what i do is export the file as quicktime movie and get a file around 1.5gb so can i get that down to say 500mb's? i have compressor and final cut pro 7, do either of those work or do i need another program or is what i am asking simply impossible

Some quality will be lost. You are, after all, compressing the video.
The H.264 codec is darn good at being low data rate but good quality. BUT, it is a final delivery format. Meaning that it is meant as a final step...a way to compress your project into a viewable format. It isn't editable.
Just use the Quicktime 7 Streaming presets.
Unless you intend this footage for some other use. What EXACTLY are you trying to accomplish? And note, a "quicktime movie" is just a format. It's like saying "a car." What TYPE of quicktime? H.264, MPEG-4, Sorenson, ProRes, HDV? Like Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Jeep Cherokee...

  • Best compression for video with a lot of static text and graphics

Hello! I am producing an instructional DVD and am getting ready to output the files and was wondering what the best compression format would be for me to use.
About 1/3 of the clips consist of video shot in SD with very little movement (guy sitting at a desk talking to the camera.) The rest contains graphics created in After Effects and then imported back into Final Cut. The graphics are primarily text based, and don't change too often. There are some still images as well, but they are static for the most part save for some occasional panning. Oh, and the total length of all the video clips is about 70 minutes.
I would like to compress these videos so as to get the best possible quality in the text. I did a few tests, but the quality in the letters seemed a little worse than I had hoped. Is this just going to be an inevitability I have to live with, or is there a particular setting that would help me out?
Thanks for reading this; any help would be greatly appreciated!
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1.25 GB DDR SDRAM

You know--I really have no idea why I didn't do it that way. I exported uncompressed files from After Effects and then imported them into FCP; some of the files are huuuge, like 60 GB+
I think in the next version of this I will probably just edit in FCP then import it into AE, and then export from there. As it stands though, I've sort of made some changes and done stuff in FCP after importing the clips, so I'd like to just export using Compressor.
So are you saying it's better to export uncompressed from FCP and then import that into Compressor and go from there? I've been just selecting the 'Export Using Compressor' option in FCP and going from there...
    Thanks!

  • Using BlackMagic Intensity Pro Video Compression card with FCP in a MacPro

BlackMagic is offering the Intensity Pro card that they claim is enhancing the quality of video compression for better results than software driven compression, even with Standard DV in addition to HDV, and at a surprisingly cheap cost (less than $300).
    http://www.h-digital.com.au/hardware/hardwareview.asp?id=152
As someone used such hardware driven compression card in a MacPro ?
Does-it really help making better quality DVDs?
If not are there better hardware driven compression card?

7-8 years ago, we said that analog video was at the low end and DV was at the high end.
Uh, DV was NEVER on the high end. Digibeta and Beta were analog, and were HIGHER end than DV. Just because it was digital doesn't mean it was better. DV is compressed 5:1 and has 4:1:1 color sampling. Beta was 4:2:2 and better than DV...and Digibeta was and still is the high end SD format. DVCPRO 50 a close second. No...DV came in on the low end...like HDV comes in on the low end of the HD spectrum.
If this Intensity card does not help to get better compression than software driven compression, is there another card which can do so ?
Well, I answered this, but you must have missed my answer, so I will bold it for you: *THERE IS NO CARD OUT THERE FOR THE MAC THAT WILL AID IN DVD COMPRESSION.* I don't know about the PC side, so I make the statement to include MAC only. There are several hardware solutions for encoding DVDs that distributors use when making the theatrical DVDs like OCEANS 13...but those are separate hardware encoders. And no, again, those encoders are not available on a Mac.
What I mean at the end is to find ways to have higher quality DVDs than when using software such as Compressor. Do you follow me ?
I follow you....you aren't following me. Since I am an editor and not a distributor, I don't know what those solutions are. They exist outside of the editing world, so you have to GOOGLE this or look elsewhere. Needless to say, the Intensity does not aid in this. No capture card does. That is not what they are designed for. They are designed to capture non-firewire formats and to output to non-firewire formats...not to aid in DVD compression.

  • I uploaded a video from a flashdrive to my Mac and it compressed the video to lower quality and shrunk it in size. How do I get it to the original size?

I uploaded a video from a flashdrive to my Mac and it compressed the video to lower quality and shrunk it in size. How do I get it to the original size?

It changed the Aspect ratio of the video, as if it had been shot on a phone instead of a camera. When first looking at the footage it was in landscape aspect but when I transfered it to a memory unit to put on a different computer it uploaded it in a different ratio

  • Possible video card failure?

    Screenshot:
    http://users.vianet.ca/dtrudel/example1.jpg
I've started having problems with playing 3D video games, like the system totally freezing up and I'd have to reboot, or I'd get weird graphic things happening like in the picture above. At first, this just happened when playing games, but now it just happened when I was using safari. The pixels and weird lines don't go away until I reboot. Also, my system has completely locked up on me a few times over the last couple of days...when I wasn't playing any games...I was just checking my mail, or accessing a drop-down menu from the menu bar. When it freezes, I can't force quit...the system is totally unresponsive and I have to use the power button.
I've gone through most of the standard troubleshooting steps:
    Verified and Repaired Permissions
    Ran TechTool Deluxe
    Ran the Apple Hardware Test
    Ran OnyX
    Deleted Preferences
I also created a new user for testing as advised by an Apple Care Rep and did a Clean Install of OS X
The tests (TechTool Deluxe and Apple Hardware Test) indicate that everything is supposedly fine.
When my system crashes, I often see this line (or something similar) in the logs:
Nov 24 20:57:59 localhost kernel: ATIRadeon::submit_buffer: Overflowed block waiting for FIFO space. Have 5, need 6. RBBM_STATUS 0x8009c111. VAPCNTLSTATUS 0x00000002
Has anyone had this experience, and can anyone confirm if this is indicative of a video card failure? My understanding is that the video card on the eMac is part of the logic board. The Apple Rep said the last thing I can try before taking it to a service center would be to erase everything and reformat. I really don't want to do that unless there is really some reason to believe that it might actually solve the problem. I mean, I'd have to spend several hours reinstalling everything, etc.
    emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.25 GHZ, 512 RAM, ATI Radeon 9200

the video card was bad, needed to have the logic board replaced

  • Video Compressed using Compressor Won't Play

I create a video podcast about canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.  I compress my videos for the AppleTV and for the iPod using the Compressor app.  I use the standard presets in compressor for these devices.
I just got an AppleTV2 and got it all set up on my TV.  The first day everything worked great including the videos I create.  Today however when I go to play one of the videos, the preview picture shows up in the AppleTV menu, and when I select it to play the video loads up.  I can see the progress bar moving along until it is fully loaded.  After just a little bit of the buffer it switch to the icon showing that it is playing and that I am able to pause it if I would like, but the video never plays.  I am able to skip ahead through the video, and it shows the appropriate picture in that part of the video, but it never plays the video.  Other videos play just fine that were compressed with a different compressor software, and they did play fine the first day I plugged it in.
The videos play just fine in iTunes on the machine that is hosting them.
    Any ideas?

I just turned the sleep to never in settings, and reset the device by holding down the menu and down arrow until the light on the fornt of the box flashed.  It reset itself.  I went through the home sharing setup again.  Now the vdieos are working agian.  Odd.  I wonder if the AppleTv gong to sleep is the issue.  I'll post back later if thats the case. For now though, this is resolved.

  • Adjust video compression within iWeb?

Is there any way to adjust the QT video compression when posting movies via iWeb? Currently, my wife opens iWeb, and then selects movies from within the media pane (specifically, the iPhoto library). These have not been compressed in iPhoto, and as she's not very techie, I don't want her to have to go through that hassle.
It seems strange that, from within iWeb, there is no video settings for compression. Right now, a 30 second video can be 50 MB or more. That is ridiculous.
Any thoughts on how to compress without adding a bunch of complicated steps?

Yes, it's very ridiculous that an application for creating webpages has no features for compressing video.
And the movies in iPhoto are usually the raw material that comes out of a camera. They have to be edited too.
Perhaps an application for editing movies does what you want. iMovie comes to mind. What a burden.
