  • Adobe Connect Plug-in failure: either video och shared screens / documents

    Hi
I'm Sven-Erik Tiberg imeet admin at Lulea Univ. of Technology.
We have 7 studios for confernaces and distance education all running Adobe Connect and other conferance systems.
Each studio has a dedicated computer running Adobe Connect where video and sound are routed trugh a programable Mutlimedia switch.
    That's the big picture.
Connect are running perfect in 6 studios but we got challanges in the high end studio where all videos streams are in HDSI format 1250 - 750 / 24 bit.
We can either broadcast connect-video by uninstalling the Adobe Connect add-on OR share whiteboard / computer screens / documents by installing the add-in.
Have tried with vers. 9 add-in w/o any improvements.
We have made some test applications using flash to display the video and as you guess the video are displayed with great satisfaction.
Are there any add-in out there / in test that can help us.
PS. all 7 studios are booked appr. 70% of day and evening time so we are in a bit of hurry getting also this studio running in full production.
    Greetings.
    Sven-Erik Tiberg

Some clarifications, the capture card we uses are Datapath VisionRGB E1 and E2 using DVI capture.
    http://www.datapath.co.uk/visionrgbE1.html
The source is from a Tandberg Camera using 1280x720P@ 50 Hz.
The video is routed trough a HDSDI router trough a HDSDI to HDMI converter (AJA Hi5 3G).
    http://www.aja.com/products/converters/converters-hd-hi53g.php
The capture card supports direct show capture and works well on other video tools; Windows Movie Maker, Skype, etc. and also with Flash based capture tools such as Tokbox and normal Flash video capture (Tested using Actionscript 3)
    Camera = Camera.getCamera()
    Video = new Video()
So so long everything is fine, but in Adobe Connect we have some problems!
It captures video in Adobe Connect when the plugin is not installed, but when the plugin is installed, just an icon and the plugin tells that video is broadcasted, but no video is shown or broadcasted to other Connect users!
When we uninstall the Add-in the video works as it should again, but without the plugin no screen sharing and we want both!
What is the difference with the video capture using the normal Connect program and the Connect Add-in.
Tested with both the latest 7 Add-in as well as the Adobe Connect 8 add-ins
Any one seen this problem before?
Seems like this has been an issue before:

    Hi,
There are two Articles as Apple Calls them now.
This one was written for iChat 2 (Panther) and updated for iChat 3 (Tiger) when Jabber was added
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507
It lists all the ports iChat 3 uses for AIM, Jabber, Bonjour and A/V chats.
This one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2282 Lists the changes regarding the A/V stuff
So what we have is iChat Logging into AIM on port 5190 using TCP as default.
This port is used on the UDP Protocol to Send files or pic (Includes Pics in Chats) and Direct IMs (Same but without pics or files)
Bonjour iChat requires that ports 5297, 5298 and 5353 are open to the UDP Protocol and port 5298 also needs to be open to the TCP Protocol.
Jabber uses three ports all on TCP 5220, 5222, 5223
This is for Login and sending IMs and files
    iChat 3 A/V Chats use 22 ports
5678 on UDP for the Visible Invite
5060 on UDP for the SIP (Behind the scenes connection/invite process)
4 of 16384-16403 in a one to one chat.
iChat 4 reduces this to 11 ports.
    5678 for Visible invite
    16402 for the SIP bit
Staying with just one port from 16393-16402 starting at the top as first choice.
Undocumented in iChat 4 is the Screen Sharing port.
Testing has revealed this to a random port. (There is also an Audio chat along side this Screen Share).
The Mac Firewall in Leopard Certificates Apps to allow them through the Firewall so you don't have to enter ports there.
Set of pics for iChat 3 in Tiger Firewall
Modems that route and routers can have several means or methods of opening the ports.
Port Forwarding will need all 29 (or 19 ) ports opened and pointed in most cases to One IP (Computer)
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) hands control to the App to open ports (much like the Leopard firewall)
Some Devices can have Port Triggering as well
This allows multiple computers but needs some set up for iChat to set the port 5678 as the Listening ports to open all the other A/V ports.

  • File share, video chat, or screen sharing isn't working.

This past month I have realized that file sharing or video chat is not working. Every time I try to use file share it says that it is "calculating time" then after a few minutes says no response from my buddy. But for some reason I am able to send files, I just cannot receive them. Neither has video chat, or screen sharing been working lately, too.

    Hi Max,
Like Matt Clifton who answered you in the other thread I do not use email for anything I would want to be secure.
I do have certificates from a couple of people who have used vetting sites about who is sending them email (even though they emailed me first).
The Mail Forum is Leopard may have something on newer developments in security related issues with Mail. Whether they can be transposed to and Earlier OS I would not know as Mail is not really my area.
As several Governments has expressed the idea that they want this sort of Access to prevent terrorism I am not sure if any form of internet contact is going to be that secure.
Having said that iChat has problems if DoS or SPI filters are in place but seem more influenced by the amount of data sent to you which DoS interprets as an Attack on the threshold basis and SPI just does not seem able to cope with high volume streams, effectively making that Threshold based in it's resultant action.
On the flip side iChat is Peer-to-Peer in Direct Chats (Where Files and Pics in chats are sent) and in Audio Only and Video chats.
In Leopard (iChat 4) the Video Window can be used as th control point to Send as either iChat Theatre or File Sending.
I have no idea what is out there for Mail or alternative apps.

  • IChat Error (Video, Audio, and Screen Sharing)

I received a Black Macbook for Christmas, and have not had any problems with it until today. Yesterday I installed 2GB of Kingston RAM that I ordered online from Newegg, and today I cannot do anything in iChat besides chat. Whenever I attempt to start an audio chat, video chat, or screen sharing, I recieve an error.
"There was a communication error during your chat."
"______ cancelled the connection. You can send details about this problem to Apple to help improve future versions of iChat"
I've tried it with 3 different people and it gives me the same error.
Last week I was video chatting and screen sharing fine with the same people.
I don't see how it would affect it but is there any chance it was caused by the RAM? Other than that I have had no problems at all. :\
    Thanks in advance. ^_^

    I fixed the problem. ^_^
If anyone else has this problem, it might be caused by internet sharing. I had internet sharing setup with my 360, as soon as I cut that off it worked fine.

  • How can I tell that AutoQOS config is adequate on a video conference switch

I have a Tandberg video conference bridge and gateway connected to a 3750 switch. The audio is marked EF and the video CS3. I configured AutoQos on the switch and trust DSCP on the ports. When we reach a large video conference of 25 or more attendies, we begin to have problems. The Tandberg starts to ratchet some of the video streams down, some to below 180kps, and the conference quality begins to suffer.
The only change to the default AutoQOS config I've made is changing the "mls qos trust dscp" on the uplinks, adding a QOS policy on the Tandberg ports to mark the video with CS3 and trust the audio DSCP (Tandberg had a bug that didn't mark the video packets) and adding
    queue-set 2
    priority-queue out
    to the uplinks.
Will the default AutoQOS queue/buffer/SRR share and shape commands be adequate for 25 to 30 simultaneous video streams? We allow about 500k per stream.
I read through the 3750 QOS guide, but am a bit confused with the explanations of the queuing and SRR workings. I know that CS3 is mapped to COS-3, but don't know which queue it goes in and whether or not it gets shaped/disgarded when too much video is present.
Once I am sure that the 3750 QOS is working OK, and not causing problems with our large conference calls, then I'll expand my troubleshooting to the rest of the network.
I've attached a text file with the 3750 config, and 'show mls qos int statistics' that show the packets are being marked.

I mistyped in my first post. I do indeed mark the video as AF41 (Cos4). It is the call control that I mark CS3 with the policy map to get around the old Tandberg bug that doesn't mark the call control.
So do you think the queue 3, where Cos4 goes to, is big enough to handle 30 video streams of 480k? If my calculation is correct that would be 14.4mbps of video on a 100mbps port.
    With this config.....
    srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
    srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0
...is it telling me that queues 1 & 2 get 10% bw, queue 3 gets 60% and queue 4 gets 20% bw and is shared? If that is correct than 60% is more than enough for 14.4mbps of video.
What happens if too much video overruns the queue?

  • How to return to video chat from screen share mode?

Is there an easy way to leave screen share mode and return to the video chat without having to stop iChat and start a new Video conference?

    Hi,
    No.
    You have the method.

  • Sharing screens - premium account ?

    Hi,
I dont really want to buy a premium account for sharing screens with multiple people. I am using that not that often Why cant I pay it on the go per session ???
Are you planning to implement this ?
    Chris.

Hi, Chris_Blair, and welcome to the Community,
Screen share between mulitple people is a Premium subscription benefit as sharing a screen is considered a video feed, and multiple video feeds require a Premium subscription regardless of whether you are referring to the video feeds as a video call or screen share.  Skype has not announced any plans to make paying for this feature  available via Skype Credit only.
Remember this: only one person participating in the call where three (or more) video feeds occur must be a Skype Premium subscriber.
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • Bluetooth button missing from iChat Video Conference window

I normally use a bluetooth headset when in an iChat video conference. Tiger has a button on the bottom edge of the video screen to select or deselect the bluetooth headset. This button is missing in Leopard forcing you to go into the preferences panel and select the device there.
Did I miss an option somewhere?
    Mike

    Hi,
I have not heard of this in iChat 3.
As no-one else has answered I would guess it is a feature many others are unaware of.

  • My iChat video conference seems to be malfunctioning.

Every time I want to send a picture to the video conference, all I see is a black screen. Who ever is on the video chat with me also sees this black screen instead of the picture. I've tried to send differnet pictures, restarting iChat, restarting my Mac, and searched all over the internet for help but nothing seems to work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi,
Mountain Lion has Messages  (An iChat+ app)
It changes the name as it add the ability to send iMessages to the stable that is iChat.
Effectively it will be a new app and this stort of Upgrade is likely to sort out some issues.
I am suggesting a change to the Bandwidth as it can "nudge" the app in to writing to the releveant .plist (stored Preferences) without major intervention.
The Same with using the Acivity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) to see if the URLFileTransferAgent is showing up when it should not.
This shows up when text chats Files get "Stuck" and are listed as "Waiting" in the File Transfer Window.
The other possibility is that the iChat Theatre process that Shares the file as a Video Feed substitute is not doing it's thing.
However until we can exclude one issue it is pointless trying to address another.
If you have a Time Machine Back up then you could use that to Reinstall iChat from a time when you know it was working.
    Open the Applications Folder
Start up Time Machine so that it looks at the "History" of the Applications Folder.
Use the Arrows to go back in time.
Highlight the iChat App and use the Restore Button.
This will replace the "Current" version with an "Older" version.
This may work if the issue is with part of the App.
However Video feed is dealt with elsewhere.  (Does Photo Booth work for instance ?)

  • IChat Video Conference Quality?

    Hello,
I am thinking about purchasing a Macbook and using it for one-on-one video conferencing, but would like to know if the webcam video quality is really as good as it is in the store demo. That is, when you video conference with others (Mac and PC), is the video you receive sharp, or is it blocky (more like big pixels) and response slow even with a cable modem? I am asking because we also have a new Sony Vaio and the webcam quality is pretty poor with video conferencing using AIM, Sightspeed, and Windows Live Messenger. While at the Apple store the salesperson was not able to connect to anyone outside of the store, so I was not able to gauge the quality. Also, are you able to make the video window larger? (it seems so small)
    Thanks for any feedback…
      Windows XP Pro

The primary determinant of iChat video conferencing quality is the upstream Internet connection speed on both ends of the call.
But for a given connection speed such as yours (whatever it is), I'd say that Mac to Mac iChat video conferencing would be clearly better than PC video conferencing on AIM, SightSpeed, or Windows Live Messenger. It's not going to be as good as what you saw in the Apple Store unless you have an upstream connection speed of 1500 Kbps or greater.
I have both Macs and PCs, but I always choose to use iChat Mac to Mac video conferencing whenever possible. As a Mac alternative to iChat, I prefer Skype for Mac with video and recommend it for Mac users who need to video-connect with PC users.
Both iChat and Skype offer up to full-screen video.

  • Messages multi person video conference broken in ML

For several years four of us have met in a daily 4-way one hour video conference using iChat and then later the Messages beta.  While it has not been perfect it has always been a useable conference.  Immediately upon installing Mountain Lion we found that the video conference would be unuseable when the third person was added to the conference.
The normal configuration is that the conference host's image is at the bottom center of the conference screen with the other three conference members in larger windows immediately above the host in a horizontal string of three images.  After installing ML all four of us experince complete distortion of the images with then being strung in vertical windows that contain one or all of the conference participants in each of two of three vertical windows.  Not only are there mutiple occurrances of each participant but the images themselves have distorted aspect ratios.
The problem appears only on the machines that have been upgraded to Mountain Lion.  If one of the confree's uses Lion, rather than ML, then that machine never receives distorted images even while others on the conference using ML are receiving distorted images.
The machines that we use do not seem related to the problem rather Mountain Lion appears to be the key.  The machines used by the group are:
1- Mid 2012 MacBook AIR, 1 - Mid 2011 MacBook Air, 2- Late 2009 Mac minis, 1- 2008 Aluminum MacBook, 1-2008 Aluminum iMac and 1 late 2007 plastic iMac (Lion only on this machine).
It would be nice if any other 3-4 person Massages video conference users would verify this video problem under Mountain Lion.  Please respond back here to see if it is a widespread issue.
    Mike

sorry but i am totally confused.
i just spent the last 4 hours trying to get multi video chat to work with Messages in 10.8.2 and so far nothing works.  How are you doing this?
For one, Facetime seems to be completely void of any multi video functionality.
Now comes the confusing parts, if I enter a friends' gmail acct to start a video chat via Jabber it automatically defaults to iMessage which opens then Facetime.  so i then tried to call them using a different gmail acct which wasn't associated with iMessage and... yes we were able to start a video chat.
Now at the bottom of the video window is a little "+" icon which only seems to work if i add people before anyone answers.  after the first person answers i am unable to add anyone.  is this normal?
furthermore when i try to chat with multiple people via jabber it tells me "This server does not support group chats".  what?!
has anyone been able to add multiple jabber buddies to a text chat in Messages?

  • Google Hangouts Crashes While Sharing Screens in WebEx

I use Google Hangouts to make phone calls from my laptop. Recently, an update to WebEx causes Hangouts to crash while dialed into the conference line when anyone shares their screen. This effectively means that I cannot use Hangouts to dial into the audio conference while using WebEx.
There is a bug for this issue at https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCut16304/, but the status is marked as "Terminated" and there are no workarounds provided. Is there anything that can be done to keep Hangouts from crashing while on a call and sharing screens over WebEx?

    Hi Thomas,
If the issue is reproducible every time on your end, I advise you to call into WebEx Support 1.866.229.3239 and share with them your issue. This bug is closed as it wasn't reproducible, so maybe with your issue being reproducible they may be able to figure out what is causing it.
    I hope this will help.

  • Video conference gets corrupted about 2 minutes in.  iChat 3 and 4 both.

I've been experiencing this with my mom and we can't figure out what the trick is.
She can video conference with my sister for a long time and never run into this issue.
I can video conference with anyone else for a long time and never run into this issue.
It only happens between my mom and I when we talk. After about a minute or two her video goes bad and it's hard to continue talking. She says my video is fine, and I can hear her, though the audio cuts in and out too.
I took a screen shot of what it looks like and put it on my site here:
    http://www.briancovalt.com/scary.jpg
Does anyone have an idea of what's happening. She has a 2 year old iBook (I think 1.07Ghz G4). I'm using both a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo (built in iSight) and a Quad-Core G5 (iSight attached on top) - the problem happens with both machines.
We just upgraded her router to the newest Airport basestation. She's got a super quick cable connection.
I'm using a Linksys router with a fast DSL connection at home (opened up my ports for iChat), and at work I'm connected to our blazing fast network.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Brian,.

wow, thanks for the answer. It did it.
At first I thought you said to keep the bandwidth at no limit, so I just made the first change and we still experienced the problem. Then I re-read your suggestion and saw that you said to limit it at 500. After doing that we were able to chat without a problem.
Do you mind explaining that though? It doesn't make sense to me. I thought that if the video was getting corrupted it'd be because there wasn't enough bandwidth, and the last thing I'd think to do is to cap it.
Thanks again for the answer, it saved us from total confusion.
    Brian.,
