Video connectors used in London

I am hoping someone from across the pond can help me. I am going to be in London in a few weeks giving a presentation. I have a MacBook Pro with a Mini DVI connector. I purchased a Mini DVI to VGA connector. I assume the video connection used by projectors for computers in the UK have this same VGA connection. Am I correct? (I have already made arrangements for power adapters). Thanks for any advise. ( I did the whole presentation on keynote and it is not translating well to Powerpoint. I just want to bring my computer and run it off there as opposed to redoing the presentation)

Don't worry about the power adapter. Your MacBook Pro is ALREADY equipped to run on any voltage from 100V to 240V. What you need to worry about is the plug itself. That is, the prongs that fit into the socket. This is cheap and easily bought for several bucks from Radio Shack.
As for monitors in the UK, the video cables are going to be exactly what you have in the USA--typically either DVI or VGA. You should ask the place where you will be doing presentations to see what kind of video cable they use. This is independent of it being UK or not UK. Only the voltage is dependent on the country and in this case all Apple laptops can run on any internationally used voltage.

  • Bypass failed PAV (power analog video) to use external monitor?

"Patient" is a 7+ year old iMac DV 400 (CRT; slot-loading). It fails to start up. The LED in the power button lights briefly, it sounds as if the hard drive starts to spin up, and small patches of light appear in the upper and lower corners of the right side of the screen. Prior to this status, the display had been reduced in brightness for a couple of months. The day before it died, the image on the screen started pulsing at the sides and horizontal streaks flashed across the upper third of the image. I shut the machine down for half an hour then restarted and it was back to normal. The next day, the pulsing and lines returned; shut down and tried to restart in 1.5 hours, but no go (symptoms above).
I replaced the 3.6V lithium battery and reset the PMU/CUDA. No change. I am told that the symptoms are characteristic of a failed PAV board. I read in another thread here ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3110595&#3110595 ) that it may be possible to bypass the failed PAV and connect an internal cable (via an adapter) display (i.e., not using the existing extrnal VGA port). Here is a quote from the above thread (12th reply; "However, for those of us with tray-loaders iMacs that have failed video boards, you can simply disconnect the internal video connector. This connector is essentially a "VGA" cable inside the iMac case, but it uses the old-style Apple video connector. It is a simple matter to buy an Apple-to-VGA adapter and connect it to the internal video output and connect that to a VGA cable leading to an external monitor".
Is this possible with a slot-loading iMac? If so can someone please point me to instructions for doing so (ideally with photos/illustrations), or explain how to do it.
I will be very greatful for any help getting this iMac running again.

interface is VGA. i have tried changing the H. Position on the monitor to "slide it back" but even when it's completely at 100% on one side i gain back half of the black area. i don't know what else i can change on the monitor that would help me out.

  • IMac external monitor video connector, huh?

Apparently, there are at least FOUR different types of video connectors in use these days.
WHICH one is used for External video on the iMac (tiny, rectangular) and is it analogue or digital?

Mini-DVI to VGA to connect to a computer monitor with a 15-pin VGA connector (also on some modern TVs).
Mini DVI to Video to connect to a television using composite video (RCA jack) or s-video (mini-DIN).
Mini DVI to DVI to connect to a monitor having a DVI connector.

  • IPod craddle with s-video connectors

    Hi,
I have seen an IPod craddle which had a s-video connector to it. Does that mean that I could connect the audio out to my amp and the S-video on my TV and then be able to see the ipod display on my TV? If so, can I then program a logitech remote to control the IPod and have a remote-controllable jukebox?
Thank you very much for your tips

I don't think that the iPod will display the menu etc on your tv screen. The use of the S-Video port is to display photos from the iPod on the tv.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. : )

I will appreciate a brief reply how to fix this problem.

    This is possible
because you will get streams for both data in and out...
but the problem is that the j2me player is not always streaming supported.
Since your server is mobile for streaming you have to implement a streaming server on ur server mobile.
but you can play the whole video chunk by chunk... in many fashion...

  • DVI to Video Adapter: Using S-video vs. RCA output to TV

I just purchased a DVI to Video Adapter for my MacBook Pro 15". I'd like to display iPhoto slide shows on my TV. Will there be a difference in picture quality on the TV if I output from the Mac (thru the DVI to Video Adapter) using an RCA cable versus an S-video cable?

S-Video is the better of the two interfaces. Neither is very good when compared with a computer screen, which will have much higher resolution. I doubt you will notice much difference between S-Video and RCA Video but if you have the choice you might as well go S-Video.

  • Is there a way we can edit and improve existing youtube videos by using premiere pro? Just simple changes like having professional looking opening and closing credits?

Is there a way we can edit and improve existing youtube videos by using premiere pro? Just simple changes like having professional looking opening and closing credits?

Assuming you do not have access to the "original" video/project and the YouTube video is the only copy, there is a method. Try "YouTube Downloader" which is a free software that allows you to download clips from YouTube as .mp4 files. You can then edit with Premiere, and re-encode again for upload to YouTube. Just keep in mind that you are re-compressing the video so there will be some quality loss. The better the quality of the original, the better the copy will hold up.

  • I want to make a video clip using two still pictures, placing side by side.  I am able to make with only one at a time.

I want to make a video clip using two still pictures, placing side by side.  I am able to make with only one at a time.  Also, I am able to move the picture using Transform.  But unsuccessfull in making with two stills in same clip.  Thank you for reply.

If you want a Picture in Picture effect, stack one still on top of the other with a connect edit. Use Transform to scale and reposition the top image.

  • FCPX: In Event Library: how to know if a video was used in the timeline of Final Cut Pro X?

In Event Library: how to know if a video was used in the timeline of Final Cut Pro X?
An example: In Premiere Pro, the whole video is added to the timeline identified as used in their video library. Facilitating our work on a big project, not to repeat videos. You can do this in FCPX?

The way it works in FCP:
Working from the Timeline Index, you can see lists of all clips in the sequence and their location in the timeline.
You can also do a search (kevn) to narrow the results.

  • Wrong Video Clips Used in Export; Fine in Canvas

I'm new to Final Cut as a student so I apologize in advance if I did something rather obvious.
My project is perfectly in sync on the canvas and when I export to a Quicktime file, the wrong portions of video are used.
My captured tape video and sound were greatly out of sync for most clips so I went through on each cut and manually added an audio track from where it would sync up and muted the audio tracks for the video I was syncing it up to. Everything matched up perfectly at this point in the canvas/my sequence, but upon exporting I found that the video tracks used were probably those from the audio I had needed to sync the main video. Even though those video tracks aren't in the sequence at all.
    Any ideas?

what format are your source clips and what are your sequence settings. Kinda got a feeling you're editing with material in a format not suitable for fcp.

  • Video connector keeps disconnecting (Screen flickers on and off)

    Hi,
I bought a HP Pavilion Notebook 14-v054ca two weeks ago. Last week, the screen was flickering on and off, so I took it to the shop. They said the video connector was knocked loose and asked me if I dropped the laptop. The laptop is on my desk 24/7 and I have not dropped it once (I only had it for a week)! I have a warranty, so they replaced my laptop for me. Sadly, all my data was wiped, but hey, things happen.
    I digress.
Here I am with my second brand new HP Pavilion Notebook 14. I want to make sure the screen incident doesn't happen again, so I open and close the lid as gently as I can. Guess what. One week later, the video connector disconnected yet again. Is the 14-v054ca just a line of faulty, defective laptops? I hope that is not that case, because I love HP to death. I have an HP desktop and I am extremely satisfied with it. I don't want to trade this laptop in again just to have it happen a third time. It's an utter waste of time, and I lose my data every single time they give me a new one.

    Hello, @PongV2
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you've bought two notebooks and both have had an issue with flicker screen. That this was identified from where you purchased it as a loose connector.
To get assistance on this and to see what could be done for you on the issue, I recommend contacting phone support.

  • Can I Trick Presenter to allow me to Insert Video By Using Coding ?

I am currently evaluating Abobe Presenter 7.0.7.   It has the tools to allow me to make by presentations, but the major limitation for me is the fact that I must manually insert video by using the "Adobe Presenter" toolbar.   I need a means of automating the process of insert the video into the power point slides without doing it by hand using the "Adobe Presenter" toolbar.   I am currently using flv files.  Can anyone help ??
This is what I have noticed so far:
    1)     Inorder to publish the presentation, there is a folder created with the same name as your power point presentation.  Within that folder is a folder called "Assets".   Inside this folder you will file various flv files names like "v20110123_031_272_1_24357".   The original flv filename is "v20110123_031.flv".    I believe this is where the video file is placed when I use the "Adobe Presenter" insert video tool.
    2)     I also noticed that the power point slide has an object called "Shockwave Flash Object", and when I select this and display the "Properties" window, I see the following that seems important:  a)  Embed Movie = True, b)  Loop = False, and c)  MovieData = file path of video
    3)     I used the "more controls" toolbar that is part of power point and selected "Shockwave Flash Object" and scaled in a box on one of my slides.   I changed all of the properties to what I indicated in #2 above.  The "MovieData" file path was change to the correct path I the "Adobe Presenter" insert video did, but I change the flv file name and duration to the correct side.   I made a test case and insert the video in another presentation and copied it, but I made sure the pathname is correct for my test.
    3)     I am able to publish without any errors, the the inserted flv does play.   I assure its not working correctly.
Does anyone know what I can try to get something like this to work (without using the "Adobe Presenter" invert video) because I am abvle to write MS VBA Code to generate everything else.
All my power point slides are generated by using MS VBA code completely because I have many of these to do each week for over 18 weeks.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions of other tools that I can use.
I believe Captivate also has this issue where I have to do this manually.
    Thank You,
    G

I don't really know too much about AutoIt Tool.   This is what I tried:
    1)     I used MS Access VBA Code to open my power point slides and use the SendKeys to open various menu in the power point slides.   I do see the menu called "Adobe Presenter".
So I tried using the SendKeys "%{P}", True    which sends out the command Alt+P which is suppose to open the "Adobe Presenter" drop down menu.   It didn't do that but open the "View" Menu and select the "Header and Footer" menu.
So I tried using the SendKeys "%{I}", True   which sends out the command Alt+I which is suppose to open the "Insert" menu drop down and it works.   For some reason it didn't work for the "Adobe Presenter" menu.
    2)     When I just open power point and type Alt+P, it does open the "Adobe Presenter" drop down menu.
Any idea ??     Do you think the AutoIt may work better for me ???
    Thank You,
    G
