Video conference w/ multiple people in linux

why don't you first of all update the linux skype client to be similar to the windows version and then when you do that you'll hopefully fix linux multiple people video conferencing. Please and thank you. webRTC is just around the corner so hopefully i won't have to use your crappy propritary OS.
NOTE: your own readme provided in the generic linux pacakge has links in it which don't even resolve.

Hosting a multiperson video conference
iChat AV for Mac OS X v10.4 supports video chatting with up to three buddies at once. To do this, one buddy "hosts" the video conference, and the others participate. Everyone in the video conference sees and hears the other participants.
You can invite three people to a conference at once, or let participants join and leave as the conference goes along.
To see if your buddy supports multiperson video conferencing, check the icon next to your buddy's picture. If the icon is multiple videocamera icons, you can invite your buddy to a multiperson video conference.
If the icon is multiple audio icons, you can invite your buddy to participate in the video conference using audio only. Your buddy joins the conference and is represented by their buddy icon and a sound-level meter, so you can tell when that buddy is talking.
To start a multiperson video conference:
Select the buddies in your Buddy List you want to invite to the video conference. Press and hold the Command key to select more than one buddy. Click the videocamera button at the bottom of your Buddy List.
You can invite three people to a conference at once, or invite participants as the conference goes along.
To host a multiperson video conference, you need:
An iMac G5, Power Mac G5, or fast dual Power Mac G4 (Any computer with a G5 processor or dual G4 processors that are each 1GHz or faster)

To see which processors are in your computer, choose Apple > About This Mac. The dialog displays the number of processors, their type, and their speed.

Multiple iChat Video Conference Windows?

Just like many people I am getting ready to participate in my fantasy football draft and we have a few people that will need to be at the draft remotely. We are planning on using iChat to video conference with the people who have intel based iMacs running Leopard.
Is there a way to have multiple one-on-one iChat video conferences open at the same time instead of a 3-way conference all together? Meaning I want to be able to have an open one-on-one connection with one person but have another one-on-one video connection separately so I can mute one video connection but not the other.
I guess a different question would be can you have one 3-way video conference but only mute your conversation to one of the participants but not the other?

Cant see others in video conference

When i join a video conference with more than once person i cant see anybody else but myself.
When i start a video conference and add people one by one...the first person can see everybody...but the 2nd and 3rd cant see anybody else.
whats going on????

It should be set to match your download speed or a max of 1.5meg

Please help with video conference

hi every one,
i have gone to the mac store fifth avenue and spoke to a mac genius, but they werent able to help me.... hope you can..
so basically, my Ichat 3.5 (last version) workd great, i can make video conferences between 2 people with no problems but as soon as i try to make that a 3 way conversation it always gives me a communication error, or says that the third person did not resond....
lets make this complicated: there are 3 people: 1)me 2)cousin) 3)friend, and we all have the same computer with all the updates...
if 1)me tries to call 2)cousin or 3)friend so a 2way conversation everything works just fine, but if i invite the third person #2 and #3 at the same time it always says that 1 of the two did not respond....
probably there is a solution out there, but i was not able to find it....
PS... the mac store told me it could be the firewall but those were turned off on all computers....
help is appreciated,

No video conference!!!

I've been reading about the routers and I use the router linksys WRT54GS, but I don't understand anything about router's configuration!!! I guess the router is what make's me unable to have a video conference with other people!!
Could someone help me?

Hi No Video Conference,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Log on to the Linksys.
This will mean typing 192.168.1.1 into a web browser.
It will then ask you for the User ID and password in the drop down.
This is admin in lower case for both as default.
Then go to the Admistration screen.
Enable the UPnP in this screen.
You should now be good to go.
It does presume that the Mac firewall is Off or has the ports set there.
It also presumes that your modem does not route as well.

How do i host one way multiperson video conference?

My friend was able to host a video conference with me and him on video, and another person through audio; this was on his g4. I am on a 2.33 ghz Macbook Pro, and I want to host a video conference with two people on audio. Is that possible? I've tried a slew of combinations, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Is it feasable? Thanks.

I think that it was an extremely lucky strike to realise 2way video in combination with a friend who had a mic (audio only) next to his pict. What might have happened that it actually was a 3way video chat and due to bandwidth drop turned out to effectively be a 2AV one only Audio.
So, if you have a multi layered camera in your list, you can video chat with more than one other camera user, and you audio chat with other multi layered mics up to 10 users. But you can't do mixed invitations between them.
How does iChat determine if you are capable of joining or hosting a multiperson chat?
When iChat is opened, it performs a series of tests to determine if multi-person chats are supported with available bandwidth.
iChat also checks the file "com.apple.ichat.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences/ to detemine if defaut values have been set for bwdup and bwddown. It checks to see if the IP address stored in bwdid is the same as the current IP address of the computer, or if the settings are older than three days.
If any of these conditions are not met, iChat performs a .Mac bandwidth detection test to see if .Mac network bandwidth is fast enough to support a multi-way connection.
If the test succeeds, then multi-way chat is enabled.

Is it possible to create a videochat with multiple people in iChat? Like a video-conference... I know it works with Skype, but skype dosen't work that well after Microsoft bought it...

Actually Skype was reported as having issues before Microsoft bought it.
(version 5 caused lots of people problems).
iChat can Video chat between you and 3 other people (Or you and 9 others in an Audio Only chat).
You have to have at least an internet connection with 384kbps Upload to be able to do this.
This is the lowest speed at which you can Host the chat (Start).
Below this you can sometimes join a Video Chat (Be invited by someone else).
Processor speed plays a party in all of this.
Several ways to start.
Click one Buddy's Video icon
Add another by clicking their Video icon.
Or highlight several Buddies (CMD click allows separated buddies where and Shift Click highlights those in between as well)
Click either one of those Buddies' Video icon or use the one at the Bottom of the Buddy list
All Buddies must be using iChat (AIM on a PC cannot Multiple chat)
All Buddies must be either Logged in to AIM or be Jabber Based Names (Includes GoogleTalk)
In iChat 6 you can also do this is you have a Yahoo LIst and iChat using Yahoo Buddies.
To be clear if you have a name that Logs in to AIM you cannot Add Jabber or Google Buddies to the Chat (Same for Yahoo)
Or if you are using a Googletalk name you can only Invite people that are assed to that List (Other Google Buddies or Jabber Buddies).
Same for Yahoo lists and Buddies (Can't invite AIM or Jabber Buddies)

does video chat on the new Messager on Mac allow screen share or multiple people?
i noticed they said that facetime will basically be taking over video calls on the mac and that Messager will take over ichat, but i'm worried they're going to drop all the nice features they had on ichat, like being able to share screens while video chatting with someone. or being able to chat with 2 people at once on a video call.
has anyone downloaded the beta of this yet and tried it out? i'm very curious

You can start a Video chat with one Buddy and then chose Screen Share and providing you and the Buddy are using UPnP to open ports it will instantly convert to a Screen Share.
A Screen Share is only 1-1 and is technically an Audio Chat +
The Plus bit is an VNC connection alongside the Audio Chat.
This VNC connection uses a random port - hence the need to use UPnP to open the ports in the router (Or Port Mapping Protocol) in Apple Base Station.
There used to be Add-ons that allowed the Desktop as Video Feed which would have been a sort of Screen Share but none of these have been updated for Lion.
An Example is iUSBCam (ShowMacster was another - My link no longer works)
CamCamX maybe a possibility if it works in Lion (It does say it neess iUSBCam for iChat)

Multiple video conference -- blurry picture

I just got a new MacBook Pro, and am testing iChat AV. In the one-to-one mode, the incoming picture is way sharper than my old Mac. However, when I go to a multiple video conference, using a couple of test sites as the incoming pictures, both incoming feeds are blurry. Incoming audio is fine for both. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. In my office, we three all have MacBook Pros and are experiencing the same problem. We changed the QuickTime streaming speed and we set the bandwidth limit to NONE but are still seeing blurry images. The funny thing is that it works well, with a sharp image, when we are only two chatting. But add the third and both become blurry (though my picture of myself is still sharp). Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Messages multi person video conference broken in ML

For several years four of us have met in a daily 4-way one hour video conference using iChat and then later the Messages beta. While it has not been perfect it has always been a useable conference. Immediately upon installing Mountain Lion we found that the video conference would be unuseable when the third person was added to the conference.
The normal configuration is that the conference host's image is at the bottom center of the conference screen with the other three conference members in larger windows immediately above the host in a horizontal string of three images. After installing ML all four of us experince complete distortion of the images with then being strung in vertical windows that contain one or all of the conference participants in each of two of three vertical windows. Not only are there mutiple occurrances of each participant but the images themselves have distorted aspect ratios.
The problem appears only on the machines that have been upgraded to Mountain Lion. If one of the confree's uses Lion, rather than ML, then that machine never receives distorted images even while others on the conference using ML are receiving distorted images.
The machines that we use do not seem related to the problem rather Mountain Lion appears to be the key. The machines used by the group are:
1- Mid 2012 MacBook AIR, 1 - Mid 2011 MacBook Air, 2- Late 2009 Mac minis, 1- 2008 Aluminum MacBook, 1-2008 Aluminum iMac and 1 late 2007 plastic iMac (Lion only on this machine).
It would be nice if any other 3-4 person Massages video conference users would verify this video problem under Mountain Lion. Please respond back here to see if it is a widespread issue.

sorry but i am totally confused.
i just spent the last 4 hours trying to get multi video chat to work with Messages in 10.8.2 and so far nothing works. How are you doing this?
For one, Facetime seems to be completely void of any multi video functionality.
Now comes the confusing parts, if I enter a friends' gmail acct to start a video chat via Jabber it automatically defaults to iMessage which opens then Facetime. so i then tried to call them using a different gmail acct which wasn't associated with iMessage and... yes we were able to start a video chat.
Now at the bottom of the video window is a little "+" icon which only seems to work if i add people before anyone answers. after the first person answers i am unable to add anyone. is this normal?
furthermore when i try to chat with multiple people via jabber it tells me "This server does not support group chats". what?!
has anyone been able to add multiple jabber buddies to a text chat in Messages?

different than the FMS host. Your FMS host will give you the
information to use in the video player (the server name/application
name, etc).
